We have been going to Kelly's for close to 40 yrs. and we have never ever been disappointed. The last three take out visits have been extremely disappointing. In the first, we received cheeseburgers instead of roast beef. Our fault for not checking before we left We tried eating the burgers but they were so thin and tasteless we threw them out. We thought it was an off night. Second take out visit, the Greek salad looked half eaten & chowder and roast beef didn't taste the same. Third and last take out visit, the chowder indeed is a different recipe and the salad is 1/2 the size with a ridiculous price for a lot of lettuce some cucumber and green peppers sprinkled in. Don't waste your time. Extremely overpriced. Roast beef is dry. Staff is not rude but they surely aren't friendly. They pretty much just don't care. Not like it used to be there. This is not a sit down restaurant but rather a place where you order at the window and wait for your meal. Nice place to stop for some delicious food while visiting Revere Beach. They of course are famous for their roast beef sandwiches however when I went there I had a craving for seafood so I went with the fried shrimp. The shrimp was very good and it really hit the spot. The initial person I ordered from didn't know too much about the menu, but there was an African American older male & female who explained the menu in a little more depth. Please be AWARE if you eat outside that the birds are absolutely ruthless! They will steal your food with no regard whatsoever Calamari 5/10 Great batter & perfectly fried but completely lacked flavor. Clam (they didn't have clam strips) & shrimp combo plate 5/10 Again, good batter and fried but there is no seasoning on any of the food. No amount of salt, pepper tartar sauce, nor hot sauce can save the flavor. It's just very bland. On a recent biz trip, I sought this place out because of a local recommendation. I was surprised by the tip because I think of Boston for great seafood. but I was told specifically to go here for the cow option of Roast Beef. I see that others are not enamored with the seafood or the prices but I did not partake of anything from the ocean so my review is limited to the Roast Beef Sandwich and their Onion Rings. I spent less than $15 and feel like these items were worth the price of admission. To be fair, this is really a style of fast food in the Boston genre so $15 is probably expensive since you would not pay that at most other fast food places you can think of. But for me, the worth is that what I ate was not comparable to most other fast food places I can think of. The finished product I put down was high-quality and worth the money. Since it has been making this since 1951, they have certainly had plenty of time to get it right. This location is right across the road from Revere Beach. Parking is limited but find a spot and you have the makings of a great view with your meal. It has a beach community, almost boardwalk feel as you walk up to the large, shack-like building. The menu is spread out all over the front of it and there are chaotic postings of additional menu items stuck to the windows and on signs standing on the walkway which got me all nervous while trying to order since I was trying to look in about 7 different directions to make sure I was not missing something good. In the end, I stuck to their classic, large roast beef sandwich and a side of onion rings. I love that they will put anything on your sandwich so you have a lot of options. I took the purist approach with onion and sides of straight, nose-clearing horseradish and BBQ sauce. It was a good call! The beef is on the Med Rare to Med side of doneness and a generous mound of it rests on a soft, kaiser style sesame bun. This was really a classic sandwich made of real roasted beef sliced thin but not shaved and with a great beefy taste and a nice chew. The beef juices soaked into the bun which was a bonus. Kelly's makes places like Arby's razor shaved roast beef sandwiches seem like they are government issued processed meat by-product. If you want a testament to how much I liked Kelly's, I went back and ate 3 of these over 4 days while I was in town if that tells you anything. They were that good! The onion rings were also great. Something about the way they bread them is addictive. The batter is light, crispy and not really particulate like a lot of the cornmeal battered styles I see at most places in the midwest. These were simply sweet onions and a single layer of crunch. I really loved these too but because they were not made from part of the cow, I just can't say that they were better than the sandwich. If in the Boston area, I would definitely recommend a stop at a Kelly's location for one of these sandwiches. I certainly have no regrets. read more

Try the gazebo's across the street on the beach are nice or just sit on the beach wall and enjoy the view I'd definitely come here again. Honestly the perfect casual beach day lunch spot!! They were busy even at 4 pm but the two-line system for ordering at their window worked out well and allowed adequate social distancing! I had the fried fish platter and was pleasantly surprised that it was a huge portion of fish, onion rings, and fries which was very shareable and take-homeable. I was also able to try the lobster roll--an excellent amount of lobster and flavor for the price! And I also tried the fried scallops which actually might have been my favorite out of the three! I think you can't go wrong with their seafood options and would definitely recommend trying this place if you're looking for a quick lunch that doesn't require sitting down at a restaurant. Lately food sizes and shrimp quality had me turn away from keep coming back. on a shrimp plate you usually get is 6 pieces of big size shrimp fries and small portion of onion rings. Never bother with reviews, but this was one of my favorite places until new ownership. Got a tuna roll and it came rolled up squashed in aluminum foil. They used to put it in a plastic container with chips and a pickle. You've ruined an iconic company and a staple on revere beach. Kelly's was the last stop on my way out of Boston, so naturally I had to order one of the lobster rolls! For a place renowned for its beef, they knocked the lobster roll out of the park! It honestly had better flavor and more lobster than any other roll I had while visiting Boston - not to mention, it makes a great airport snack. Haha. Asked for a "beef three-way" which would be sauce, mayo, and cheese. As I always ask them to please make sure it is shaved and I mean really shaved as thin as possible. It CAN be done as I worked in deli's for years and the slicers can cut as thin or thick as you want the meat. Well when I got home, it was NOT sliced thin. It was on the thick side and it was rare. I have never had a Kelly's roast beef that was undercooked like that.... never. The last two times, the cheese is always cold and sitting on top of the meat. As for the James River bar-be-que sauce the past two times, they were cheap with only a tiny bit on top. Horrible. "Say what" !!!! The sandwich was gross. Thankfully my next door neighbor had a dog because about 90% of the meat went to him. NEVER AGAIN. Kelly's was always known for great roast beef sandwiches. Not any more. The past few years I noticed all the Kelly's food has gone downhill. Not sure if they sold Kelly's to some outside firm that couldn't care less about consistency but within ten years, this place will be a thing of the past. A private equity firm recently purchased Kelly's and has ruined it. They used to sell a large fries for $10 that was giant. Now they sell a small bag for the same price. Same for the onion rings. Just ordered a Kelly's roast beef sandwich from their location in Logan Airport. Not only could I not cut the sandwich in half (it was a plastic knife after all) and I was expecting tender roast beef sandwich with bbq sauce...the meat was so tough you couldn't bite into it without it all coming out of the bun. Came for sons birthday realize new owners but.. anyway came to Medford location. Order chicken tenders for son and combo plate for myself! Clams and scallops. I counted 5 clams and four scallops! Staff dropping N bombs left and right!!! My son goes wow Dad they are really falling off!! For the portions could have ordered a cheeseburger plate 8 dollars!! Well there are 2 staples that my family has to stop and get to eat no matter where Kelly's is located. Mostly Revere Beach & Saugus as our 2nd. Soon to visit Kelly's in Florida where I've lived for the last 37 years. The Roast Beef and the sauce is always amazing, the chicken fingers were a staple of many friends from LCHS '86 and in college at NSCC. Window service always had a line. Serving times increased as the crowds increased. The ambiance of historic Revere Beach was the compliment to the meal or snack. Kelly's gets five stars for the memories that I get to revisit each and every time I get food from there. Occasionally it is flown to Orlando, FL. from a family member and it is usually still warm and even great cold. read more

