The number of times I've *almost* visited a Kelly's is ridiculous! Finally, this week I went to the Salem NH location. I ordered the large roast beef combo meal with cheese, onions, bbq sauce, and yellow mustard. I chose onion rings for my side and as I was dining in, used the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine for my fountain drink. The dining room was very clean, and had many windows for good lighting. It did, however, feel a little cold. They have quite a lot of indoor seating with a good number of booths along the windows. Tables with chairs filled the center of the dining room. I saw they also set up umbrella tables outside for warmer months. The person who took the order gave a standup with a number to identify me with my order and bring it directly to the table which was nice. I do t mind being called up to take my food at the counter, but it was a nice touch to be able to just relax and wait. It was a reasonable wait time of about 5 minutes. The sandwich came on a grilled sesame bulkie roll. The meat was warmed but not hot, so my cheese was not melted much, although it softened up as I ate. There was a generous portion of meat on there. I really enjoyed it, very tasty tender roast beef and a definite pink medium roast on it, exactly what I like. I thought the James River barbecue sauce was a great flavor with everything. I enjoyed the onion rings a lot, they are a light and crispy breading style. (I think the breading is partially made with cornmeal.) They did not need anything but a small bit of added salt. Very fresh and crispy crunchy with good solid sweet onions inside. Not too thick and not too thin. I'd go back, but I don't dine out much anymore because of the cost of doing so. The roast beef combo meal was ~ $15. So better than a sit down meal or even many fast food combo meals! We have been coming to Kelly's at all of their locations. And this one unfortunately had the worst service. The person at the counter was as rude, we tried saying hello but he didn't even respond. Then when getting the drink cups he placed them on the counter upside down, I flipped the cup right side up and ordered another cup and he placed the second one upside down also. The food as usual was very good but having the wrong people at the counter can make people not want to return. read more

My family recently took a visit to this location. I've been to most of their other locations before. This time, I downloaded their app for rewards ahead of time. The drive thru was smooth and the staff members were so friendly! I ordered two sandwiches, fries, onion rings, chicken fingers and the fried shrimp. We loved the food! My husband likes the meat well done and it was the first time we tried it like this here. Everyone was happy! The only thing that we didn't love was the quality of the onion rings. Confusing order, I wanted a roast beef 3 way with a side of onion rings and somehow it turned into a roast beef meal with rings/fries and a drink. We'll see what shows up as the receipt is confusing too. I did get the meal combo and it worked out OK, the sandwich was good although I was probably expecting more being "Kelly's", I'll have to stop at a couple other places and get a 3 way to compare. While the Customer Service was impeccable, the food was so disappointing. I paid 33.00 for a seared scallop dinner with onion rings and the scallops tasted like they were fried in old oil. The onion rings tasted scale. I will definitely think twice before I go back there. I remember going to Kelley's at Revere Beach growing up and the place was an icon of a restaurant. It has been quite a long time since I sunk my teeth into a Kelly's roast beef sandwich. Glad I have this spot as an option when I'm in the area. There was a short line to order when we arrived. This gave us time to read through the menu. I am surprised by all the additional menu items. Kelly's original location at Revere Beach was roast beef sandwiches, fries, onion rings, fried seafood and soft drinks. That was it, and it was the bomb. Those seagulls love them some Kelly's fries. The line did not move very quickly so be patient. After paying we were given a table number and cup. To use the freestyle machine tap the screen for the drink menu - there are many options- tap your preferred beverage and a new menu appears offering the option to add flavored syrups to your soft drink (vanilla, cherry, lime, etc) The food arrived quickly. These large roast beef sandwiches are quite large. We always eat them plain w/just a little salt. The roast beef is tasty and very lean. The sesame bun is toasted. Our side of onion rings could have stayed in the fryer a little longer, but they were good. Arriving unsalted in a paper bag we added a few salt packets and gave the bag a shake. Salt, pepper, ketchup, additional napkins and straws are located near the soda machines. Our table needed to be cleaned when we arrived, and we cleaned it again and thew away our trash when we left. Once the rush was over a team member came around and washed down the tables. Restrooms are near the cashier, both clean. Ladies has two stalls and a baby changing station. Plenty of parking and they have a drive thru. The parking lot is not attached to the Market Basket lot next door, but there is a pedestrian bridge between the two if you find yourself in the wrong lot. read more

Its a disappointment from the original spot at revere. The portion is small unlike the menu picture, price very high it's not worthed. I ordered extra-large shrimp, my shrimp is not large at all. As you can see on the picture bellow. My husband ordered the 2 combos, never had any problem with ordering combo, the scallops was burnt inedible, typicallywe just never come back and leave the bad food behind. Terrible clam plate. I'm not a fan. The clams were old, the bellies had no flavor and no texture. The rest was rubbery, greasy and flavorless. The batter was no better than wonder bread. The fries were also terrible. They had no potato taste, were overly salty, stale and greasy. The onion rings were 50/50. The ones that were not burned were good. No cole slaw available. They should change their cooking oil way more frequently. I threw half the plate away rather than eat it and get sick. read more

