What can be said about Kennedy's that hasn't already been said in other reviews? It's a well known fact- their meat is simply amazing. After seeing the drive through line stretching down the block and around the corner at TJ Tacos, my partner in crime and I remembered Kennedy's for takeout a few weeks back. I wasn't particularly hungry but I knew I would sample whatever he was going to get....and I knew exactly what he was going to get....his go-to, carne asada fries. Well, let me tell you...the meat was AMAZING. I didn't care about the rest of the dish, I just wanted to eat all the meat. It was a huge portion...plenty to share! Stopped by for some burritos and this place is AMAZING. I have eaten many burritos in San Diego and would call myself a picky meat eater but I have to say this experience was unforgettable. Their meat is high quality and absolutely delicious. Carne asada burrito was packed deliciously! Their nachos were great too (just wish there was a bit more toppings for the toppings to chip ratio) But overall sooo good! Their Carne Asada taco is among the best I've had, with high quality fairly tender beef that's been properly marinated and grilled. It's served on an especially tasty type of corn tortilla topped with the usual cilantro and onions (not enough, so ask for extra) along with a mild red salsa and guacamole. It's costly owing to the high quality beef at $6.99, but worth it IMO. I asked for chips and salsa, and was charged around $4.60 for a huge pile of chip and about 8 ounces of their mild red salsa. Maybe ask for just a small side of them. These people do a great job. Great quality meats, clean store, and nice people. The only negative for me is now the tipping screen has made it to when you're buying groceries....like I should tip 20% for that privilege. They do have eating in available, and I totally get the tipping prompt there. However to have it for grocery purchases too is a sign of a bigger problem in too many places of the tipping culture getting absolutely out of control. read more

The most tender carne asada tucked into a quaint market with high quality meats, dips and tortillas. The spacious parking lot led me into a brightly lit and colorful room where I ordered my food to my left, browsed tempting foods in the middle, and picked up my hefty bag on the right. Carne Asada Taco (4.5/5): the meat lived up to the praise. Soft and flavorful, the cut was thicker and juicier than the standard taco. Topped with pico and guacamole, it was incredibly balanced. Unfortunately they don't offer the complementary chips and queso anymore. The only deficit was that it was a bit small for $5+ and I would need at least four to be satisfied. Carne Asada Burrito (5/5): a hefty boy for $12. You can pick from black beans or refried beans and Spanish rice or poblano rice. They definitely don't hold back with the filling. Between the taco and burrito, I preferred the overall taste of the taco but the burrito was more filling and cost effective. Barbacoa Fries (4/5): a huge bargain with the Yelp check-in. Thicker cut fries topped with cheese, stringy meat, guacamole and pico. The toppings actually outshone the barbacoa itself. It was on the drier side so I recommend adding some sauce. Their salsa roja was more tomato forward and rather mild. The salsa verde was a bit spicier but primarily served as a sour element. The selves were stuffed with vibrant dips and sauces. Everything from the standard tapatio to flavored honey. They also change the specials daily so I would swing by to see what bargains they were selling occasionally. The staff were incredibly friendly and seemed proud of the quality they were serving. Like they should, 10/10 would recommend although it is more expensive than the average taco or burrito. read more

