Akron, Ohio is home to one of the best dining experiences anywhere. Yes, Akron. Ken Stewart's excels at good food, great service and a wine list better than the best Michelin starred eatery. I eat here twice a year on golf outings to FCC and I've had the best steaks NYC, Chicago, LA, KC, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and any other city from Tokyo to London can serve up, and KS beats them all. This place is a gem. The apps are fantastic, and even the seafood in this far inland hideaway are fresh and delightfully prepared. I was fortunate to be a guest at the September Italian Wine Tasting event. The meal was carefully prepared by Executive chef Jeremy Heinl and his capable staff. The presentation was impressive and served by a quality staff. Each course was a lavish creation that meticulously paired with sumptuous wines. Of particular note were the Fig and Burrata Bruschetta with Prosciutto, arugula, cracked peppercorn drizzled with a balsamic glaze, The Pan Seared Black Bass was exquisite. The Ceretto Barolo was a preeminent selection and set off with a magnificent lemon risotto. A Zenato Amarone was the perfect companion to a white bean cassolette. Our first visit to this well known establishment. Staff was friendly and the décor is definitely old school. Started with a couple of no-frill cocktails keeping with old school theme. A good pour. Spicy mussel appetizer followed. Fresh w/ a slightly spicy broth. Well paired tastes. Table side Caesar salad followed. Expertly prepared and a large portion. Excellent. Steak and seafood were perfectly prepared. Loved the cheesecake for dessert. Not too heavy and the crust didn't overwhelm the dessert. Our waiter, Gary, was attentive and knowledgeable. What has happened to Ken Stewart's Grill??? My wife and I have been enjoying Ken Stewart's Grill for 20 years and have always had great service and great food in an upscale, classy atmosphere. (Last night they seated some oaf in a polo shirt (tails out), shorts and sandals). In the past, it was nearly impossible to find a table on a Friday or Saturday evening without an advance reservation. The last three times we've been there the place has been virtually empty. Has Ken sold the restaurant? Is he devoting most of his time to the Lodge at the expense of the Grill? New chef? New manager? Whatever........something has changed. Last evening, our waitress forgot a side we ordered, and NEARLY forgot an appetizer. As previous posts have pointed out, this is not the kind of experience you expect when you spend $200.00. Although the menu has been DRASTICALLY reduced, the food is still very good. As much as I hate to say it, I think we are going to give Ken Stewart's a rest. I don't know what it is, but the Ken Stewart's Grill "vibe" has changed. read more

My husband and I love this place. We live close by and go fairly often - usually about once a month, but sometimes more. We always sit on the bar side as its a little more upbeat than the dining room. We always share a caesar salad and he always gets the burger (we are creatures of habit). I switch it up sometimes I get the filet, other times the burger, or most recently a pasta dish. I love the fallen chocolate souffle and he likes the bread pudding. The food is always good, the atmosphere is comfortable, and we always have a good experience. My only real criticism is that their cocktails could be a little better. They revamped the cocktail menu earlier this year, which helped, but the execution is still a little lacking. They always taste a little off balanced. That said - its never stopped us from ordering them :) read more

For years this has been one of Ohio's iconic destination restaurants. Last nights dinner reinforced why this well deserved reputation has endured. Two creative shrimp appetizers and a delicate yellowtail preparation began the evening. The enormous mushroom salad was upstaged by a truly spectacular preparation of Chilean Sea Bass. This was all topped off with a masterful bread pudding. Good food is not enough at this level. Today's dining is theater and the setting and the service must match the food. Our server was delightful informed ,professional and charming.We ate in the bar which provided just the right mix of a warm setting and good energy. During dinner an older gentlemen and his younger spouse chose to pull up a chair and tell us why they loved Kens. To our surprise the couple bought us two Ken Stewart T Shirts which we immediately donned to cap a very special and highly recommended dining experience. read more

After years of hearing about KSG, the opportunity arose to have a rarity- a business dinner during the weekend-in Akron. Drove down 77 from the CLE with my companion to meet up with 5 others. I would definitely make the trip again. Just a nice, classic, well-run white tablecloth restaurant that understands who and what they are. First, our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and thoroughly described the extensive special dishes. Appetizers were great-Baked Brie, calamari, scallop special-all prepared right and visually appealing as well. My table -prepared Caesar salad was brought to me complete but looked and tasted scratch-made. Now for the steak- a 10 ounce special served with Gorgonzola sauce-quite simply one of he best I've had anywhere. Seriously did not need a steak knife-a butter knife would have easily cut through this delicious cut. Way to go Akron and KSG!- I had such a great experience I might forgive you all for putting up those "Home of LeBron James" signs at the city limits! read more

I have been to KS many times, this last time was just that, our LAST time. My husband and I were there for dinner. I ordered the three fillet and when they came they were literally char col ( I ordered med well) I explained to the mgr that I never complain about my food but I was literally spitting gristle into my napkin. The Mgr interrupted me to tell me that is how their steaks are prepared. I proceeded to tell her that of all the fillets I have gotten there, none of them were burnt to that extreme. she kindly took the plate, meanwhile left our sides and my husbands food on the table. approx. 10 minutes later my food was returned and looked like it should have looked the first time, rather than make sure my husbands food wasn't cold (which is was) she was going to walk away so we had to ask to have his food warmed up. we finished our meal with total disappointment. rather than offer and apology or anything of that manner, our bill was brought and that was it. We eat at high quality restaurants frequently and in no way expect anything for free but to not even apologize and make certain we as customers were satisfied we were just ignored. so then it becomes the principle of it all. We will NOT be back. the food isn't that good that it cant be beat by the guy up the road. read more

I wanted to take my girlfriend on a fancy dinner to celebrate her getting a new job so I heard Ken Stewart's fit that description. I called to make reservations for the dining room but when wIe arrived the hostess lead us to a high top table in the corner of the lounge with a great view of the wall. We promptly asked for a new table and were finally escorted to a booth in the dining room. We quick;y noticed the out dated decor throughout the dining room--giant ugly paintings in even uglier frames hung on the walls and vases with white swirly sticks sat on flat surfaces throughout. On the wall just inches from our table was a wall sconce with old dusty and dirty lampshades. Out of curiosity I put my hand on the molding above our table and brought back fingers covered in dust. Our waitress was very good and deserved five stars. She told us about all of the specials that weren't on the menu and was very attentive. The food was okay. I had a tuna steak encrusted in sesame seeds which was very good but it was presented with a worn out wooden-handled steak knife. My girlfriend ordered a filet with a lobster tail from the specials. The steak was a little over cooked around the edges, the lobster was over cooked all together and her plate came with a heaping pile of onion straws. It looked like something from Applebees and not a $70 entre at a "fancy restaurant". We both enjoyed our deserts They were well worth the money. All in all it seems like Ken Stewarts is trying too hard to be an upscale restaurant. The ambiance, decor, cleanliness, and food presentation do not match the prices on the menu.