When stuck in Boston for 7 hours ... I was using miles accumulated a long time ago, and a very low level of miles at that, so I accepted theoretically hanging out at BOS Logan Airport for 7 hours. Then, I realized I would go nuts, so I ventured outside, given that the MBTA subway is very close to the airport and a free shuttle connects you to the Airport station. (More about this later ... you know, it's transit related.) I asked a local, someone obviously at least half Irish, where to get some grub if I was to venture north from the airport on the Blue Line. He enthusiastically recommended Kelly's Roast Beef. This perplexed me since I thought most popular places in New England whose names are bandied about serve up seafood, pizza, and cannoli. So I rode the Blue Line one stop beyond Revere, up to Wonderland, its terminus. I wondered if this area would be ghetto, sort of how Coney Island has been depicted in recent years. It is not. The Boston area tends to feel like a patchwork of small communities with distinct personalities and this area is just like that. The only difference is that, on the beachfront street, there are some nice condo towers and many eateries in addition to the wide beach on Massachusetts Bay. Kelly's is in a tidy small white building on the beachfront street. I expected to eat inside, thinking they would at least have a dive-y arrangement of tables. However, one has to eat outside or take it to go. Their tables do have umbrellas, which were not necessary on this particular day. I couldn't believe how nice the employees at Kelly's were. The accents weren't that thick (mind you, I very much like accents, so I sort of felt shortchanged) and they were all about helping you order what you wanted. They weren't that busy. I didn't get roast beef. Instead, I got a chicken sandwich. It was very good - tender, juicy, and nicely garnished. Then, as a side in this combo, one can get fries, onion rings, or a little of both. I chose the latter. Those were good, too. I also had a soft drink. I ate outside and looked at the beach, the cars driving up and down the street, and the housing stock. Birds are present and I did fork over some tiny pieces of my fries. I made sure the sparrows got them ... and not the seagulls. Note that the price for this little package deal at Kelly's was reasonable. The other cost would have been the ride on the T for $2.40 in each direction. If you don't have a car at your disposal, you will be walking a little over a mile in each direction from the last T stop, which felt really good. Kelly's is very much a 4 star kind of place. It was all there - the food, the service, the pricing, and the casual beach ambiance. I can now say I have been to Revere, a place that a friend of mine who lives in New England jokes about via the "Reveah Receptionist School!" I don't know if such a place exists. But the accent impersonation in the parody implied an Italian-American girl with '80s big hair and big hoop hearings who smacked her gum. While I can't add a star for this, I was relieved that I didn't see too many Subarus, which are obnoxiously popular in New England. Instead, I saw a lot of practical and unobtrusive Toyota Camrys as well as a fair number of American and foreign trucks and SUVs. This all had a calming effect on me. read more

All for a decent price under $20 whereas you'd be challenged to find just a lobster roll for that price anywhere in Boston. The plate was large enough for two meals. Located at a prime location next to the ocean at the Revere Beach Boulevard. You can't miss it. Hundreds of parking spots are available because it's next to the beach but the spots next to Kelly's could be hard to find during busy hours. So, be prepared to park and walk for few minutes. But, don't worry, enjoy the oceanic view and you will reach Kelly's in no time. I ordered hot dogs and fries. The menu was really tempting but I didn't order more because I had to have dinner in an hour. The fries were thick and tasty. Not too crispy but had appropriate amount of salt. Hot dogs were good too but the highlight was the hot dog bun! It was lightly toasted with butter than enhanced the its taste. It was fresh too. Got the hot dog with mustard topping and a side of ketchup which I ended up finishing with the fries. There are just 4-5 tables with chairs and umbrellas to protect you from the rain or sun light. The price is on the higher side and its obvious because there are not many spots in that area so close to the beach. Will definitely go again and try out more items from the menu! read more

They changed their french fries and they are terrible and I pleaded with the managers to give a message to the management to bring back the good French quality french fries All the customers know that the french fries are terrible but nobody's listening if the management reads this, please bring back the old french fries also they used to have a fried chicken plate that is also gone.
