The new location in Salem took a month or so to get their feet wet but now they are on par, and set to surpass, the myriad of restaurants in Salem. This was the second visit to the Salem location after I was brought to their flagship location and fell in love. It was good that first Salem experience, but not great. This dining experience was infinitely better. The fish sandwich was fried nice and light and crispy on a soft, warm bun. The homemade tartar sauce is out of this world. The French fries and onion rings were nice and crisp and tasty. I highly recommend Kelly's in Salem. I'm already looking forward to the next visit. read more

The food was okay except the fact the worker made my sandwich without looking at the slip. Sandwich was made wrong! Then she remade it and made a small and not a large like I paid for. The soda machine is a nightmare with this place! Except the opening month every time we come it is always out of syrup or the carbonation. I don't see how Wendy's can afford to train their employees but Kelly's can't. I could even show them how to do it!! This place is falling and falling fast!!! Don't get me going on the turtle pace of the employees they have hired, it keeps getting worse the longer this place is open. I wish Beechmont Roastbeef never shut down, I travel an hour from north to come here and if Beechmont was still open I would even drive the extra time because never had mess-up's and their employees "listened". On Saturday 9/28/24 a friend and I went to Kelly's Roast Beef in Salem, NH. for a late lunch at 2:56 pm. Immediately upon reaching the order counter I was handed a discount coupon that stated $ 5 off any purchase of $ 25 or more among two other discounts. Nothing on the coupon indicated any restrictions as to when it could be used. We both ordered the Fish and Chips dinner and a beverage. The total cost for the food and beverages was $38.19. It was a beautiful afternoon so we proceeded to a table outside to wait for our food. I decided to look at the receipt to ensure I got the $5 discount. The discount had not been applied so I returned to the counter inside to request the discount. I was shocked to hear the response I got. "You can't use the discount today" I inquired why not and was told " that's our company policy" by two employees. I asked where that is stated and looked all around the store for anything stating this policy and I also thoroughly reviewd the coupon to see if there were any restrictions on using it, there are none. I asked to speak to the manager and he reitetrated the same" it's company policy" I asked for the name and telephone number of his boss and following an extended wait, about 8-10 minutes, he emerged from his office and gave me the name and email address for Jim Ratej whom he claimed is his boss. On Monday September 30th I emailed Mr. Ratej and shared my story regarding the coupon situation with him and requested a $5 refund. As of this writing on Monday 10/7 I have not heard from him. While I was waiting for the manager to provide his boss' contact info, another gentleman also asked about using the coupon and he was told he could not use it that day. On their sign post they are now advertising "children eat free with purchase of an adult meal. I wonder if the children have to wait until the next time they visit to get their free meal. I definitely believe this to be false advertising and personally, I will never dine there again. read more

I waited a couple of months after opening to try this Kelly's location knowing it takes time to work out the kinks. Finally ventured in to give it a whirl on 1/28/23 for lunch. Ordered a Lg roast beef with bbq sauce, horseradish and cheese along with a French fry. I will say that the roast beef was sliced thin and the majority of the meat was rare to medium rare which to me is how it oughta be. Some of the meat was medium to medium well and you could clearly see they blended two completely different batches of meat to make my sandwich. But all the heat was indeed tender regardless of the cooked temp. The sandwich was definitely lacking when it came to the bbq sauce and the horseradish !!! Hardly any of either which left my sandwich a bit flat for flavor. The fries were fries and I have no complaints about them... I'll go back in a couple of months cause I am a pure carnivore after all but I'll be requesting extra sauce and radish... Eat on my fellow carnivores !!! read more

Do not go to this horrible one it is awful now. As a kid I used to love this place it was awesome in Saugus Massachusetts but now they wanted to make it more local which is fine. But after a while they changed their fries and chicken and it's horrible, it tasted cold and really mediocre at best. For the food you're getting you might as well go to Shake and shack. read more

