Our experience with Kemnitz as simply been horrible!! In a few words, we were very dispointed vist the service visit we got. We simply sent a courtesy email to express our disappointment as a feed back. Well we got a quick call back from Kemnitz, trying to justifying overprice and un-authorized repairs. They cllaim that they could not do a tune-up on a non operational unit. Our unit was fully operational and getting the house at the desired temperature. Rather than taking the opportinuty to improve their services, they chose to call me to blame me, yell at me, and hanup the phone. The call was chnage from maintenance agreement to service visit, without notifying me at any time, with the insiunation that our AC was not working. The techinician also mentionned to me that he had replace some parts, afetr the facts and without telling me. I nenevr saw the parts... We went for a $154 tune-up to a $585 invoice surprise. Their only argument is that since I sign the invoice at the end , that I agreed to everything. I also no feedback on a request quote for new equipement. I'll leave it to you to decide if that is the king opf service you want ... Me, I will not do business with a company that take to time to yell at the client rather than providing good service. read more

Per Kemnitz recommendation I spent over 14k for a new AC and Heater December 2023 and to date, both units have been broken. Multiple tech visits over the last month to no avail and my family continues to be without proper heat during the winter season. Do not do business with Kemnitz. We used this company and worked directly with the owner (Allen) back in 2008 and they always serviced our HVAC unit that they installed. Unfortunately this company is no longer the same and have some fast talking used car salesman type technicians (Jason) who only focus on selling you the new system. Our condenser unit had a problem just a few weeks ago and we called them to get it repaired. Their tech (Jason) came and from start focusing on selling me the whole new system and we told him that this has been a good system for us and this is the very first time that we had an issue and only with the condenser. So he checked the system and told us that you have to change two parts and gave us the price. He also mentioned that our compressor might also be going bad since we both could hear the rattling noise coming from the compressor. He also mentioned that some of these parts may no longer be available. He called and gave us the price for two parts but never bother to check from his distributor if the compressor for our model is even available or not. He came and installed those two parts and I paid them $1800 that I found out later by getting other estimates that these two parts would only cost including labor about half of what we paid to them. By that time the parts were already installed and it is our fault to trust them and not get other estimates before they were installed. Our unit worked for only one day and stop working and I called them again and he came and immediately told us that now your compressor is gone bad even though he is the expert and should have known and at least had the courtesy to call and make sure the compressor was even available before taking $1800 dollars from us and now that money went down to drain and he said that now we have no choice but to replace the unit and gave us an estimate of another $10,000 plus to install the new condenser. At this point and after doing my due diligence that I should have done from the beginning, we knew that this company is no longer an ethical business and the owner (Allen) has these fast talking sales people/technician basically running his company and their main job is to make as much money as possible and just gouge customers. We have lost $1800 dollars in the repairs that Kemnitz should have never performed and instead should have first called the manufacturer to make sure that the compressor along with the other two parts were all still available before making the repairs and should have let us know so we could have saved that $1800 dollars and gotten some comparable bids from other companies as well to replace the condenser. We feel like Kemnitz stole from us and now they want to steal even more by giving us an estimate to replace the condenser for another $10,000. We are very disappointed with this company and would never recommend or use this company again in the future. There are other good and ethical HVAC companies here in Irvine as well as in Orange county. read more

It is always sad (and upsetting) to deal with a company that had been excellent, but has lost its moral compass. We used Kemnitz for many years to deal with problems with our heating and air conditioning systems. We were always pleased. Hence, when we had a new problem, I immediately called them. The technician came out and said there was a problem with the control board. He indicated that since the system was old, these parts were no longer available. Rather we would have to change the system. I indicated to the repairman that we did not want to spend more money than necessary on this repair. That afternoon, I received from the company two estimates for that work, neither was for the top-of-the-line system. The "cheap" one was $11,250.67; the more expensive was $14,214.78. However, I was told the work could be done quickly because Kemnitz had the equipment in stock. Before doing such a major repair, I decided to call for another estimate. I turned to Yelp for a suggestion and called "First Choice Heating and Air Conditioning." Their repairman also indicated that the control board would have to be replaced, but indicated that these were in stock. The next day he returned with the new part and installed it for a total charge of less than $500. The heating system is working perfectly. Kemnitz used to be an honorable company. Perhaps the challenges of Covid have generated serious financial problems which have pushed them to the edge. Perhaps the old management of the company was simply more honest. Whatever the explanation, DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE CROOKS. read more

