My husband has been coming here since he was a kid and he has brought me here a few times and every single time she gets irritated as soon as you walk in; I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but it's literally EVERY TIME. I have a respect for Ken's Ice Cream Parlor that I have rarely felt for a restaurant, even small businesses. And I'm a huge supporter of small businesses. Ken's is owned by Wanda Johnson-Pope, and has been open in Carson for over 25 years. Aside from the great ice creams and treats they serve, they are very active in the community. They make a point to support businesses and non-profits in any way they can. They are not only about making a buck, as many businesses are these days. They are about economic development of the community. It is a great civil service to be available to businesses with the goal of supporting the community as a whole. And I love Wanda and her attitude. The first time I was there, I was visiting Wanda on a business matter. I made a comment about what a great job it must be to work in an ice cream shop because everyone is happy when they come in. She had a nice twist on my statement, saying, "Yes, and ice cream makes people happy. People who eat ice cream are happier." I replied, "I guess I should eat more ice cream," She said, "Yes, you should." She sent me home with a big sample that day. read more

Ice cream was yummy! They had a huge selection of sherbert and ice cream. I had chocolate brownie and cookie dough ice cream on a waffle cone. The server gave me huge scoops of ice cream--it was more like a three scoop cone instead of two. Some of the best and creamiest ice cream going! Mrs J has owned and operated this ice cream shop for forever and I love her as does the community. But let's not get it twisted, she has great ice cream. Ken's is not going to be the "gourmet" ice cream shop of the South Bay but if you are looking for good ol' fashioned flavors and creamy, decadent ice cream then Ken's is the place. Flavor selection is good and prices are actuually really good too because they give you generous servings. A scoop is not just a single scoop...trust me on this! This weekend, my wife, daughter and I wanted to grab an ice cream after a co-ed soccer game. Using Yelp, I searched for the closest location and found Ken's Ice Cream. What a pleasant surprise! We were personally greeted upon entry and the two people behind the counter were extremely friendly and helpful. The prices were reasonable and servings were extremely generous. I ordered a double scoop cone, my daughter ordered a root beer float and my wife ordered a vanilla shake. My daughter was offered additional root beer after she drank hers down and my wife was offered and given the "extra" portion of the shake. We will make it a point to stop by and grab a goodie the next time we are in the area. read more

This wasn't my favorite ice cream place but I assumed it would be one of those local, homemade ice cream shops. Instead it's just a store selling rite aid/thrifty ice cream. If I wanted thrifty ice cream I would have gone to rite aid. But two stars for customer service, they were incredibly friendly and helpful and made me feel very welcomed. Customer service is 5/5. Simple ice cream shop no bells and whistles or fancy named concoctions The ice cream is of the highest quality. Just the right temperature and consistency. I had the banana split in a cup with nice surprises as I made it through to the bottom of the cup. It was a lot, I had to save the rest for tomorrow, or later tonight. Fresh bananas, the right flavor. They let me pick my ice cream flavors and toppings. Very tasty. Good price for what you get. My brother had the caramel sundae. He was able to choose his own flavors, he loved it, he is a picky eater and has a lot to say about food, this time he ate it all before commenting on it, before we made it home. I've been looking for a place like this. All around my neighborhood they have these fancy shops, creamery this and that. Those places don't even offer the traditional offerings. We will be back. My girlfriend suggested we visited Ken's Ice cream Parlor since she's always wanted to go to an authentic ice cream parlor. After lunch we both went to Ken's for a banana split. Unfortunately, searching for the place was very confusing. The original address for this business was incorrect. I guess they moved. Their website also had their old address so I drove around Carson for a good 15 minutes searching for Ken's. I finally called the place and they gave me the correct address, which was at 18511 Avalon. When we finally got there, we were not impressed. First of all the place didn't even look like an ice cream parlor. It was more of an office with ice cream storage. Secondly, there weren't even tables for us to eat our banana split!!!! How can an eating establishment not have tables! Unbelievable. So we just ate in our car. The pricing is decent, but if you want ice cream just go somewhere else and save your time looking for this place, and save your money. read more

She's a sweet lady and but she will teach u manners if u chose to not use them. I went there as a child and now I bring my children. I have been here a few times now and feel some loyalty to this sweet parlor. I've enjoyed every conversation with each employee I've met, ranging from soccer to uber to politics to the nostalgia that ice cream brings. More than that, I've enjoyed the ice cream. My favorite is by far the chocolate malted crunch (huge chocolate lover) but also enjoy their rocky road, Maui wowie, birthday cake, cotton candy, and mint chocolate chip. I can't wait to try more! Amazing!! My grandpa loves black walnut but we've been unable to find it near us for years. For his birthday I took the drive to Ken's, 40 min away from me and I was WORTH IT. The people there were incredibly nice and kind. I bought a whole gallon of black walnut to surprise my grandpa and he almost cried. He absolutely loves the flavor. While waiting for my fish at family fish I normally will stop by here to pass the time. Service for a scoop of ice cream is larger than other places I have been to. Ice cream isnt bad either. I normally will get the strawberry cheesecake. Their ice cream reminds me of ones found in rite aid. Don't get me wrong I like rite aid ice cream. The staff and owner is very friendly.
