Food: excellent fish bowl, fish burger and house salad! The fish on both the bowl and the burger was black cod. This fish was delicious, well cooked, sweet, buttery and tasty! My burger had some sliced red ginger and micro greens. Her bowl was on a bed of rice with mixed green salad The salad was their house salad with a sprinkle of seaweed, pickled white onions and pickled cucumbers. The house dressing was delicious. Food is made to order, and so it will take a while. After all, you're on the islands here. Our food came out, hot and well presented. Yet, the bowl and the salad were served in compostable, paper bowls, which don't do justice to the food. The foods here could be well presented on a plate or other item. The burger came in the basket. Yeah, ambience is sort of sports bar. I'm like, with two big screens with football on while we were there. The football announcers were on with audio, at the volume slightly below the competing reggae playlist. That was it awkward. , The outdoor tables are nice, and a view towards the mountains is very nice. Recommended! The context is based on ordering at the counter, getting a number for your order and then finding a table. At the Kilauea location all tables are outside. Bar seating is inside. read more

The food was good for me, but my wife didn't fully enjoy her entree. I had the fish bowl, while my wife had the locomoco. I like the place and the bar looked really nice as well. I saw the interactions between the bartender and other patrons, and it looked like a great place to have a drink with your crew. I would go again and try other dishes as well. read more

We came here today for lunch. We entered and ordered at the counter. Counter service was fine. Got our number for our seating area. Sat and waited at least half an hour. They were quite busy so we were wondering and getting worried. Our food finally came. I wanted to try something different so I ordered the Misoyaki Fish Sandwich. I was actually impressed, I enjoyed this choice of Burger. The fish was moist and delicious. The miso sauce was tasty. The bun was alittle toasted but could have used more toasting. What threw it off was the pickled ginger. But overall the Burger was delicious. I'd order it again. My husband ordered the regular burger and enjoyed it. These burgers are so delicious and flavorful! A chain across Kauai, they use 100% Kauai beef. This location is in a strip mall with ample parking. There is outdoor seating with two TVs under a covered patio. We tried the ahi burger and hapa burger, and both were insanely delicious in their own way. The ahi was lighter, but they don't skimp on the ahi. There is a huge ahi steak in the middle cooked to perfection. The hapa burger is doused in a delicious sauce. A must visit! read more

We stopped for lunch at Kenji Burger while heading through town. I noticed while looking through the reviews that this is a Triple D spot so I was happy to try it out. The food was pretty good but not 4 or 5 star. I tried the Kenji Burger and the Chicken Katsu sandwich along with some fries. Fries were good, nice and crispy. I did like the chicken, it was crispy and flavorful, and the sauce was tasty. The burger was a regular burger, and I could taste the soy sauce that they say is added into all of their burger meat. It was an interesting flavor. They had a selection of beers to try, I did the Coconut Porter which wasn't bad. The seating area is small, we were lucky to find a table, but it was during lunchtime so that's to be expected. There is a large table out front, but they won't let you sit at that one if you have alcoholic drinks. The person who took our order at the counter wasn't that friendly, but the woman who brought our food was very nice. We had ordered the Kenji Burger at the counter but it didn't get put in as part of our order, and we didn't notice we weren't even charged for it. When we told her we had ordered the burger she told the kitchen and they got it out to us immediately, free of charge which was very kind. I'd probably come here again but I'd seek out other burger places to try first. read more

Just had the misfortune of ordering and eating their food today (Jan 24, 2025). My comparisons for any hamburgers are generally related to: In & Out, Shake Shack, Super Duper, Steak & Shake, McDonalds etc. Kenji Burger ranks the worst on every aspect: presentation, food texture, taste, overall value, freshness and a sense of satisfaction. 1. Fries were cold and hard. Worst fries I have ever had. 2. Kenji Burger patties tasted like chewy rubber. 0 flavor and dripping with liquid sauces everywhere. Utterly gross. Did not taste like 100% grass fed patties. 3. Kenji Burger adds mandatory gratuity on all online pick up orders!!! That's some next level sense of false entitlement. This place is so bad that it makes McDonald's & Burger King look like fine dining. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money here. read more