Beware - This Company will try to take advantage of you. Our AC unit began cycling a week ago. I called Kemnitz because they fixed the unit in the past when no one else could. Customer service (Kiley) was very nice and sent someone to check the unit within the hour. However, after the repair tech (Larry) checked the unit, he recommended a new system. He said ours is 18 years old and degrading. Larry said it needed a new blade, motor, relay and capacitor. We waited two days to receive the written quotes. One for parts to repair the unit ($1300). Another to replace the unit ($14,000). My husband is disabled, in a wheelchair and fighting cancer. I really needed to get the AC working again, for his sake. But the findings didn't seem reasonable to me. I found another company to look over the unit. He found no need for the replacement parts but found the freon was low. He brought the freon up and the unit has run great for two weeks now. Use good judgement if you decide to go with this company. read more

Made a phone call to Kemnitz to schedule an appointment for service which was quickly answered, but they were booked for the Memorial Day weekend and next available service was one week out from the day I called. There was no rush and I decided to go with the company because they had serviced my unit before. Jason was my service technician and he was extremely polite and professional. He called me within the time frame of my appointment to let me know he was on his way. When he arrived, he was able to immediately identify a couple issues with my unit (air filter, fuse not in place causing low voltage to the fan) and gave me some recommendations on my unit. He was also patient with me on all my questions and concerns and within 15 minutes of him arriving, my AC was running and the only extra part I need to purchase is an air filter. Shout out to Jason for not only being efficient about diagnosing the issue with my AC unit but he even had shoe cozies to cover his shoes while he walked inside my house! Of all the HVAC people I have dealt with, he has easily been the most courteous and helpful. read more

I called them to check and repair my home air conditioning unit. They politely told me the service call was $99.95 and I said ok. The technician came out and checked the Freon level and told me it was low and I need a whole new system for $7200 Mimimum because after Jan 2020 R22 Freon can't be manufactured or imported into the country anymore. I asked him if he could just recharge it now and he said no because they don't do that anymore. So my complaint is this: Why couldn't they have asked me how old the unit was over the phone? Then they could have told me the rest of the story. I think it's a total ripoff to charge me $99.95 to come to my house and give me the sales pitch to replace my air conditioning unit AND I might as well replace the heater too because it's 19 years old but works perfectly because we hardly ever use it. Note THIS, R22 isn't illegal after 2020, it just can't be manufactured or imported into the country after that. Of course the price will increase but it will still be available for a long time after. So I will not be calling them when I want to replace my unit. In the meantime I had someone else come and recharge it with R22. It will probably last for 3-4 years like it always has in the past. When I decide to replace the unit someday I will have "someone else" do it. read more

I rarely use my air conditioner and thoughtbit was time to get the system serviced. From calling to schedule the appointment to having Larry the technician service the unit and answering the questions I had, he ended up installing better registers throughout the house as well as an amazing new thermostat. When he installed the new registers he paid very close attention to details in cleaning everything as if it were his own house. Above and beyond the best service. Great people who exhibit pride in customer service and workmanship. Would only use them in the future. read more