This used to be a place to get a great value meal. Not any more sadly. Over-priced with skimpy portions I got a seafood combo with fried clams and fish. Fries and onion rings. There were about 6 clams and a small piece of fried fish. Maybe 6 onion rings and a small portion of fries that seemed to have been cooked for a while and kept under a heat lamp until ending up on my plate. Kelly's Roast Beef opened in the former Burger King site, across the road from Panera Bread. This North Shore staple serves up their roast beef sandwiches, burgers, fried seafood, chicken fingers, fries, onion rings, salads, shakes, and Coke Freestyle fountain drinks. From my previous review of a former location in MA, I thought it was pricey 15 years ago, but the prices here actually seem pretty fair and comparable to other places in the area. The place is order at the counter, eat in, takeout, or drive thru. If eating in, you take seat in the dining room and they bring your order to you when ready, given a number for your table. There is also outside patio seating in front of the building. I stopped in at the Kelly's Roast Beef in Salem NH for dinner. I ordered the Fish & Chips ($13.95 plus tax) and a Large 3-Way Roast Beef Sandwich ($11.40 plus tax), the staple sandwich of the North Shore. I took a seat at a booth and my food was brought out to me in 5 minutes. The large 3-Way roast beef sandwich had thin sliced medium rare roast beef, mild spicy BBQ sauce, mayo, and American cheese slice on a thick toast sesame bun. The amount of meat was pretty decent, not overloaded and messy like at other roast beef sandwich places I've been to. The Fish & Chips plate was a good amount of fried food goodness including 2 pieces, deep fried golden & breaded crisp outside, standard golden fries, and homemade crispy onion rings, tartar sauce on the side. I enjoyed half of my food in the restaurant and packed the rest to go. I will never again visit a Kelly's location. They have fallen so far. I have never ordered a seafood combo plate and come away still hungry. I got whole belly clams n scallops w onion rings it was 33.50. It came out with 6 clams 6 scallops and a handful of onion rings. The clams n onion rings were good but the style of rings has changed. My scallops were burnt. The scallop was good but left a burnt after taste. When I complained they said everything is cooked on a timer. The replacement 4 were still dark but without the burnt after. Wife got shrimp they advertised xtra large jumbo shrimp we received 41/50s med shrimp. Since I was still hungry, I chopped off the charred coating to get to the scallop.. read more

The food is excellent. We use the drive thru and it is very quick. A little pricey but overall very good place to eat.

After hanging out at the mall, we decided to give this place a try. I wanted to have roast beef but couldn't really find one in NH. The place is similar to McDonald's in terms of its layout, with booths lined up against the walls, one booth sitting in the middle, and regular tables comprising the rest of the space. The place also follows a primarily green and white color scheme, with the walls being white and the roof and pipes being dark green. We shared the #2 Large Roast beef with onions and upgraded to a frappe. The roast beef was better than Arby's and they're more generous with the protein. Hubs liked it that it was rare. The side of coleslaw was delicious as well. Cashier split our frappe into 2 cups, which I thought was nice. We also had the combo platter 2 ways with fried shrimp and fried clams. He was surprised that we were allowed to combo it with belly clams. It was pretty good. Our cashier was friendly. She came up with ways for us to save money while we were oblivious to all the combos and deals. Service was fast and friendly. I'm glad that we finally got a chance to try this chain. Went for Mothers Day, 2024. Mom wanted a Lobster Roll for lunch, so I thought we'd give it a try. I don't know what you believe you were serving, but it wasn't whole lobster. Seemed to me to be "Seafood Salad" chunks shaped like lobster. The shred was wrong too. Might have been better off going to Market Basket next door and made my own. Tried the recommended Original Three Way Roast Beef Meal. The fries are the square cut type, but they don't have much flavor, hence I added some salt and ketchup and they were much improved. The actual sandwich came with a tasty BBQ sauce a decent amount of Roast Beef, some mayo, and a slice of white American cheese, all contained within a soft, sesame-seeded grilled warm buttered bun. Pretty tasty combination! The roast beef seemed pretty fresh as well. All in all, it wasn't bad for a quick fast food experience. The service was quick, efficient, and friendly. The ambiance was quiet and clean with some smooth music playing in the background. There were about 6 or 7 tables with couples of all ages eating at them and at least as many empty tables. I didn't rate it 5 stars because the food, while pretty decent, also didn't scream out as anything that special or worth all the hype, but it's not bad. Went to Kelly's in Salem recently craving my cheeseburger with ketchup. Decided to order the meal combo. Ordered to go and I saw the counter help walk around with it for someone "dining in" but they couldn't find the table (I didn't know it was mine at the time). Finally the counter help realizes it's a to-go order. Fine, no problem. I assume it wasn't left with anyone for a second. The fries and onion rings were so cold when I got to my car. I think the fries changed too because the texture was off but maybe it's just the cold temp. It was lunch time so no excuse for cold food. I wish I had eaten there as I would've brought it all back up for a refund. The soda cups must be cheap too as my drink leaked out of the bottom soaking everything in sight. Kelly's on the beach is the only answer. I had such high hopes for Salem but never again. And just to add....i left a nice tip because I know how hard people are working these days. Each time I decide to give this place another try I regret it. This time my order sat ready and done on the counter for at least 10 minutes. I asked the cashier if my order was ready twice and she said no. Finally she checked the bag and saw that it had been ready for a while just as I thought. Sure enough my cheeseburger and fries were cold and my frappe was mostly melted when I got home. I wouldn't have bothered to write this review if she had at least said sorry, my mistake, but she instead ignored me when I expressed concern that the food would be cold. We went in May 2023 and everything was delicious. The restaurant was very clean. I read all of the reviews before going and quite frankly it's a little unfair to give 1 star for minor complaints like it took a long time, or the fries needed more salt, or there was the wrong amount of sauce. I was surprised at how low the Yelp average was and I almost didn't go. But I saw everyone's food that I ate with and I watched them cooking. The food is fresh, tasty, they use clean oil, and it was hot. Obviously the drive-thru is not a great idea for a place like this. And sure there is plenty of room for improvement as people mentioned. But I don't understand why Yelpers are so desperately trying to put this location out of business with 1 star reviews, it's great to have a Kelly's in NH and yeah the staff members are very young and inexperienced but cut them a little slack, everyone had a first job, the Internet is so nasty lately. read more

