Very filling but of course I got carne asada fries as well. Everything was amazing and the portions are huge. My friend ordered the California burrito I believe and it was ridiculously huge. Been here a few times through the years both for prepared food and store bought items. Kennedy's is known for high quality meats which also is reflected in their prices. On my last recent visit, I ordered the $10 super burrito. Without reservation, it is the largest around. Huge! However, the quality is mediocre at best. The first time I ordered this item, it was pretty decent begging the question "how can they serve this at a relatively bargain price?" I noticed though that there was not the long waiting line like when they first started this promotional. In fact, there was practically no one else ordering (at prime dinner time). So I carried out the burrito, with both hands. But when it was time to feast, it became apparent that the the predominant ingredients were ground meat and mashed beans. Even though there's quite a bit of food, it's flavor reflects low end basic fillers. In all fairness, I uprated to 3 stars only because you get enough to feed a few people, which counters the "nothing to write home about" ingredients. read more

Without a doubt the most unbelievably good California Burrito I've had. The staff was amazing and customer service was off the charts. Be prepared to take it to go or eat outdoors, but no problem as the seating was limited. The carne asada plate/dinner was "okay" but recommend the burrito instead. It looks like you get a pizza sized tortilla stuffed with all things amazing! If it wasn't for the plate/dinner (not enough food) it would be 5 stars. Unfortunately, we did go back, and it wasn't nearly as good and not sure what changed. Maybe the move was the cause, but we took our son there as it was his birthday and it was pretty bad. Tough meat and just not great. So I updated to 3 stars. The kids don't want to go back and we probably won't make the drive again. Valley Parkway is the strip to take a stroll on during Taco Tuesdays in Escondido. There's the famous TJ Tacos selling adobada that reportedly rivals the world famous Tacos El Gordo. There's the well known Vallarta Supermarket and numerous San Diego style taquerias slinging burros, quesadillas, mullitas, and tacos. There are even Mexican grills on Valley Parkway that hire sign twirlers to advertise their $1 fish tacos. But one place caught my attention. It had an attractive check-in offer. $1 per taco, maximum 5. Despite having a name that doesn't quite come across as a taco joint and zero cars in the parking lot at noon, I still walked through the doors of Kennedy's Karne for lunch. I'm so glad I did. The owner greeted me with enthusiasm and took my order. You order at the counter first and another staff member prepares the food in an open kitchen. Everything is prepared fresh to order, meaning the meats are grilled on the spot, not premade and scooped up from steam tables. I ordered 5 tacos - 2 carne asada, 2 pollo asado, and 1 adobada. It took about 15 minutes to assemble. They were not the typical $1 street tacos, but rather full sized tacos which were approximately double the size of street tacos. Each taco was constructed with semi-greased dual 6" corn tortillas, filled with smoky BBQ'd meats, loaded with onions, cilantros, and a dollop of creamy guacamole. You heard me right, a full-sized taco with guacamole for just $1!! The tortillas were nothing special and tasted like packaged ones. The meats though (straight out of the meat counter) exceeded expectations. That's sort of an understatement though, because this meat market's carne asada had apparently been the winner of many carne asada competitions in the region and has been around for decades. The carne asada was my favorite, it was prepared with USDA chuck meat. At first, its citrus-sweet marinade was dominant and then the charred and smoky tastes later became apparent. Pollo asado, or chicken thigh, was on the dry side but actually tasted great after the accompanying salsa was poured over the meat. The salsa was relatively mild but had the desirable verdant, dark, earthy flavors of toasted chile. Adobada was standard, it was diced into small chunky pieces. Personally, I would recommend going to TJ Taco instead for their adobada due to the way they slice the meat into thin strips. With $5 in your pocket, you can get 5 carne asada tacos which is very filling even for a fat guy like me. Go try it for yourself. This is the Mexican meat market I'd want to pick up carne asada from for a barbecue. read more

FOOD: I got carne asada tacos and carnitas tacos. The carne asada is really juicy, but the carnitas are pretty dry. Personally, I thought there was too much guacamole on each taco and one of my friends agreed. Another friend also added that there wasn't enough meat in the tacos. Overall, I thought that the carne asada was good, but there are definitely better taco places in the area. Kennedy's Karne tastes like an LA taco not an SD taco if you know what I mean lol. WAIT: One of my friend got her tacos about 10 mins after she ordered them, but me and my other friends didn't get our tacos until about 30-40 mins after we ordered. There was one group ahead of us, but I didn't think that was enough people to take that long to make tacos. SERVICE: The workers were really nice when they took our orders. Visited 2/28/2017 After reading the yelp reviews for this place I decided this was dinner tonight for this taco Tuesday. And I certainly wasn't disappointed. From the moment I walked through the door I felt at home. The guys behind the counter making great-looking tacos told me to place my order over at the register and pick the food up here afterwards. At the register was a very lovely lady she was very friendly and very helpful. I check in on yelp and discovered with a check in I could have five full-size tacos for one dollar each. I was amazed. So I ordered the five tacos one of each selection of meat. Of course you have to haven orange soda with tacos as that's tradition. This place is mostly take out although there is three or four tables outside the front. I sat down and tasted the tacos one by one just so amazed I had gotten such a great deal on taco Tuesday here in Escondido. All the tacos were extremely flavorful plenty of meat in each just the right amount of pico. I will be back to try some of their other dishes that's for sure. There's a huge selection of preseasoned meats and other authentic sauces and dip's for sale also. I give this place a strong 3 1/2 to 4 Stare. read more
