Can't say enough good things about this business. Been going here for over 10 years and will keep coming back. Family owned business and the owner-mechanic Deckard sets a high bar for quality of work and ethics. When dealers on Stevens Creek have issues with cars, new or used, they come here. That says a lot. The ability to troubleshoot the most difficult-mysterious issues is truly a high level skill and this garage can do it. Ethics wise, can't say enough. Only shop that will only do work that is required and needed and not "pad" the bill with items not needed. For example, if your air cleaner is still clean, they will tell you and not change it. Recently bought a set of aftermarket brake rotors-pads for our Toyota and brought them here to install with my regular service. Dropped at 9, ready by 1pm, and for waaaaayyyy less than the dealership. Absolutely trash. Never go there, do not recommend going there. First off, the place is filthy with birds, dog and the old lady at the desk is rude, arrogant and pretty much useless. Secondly, they will not clearly say diagnosis fee. they made it bold faced min 85$ but they charged $225 for diagnosis and hopping 850$ to fix. I took elsewhere and got done in 125$. They misguide you with the possible cost and surcharge. Lastly, they dont take check, only deal with cash. could be because of skipping tax, dont know.. but if you pay by card, its 6% more.. ridiculous. anyways, I'm not going there anymore and anyone ask my advise, I will ask to leave them alone ! dont go. read more

Had an oil leak issue identified by Wheel Works, and they pointed me to the dealer to fix it. Brought it to the dealer, and they told me the only way they could fix it was to replace the entire engine. Thought it was a hopeless issue because neither the dealer or Wheel Works could fix it until I brought it to Keystone. Keystone provided a detailed diagnostic and description of the issue and was able to resolve it. read more

I was looking for a diesel mechanic to repair a oil leak on my old 99 ford e-450 rv conversion w/ 7.3 power stroke motor .They came highly recommended by trustworthy automotive friends and my local ford mechanic. Leak was diagnosed quickly and the repair was done in timely manner. I was impressed with the service end to end. Updates via email, video of the issue and text messages. I've never written a google review, but this place really deserves it. My friends use this place as the go to for car checkup before sales. The employees are unusually kind and willing to help out or have an extensive conversation about a prospective buy, or a car problem. This week I was doing routine car maintenance and screwed an important part up. I knew that Keystone was a good shop and still open, so I called them and described my parts and how I got to the screw up on the phone. They ordered the replacement part, and drove to their vendor to get it on the spot. We had the part picked up in 35 minutes and the whole car change fixed by the end of the hour. read more

I will never ever ever take my car here again. If I could give negative stars I would. I took my classic car in for a smoke and rattle issue and at first they were very responsive. Calls were returned promptly and information was forthcoming. This lasted about a week. I authorized initial installation of a new carburetor and one other fix. After that everything went downhill and customer service became non-existant. They are a small shop and I have another car to drive so I didn't worry at first but after a few weeks went by I started calling. Every single time I called I was told that the owner was not available to speak to me and could he call me back. Over and over and over. I had to be a complete pest in order to get a response. It still took weeks of repeated calls. When I finally did talk to Deckard briefly I was told they were "still trying to find the issue" ... This went on forever. I would call... they would take a message. I would call again... they would take a message... and I would be avoided unless I was a pest, only to be told "we're still trying to pinpoint it.. could be this.. could be that.. don't know...need to check one more thing" I would ask when I could expect a call back after they checked "one more thing", be told a date... that date would come and go... and the whole bullshit circle would start again. In the end, they tried talking me into buying an entirely new motor for my car. This was six months after I dropped it off in the first place. Six months. At that point I was completely fed up and I called and told them I didn't care that the issue was not fixed. I just wanted my car back. I told them I would be there to pick it up in two days, on Saturday at 2pm. They said that was fine and I was told that they would have it washed and ready for me. Great. When my boyfriend and I arrived my car was sitting under a tree in the lot *covered in a thick layer of dirt, leaves, twigs and bird shit*. Not only that, the cover to my air cleaner was sitting on the passenger seat. I was livid. I just wanted my car as far away from these people as possible. I can't even believe I paid them but I did... and I was told to go outside and someone would pull the car out for me. Since it was stuck behind other vehicles. We waited several minutes and that never happened. Finally I walked over to the assistant, whose name I cannot remember, and he was very apologetic and helpful. No one even told him we were waiting. He put the air cleaner cover on for me and actually got out a garden hose and shop towels to try to get some of the dirt off for me. That one star is for him. Funny how the owners were nowhere in sight. After they moved it to a spot where I could I get in to drive the car away I could see that there were thick imprints in the dirt from my tires, telling me that the car had not been moved in who knows how long. Since then as long as I drive the car regularly there is no more issue. Thank god I didn't agree to a whole new engine for what turned out to be nothing imperative. Never again. Never. Worst experience I've ever had. I'm angry again just thinking about the whole thing. read more

