    Duck pot pie
    Kelly F.

Highly recommend. The food and cocktails were amazing. I am eager to come back to try the rest of the menu. The empanadas were delicious. They could be a meal or shared appetizer. The poblano cream is very mild. I would have liked a little more heat, a little more of the pickled onions, and a little more brisket. I'd order this as an appetizer to share, so you can try more than one menu item (because everything is so good), but it's also filling enough as a meal. My husband got the duck pot pie and was only willing to share one bite. He was very happy with his choice. The duck was delicious. A friend enjoyed the Potato & Cheddar Soup with Fried Chicken. The crispiness of the fried chicken was a perfect contrast to the soup which is a delicious sauce to dip each bite of crispy chicken. The only feedback is to serve this with a spoon, so people can enjoy every bite of the soup. They have a great cocktail menu. Service was great. Our server was kind and attentive. We were seated near the door, so they turned on a small space heater to ensure we didn't get cold when the door opened.

My husband and I came for date night and had an overall great experience. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I appreciated that she gave her honest opinion (don't worry, it was still positive) when I was debating between two menu items. They also had just tapped their new draft cocktail, a French 75, which was delicious. For dinner I had the salmon and my husband had the pork shank. We also tried the oysters for an appetizer. I have always said I hate oysters until I tried these. Delicious! Both my husband and I agreed we would come back for exactly what we ordered again. There is a lot of hype with some other restaurants on Monroe Street, and from our perspective Kettle Black is underrated. Forget the trendy influencer restaurants in that neck of the woods and check out Kettle Black. You'll be glad you did!

I stopped by for a quick lunch on a weekday. The place was not too busy. I got a seat right away. I went for a croque madame. It was a good cheesy dish with a poached egg. On that day I got metered parking right in front of the restaurant as well.

Cute dinner spot! My husband and I came here before a performance at the Overture. We made a reservation and were sat right as we walked in. It was a Sunday so we had free parking right on Monroe street in front of the restaurant. I can recommend checking out Kettle Black. Yum.

The entrance from inside. Cute, right?!

Stopped by on a whim and had an absolutely delicious meal! I know Kettle Black Kitchen specializes in chicken, and even has some weekday specials that are amazing according to my eavesdropping on other guests, but I had their salmon dish and it was fabulous! Served on a generous bed of braised veggies in the most delicious citrus sauce the salmon was cooked to perfection with a deliciously crisp skin. I ate every single bit! The kind wait staff gave a great balance between space and attentiveness. With dietary restriction the kitchen staff was also very flexible and made the meal wonderful still. Finally, really diverse and nice French music was playing giving the whole place a nice bistro type ambiance. It's not a budget place, but for a nice date I'd definitely recommend. Next time I'll check out the drinks. I believe they also have a Happy Hour!

10 oz Prime Flat Iron Steak was perfection. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Cute and clean dinning room. Amazingly thoughtful Chef made desserts. The Carrot Cake, phenomenal. Great job guys! Eat Local! 10/10 would recommend!

So glad we found this place! Pork shank was great, love the carrot purée. Chicken was really good too! Very nice seating area and service was great.

It is not. It is rock candy flavored with agave. It was sweeter than my wife's rail Margarita on the rocks with salt. Their French onion soup is arguably the worst I've ever had. Flavorless. Slightly warmer than room temperature and the cheese was barely melted yet alone browned. Their appetizer of pork belly Fundido was the best option of the evening. Flavorful delicious and filling it was fantastic. However, the $40 pork chop entrée was unpalatable. Describe as a pork chop topped with a strawberry barbecue sauce. The sauce had no strawberry flavor. The pork chop can hardly be described as a grilled pork chop and is better described as a salt brine soaked Virginia ham warmed topped with watered down sweet baby rays barbecue sauce. Honestly. You could take this cut of meat, put it in a wooden box in the woods and use it as a salt lick stand during deer season. It was disgusting as much as it was dehydrating. The accompanying mac and cheese was basically Kraft dinner topped with panko. The highlight was the summer squash and that's saying a lot as it was nothing special and for crying out loud-it's squash. My wife and I could not stomach finishing more than half the entree between us and left. I repeat. The servers at the bar were great. But nearly everything brought in front of us disappointed.