My husband has been anxiously awaiting the opening of Kelly's ever since he heard they were coming to town. We wanted to try the first week, but it was always packed. Which we thought was a good sign. It wasn't! I decided I'd go grab some takeout the next week to make him happy. He couldn't wait for his Original Roast Beef sandwich with their awesome sauce! I pull into the drive up and see that there are 4 or 5 cars ahead of me. Not too bad I thought. Not realizing that it was a full 5-7 minutes before each car moved! But of course I'm already committed so there I sat. I ordered my food, and the girl repeated it back to me. His Original sandwich WITH sauce. I am not exaggerating when I tell you it took over 30 mins to get to the pickup window!!! It was like I had finished an epic quest!!! Finally made it home. My husband opened his meal and guess what? Been to Revere many times and was not really impressed. Same thing in Medford. Decided to try the new Kelly's in Salem NH to see if it was a hidden gem. Again I was not impressed. Shrimp plate with 7 butterflied shrimp and fries. Asked for well done fries, didn't get them. The shrimp were overcooked and I wouldn't doubt if they were previously frozen. Roast beef may be good but they need to compete with Blue House down the street. Doubt there's any comparison. Me personally, I was beyond disappointed with the food and service. Food took around 40 minutes and was cold when got it. A large beef sammie by the way. The beef was still mooing. Also got a side of Mac and cheese( which I was really looking forward too) I ended up getting craft Mac and cheese. It was vile. They did give a free side order of chicken tenders. However Oke do the chickens appeared to have a bite taken out of it. Will not be dining here again Update: my stomachs is aggressively turning and it is definitely due to the Kraft Mac and cheese. I then sat there for 15 min and when she finally came back she was trying to hand me the sandwiches for the people behind me. Then she told me she didn't charge me which in fact she did. I have been to the original Kelly's numerous times. I was in Salem and saw the restaurant, and figured I would give it a shot. Ordered a simple roast beef sandwich and an order of fries. After a long wait, the sandwich came out, and they then went to fill the fries order from a pile of fries on the counter that had been there since I walked in. I did get them to provide some new fries, which took another 10 minutes. They had at least 10 people working so I have no idea why it took so long. I will not be going back to this place again. I've been wanting to go there since they opened, having been a loyal customer of the Revere location since the 70's. I ordered two (2) large roast beef to go; one with sauce & cheese and the other with just sauce. Service was slow but 'it is what it is.' I arrived home ready to dig in. The sandwiches had loads of meat, but unfortunately, the meat was 1/2 thin and rare and the rest was thick sliced and well done. Also, the bun was tasty, but loaded with melted butter inside which soaked thru, causing the bun the fall apart, leaving my hands all greasy. The final disappointment was that there almost NO SAUCE on either sandwich. I mean Hardly a drop of sauce, meaning the roast beef wad dry and tasteless. Yesterday I went for the first time since they have been opened. I got a lg roast beef meal with onion rings and French fries and got the roast beef the original way with light mayo. The roast beef sandwich was fantastic. But the fries were entirely bland and the onion rings were ok but the coating was a bit powdery. And also bland. My friend got a strawberry milkshake for a drink with there roast beef and fries. Luckily I had a sip I'll say it was one of the best strawberry milkshakes Iv ever had. It was like an amazing nesquick shake with chunks of strawberry's. Next time I go I'll get a regular roast beef and a strawberry shake. The service was alright mainly what one would expect from a higher end fast food place. Most the employees were young and mildly attentive. The ambiance was higher end and spacious with nice wood tables. I'd eat inside again. And look forward to when I do. read more

