Located in a small neighborhood strip mall, Kenta is unopposing and quaint. Upon entering, I was greeted by a friendly owner with a big smile. I wanted to love this spot immediately. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and asked if it was possible to be ordered spicy- I noticed other types of ramen had spicy options. As soon as the ramen was put in front of me, I knew..... something was wrong. The smell was horrible. The taste was horrible. It was probably the worst ramen I've ever had in my life, and I've had some really bad bowls. The "spice" was stale shichimi shaken in, as you can see floating at the edge of the bowl in my photo.... and that was the flavor. So sorry to the sweet owners, but this was a one star.

Give this four stars for effort . The tonkatsu ramen was nice . Noodles were chewy and different . Friend ordered the chicken yakisoba ... tasty . The chicken kaarage was delicious at first and then I think I had a few pieces that were under cooked . When I showed it to the server , she said it was fine . Well I don't think under cooked chicken is fine . Parking was easy and service was otherwise ok .

The Food are good and delicious Service are nice people Cook is nice person I would come back. Again

The broth was not thick enough or spicy enough for my taste. The service is great and if you get the deal to add a side it's a lot of food

Kenta Ramen's located in an unsuspecting plaza at the edge of Foster City. Since it's in a plaza, parking is abundant and no need to pay for parking. Truthfully, my only goal for coming here for dinner was to try their black garlic miso ramen. I've seen the reviews raving it and I've been on a ramen hype later so really hoped it would satisfy the taste buds. On a weekday evening, my boyfriend and I were the only ones inside. We got seated promptly, viewed the menu via QR code, and then ordered. I opted for their ramen, my boyfriend got a sushi roll and a hand roll for himself. I think sushi was fine, but while the ramen had a ton of toppings included, the flavor was just lackluster for me. Service was prompt and helpful. Prices were reasonable. Next time I come here, I'd probably just stick with the sushi.

I've been to this spot a total of three times in the past six years. Menu is great and all food items are very delicious. The ramen and soup bases are very good. Yes, thick and full. Soup bases are super. I would say come here for very good ramen for sure. It beats most ramen places because the soup base ingredients and flavor combinations are perfect. Portions were very generous. No crowds at 5/6 PM Saturday. Accepts credit cards. Dark/dim lighting inside. Not a huge place. There's usually the lady who works all the tables. What's good? Tonkotsu Ramen, Black Garlic Ramen, Spicy Kenta Ramen (very good flavored cooked egg and pork meat), sunomono salad (cucumber seaweed vinaigrette lovers), chicken skewers, most sushi rolls, hamachi rolls, agedashi tofu, grilled squid (excellent), etc. There's not much I dislike here. Everything is very tasty and delicious. Wasabi and yellow ginger comes with all sushi orders. Water glasses are usually tall and full. Lady works very efficiently and has been here for years. The only reason they didn't get my 5-stars is because they do charge the mandatory 15% fee even for two people now. They didn't used to add this until pandemic times. In addition, you can choose to tip more or less. Overall, foods and service are still great. Plenty of free public parking in the lot. Definitely try going for the taste. Prices are similar at most ramen places these days.

Visited on a weekday night; easily got a seat inside. The waiter was taking a lot of calls in the front; I figured this place is doing mostly takeout now due to the pandemic, but it's still nice to sit for a bowl of hot ramen! I used to come to this place from time to time when I'm hanging out in Foster City with some friends. However, I haven't been back here since covid so I decided I stop by since it is so close to 99 Ranch in Foster City. I ordered mixed tempura, the Spicy Kenta Ramen, and my girlfriend got the Unagi Fried Rice. Tempura is fine, nothing special, nothing bad. Personally, I do like the ramen broth here. I find it thick and with good flavor. However, I'm not too big of a fan of the noodles and the meat was not cut as thinly as I would prefer. It was one big chunk of pork belly in my ramen bowl and I would have to use chopsticks to take it apart. There was a thinly slice char siu to go with the pork belly which is nice. The only nitpicky thing is that the 3 slices of tofu in my soup was cold, like straight from the fridge cold. I don't know if this is normal for tofu in ramen, but I don't know if it's supposed to be cold in a bowl of hot broth? Otherwise, the service is fine and the food filled my tummy. I would come back if I am in the area!

This was our first time dining in. We've had the Black Garlic Ramen delivered during the pandemic, and it was good. Dining-in, such a good experience! Greeted by friendly staff. Restaurant is clean and welcoming. QR code on the table for a menu. (I still get a kick out of doing that!) We opted for the Gyoza and Karaage for appetizers. Both were delicious. We both chose the Spicy Kenta Ramen, and added Chashu pork as extras. So freakin good! It wasnt overly spicy like a lot of other places - who just want to burn your tastebuds off. This was done delicately, yet intentionally. (And they gave us extra chili if we wanted more heat.) The stewed pork was fantastic, the Chashu was thin and tasty, the broth was flavorful, spicy, and full of black mushrooms, corn, seaweed, tofu slices, and a perfectly cooked egg. We will definitely be coming back. The staff was so kind and friendly.