If I could give ZERO I would... I asked for a breakdown for the work and they refused and it was over $7,000. That is not a small amount. Spoke to the owner who was completely rude and refused to say how much things cost and said "that is our practice". I am actually stunned at this response. I am curious if any of these high ratings had just taken the "project fee" at face value or asked for a breakdown...now if I was only paying $500 it would be a different conversation but if they want $7,600 it only seems fair...but appartely not. He said "I am not going to share my profit margins with you". I NEVER asked for his "profit margins".... I said it is is like taking your car to a mechanic and he tells you the "cost for the parts and labor" but this guy says he just lists the "project fee"... No doubt he is living happily ever after I am sure making a ton of money out of his "projects". read more

I'm warm! My furnace stopped working before the holidays and it was cold inside and out. I like to tinker with things so I Googled and Youtube'd. I tried this and that, ordered this part and that tool and still could not get it work. I called Kemnitz, who has been taking care of my AC and furnace since around 2005, and they dispatched Jason who fixed the problem. I wasted a lot of time and a decent amount of money before I called the guys who knew what they were doing. Last year we moved into a new place in Irvine and the heat didn't work in the middle of a cold January. I was referred to Kemnitz and they took care of it the next day. The service was prompt, friendly and high quality. The heater was fixed right away and the fee was reasonable. Last week the A/C stopped cooling and I called Kemnitz and requested Joshua again. He just left and replaced the broken capacitor on the main unit outside in less than 15 minutes. A/C is working fine again. Joshua is caring, professional and gets the job done! This was from a year ago. We've used Kemnitz for years, but last year had someone out for a unit that was failing. I was quoted an outrageous price for two new units (another reaching its end of life) as he told me, after the first of the year the price would double. We chose not to do the work at the time, something seemed "off". The second unit died. We called someone else out last week and both units are working like champs. Blower motor and capacitor needed. It was all under $500. Kemnitz had quoted over $30k for new units as they were shot (per tech). They never trouble shot anything, just said the units were dead. I don't trust them anymore. read more

Our heater randomly stopped working a few days ago, so I looked on yelp and found Kemnitz. Called them up and they were able to schedule me in quickly . Failed to fix my AC problem after many visits. Need better technicians certainly. But they are responsive.

I called to have my heater checked as it went out intermittently. A young man came and turned the thermostat on and off several time and declared it is working now and charged me $85 service call. He stated I needed a new heater. I called someone else a few days later and they came out and replaced the "board" for parts and labor at $275. Needless to say, I will never deal with Kemnitz again after the 20 years of giving them the benefit of a doubt. I now wonder how much I have been taken in the past. read more

On a day when everywhere more than a few miles from the beach broke the century mark, someone getting your AC working should probably get 50 stars. But, being objective, I'm giving Kemnitz four stars because: Pros: 1. Paul (the technician) was on time and let me know when he was en route. In fact, he got here before I did. 2. Instead of waiting around, he went up to the roof to check out the unit and make sure that aspect was running. 3. Shoe covers, 'nuf said. 4. My condo is under 80 degrees (not just in the middle of the night) for the first time in weeks. Cons: 1. Service hours, I had to leave work early to ensure I would be here. Misc: The AC's not necessarily fixed for good as the issue was tied to a weak breaker. But thanks to Paul's explanation, I have a general understanding of the issue and the potential cost of fixing it. When you call their office you receive courteous treatment from there on. They go out of there way to assist you with your needs, whether they are heating or air conditioning related. These guys USED to be great:-( In the past, Kemnitz has provided outstanding service for our 5 and 2-ton units. Yesterday, a Kemnitz technician diagnosed our 2-ton Carrier unit as having a failed compressor as well as a failed fan motor run capacitor, and off he went. I subsequently received a quote in excess of $8000 to replace the entire system. I then bought a replacement fan motor run cap from a local motor shop ($6.00), installed it, and the system is running just fine! What bullshit! I have used this company for years and they are great. I called earlier in the week and got the appointment I was looking for at the end of the week. I had a technician named Joey come to this house this time for maintenance issue for upstairs AC. I was having a condensation drip coming from underneath roof line that wouldn't stop . He called beforehand to say he was on his way and running early. I like that! He was very professional putting slip-on booties on over his work boots. Joey diagnosed the issue right away and did the necessary maintenance on upstairs AC. I also had him do maintenance on my downstairs AC . Kemnitz had installed the downstairs AC 2 years ago and did a phenomenal job. Joey recommended putting safety valves on the units in attic to prevent a leak from happening. I went ahead with his recommendation . Joey was knowledgeable and very efficient. Very nice guy!! Our AC is working perfectly in this hot weather. Had the furnace and fan replaced, also got high flow vents. The service was very quick and knowledgeable, they had everything moving very quick so we can have a warm house the next night (I had to sign a waiver to speed things up, it's the law, they helped us with that). The installation next day was pretty quick and clean. They covered the floors, but you still have to vacuum afterwards, of course, they took down a 26yr old furnace covered in dust and (I'm assuming) spiders from the attic, that's normal. But the whole process was cleaner and faster than expected and I appreciated that. Of course there is always a funny guy who talks too much or seems annoyed by you, but the others were professional and courteous, doing a great job! read more