This review is specific to the Truffle burger since it is what I got. It's a pretty simple burger listed to have truffle aioli, Swiss cheese, and Japanese mushrooms. The first bite into this burger was disappointment. They give a good amount of the aioli, but there is no truffle flavor at all (not even a hint) so it's just a bunch of mayo; the burger patty had no seasoning, and the mushrooms lacked flavor as well. Even just some salt probably could have helped this burger in a lot of ways because it lacked so much. I am not one to waste food, but I had about 4 bites before I couldn't eat it anymore. That said, we also go the deep fried gyoza and furikake fries, which were good. If you go here, I'd recommend it for a quick bite to eat and if you aren't wanting any special type of cuisine because this place will not blow you away. read more

TLDR: a fusion that's a must try in Hawaii. This Guy Fieri placed is a hit. I can be a little skeptical when it comes to places featured on diners drive ins and dives. They have a reputation of being hit or miss for me but I'm happy to report this place is a certified hit. It's nothing fancy but they do everything well and there's not a bad spot on the menu. I went with my family while vacationing in Kauai and we were really impressed with everything we ordered. We went to the Koloa location and it was surrounded by some nice local shops making this a great place to grab a bite while shopping. We did takeout but service was quick and the people were friendly. Kenji burger: An absolute must get. If you love sweet and savory this is right up your alley. The bun was a little brittle but the burger was nice and meaty and the yuzu really came through to give it a dash of sweetness. 9/10. Misoyaki fish sandwich: This was the biggest surprise. I was not expecting this level of quality from the fish and it was seared to perfection with nice crispy edges. The miso flavor was balanced well with the ginger. 9.5/10 Chicken katsu bowl: Generous portion, fried to perfection, and delicious sauce. A really good option if you have a picky eater in the crew. 8/10. Japanese burrito: It's sushi in burrito form what's not to like. I was impressed impressed that the layer of rice wasn't too much so you could focus on the fish. Other places making sushi burritos should take notes. All of the seafood came together well. 8.5/10 Furikake fries: These are not to be skipped. My family ate these up quickly and for good reason. They are so addicting. One of my favorite meals on the island! The Misoyaki fish sandwich made with black cod AKA butterfish might be the best twist I've ever had on the bento classic. A Buttery toasted bun, sweet and savory miso ginger sauce, fresh greens and nori make up an amazing sandwich. The bowl is basically the same thing with rice instead of the bun. Kind of a bummer. Really wanted to like this place. Couple issues. They appear to be trying too hard to create fancy/special burgers rather than just really good burgers. But the buns were excellent. #1. Hamburger meat was dry, Furikake fries were too wet, Chicken sando was just right. I was expecting a dry seasoning on the fries as described most everywhere on line.....not something that appeared to be mayo based. Perhaps my misunderstanding. #2. Bartender dude. Very confident in himself ....to the point of speaking loudly over my wife and I as we ended up having to sit at the bar after ordering. Apparently we were not aware of the house rule of only those ordering at the bar can sit at the bar. So he had to nearly yell this "reminder" to the cashier as if she created the issue. She just kinda looked at him with a WTF FH look. All dry tables were taken in the outside area & the only available seats outside were very wet from the rain. Mr. Sure of Himself with the cool gauge barely acknowledged us after I explained the moist seating issues not being addressed by anyone at that time. Strange thing is I am sure the money from both areas ends up in the same bank account & if Mr. Cocky had treated us as paying guests rather than bar conquering colonists he would have been tipped at a higher level on the total bill....irregardless of which register the $$$ went in. Having spent years in food service, that is the proper thing to do. The other issue was the crap beer selections. All big brand crap except for Garrets MBC Big Swell (the biggest brand on the islands). While, I understand the happy hour pricing reason provided by Mr Cocky from a cost perspective for not having any good local Kauai beers.... It is simple enough to have a happy hour, and have only selected beers be part of the happy hour pricing. I would think, supporting local businesses on a small island would be a target of all local businesses on the small island. We hit Kauai regularly and are able to find killer burgers elsewhere.....was really hoping this would become our go to & place to recommend....but it was not to be. I'm giving this four stars instead of 3 because A) they were open when a lot of places weren't at 1:30pm on a Friday in Kilauea. and B) the location and outdoor seating was great (shady, plenty of room, good parking). The food was so-so, at least for us. My spouse was craving Kauai beef, so this hit the spot. His burger was a little too messy and saucy, though, and a little overcooked. However, the manager was very nice and explained that they were having a little staffing issue this week so some of the cooks might not have been as skilled at burger-making as usual. I had the veggie burger and it was fine. It kind of reminded me of a burger you'd give to a kid - nothing to write home about.