The area is very moody lighting and even has small lamps on each table. Our server and staff were great and everything came out timely. We got an old fashioned and a sangria. The sangria is strong but you won't know it until you stand up. We started with the cheese puppies and they had a fantastic pull to them. Some of the best version of cheese curds I've had in a while. My husband and I both had salads and the bowl was too small for the salad but it was a decent salad I do wish the cheese was sprinkled on top as it ended up going to the bottom of the bowl. For an entree I had steak frites. Fries were solid and the cooking of the steak was good with the charcoal but it didn't have much flavor. The chard on the side was also good considering I've never had it. For dessert we had the valentine special chocolate cake and again it was good but nothing super special. We didn't stick around the bar too long but enough to get a winning pull tab. I would come back for the bar tenders they seemed chill.

We made a 12:00 PM reservation, which was definitely necessary because the place was full. Right off the bat, our server asked if anyone had food allergies or dietary restrictions. When I mentioned I have celiac disease, he confidently assured me they could absolutely accommodate it, which immediately gave me peace of mind. I ordered a strawberry spritz and we shared the gluten-free donuts to start. A huge win for the celiac community is that they have a dedicated fryer, so we also safely shared the truffle fries. For our main entrees, I had the fried rice which was excellent. My husband ordered the skirt steak hash with gluten-free toast and loved it, though it is worth noting for others that it packs quite a lot of spice. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive regarding the allergy protocols. The overall service ran a little slow, but it was understandable given how slammed they were for the Sunday rush. As an added bonus, the restaurant has its own parking lot, making the logistics seamless. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this spot, especially fellow celiacs looking for a safe and delicious meal!

Since it was nice outside we opted to eat on the small patio which was nice. Our server was was very good and kept things moving. It was happy hour so we ordered two of their spritzes which were $6 each - they were both good (strawberry/ limoncello). Appetizers were supposedly $10 each during happy hour - we got the tempura veggies which were very good. We also got the chicken wings which we later found out when we got the bill that they were not considered to be an appetizer covered by the happy hour pricing (they should make this clearer on the menu.) The wings themselves were good but six wings for $18 was a ripoff. I get it that inflation is high but that is ridiculous... My wife got the fried chicken sandwich which was very dry. This was the same result last time we were here - I guess we should have read our review and avoided it. Overall it was just an OK experience - disappointing.

They come with ranch and hot honey, and apparently they recently won best cheese curd at the cheese curd crawl. They were super tasty. Well seasoned, perfectly fried, and kind of chewy. I am not on the hot honey frenzy train, but I tried it and thought it paired well, just wasn't for me. The ranch was tasty though. Even the happy hour portion was hefty and I couldn't put down half. A little wine and cheese on a beautiful day, just makes for a good experience. We enjoyed our drinks, a non-alcoholic drink, and a wine spritzer. Illustrious descriptions and they lived up to their descriptions. The first dish we were served was mushrooms à la grecque that was served cold and it was tasteless, and frankly didn't match any descriptions in the menu. The next dish was a Basque Terrine. The flavor of the pork terrine was rich with a little bite of chili. Unfortunately, it was too dry. This terrine was served with delicious fig jam and stone ground mustard that was a lovely garnish on the terrine. It was served with a baguette, which was toasted unevenly, including one burnt slice. How this made it on to the plate coming from a bakery is a puzzle to me. There was also an unnecessary addition of cornichons and carrots with a tart, bitter vinegary taste. Despite my criticisms of this dish, it was my favorite overall. Next we were served a bistro steak with a green herbal sauce that was truly delicious. We also ordered Halibut which was described as being served with a Comté-Walnut crust. We didn't taste any of these additions and the fish itself wasn't fresh. It had a fishy smell and we only took 2 or 3 bites and put it aside. We ordered 2 side dishes. One was red and golden beets that didn't match the descriptions in the menu although it looked beautiful. There were no flavors of honeyed lemon or balsamic glaze. We also ordered duck fat potatoes that were way too salty and overcooked. As an end to very nice service, we finished up with delicious orange sherbet and even more delicious pistachio lemon cookies. On paper, the menu had us primed for a fantastic meal but the details were lacking and we were truly disappointed.