It had been quite a while ... a couple of years, I think ... since I had taken my car into Keystone Auto Service. The fact that it had been that long should already tell you about the superior quality of work I'd received back then. Well, after a couple years of not having to worry about my 2001 BMW 330ci, it had finally begun to make strange ghostly noises when the engine was cold and the performance had diminished somewhat. I should've been more regular with my checkups, to be sure! But I finally took it in and was very happy to see Deckard & Kim still there with a LOT of cars in the shop area (this is always a good sign, just like going to a restaurant with a crowd in front). And, though it took a couple weeks (but who cares about that when you have Lyft, Uber, Instacart, and Doordash today, right?), I can unequivocally say ... MY CAR NOW PERFORMS BETTER THAN I COULD EVER IMAGINE. I mean, I was amazed at how great they did a couple years ago. But this time, the car drives like it just came off the assembly line in Regensburg, Germany! My initial intent was to replace a failed torque converter, but I was so glad I asked them to do a comprehensive inspection and repair. They found several other hidden (yet important) anomalies which I'm sure other shops would've missed. One thing you can be sure of: Keystone will NOT recommend work on your car beyond only those components which need replacing. My proof is in driving my car today compared to when I brought it in. The throaty growl is back and better than ever! The acceleration is now so fast & smooth, I didn't realize I hit freeway speed in half the time I normally would. Amazing, amazing, amazing! BMW needs to give Keystone Auto Service a Lifetime Achievement Award. And if they don't, I WILL! :-D read more

This is an awesome mechanics shop! Deckard and Kim have owned it for thirty years. Deckard does a lot of the car repairs and Kim runs the office. In my experiences with Deckard over the last nine years, I have found him to always be very honest, knowledgeable and efficient. He not only has state of the art equipment to work on newer model cars he also works on classic cars! He's always busy so if you're classic car is down, schedule an appointment. He's always honest regarding the time frame it will take! Major repairs are never cheap, however Keystone Auto Service rates are reasonable the bay area. His other mechanics are the also some of the best around. They are always pleasant and very helpful. I love the way any one of the mechanics in the shop can explain the car issue and the repairs which need to be done or have been done. As a female classic car owner, I find this shop attribute to be golden in value! So, ladies (and gentlemen) whether it's just an oil change or a major engine problem Keystone Auto Service is the place to go! I guarantee you won't be disappointed! I barged in to Keystone on a random afternoon to have my front license plate installed on my car. My car is from out-of-state where front-license plates aren't a thing, and so my car did not even have a bracket. I purchased the front license plate bracket and came to Keystone. Even though they were busy, they said they can get it done in 30 minutes. I really liked speaking with Kim, who made me feel welcome. She charged me $45 for the installation, which seemed reasonable since I came in without any appointment. I definitely plan to go back. Edit: Taking off two stars from my rating since I later found that they drilled an extra hole on my bumper which was hidden by the license plate. I understand making a mistake, but not telling the customer is just dishonest. read more

Long long time customer. Started going there when my eldest son was working at a nearby auto dealership and he told me that when the local dealership mechanics couldn't figure out what was wrong, they would take it over to Keystone. This is a tight knit family business who will treat you like family. There have been times we've brought in one of our family cars (3 sons, so 5 cars) and they discovered it was a only a minor fix and they refused to charge me. One of my adult sons now lives in SF and still brings his car down to Keystone for service. I was motovated to kick my 2 cents in when I read a 1 star review which claimed a litany of complaints, but included some obvious lies like that they don't take checks and imposing a 6% cc surcharge (it's 3% which is what the cc companies charge businesses). So if they are lying about that, everything they claim is highly suspect! read more