Love getting food from kenta ramen! It's located in the food plaza that's close to the bay trail. They offer a variety of Japanese food and we've tried lots! Like the pumpkin okonomiyaki, tempura, yakisoba, vegetable ramen, some sushi rolls, various donburi, and curry! We've enjoyed all their food so far. In our most recent order we got a katsudon, vegetable yakisoba, dragon roll, with a side of curry! The katsudon is super yummy and flavorful! The pork cutlet, and, onions together have a sweet and savory flavor that is very satifsfying. I love the vegetable yakisoba as well especially when I'm looking for vegetarian dishes. The mushroom kind of acts like a "meat" and is very savory sweet. We get the side of curry because we like to dip our yakisoba noodles in them! They're good by themselves but even better in curry :D My bf enjoyed his dragon roll. I can't say much else bc I'm allergic lol. The service is always nice and friendly. Today I was struggling to use my StampMe app and the cashier lady was so patient with me and actually helped me get it to work! She's the best! Oh and tip: They are part of the StampMe program! This is one of our fav restaraurants that are part of the program. :)

If you're looking for a tasty and convenient ramen place, this is it! My first visit here was during shelter in place so I had to do takeout. I got the Tonkatsu ramen which I really enjoyed. The pork was tender and the egg was still slightly runny despite me having to drive home first to dig in. I had to stop myself from drinking all the yummy broth! The reason why I'm giving this 4 stars is simply because I've only had this one dish. I will definitely be back to try other dishes and will update my review then. They've blocked off the entrance into the restaurant so you can pick up your order and pay without having to step inside. All the employees were wearing masks and gloves. I felt super safe. There's plenty of parking which is great. Yes, there may be other ramen joints in nearby downtown San Mateo but sometimes I just don't want to have to deal with finding parking. Kenta Ramen is now one of my go-to for ramen!

Decided to have ramen for dinner and Yelp came through and found this restaurant a couple of miles from where we were staying. The reviews mentioned the Black Garlic Ramen which I ordered was was pleasantly surprised how flavorful it was. My wife had the Tempura Ramen and she enjoyed the broth and gave me half of her ramen. The only thing that she didn't like was that the tempura wasn't fully cooked.

I got a Gyoza, Chicken Karaage, and Tonkotsu Ramen for lunch. Gyoza was made perfectly, I love the thin skin and dipping sauce. Ramen was nice and light, filled with char siu, bamboo, and mushroom. It was pretty filling for me and I couldn't finish it. I love that the noodles were cooked to be nice form and chewy. The chicken karaage I likely won't order again. It's super tasty, but I would call it the healthy version. I did want a less healthy version with more batter. Service is great here, and fast. Easy peasy for everything. No complaints. Would love to try the sushi next.

Everything we ordered was absolutely scrumptious and worth the price. Our favorites were the Crunchy Lobster Roll, packed with lobster salad, salmon, avocado & cucumber, tobiko, and topped with crunchy flakes and house sauce (a fresh roll) and the Wagyu & Sea Roll, which combined shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado, and seared Kobe beef (a cooked roll)! Super rich and satisfying!! The Scallop Butter Yaki was also delicious, with very tender and naturally sweet scallops and seared mushrooms in house-made butter sauce. We also ordered Oyster Shooter, a good combination of oyster, ikura, quail egg, ponzu sauce, and sake. Shot was not too strong but very well combined! The highlight of our meal was definitely Beef Tongue Skewer (a daily special). We're very impressed, as the skewer was incredibly tender, fresh, and melted in our mouths. We paired everything with a Sho Chiku Bai Nigori sake, which is soooo warm and comforting, complemented our meal nicely. Service was very quick, and the staff was very attentive throughout our visit. Overall, a wonderful dining experience! This is my 2nd time here and and I'll definitely be back for more.

I will say that at peak hours with every table talking, it was really hard to hear what my friends were saying from across the table. Food was pricy, but good! We ordered: Omakase sashimi box - this was almost $70 and included two slices of multiple types of fish in a 3x3 square wood box. I feel like this was fine - nothing really stood out to me. Sunset roll - the cucumber wrap (seaweed substitute) really overpowered any fish that was in the middle. Chicken karaage - meaty, juicy! Order it! Ribeye bites with shaved daikon - this was fine, I wouldn't order again Bacon wrapped mochi skewer - good, but not worth the $4 (!!!) Pork belly skewer - fine, not worth the $ Tempura - good crisp and light Service was OK. It was difficult to get anyone's attention for the check even if the restaurant itself was pretty small. Overall, good time spent with friends, and my raw fish craving was satisfied.

The flights seem the most worth cost-wise but I would skip the garden flight next time. The place is small and not well temperature-controlled.