My eye and I were her for the opening and felt the roast beef and Surf and Turf were comparable to what we were accustomed to in Revere. We highly recommended the place to many people and, for the next five or so visits (about once every ten days), things were always consistent, with moist and delicious beef and substantial lobster roll. Well the last three visits were a different story. Dry beef, hard to find lobster in the roll (again this is the small lobster roll offered with the Surfing Turf meal), and cold fries and onion rings. The last visit I brought the lobster roll to the serving area to ask what happened and was told that there is 3 Oz of lobster meat in these rolls and that's what I got. This words from a woman whom I believe must have been the manager as the young lady who brought us the meal apologized and said she would ask the manager. All my co-workers seemed excited that Kelly's was coming to Salem. I guess it is well known closer to Boston. Based on the hype, I decided to give it a try. I waited close to 20 minutes in the drive up, but they are new in town so maybe they haven't figured out staff just yet; forgivable. I think the nearly 20-dollar price for a small roast beef, fries and a coke is pretty high, but the sandwich is pretty big for a small. The fries are not worth buying, flavorless and a bit undercooked. The sandwich was not edible. It was almost completely raw, and the bun was saturated with blood. I did try a bite but ended up throwing it away. The Coke was good. I do love fountain soda. read more

Waited another 5 minutes to have reiterated to me that a hotdog fell on the ground and if I wanted it to go which i had requested 5 minutes earlier. Still no sign of any food so I asked for a refund. There was a total of 6 people in the restaurant. One had already been served. One came in after I ordered and they were just getting their food but no food for me. No one came over to explain anything. This is an ongoing issue at this location. Won't be back. This was a weekly place I visited with my son before hockey practice. They are newly opened, still training staff. I had the Large Roast Beef (with the horseradish sauce)and a large order of onion rings to go. $17.25 WOW! The sandwich was delicious! Juicy on a nice toasted sesame bun. That was $11. Price was fair for today... Comparable to 2 Arby's (whose buns are not as good) The onion rings, on the othe hand, were inferior. Excessive crumbly breading, overfried coating thin single ring. Quantity was adequate. Indoor and outdoor seating. Typical fast food hard chairs. The condiments counter is poorly placed, you have to struggle past the incoming traffic to get to it. Don't listen to the haters here. Kelly's in Salem is a welcome addition and they deliver the same great quality food that their other locations do. Small roast beef three way was perfect and the fries and onion rings are always amazing. My only complaint would be the AC was blasting inside so we decided to eat outside on the patio. Hmmm...I really had no expectations, but this was a sloppy operation. I ordered a double cheeseburger with onion rings and a drink. The ordering was painful , they kept asking me to repeat my order. All of the tables were dirty, and the single table are smelled like someone threw up so I sat at bigger table. One of the self serve drink machines was out of order so there was a line. They were also out of drink lids but no biggie. When I got my burger it looked really unimpressive. It was 2 greasy smallish smashed crusty patties on a bun that was oversized for the meat. No ketchup, mustard, Mayo or any toppings. No Lettuce tomatoes Onions or pickles. ( maybe you have to request toppings?). The bun was pleasantly toasted and covered in grease so it wasnt as dry as I thought it would be but it wasn't a great burger. The onion rings needed salt and seasoning but they were battered well. All in all for 15.00 it wasn't a good burger I would have rather have gone to Wendy's and gotten a Dave's Double. This place is mediocre at best. 2.5 stars but I will round off to 3. read more

I struggled with whether to write a review or not because I knew Kelley's had only recently opened but reading other reviews, I see a pattern here. I pulled into the drive through line, maybe seven cars in front of me. Each car took well over five minutes to move forward. Finally, it was my turn. The voice said he would be right with me. I waited patiently. Seven minutes. I ordered a scallop plate and pulled around. The wait on the other side was the same. Another twenty minutes. Finally, my turn to pick up my scallop plate. I was told my order would be right out. Waiting, waiting. Finally, I was asked to pull over to a side spot because they were waiting on fresh fries. Waiting, waiting...finally, the order came out and I was told they care about the freshness of the food and apologized for the wait. Okay, the French fries were hot and fresh, same for the onion rings. Scallops were cold. So, they care about fresh fries but not keeping your main food item fresh? The scallops were small and chewy. I will never sit in that drive through again. I might go back at some point but only to try the roast beef on a day I can commit to waiting for 45 minutes for food.
