I came here after a long day in the sun for the sand sculpting festival. On the advice of a friend (rather than the namesake roast beef sandwich), I got the lobster roll (~20) and did not regret it! The bun was packed full of fresh, crisp lobster. I could barely even finish it because there was so much lobster! I sampled my friend's strawberry frappe, which was equally excellent and hit the spot on such a hot day. The only thing is that there is limited seating (a few patio tables outside) so we ended up sitting at the picnic tables across the road by the beach. It's been over 20 years since I have visited Kelly's Roast Beef and it will probably be another 20 years before I return for another meal. Coming back to Massachusetts, my to do bucket list included visiting Kelly. I'm trying to think of something positive to write but Can't. The over cooked fatty 'prime rib' with 1.5 slices in between saturated buttered buns was garbage. My colleagues French fries was something out of a space bag. Kelly's has turned into A franchise with low quality products, and poor customer service. Very disappointed and expect to pay premium prices. Late night grub with hubby. Kelly's is open till 3 am so it was a perfect choice to get some fried clams. The line wasn't very long and the cashiers were friendly enough. We ordered a large roast sandwich, tuna melt (this isn't in the menu but they offer it) fried clam bellies, and a side of cheese fries. Everything was so good. But I have a weakness for toasted buttered rolls. The roast beef sandwich was juicy and the meat was a nice pink. Not overcooked. The tuna melt was thick and piled on. We really enjoyed the sandwiches. The bellies were medium sized and were fried just right. Not greasy at all. They also offer free refills on their sodas. When we were ready to leave, the guy that wipes the tables and trays offered to clear off our table for us. Overall a great dining in experience. They also have a drive thru if you don't want to eat there. Next time I'll try the lobster roll but the roast beef sandwiches are what will get us to keep going back. read more

I dread the day I'm pregnant and the hormones kick in and cause me to crave a lobster roll at 2am bcz heaven knows I'll be driving over to Kelly's to satisfy the hunger thanks to their drive-thru staying open until 3am . The service is always speedy and the food is pretty good. I almost always order a lobster roll since I first introduced myself to the place and recently I've discovered a new favorite: ice cream! A scoop of strawberry and coffee will run you about $2+ and it's SOOO worth it. After the first time I tried their ice cream I called and asked if it was homemade bcz it's creamy and has a very old-fashioned/homemade texture! Yummmmm! I've seen the reviews saying the lobster rolls are watery, fortunately I've never had to experience one. My most recent visit had a few bits of shells but that was ONE out of the FIVE I've eaten so far this season. Pretty good odds, considering. It'll set you back $20 but once you taste those lumps of lobster claw with a hint of VERY little mayo you forget about price! Maybe its because of the low rating on Yelp, but walking in here my expectation of the place was low and I was pleasantly surprised to discover this Boston based chain. I expected a typical fast food joint, but this place is much more like a fast casual place like Chipotle or Panera - it had nicer, warm decoration with comfortable booth and lightening. Its definitely someplace you can take the family to for a meal without breaking the bank. Walking in the place is crowded - a good sign for Friday night for sure! I ordered the famous Roast Beef Sandwich, was given a number to take to my booth and sat down to wait. 5 minutes later the food appeared. It was on a small paper plate with a huge sandwich/hamburger. At this point, me and my friend we both confessed that we, in fact, have never had a roast beef sandwich before. Turns out I was expecting more like a french dip kind of thing, and this is much more closer to a hamburger (completed with sesame bun, lettuce, tomato and some sort of mayo sauce). The bun was toasted PERFECTLY, with just the right amount of crispiness. The roast beef was good too, definitely quality ingredients that I didn't expect given how much I paid for this. But it was a little bland, so the additional sauce on top really helped. In fact, all of the ingredients are fresh and of great quality and I would definitely come back again. Overall I really like the place and don't understand why it only has a 3 star on Yelp. A Kelly's Roast Beef with only three stars? Am I missing something? Now, I understand if some of you think this place just isn't as good as the Revere Beach location. I lived in the Boston area for quite a number of years including some time on the North Shore. I know and love the Revere Beach location as much as anyone. Nowadays, I only get to the Boston area once a year and Kelly's is a regular stop. On this last trip, Revere wasn't convenient, so I chose this location. I ordered a big takeout order for me, my wife, and several friends. Through this large order, I got to sample a few things. Now, I've seen people say here that the roast beef might not be as good as the original. On the night I went, it was fantastic. It could be that since I only have it once a year, I romanticize it a bit. But I did love the large beef and sauce I got here. The wife got chicken fingers and onion rings, and both of those which I sampled were every bit as good as I remember them being. Our friends got some fish sandwiches and a Reuben sandwich, and both looked pretty damn good to me. I know they polished them off happily. And those bacon and cheese fries... how can you go wrong? I have been to Kelly's Roast Beef in Revere in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the food there, so yesterday while passing through Medford we stopped at this Kelly's location. When we entered this restaurant we were excited to see all the memorabilia commemorating the original Kelly's Roast Beef and Wonderland Park. The smell pumping out if this restaurant was incredible, and the dining room clean and comfortable. The staff here was a little rude when it came to us ordering, but once we did order we got our food quickly. When it came time to eat our roast beef sandwiches, we couldn't have been any happier. The roast beef was prepared perfectly and the rolls were delicious. It was everything we hoped to have in a sandwich. So Kelly's Roast Beef is kind of like the tourist trap of Roast Beef shops to me, because their roast beef is mediocre and it's what tourists are directed towards. Kelly's seem to rely on it's history to sell it's food. But the food is otherwise good. Their chicken fingers are tasty, which isn't an accomplishment like landing on the moon, but still worth mentioning. The crab cake sandwich with mango salsa and fries, that was actually very good. The crab cake was moist, albeit falling apart in the sandwich. I would never have considered the mango salsa, that was a superb pairing. The citrus sauce that came on the side was wicked good too. Their fries are also mediocre to good. This location was remarkably clean, and the service for a roast beef joint was rather unusually exceptional. Food was brought to our table, and the gentleman asked if we needed anything and I said yeah, ketchup. I was expecting a bottle, but was those cups you fill with ketchup yourself. He also brought napkins and salt/pepper packets. I realized that these were available on a separate counter.
