Kenny's cafe is such a place. A quaint little haven nestled in Pacifica across the street from an elementary school and a post office. The kind of place you go to at least once a week because you know you can count on great food and personal service. The owners themselves come out and make sure you are taken care of and you can see families all around you enjoying the same experience. Kenny's offers traditional Chinese food at reasonable, fair, prices But also some American cuisine as well as a unique create your own dish option. We found this little gem when we were in Pacifica. Great customer service. We ordered right away and it didn't take long for our food to get to the table. I ordered sweet and sour chicken and it was the best I've ever had. Real chicken and not to greasy like other places. The prices were very affordable! Overall, one of the best experiences of all restaurants in Pacifica. When I first moved to Pacifica years back I'd always see this place as one of the top rated restaurants in Pacifica. I eventually tried it and have now eaten here (for pick-up mostly) probably 50+ times over the years. The menu in addition to Chinese food has traditional american dishes (burgers, steak, salads, etc.). However, I have only always ordered Chinese food, which is absolutely delicious. A traditional Chinese-American cafe. The daily specials are a good buy. While they have other regional styles on the menu, the basic cuisine is San Francisco\Cantonese. The reviews here are quite positive but the take-out here wasn't passable. Wonton soup was mush and disintegrated once we opened the container. We ate a bit of the other entrees and then tossed the rest as it was very bland and unappetizing. I never post anything other than positive reviews but the food wasn't worth the $50. read more

Been in Pacifica seven years and never reviewed Kenny's, for some reason, but today I went to just get some rice to add to a meal at home but then saw Sesame Chicken on their Specials board -- for some reason it just seemed particularly enticing today -- but asked if it could be made with chicken breast instead of the usual dark meat and they said, absolutely, although $1 more. Fine, no problem. Now I've had Kenny's several times and my "barometer" dish for Chinese places, chow mein, although better here than most* of Pacifica's other Chinese places, is still just "ok," and some other dishes are good, but not great, and some not so much at all. But the sesame chicken? I thought it was excellent. Big chunks of chicken breast, not rubbery like some places, nice, light coating on the pieces, not over-floured or over-fried like some other places, and a really flavorful sauce. Great job, guys. That being said -- and this is where the above asterisk on the word 'most' comes into play -- I'm sorry to say that with a certain "new kid" in town (I'll leave them nameless on this review out of courtesy, but it's obvious), overall Kenny's can't compete with them on chow mein, soups, kung pao and a few other dishes -- but Kenny's does have a fan in me at least for the sesame chicken. And almost forgot to mention: the main lady up front is THE NICEST person and extremely conscientious in her order-taking and service, and I truly appreciate that. It's because of her, as well as the sesame chicken, and very decent pricing, and, despite several dishes I don't like, that I feel they are deserving of four stars. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant in Pacifica in which I've visited numerous times. Their food is delicious with wonderful customer service. I usually get prawns and rice with some filet of sole, and I cannot complain. The atmosphere is very nice due to their cozy lighting and large windows that give you a nice view of the outdoors. My husband and I were looking for a quick place to eat so, obviously, we searched on Yelp for places near us! We are down the street at Pacifica Beach Hotel so we were able to walk to Kenny's Cafe. Now, I know what you're thinking... Chinese & American food.... together?!? Well, if you weren't thinking it, I was! Honestly, it's the best of both worlds. Occasionally I have noticed that serving too much of a variety causes the quality of one to suffer. That is not the case for the Chinese plates and according to my observations since I didn't get any American dishes (I'm a huge people watcher) people enjoyed those plates as well! We ordered Kung Pao with a variety of meat, Orange chicken, Wonton Soup, and pot stickers. The food was hot, largely portioned, and delicious! We were also happy to have a lot of left overs AND we didn't have to pack them to go ourselves. The decor is a little basic, but sweet. There were a lot of families who looked to be "regulars" which was encouraging. I would have to say that this was a good experience for me. As a Pacifica local, I rotate between the four places in town but Kenny's seems like home (Rays is a close second though). The chicken is such amazing quality. I haven't found an all time fav chicken dish but each time, regardless of sauce, the actual chicken quality surprises me. Besides that, the crab rangoon puffs are absolutely INSANE. I feel like standard Chinese fare serves the same crab puffs wherever you go, but these must be home made? They're incredible. There are things I like about Kenny's, and things I don't like. Order an American style dinner, for example, and the vegetables will kind of taste like maybe they came out of a can. I hate the egg rolls here, because they are these deep-fried monstrosities covered with gobs and gobs of batter. I can't really hold that against them, though, 'cause I guess that is a known type of egg roll, and some people want that kind. Just know that if you're expecting a normal egg roll, you'll probably be disappointed. On the plus side, eating their Chinese food does not make me sleepy afterwards, so if they're using MSG, it is probably very minimal. ;-) Also, the lemon prawns here are like crack. Do not try them unless you're prepared to develop a serious addiction to the gooey, sweet sauce they're glazed in. You've been warned. read more