TLDR - The food was absolutely amazing and we stayed in budget. Can't ask for more than that. When my fiancé and I started to discuss catering for our wedding, he already knew what he wanted. He'd been going to Kennedy's since he was a kid and was delighted to find out that they catered. The owner was very friendly and responsive to our requests and their pricing was very affordable. Best of all, the food was amazing. A few of our guests were a little surprised that we put out a Mexican buffet at a wedding, but as soon as they tasted the food their doubts were put to rest. We got so many compliments on the food. Kennedy's offered a lot of different options, so everyone was able to assemble a plate they loved. They also brought tasty desserts, which was an extra special surprise. However, there was an almost disrespectful price hike, which caught me off guard. Extreme, extreme price hike which I hate to say just came across wrong. Hey, in this economy I get everything is expensive and Kennedy's deserves all their success. I feel alienated and cannot really send people here anymore. Not the first spot that I love to raise their prices, but it was such a stretch! No easing! At least not to my knowledge. . . Take that how you will but the pricing here is just astronomical now. Two words times two: Barbacoa Fries and Kennedy's Market. We were first introduced to Kennedy's Carne at the Dias de los Muertos event a few years ago with Yelp! This was an epic event in itself, but I remember KC being the best food item we tasted. I'm not sure why I forget about it as a place to eat, as I work nearby and it would be a breeze for an easy meal. And, a recent renovation has made it an even more desirable place to visit, with indoor seating. We stopped by with a mentee and took advantage of the Yelp check in offer of barbacoa fries for only $3.99, now $9.99 without a Yelp check in offer, so you may see and advantage of a Yelp check in upon arrival. I saw flanken ribs on display which are a personal and family favorite - I'm from Argentina - and asked the butcher if I could get some without the sweet chili Thai marinade they were in. He said yes, opened a new vacuum sealed packet, and cut six three rib just as I wanted. I cooked them in my Oklahoma Joe's bbq/smoker along with a pasture chicken with mesquite charcoal and they were out of this world! I also noticed that the shop has Picanha available. Great butcher shop, although not sure it's so much better than others in the area that the regular-price difference is justifiable, but the specials are absolutely lit. The different seasoning and marinade options are a differentiator for sure. Lots of sides and condiments and other good stuff off the butcher counter for sale. The prepared food is pretty good but pricey and flavor-wise I can't say it beats something that TJ or Frida would make you for a little less. What I love most about this place is that it's is spotless and smells like absolutely NOTHING. When you walk into a butcher shop and you can smell the meat, walk the heck right back out. I should also call out how much I love their commitment to community. Bomb.com food! Kennedy's had been an active and generous participant in Yelp events, and thanks to that I learned about them and one day finally I went there to check it out. The only regret was why hadn't I gone sooner... My husband and I went there for lunch one weekend at their new location. It was so modern and hip and honestly we were a bit skeptical because we aren't fans of hip restaurants. We still gave it a shot. At the front we saw a self-serve table with a pot of melted cheese with chips and salsa. Whaaatttt... of course we stopped and grabbed some before even making our way to the register. Oh geez their hot cheese was goooood, and their salsas were all amazzzing!!! We were so excited as we were walking to the register ready to order our food... Their carne asada was cooked perfectly, just as how I tasted at the Yelp events. The portion of their fries was huge and the basket was loaded with all sorts of yummy goodness. On top of all the delicious food, the staff were friendly and generous to offer us samples before we placed our order. The place also had a mini mart where you could buy some Mexican groceries. Came and checked out their new location, actually right next to the old location but more than twice the size. Beautiful new space, with everything you might need for Superbowl Sunday or any weekend BBQ get together. They have flavored meats for grilling, chips, salsa, guacamole. If you want to make you own they have onions, tomatoes, cilantro, avocados, even charcoal and drinks. I bought some adobada flap meat and mango habanero chicken thighs for grilling.. The both turned out very well. The steak was very tender. The chicken was not too spicy, the heat was subtle and kept slowly building after a eating more, but i wouldnt say it was hot, i think most people could handle it. (less heat than sriracha) They also have prepared food, Tacos, Burritos, Bowls, and Fries. Its a pretty neat concept you pick the fillings; Meat, beans, rice, salsa, ect. I really like the new space it has an open kitchen and is really a one stop shop for all your Mexican Fiesta BBQ weekend needs. read more

First things first, service and staff were all very friendly and helpful. Place was nice, clean and organized well. It was confusing at first on where you should order food from the grill, but found out you have to go to the cashier first to order. Ok on to the food. I love Carne Asada burritos and usually when I try a place for the first time I only get the carne asada and guacamole. This place had a carne asada burrito with carne asada, guacamole, pico, rice and beans for $10.99 (ten dollars and ninety nine cents just in case yelp tries to omit the amount). I never get burritos with pico rice and beans because usually those are fillers and never give the true satisfaction of the burrito and the contents of it. So I got a carne asada burrito with guacamole only. When I got the bag I realized it was super light, so I opened it up and looked at it. I was shocked at how small the burrito was. (See pics). For all you value seekers, this burrito doesn't justify the cost. Rice and beans to me are cents and really shouldn't be in a carne asada burrito, in my honest opinion. I give this burrito two stars because the meat is really good but is lacking substance. It was 60% tortilla, 25% meat and 15% guacamole. The tortilla is not your typical Mexican place tortilla. I've been too many throughout San Diego and it's definitely more gooeyer and not the flour tortilla I'm used to. The meat however is pretty bomb but I wish there was more of meat and guacamole. You guys be the judge of the the burrito by the pictures and you tell me how this could be a $10.99 (ten dollars ninety nine cents) burrito. A macho combo burrito from del Taco is bigger. So for those who are wanting to try someplace new, I was pretty disappointed so hopefully this will help you decide if you want to try this place. Most of the pictures on here are studio style pictures and not real pictures So hopefully these pictures help.