For years our ac froze you in the office and no ac in the bedroom. Other company quoted $1500 plus to fix it. Larry, from Kemnitz called 30 minutes before arrival and arrived on time. Very professional young man!!! He diagnosed the problem , installed several dampers and balanced the entire air flow throughout the house. On one the hottest days of the year my AC decides to stop working. I was able to get a service call the very next early in the morning. The technician Joey Vasco came to my rescue. Not only was he very professional and courteous but very knowledgeable! He had to withstand the 99 degree temperature while working on my unit in the backward unshaded. Within a couple of hours the temperature in my house dropped from 91 degrees to a comfortable 80. My puppy Luna and I thank your company for hiring people like Joey. Our AC stopped working for a day and we have a 9 month old, so we were extremely worried. We called a bunch of companies and none had availability for weeks out. We called Kemnitz and while they too were booked they made an exception and offered same day service. Matt came out and was extremely professional, nice and patient. He tested the unit several times to make sure it's working properly (turned out it was all fine but he did several checks to make sure there isn't an issue). Hopefully the "issue" is now resolved, but should we need a re-check we will definitely contact Kemnitz again! Highly rec So turned out there was an issue with our AC that caused it to stop working around 6pm one night. The temp in the house reached 86 and our baby could not sleep. Eventually we had to take her for a drive in the car with AC blasting for her to fall asleep. I called the company the next day and Michelle reassured me she would find someone to come out at that same to fix the problem (even though they were so busy and fully booked!). Larry ended up coming out and figuring out what was wrong with the unit and replaced the bad part. He was very professional and nice and AC was up and working again. That same night the unit failed AGAIN. we called Michelle again first thing in the morning and she made sure to send out someone say day. Allen and Matt came out and quickly realized that the part that had been replaced just wasn't a good part so they swapped it out. It's been well over a week and all is good!!! AC is back on full blast and we couldn't be happier. I cannot say enough good things about the company. Michelle was so kind and helpful all along and Allen, Matt and Larry are extremely professional and know their stuff. I couldn't get the furnace to fire up when this cold snap hit earlier this week. Kemnitz had a cancellation yesterday, fit me in and sent Jason over to take a look. He was professional and knowledgeable, and after running some checks, determined that our 21 year old Carrier (lifespan of 20 years) had a bad circuit board. He was straight up about the repair and the ending lifespan of the heater, but without any hard sell on a new one. We had issues with our thermostat not working (it's July). They scheduled us for 3 business days out, then had a cancellation so bumped us up a business day to Friday instead of Monday. Brandon was out bright and early and fixed the issue with a new transistor, and we were good to go within an hour. He was very polite and courteous. He inspected our heater and quickly determined the problem. He explained everything to my husband and I, gave us the cost to repair and left to pick up the parts needed. He returned quickly and had the heater working within the hour. Before he left he asked if we had any questions and explained the parts warranty.