Just ordered wonton noodle soup to go and I got "American" wonton noodle soup? It's soft ramen noodles with 3 wontons completely disintegrated (not even whole anymore) in a bland broth. One of the cheaper Chinese meals in general anywhere. At least in the dodgy San Leandro restaurants it is more authentic than here! I.e. Egg noodles and whole wontons. Kenny's Cafe is, will be, and always has been my all time favorite chinese restaurant. It's small, it's local, and it's awesome. The same 3 or 4 women waitresses have been there since I could remember. They are always friendly, always smiling, and always happy to see a returning customer. I try to order something different everytime I'm there, and am satisfied 110% of the time with my choice. Their prices are INSANELY reasonable! You'll kinda shit your pants in disbelief when you get a $35.00 bill with 2 other people you have to split it with and MORE THAN ENOUGH leftovers for lunch tomorrow! Kenny's is bomb-diggity. The best Chinese food in Pacifica. May is the owner and she is very nice, she cares about her customers and her community. The food is authentic Chinese style, and also the other food like hamburger, pork chop, lamp chop, and filet of sole is very good. Portions are large and price is cheap, great value. read more

I can't believe all the five star reviews I'm reading. Did we all go to the same place? If this is what you all consider to be good, I'd hate to go to a place you consider BAD! It wasn't terrible, but I don't plan to return. My wife and I had a family dinner. The won ton soup was... okay. Then the egg rolls came. What in the blue hell? DEEP-FRIED EGG ROLLS? What is this, the state fair? Not only were they deep-fried, but they were rather strange tasting. Eventually our main course came. Clearly this is a restaurant that makes up for lack of quality with QUANTITY. The fried rice was extremely greasy and was probably heated in a microwave. The chicken with cashews was kind of bland and didn't seem very fresh. My wife's garlic shrimp wasn't bad. The fortune cookies were stale. read more

We tried this on a whim staying in Pacifica one night...... oh my goodness!! Best decision we have ever made. The service was excellent. Friendly and quick. This food was absolutely fabulous. Like everything I ate was better than the last dish. We got the dinner combo for two so we got to try a lot of things. The GIANT egg rolls were so good. The beef in the Mongolian beef was unlike anything I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and flavorful and huge portions. They even gave a side of fried wontons for free. Was very disappointed ordering " take out food 30 minutes before closing on a week night! Upon opening my carton of chicken chowmein, broccoli beef and fried rice spending close to 40.00. The chow main appeared stale, old as if it was scraped from people's left overs, sMe with the broccoli beef .... broccoli was not fresh... very soggy and discolored and fried rice looked and tasted days old. Not one item appeared FRESHLY cooked. I guess that's common when you order late at night and take out food. No time to inspect the order once it's packaged up! Better always to dine in to ensure the food is cooked halfway decent with semi- fresh ingredients! Such a disappointment ! read more

UPDATE: OH MY GAAWD they have the BEST crab rangoons in the world. Only on their menu, they called it "crab and cheese stuffed fried wontons". Seriously though, they are the best I've ever had. They use real paper thin wonton wrapper instead of the thick doughy stuff, and are very generous with the tastier-than-usual filling. The end result is delicately crispy and infinitely delicious. BEST THING ON THEIR MENU. ____ Look, I'm Chinese. Kenny's Chinese food is of the American-Chinese variety. Still, there's enough of the Chinese flavor in there to sate my homesick cravings for my mom's cooking. Besides, the boy and I get take-out from here at least two or three times a week. They're cheap, homey, and have Chinese AND American food, so they satisfy whatever you're in the mood for. Best of all, they're faaaast. It's like instant food. You call in, drive down, and voila, a full home-cooked meal appears before your eyes. It's all strangely satisfying, and almost too convenient. PS. I have their phone number in my cell phone. This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant and I have been coming here since I was in grammar school!! There is a fish tank when you walk in, that I always see entertains the kids. There is always a daily special, but I am a creature of habit and order the typical chow mien, fried rice, tomato beef, or beef with broccoli. I also like the steamed vegetables with tofu. The restaurant also serves "American" food so there are options. My favorite part about the restaurant is the thank you letter from the grammar school posted on the wall thanking the restaurant for the tour. The employees are always very friendly and the food is always ready when they tell you it will be. read more
