The Best Special in Escondido!!!
Orlando P.

Long time establishment in Escondido providing top quality meats and groceries and a grill to serve delicious Mexican cuisine. Service is always friendly and helpful. Great selection of marinated meats for parties at reasonable prices. Very bright and clean eating area with lots of tables and chairs. Private parking lot has ample parking spaces.

Grilled USDA Choice Carne Asada Fries

Carne Asada Fries ($14.74) - This is one of my new favorite carne asada fries. The thick, high-quality cuts of steak were grilled to perfection and had a nice marinade. The fries were a surprising highlight because of how well seasoned and crispy they were. All the toppings went so well together and yielded such a delicious meal. Highly recommend!

Always top quality meats! My favorites are the Burgandy or Habanero Mango marinated carne. I recently discovered that they will cook the meat up for you too if you ask which was super helpful since I don't currently have a grill at home. Everyone there has always been friendly and helpful. Their burritos and bowls are also excellent, they have a few tables inside to sit and eat there or you can take it to-go. It's not the cheapest option for Mexican food near by, but the quality of the meat is worth it. I love that you have choices of black or refried beans and between poblano and Spanish rice. Add their jalapeño queso to your burrito - you won't be disappointed!

Bean and Cheese

Stopped by today for a couple carne asada tacos and a couple bean & cheese burritos to share with my son. Totaling $30 The establishment was meticulous. Offering items to purchase to take home and cook. Plenty of seating with an really clean kitchen. (Always a good sign) The cashier and the chef were both friendly and professional. On to the food: The bean & cheese burritos are just as I remembered them from high school. They're the best. We used to go almost every week for one of them, and obviously because they're superior to other b&c burritos nearby. The tortilla they use here are top tier too. 10/10 The carne asada was a decent portion of higher quality meat, it tasted freshly grilled with a hint of citrus, the guacamole was yummy, and the tortilla was so good. You know when you get tacos to go and the tortilla becomes both/either hard and soggy? Not here, after my twenty minute drive the tortilla was the perfect texture and not soggy or hardened. 10/10 wish I got two for myself.

These are the classic Texas Twinkies with carnitas filling. There is a total of 20.

Best meat market in Escondido! We always get the habanero chicken thighs and or breasts. If we are lucky we pick up the classic Texas Twinkies and make them all dice them up and use it for pretty much anything like burgers, baked potatoes or whatever you can think of. They have also made me a special order upon request for the Twinkies that was WONDERFUL customer service. I am actually going to pick some up right now so you better go and get some before they run out!

This place hands down has the best burgundy Pepper Carne Asada. The habanero chicken thighs and breast are excellent as well.

TJ Tacos was a disappointing experience. We ordered 12 tacos, and the total came out to almost $59,…read morewhich felt very expensive for what we received. The tacos had very little meat, and the portions were not satisfying. To make matters worse, our order only came with four hot sauces. When we politely asked for more hot sauce and extra napkins, the staff refused. We were also told that only one napkin was allowed per plate, which was surprising. Even other taco places, like Frida's, are much more accommodating. Overall, the food did not justify the price, and the customer service left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, this was an unpleasant visit, and I won't be returning. I'll definitely be taking my business somewhere else in the future.

The first time I visited a few weeks ago, I had a really positive experience. The location was a little hard for me to find, but once I got there, it seemed worth it. I walked in craving a breakfast burrito and was helped by a very nice, slender gentleman at the counter. I asked for a ham, bacon, and sausage breakfast burrito and also requested that it be cut in half. He was friendly, said no problem, and within minutes I had exactly what I ordered. That burrito was delicious. The salsa station was stocked and convenient with self-serve cups readily available, and the atmosphere was nice. The people around me were friendly, and one gentleman even mentioned this was the place that used to be near Peterson's Donuts. Overall, it was a great first impression and I left happy, already planning to come back. Fast forward to today, Saturday, April 25, 2026 around 10:30 AM, and unfortunately, my second experience was the complete opposite. This time there was a young woman working the register, and from the moment I approached, she didn't seem very welcoming. I told her I wanted to order a breakfast burrito but wasn't sure what kind I wanted today. She told me the only options were bacon, egg, cheese and tater tots, or egg and cheese. I politely asked if I could add ham and sausage and pay extra, since that's what I had ordered before. She immediately responded that they "didn't have that type of breakfast burrito." That response confused me because I had literally ordered one there before. I wasn't going to argue, especially because her tone and attitude made me feel like I was bothering her just by asking questions. I then asked if the burrito could be cut in half and never really got a clear response. I also noticed the salsa station no longer had the little self-serve cups available, so I had to ask for those too. The same cashier asked how many I needed, and I said two. A few minutes later, another woman called my name and handed me the burrito. I sat down and realized it wasn't cut in half like I requested. At that point, I had to go back up and ask for a plastic knife and fork just to cut it myself. Which was not a problem or issue for me. I ate half of the burrito, but honestly, it wasn't nearly as good as the first one. The taste was underwhelming, and by the time I left I was just so disappointed. I ended up throwing the other half away after I left. Consistency matters, especially when the first experience set the bar high. The food was great the first time, but the service and quality were lacking the second time around. My honest opinion: if someone is having a bad day, they probably shouldn't be the first face customers interact with at the register. I may update this review depending on how management responds, because I know this place can do better based on my first visit.

Great local spot, that I want the world and yet no one to know about, all at once…read more I had a craving for fish tacos. Sir we ventured here. I have the El Pascado, TallGirl had the Adaboado and the Coco Loco. For good measure we also got chips and guacamole. They have stubborn cola, which is always a hit for me. My tacos were so yummy! I love how each taco had some fresh fruit on it. Each bite made my mouth happy!! The service was friendly, quick and personal. I felt like we were in a place where everyone knows your name. There is outdoor seating in the front and rear patio. And about 11 tables inside. This is on the list to come back to again and again!!

We ordered and paid for our food, then went to the restroom to wash our hands. To get there, you have to walk through the kitchen all the way to the back, and that's when everything changed for us. Back there, we saw large bins of food, what looked like beans sitting out, open containers of chips, and food exposed with doors open. It didn't look clean or properly handled at all. The bathroom itself also wasn't in great condition. On top of that, there were shared sauces on the tables in open containers with spoons sitting inside, which didn't feel sanitary. After seeing all of that, when we got our food, we honestly didn't even want to eat it. We ordered birria tacos, carne asada, and carnitas. My husband didn't finish his food, and I didn't let my daughter eat any of it. Unfortunately, after eating there, I ended up getting very sick and was dealing with what felt like food poisoning for about a week, which affected the rest of our trip. The only thing that tasted okay was the lime water. I don't understand how this place has such high ratings. Based on what we saw and experienced, I would not recommend it, and I think it should be looked into for basic health and safety standards. We would not return.
