The saged mushroom savory mini-pie was delicious and served piping hot. It's full of potatoes and mushrooms, warm seasoning, and the crust is flaky and buttery. The chicken savory pie is good too but I like the mushroom a lot more. The custard pie is silky, lightly sweetened and topped with warm spices. Good things take time, be patient if dining in. I've seen Kemmy's pies being sold in stores along the north coast and in the Sonoma area so when I found out they were out of willits I had to make a stop. Kemmy's is a family run business located near the skunk train. It's a small, nice, clean shop where they bake their pies so you know it smells amazing as you walk in. I really enjoy their savory pies. I've had the chicken pot pie which is loaded with chunks of chicken, taco pie which was unique and had excellent flavor, and the prime rib, sage and mushroom (I think that's what it was called) which was my favorite. The pies are so hearty that they can feed a family of 4 with a ton left over! I don't like overly sweet pies so kemmy's pies are perfect for me. I enjoyed their pumpkin pie (which is obviously seasonal) and their cranberry, blueberry, walnut crumb. I've brought these pies for the holidays and over to friends houses and all have seemed to really enjoy them. This hidden gem is worth the short detour off the 101. read more

Drove through town and found this place, eureka! Delicious pies! I tried a taco personal pie (yummy, just what you'd expect, kind of reminds me of an old-school taco casserole) and brought home a peach-berry pie, which has been absolutely delicious! I usually miss out on Kemmy's because I only get to hang out in willits for a weekend. Since I was in town on a weekday, I gave them a call and placed an order for a couple of savory pies and a sweet pie. I went in to pick up my order a few hours later and couldn't help myself when I saw the cherry bites in the pastry display case. My wife and I started off with the cherry bites... DELICIOUS. We baked the taco pie for dinner and that was everything I could ask for in a savory pie. It was seasoned well and we couldn't get enough. We had the caramel apple crumb pie for dessert and that was fantastic as well. We still have the saged mushroom pie in the freezer but I'm looking forward to it as well as ordering a bunch more pies in the near future. read more

I saw the sign for this place on our way to our ride on the Skunk Train yesterday morning, and made a note to stop by after our train ride was done. Just after 12:30 PM, we disembarked our train and headed straight for the shop. My husband and I settled on a mini apple crumb pie. We were headed to get some "real food" before eating it, but we snuck a bite each and we loved it: the apples were perfectly cooked (al dente); the caramel and crumb topping weren't overwhelmingly sweet and perfectly complemented the apples; the crumb was tender and flaky. It took a bit of willpower, but we managed to leave the rest of the pie alone while we went to get lunch. It was a fairly warm day, so we just left the pie in the car to keep warm, and that trick worked! After lunch, we came back to the car and had a lovely, warm and scrumptious apple pie waiting for us. It was the best way to cap off a good meal! We are rarely ever in the area, but if and when we return, I will damn sure make a stop back here! read more