I live close to this location and decided to give it a try. I've never been to a Kelly's before. I went through the drive-through and ordered a steak and cheese with a side of fries. The staff interactions I had all seemed fine. But I was disappointed in the food. The fries were hot, but rather bland. And the steak and cheese was mostly a small sub roll topped with a meager amount of steak. Note the roll was not FILLED with streak, but TOPPED with it. Every bite I took was overwhelmingly just bread with very little steak/cheese. And for further disappointment, I felt the prices were pretty high for what you get. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because at least the little bit of steak that I did get tasted good. read more

Having grown up going to the original Kelly's in Revere as well as the one in Saugus (and currently a NH resident) I really, really wanted Kelly's in Salem to be the Kelly's I remembered. I was terribly disappointed. First of all if your headed south on 28 you have to do a u turn to get to it. It's not easy access. The setup inside is horrible. Once you get your food you have to cut though the ordering line to get your drink, napkins,forks etc. All this would be tolerable if the food was even close to Kelly's standards. It isn't even close to McDonald's standards. Staff are like Zombies. Not the well trained team that made Kelly's successful. So many other great Roast Beef options in the Merrimack Valley. this was the second time going to Kelly's in Salem NH and i must say i was completely disappointed. The onions ring were soggy, the fried clams tasted like they were soaked in load tide salty water. the fries were ok but not the best. Two of our orders were for Clam chowder, no spoons were given had to go back to the counter to get them. Over all a very bad experience..I would not go to this place again. read more

Had a great time at Kelly's (new Salem NH location), located on route 28. This spot used to be a run down Burger King, and man oh man did they transform this place. Kelly's is a New England staple, originating from Revere Beach. Their lobster rolls are delicious and packed with lobster. I stopped in the new Kelly's Roast Beef in Salem, for the first time tonight. Both the Drive-thru and Dining Room were packed. I ordered a Large Roast Beef (plain) and a Large Onion Ring to go. The wait time was reasonable and the staff seemed to be doing a good job of keeping things moving. A couple of observations: - Roast Beef Sandwich was decent sized but quite a bit smaller than other Roast Beef shops in the area - Roast Beef contained a bit more fat than I typically see at other places - Roast Beef Sandwich is served on a Seeded Roll rather than an Onion Roll - Onion Rings are cut very thick and not separated prior to cooking. This leads to huge, uncoated slices of onion. Not appetizing. - Dining Room is severely undersized for the business they're doing. Much of the former tenant's seating area has been reallocated to Kitchen space. This is fully understandable as Roast Beef takes a lot more prep than fast food burgers but; don't be surprised if seating is sparse. Especially in Winter when outdoor seating is not an option. Overall, not bad but there are some better options for Roast Beef in the Merrimack Valley. read more

Instead got a grilled cheese. No biggy. I just asked for Mac and cheese instead. No need to throw the fries and rings away, those are fine. Well she asked me for the plate and threw them out and put the grilled cheese in a bowl and left it next to the microwave, where she threw the Kraft in for a minute. Fries and rings are flavorless.
