My husband and I were visiting the Keys and wanted to buy some local honey. We saw a sign advertising honey at Keys Meads in Key Largo. To our surprise, when we walked in, it was more of a mead tasting bar--and, by the way, they also sell honey. It just so happens that my husband and I love tastings, and mead was new to us. Casaundra took us on a mead journey through the entire menu, from dry to sweet to distilled spirits and even a coffee blend! It costs around $21 to try the entire menu, totally worth it! I was enjoying a weekend in the Keys with my wife and a sign caught my eye in Key Largo: local honey! We both love getting some of that sweet authentic goodness, and we had the time to we veered over here while on the way to Hobo's cafe. I'm so glad we checked it out. I came for honey, what I got was a viking bar stacked with mead! This place is awesome. Very laid back mead tasting bar. I got to sample the whole menu for around $21-22. There's dry, sweet, coffee, and a number of harder spirits too, all made from honey! They make it in house and are a huge, successful distributor. Casaundra took us on an excellent mead adventure. We stopped here when our plans changed and I am SO glad we did. We got there just after they opened (don't judge, we were on vacation) and were greeted by one of the owners. We decided to go with the 10 for $10 tasting and it was a great way to try a lot of different types of mead. It only comes out to a few ounces of mead in the end, so you don't have to worry about being smashed by the end. Having one of the owners serving us was great as we got a lot of backstory to go along with everything that we tried. It was such a nice and relaxing experience. This might be the healthiest consumable alcohol! ahaaaha... Here, I learned that mead is the oldest form of drinking alcohol. Made from bees honey, this was the "elixir" of the late Vikings. I had such a fun educational time having tastes of honey and mead. The hosts were some of the nicest ever during my visit to the Florida Keys. Honey from spring summer or fall all taste different. My favorite is their spring harvest. Thanks to bees, we'd never get to have this organic beneficial product. Bees really do work hard, with a short lifespan and an enormous amount of hardwork! It takes tons of them just to make about an inch sized vial. Besides mead and honey, they have a small high quality selection of luxurious bath products like salt or sugar scrubs and soap. This place can be found in Key Largo. Anyway, a perfect place after brunch, for a leisurely time and meeting pleasant acquaintances. Stop by!!! read more

We had the flight of four meads after never trying mead before and the experience was very easy for beginners. The black cherry mead was my favorite (sweetest out of the four), and the mango was my boyfriend's favorite (he prefers bitter things). We also bought two of the hand crafted candles. I've passed by this place a dozen times and I finally had a chance to come in and see what it was about. My daughters and I came inside and spent a couple of hours hanging out. We were given an in depth course on the process of making and enjoying mead while we tasted a very reasonably priced flight of ten different meads. ( Our choices). Everything we tried was amazing but of course, there we some we loved more than others. We wound up buying a few bottles and I might swing by and grab another on my next trip through. While the products they sell are epic, it's absolutely nothing compared to the ambiance and service we received. We were welcomed into this establishment like we were eagerly expected friends. We got to enjoy our tasting while talking to two of the bartenders and the owner. We had a blast hanging out with them and we look forward to coming back again with more time. I dint even know what mead were until the amazing ladies who took care of us and even the owner explained to us all about it. They are an alcoholic beverage created by fermenting honey with water, sometimes with various fruits, spices, and grains. We got a mead tasting and tried 8 different ones that we LOVED!!! Then we even had the spirit ones and we got to try 2 more. The services was amazing, the vibe great, and the store super nice. The prices are reasonable. Wonderful place, best deal you can get in the Keys. I didn't know much about mead but the 10 for $10 flights is an awesome way to get my feel for mead preferences. I noticed that my initial review was largely based on the meadery's old location, so it is time for an update. Unaware visitors (and probably even some locals) still probably won't associate Key Largo as the first place that pops into their heads when they think of mead, but I've come to. Key Largo and mead, it's a thing, get used to it. First, I will say that there was nothing wrong with the old Keys' Meads location. Plenty of breweries, distilleries, and meaderies in the United States have launched their businesses in seedy strip malls and ugly warehouse districts. It's almost a time-honored tradition at this point, especially in Florida. The thing was, you really had to know about the place and seek it out, otherwise there was no way you'd have ever stopped at the unassuming little office building that housed the tasting room. The vast majority of people would drive by that building without even noticing its existence, let alone the fact that there was a meadery in it. Now? It is hard to miss! Anyone driving northbound on US 1 in Key Largo will see "Keys' Meads Local Honey" painted on the side of the building. There is an attractive, welcoming storefront. Undoubtedly, just by being more noticeable, well located, and aesthetically pleasing, the place is enticing more curious locals and tourists to come in and see what it is all about. Stop in and try some mead! They are all good, but I'm partial to the Jamaican Cherry. read more

Keys' Meads adds a unique beverage option to the Upper Keys, truly standing out beyond the typical south Florida brewery. You really can't get any more local than these folks who keep, grow, and harvest all honey and fruits for their meads on the islands. We thoroughly enjoyed the novel tasting experience, which included upwards of 20 meads (dry, semi-sweet, and sweet - some both hot and cold) for $16. Our favorites were the blueberry (hot and cold) and any of the local beer barrel aged meads. As frequent Florida Keys Brewing patrons, it was awesome to see they were partnering locally to reuse their beer barrels, and it was a fun exercise to taste hints of our favorite beers in the barrel aged meads. We loved learning more about the fermentation process and seeing all of the fun products sold in shop (beeswax wraps and candles, honey, soaps and scrubs, etc.). Our only hesitation was that while we felt relatively save COVID-wise upon entry, as more patrons arrived, our discomfort definitely went up. Given folks can't really wear masks while tasting, we would have felt much better had social distancing been better enforced, rather than everyone being seated next to each other around the bar. That said, we look forward to visiting again in post-COVID times! read more

After finding one distillery we like in the keys I decided to see if there were any others and this place came up. It was something we never heard of before but after reading about it decided to give it a try. The place doesn't really stand out but if you use navigation or keep an eye out you will find it. We walked in to the bar and got the $5 tasting. The guy was very informative and friendly. Gave us a full description of what mead is and a description of every sample. The meads were good some were excellent. I left with several bottles to take home to Texas. Definitely worth the trip to check it out read more

We stopped here for the first time about a year ago, prior to he hurricane, and the mead was amazing. The man knows his stuff, and was able to educate us on the history of meads.