They were short staffed so a friend was helping. He was very nice but apparently had no training to help customers at all. They looked overwhelmed and said they had tons of orders to fill. They don't have the accommodations for walk ins..very little and awkward seating. They weren't prepared to give us to go orders. I think it was the owner who looked annoyed with me. It was a completely ordinary piece of overpriced pie. There was only two choices. I don't get what the big deal is about these pies.... They use to be sold in the local Willits Safeway. The pies, both at the grocery store and at the store in town are off.... The fruit pies are gummy, especially at the bottom.... The savory pies are ok, but expensive for what they are.... The Chile verde was meh.... The taco pie was something I could make better at home and for a lot less $$$. I've never been to / nor known any of the wonderful bakers employed at Kemmy's. What I do know is that they make extremely tasty pies which I've looked forward to over the years. How I crossed paths with Kemmy's. I was lucky to come across Kemmy's through grapevine connections many years ago. At that time, pies were only available in Willits, Ca where they are created. My Broil would visit Farmers markets in the area and was introduced to them. So, whenever he returned from trips he would have delicious goodies in tow. Some of which came from Kemmy's. Per their site; they are naturally made from local ingredients and made by hand to ensure quality. Superb quality I say. During a visit to my Sis and Broil (many years ago) it coincided with one of his travels back and we shared a savory chicken pot pie. Blown away was I. That was my first and a beginning to a recurring tradition with every new season I was back in Northern California. In subsequent trips I would get to try their turkey pie (only available during the holiday) and then the taco pie. Nothing, not nowhere, could top the flavors derived from one of Kemmy's savory pies. I've had pot pies across the nation, still haven't come across any better in the realm of savory. And still to this day I've only had their savory pies.. I feel at a loss for not having any of their fruit or specialty. This season I think rather than traversing the country to make a visit, I'll opt to shipping them back to Chicago. I've heard this is doable and am waiting on a response. Since they are not in the habit of freezing their pies this could be tricky. Speaking specifically of their savory pies; these are made with a rich crust on top and bottom. Roughly the size of a typical pie tin and chocked full of yummy ingredients engulfed in a thick gravy. There are a number of savory pies that they create and a few that are only available during holiday seasons. Some of my favorites are: turkey, chicken and taco. I like to pair their pies with a good locally crafted hot sauce, another ritual adopted from my sister and broil. A few brands to my liking; Mateo Granados "El Yuca" sauces and or from Tierra Vegetables. (I believe El Yuca sauces can be found in local groceries across Sonoma county, Ca) Per Kemmy's website, pies are also available through grocers in Mendocino, Lake and Sonoma counties. We were here for the Skunk Train and saw there was a sign stating "Pies". So we took a look and oh my god, it smelled great. Freshly baked pies!!! I let my wife choose, you know...happy wife happy life. She chose 2 pies, the first was Pecan Pie, which I normally do not like because it is too sweet for me....let me tell you their Pecan Pie is Delicious!!!!!! The Pie is not too sweet, just perfect. The second pie was a Cranapple Blueberry Walnut, man, it was great!!!!! Again, I am not a big fan of Apple pie but this pie was out of this world!!! While arranging for the Skunk Train ride out of Willits, Christina who took my reservation suggested to me to be sure to drop into Kemmy's pies located just behind the depot. She said they will bake the pies and have them ready upon the train's return. THANK YOU, Christina!!! Kimberly, the owner, greeted us that morning and took our order for two pies that would be hot and ready when the train ride returned, The pies are hand made at this location and shipped to stores for customers lucky enough to live in Humboldt, Mendocino or Sonoma counties in addition to being available at the Willits location. We ordered two: an apple crumb and a vanilla black raspberry pie. These pies are really made in heaven. I've enjoyed a lot of different pies in my life and both of these pies are at the summit of my favorites of all time! The apple flavor permeated the crumb crust covering the crisp slices of apples enveloped in a sweet glaze with a perfect blend of spices reminiscent of the best of holidays. The black raspberry pie was chockfull of tart, delicious berries hidden beneath a perfect crust in a glorious black-blue tangy glaze. We got the Chicken Pot Pie and had it for dinner. I grew up in KY and I've had a lot of pot pies in my life, but WOW this is the best one ever. Ordered pies for the holidays as the only 2 cooks in the house were not in the usual Christmas spirit during 2020. We decided to support local businesses as much as possible so we ordered a pecan and coconut merengue pie for pre Christmas pickup, upon retrieval the first half of the coconut disappeared 2 days before and the eve the pecan made a stir in the house the likes of Wich haven't happened in a couple years. The pecan was stuffed with pecans beyond belief making a little sad that the egg and corn syrup base didn't have a chance and this was for the bargain of $18 just go to the store and pickup 4 bags of shelled pecans for less. The coconut cream brought back childhood dreams and memories of a great grandma's recipe made from scratch no jello boxes insight just the old fashioned rue to pudding filling process with a nice thick layer of merengue and toasted coconut. The crusts were better than mine and the price would've been impossible to beat. I hope to retrieve a chicken or brisket savory soon and have another helping of coconut too!!!! read more

I find Kemmy's Pies at Big John's and Molsberry markets. The grocery store selection is hit-or-miss so you need to plan in advance if you want something special. Kemmy's is a delicious and affordable treat. It is not too sweet and the filling is real fruit, not all gooey mess. Great crust! And, I really like that it comes in two sizes: full size and an indulge yourself, personal size. Have company coming for dinner or just need to treat your family and if you can't make the drive to Mom's Apple Pie, go with Kemmy's. You will be very pleased. I'm pretty sure I've only made pie with crust once in my entire life (as a newlywed to please my husband except it didn't and remains a big joke).
