I went to Kelly's on a recommendation from a co-worker. My semi was experiencing engine limp and no matter how much I tried to figure it out, I just could not get it resolved. I asked around and my friend told me to take it to Kelly's. Arriving at the shop, I was greeted by the staff. They asked me what the issue was and took it from there. All I had to do was give them the green light to do the repair, they got it fixed, and I was back on the road. Lesson learned, let the professionals handle it because I made things worst with my hackjob of a repair. read more

Stan did something i thought was gone in this world we live in. i was calling about a truck repair i needed in Hayward and asked if he did service in hayward he told me not really but i asked him if he had any recommendations and he gave me a number and they will be out within an hour. I am a small business man whose livelihood depends entirely on his reputation for efficiency and integrity. So, I fully understand what I'm doing when I write this review. It's long because facts are important when leveling criticism. I took my truck to Kelly's earlier this year for a smog check. Dropped my truck off in the morning, figuring (out loud) I'd need a tune-up to pass. After a few hours I got a call from the shop letting me know that, yes, she (the truck) needed a tune-up to pass. OK. Later that afternoon, another call saying she wouldn't pass and needed a new carburator - used not available. Estimate - an additional $1200 parts and labor. Man... she passed easy 2 years ago and, besides, I see like 3 trucks same as mine a day - used carb shouldn't be a problem. Plus, you guessed it, I don't have another $1200. I don't really trust what they're saying to me but I can't afford the work regardless so I tell 'em "put her back together and I'll come get her at the end of the day - what's the damage?" ... 800 FUCKING DOLLARS. I was surprised and I asked to talk to Kelly. Kelly came on the line without delay and told me, with what sounded like a well-practiced straight face, that they were charging me 1.5 hours labor to determine that the truck needed a tune-up and another 3 hours for the work. Plus parts. A professional truck mechanic ($120p/h) should not need 1.5 hours to decide a truck needs a tune-up to pass smog. Should a professional truck mechanic ($120p/h) need 3 hours to replace cap, rotor, plugs, wires and fuel filter (description from invoice) and adjustments? I picked the truck up that evening and payed the $800 with intense stomach pain. Kelly was behind the counter and wanted to know what was I gonna do since I needed to pass smog within a couple days to keep registration - thanks for the concern, Kelly. The truck's idle was noticeably higher as soon as I started the engine. Any professional truck mechanic knows that vehicles cannot pass smog with high idle speeds. Based on the day's incidents, I chose not to trust Kelly's to fix the problem. I got an extension for the registration at DMV and, when I was able, took the truck to Quality Tune-up on MLK and MacArthur. Within 45 minutes the good folks at Quality Tune-up made a simple carburator adjustment and I had my certificate. 35 BUCKS. I hope you keep these facts in mind when deciding where to take your truck for repair. read more

Can't thank Kelly's truck repair enough. I work for a company with a small fleet and while one truck is getting repaired currently at Kelly's, another started giving us problems. We called them in a panic stating we cannot afford another truck down for any amount of time and they told us to bring it on in. The guys at Kelly's dropped what they are doing for us and got it roadworthy in a matter of hours. The problem is a major one but they were able to get the truck roadworthy to get us by (hopefully) until the other truck is up and running. 2 DAYS BEFORE NEW YEARS. Kelly's deals with fleet and commercial trucks, and I'm sure they hear "I need my truck going now!" from everyone. Of course from me as well and they really came through for us. So far I am very pleased with the service here. being and owner operator, i feel that everyone will try their best to get over on truckers because they know if the truck is not running , the truck dont make money. in the past we have delt with repair shops over charging us, claiming something was wrong that was not. My contact is kevin, he was very nice and friendly from the start. Kevin has been honest and up front with me from the start . I told him the truck needed a clutch ( which would have cost $2500) but when they looked at it , he said it only needed a clutch brake ( $500 ) whoo hoo! This was big to me because we were ready to pay for a new clutch and they could have totally gotten over on us but guess what? Kelly's Truck Repair is a rip-off. If you are an RVer overnighting or parked in San Leandro, Castro Valley, Union City or anywhere in the Eastbay and you need help, DO NOT CALL Kelly's Truck Repair. If you use a search engine to find an RV mechanic, Kelly's is prominently featured, but they have few reviews. Our RV was in a mobile home park in San Leandro, and all of a sudden would not start. I found Kelly's on Google and phoned them (the scheduling person was Billy). Billy quoted me a service charge of $65, plus $130 per hour, including travelling time for the serviceman. He took my charge card information and told me he need to have $500 authorized on my card before he could send someone out. He promised me a service man between 9 and 9:30 am. At 10:10 am, I called him back to find out if anyone was coming. He told me they were in a meeting which "ran over" and that the guy would arrive by 10:30. I should have known then this outfit was shady. According to Mapquest, the mobile home park is 9 (nine, not even 10) minutes away from Kelly's location. The repairman shows up, figures the battery is dead attempts a jump, it doesn't work, he tells my husband we need a new battery and he takes off. Took all of 1 (o-n-e) hour. My husband went and got a new battery and installed it. Later that day, Billy sends me a bill via email where my card has been charged $325. $65 for the service charge and $230 for 2 hours labor. I phoned Billy who was indignant that I should call and complain about these charges. I explained what took place and I told him that there was no way it could take 2 hours to diagnose a dead battery. He told me that I should have diagnosed it myself rather than call Kelly's. And you know what, he's right. So I am spreading the word to all RVers who are away from home, or anyone else who needs help with a diesel vehicle, don't call Kelly's - diagnose it yourself. Or better yet, when you do a search for RV repair, bypass Kelly's Truck Repair and find a business with more integrity and better customer service. After all, if they generate extra income by having to fudge an additional hour from senior citizens in an RV park, you don't want to do business with them. Most of us that are retired are on a fixed income and we don't need crooked mechanics taking advantage of us when we are in a pickle. read more

I have contacted kelly's truck repair for PM services for our trailer. I have called, and, spoke with a lady name Tami. She explained the rates and time frame for the service, and requested me to call and confirm if and when we are dropping the trailer. I have confirm with our local operation, and called back to confirm as required. Tami Did not answer the phone rather a guy that i did not catch his name. I explained that Tami requested us to call and confirm he assured me that it is ok to drop off in the afternoon, and, it might take less time as originally quoted. When my trailer arrive, they received it as planned. an hour later, Tami called our local operation upset that we have dropped the trailer without notification and demanded that we will come back to take the trailer and she will not service it now. All our explanations that we have followed her request and, it is an internal miscommunication did not help and we had to come back to take away the trailer. Obviously, they have enough business to handle new customers in such irresponsible manner, rude, and, unhelpful.