These guys are phenomenal. I have taken my Toyota FJ and BMW there multiple times amongst plenty other family vehicles. Every time we've left a happy customer. Just recently I had a major coolant leak in my BMW. Kyle went above and beyond - diagnosing the vehicle, reaching out to the dealer for warranty status and insisting on driving the car as it wasn't safe for us. Although the dealer insisted we drove the car over Kyle topped us off to ensure a safe trip. Very knowledgeable and excellent customer service. HIGHLY recommend. read more

we having been bringing cars to Decker for years. He is really good with cars that have electrical problems that no one else can figure out. Two different Jaguars were brought to him with no start issues and he got them both running in one day. He can be a little pricey but it is always worth it. I agree with the other reviews. I found Keystone on Yelp. I had a car shipped cross country and it had an issue with a noise which I suspected was something with the transmission. I dropped it off at Keystone Auto on Saturday morning, and they found the issue and fixed it in the same day, for much less than I had expected it to cost. It is a bit easy to miss the first time, as it's in the corner and there's another auto shop next door, and there's no huge banner outside, so check out the Yelp photos and map it before you go. Great service from a family-owned business. I will definitely be bringing my car here again for troubleshooting. read more

We saw the good reviews and decided to take our Jeep Grand Cherokee here. The parking lot is insanely packed! I don't understand how they get the cars in and out of there it's so busy. Our brakes were grinding - our a/c only worked on high - there were some leaks and our car was making this odd noise when pushing the gas petal and wasn't accelerating as well as it used to. My boyfriend went inside and told them everything that was going on and they said they would fix it that day - and give us a call in 2 hours with a diagnosis. After a few hours my boyfriend called them to see what was going on - they gave us the diagnosis and the cost of $1100+ to fix everything. But it wouldn't be completed in one day and we could pick it up Monday (dropped it off Friday). We picked it up Monday late afternoon and everything was working fine. No grinding with the brakes, our a/c and heater finally worked, and we were actually accelerating easily. It's been a few weeks and I've noticed after driving awhile (more then an hour) our car still does that odd thing when pressing the gas. It just doesn't seem to GO. It almost feels like the petal resists. I don't know but that is still not fixed. Overall a good experience. We've had HORRIBLE experiences in the past with the dealership - Stevens Creek Chrysler Jeep Dodge and another small place called Diagnostics Unlimited so we were very hesitant with taking our car to another auto place. read more

Probably the most honest auto shop in San Jose. My mechanic, whom I call Chu Tai (out of respect) has proven again and again that he will not rip me for a buck. I bring in my BMW 330ci whenever I need an oil change, a new tire, mechanical work, anything and everything. He will try to get me the best price for his services and the services of the shops around Keystone, and he'd never round up on anything. A cent is a cent, and he will price it to a tee. A perfect example: I broke my sunroof cover, my front right rim was dented, and that caused my caliper to break as well as my tire to wear down prematurely. Additionally, my front arm bushing was loose/broken (I know, problems...but I'm still a huge bmw fan). Chu Tai broke it down for me. I could have spent over $2000 at once, but he prioritized my needs and never pushed me to do more than necessary because he knew I was then a college student. He got me the best deal to undent my rim ($150 instead of $300 if you were to go out to a private shop w.o. the mechanic's discount), a impreza tire, also for mechanic's price, and fixed my caliper by salvaging another off a bmw that was only a few months old before it got into an accident that totaled it. PERFECT! A few months later, he fixed my arm bushing, and now my car is perfect. I'm about to bring it to him for an oil change, maybe some filter changes, and a check up. Although I know every time I go to the mechanic, there will be a new diagnosis, I'm also very sure that Chu Tai won't try to persuade me into anything I can't afford,and will try his best to keep my car in perfect condition. read more

I would have given them negative stars if I could have. I have a BMW 530i and took it to Keystone for repairs for coolant leak, oil leak and cup holder replacement. After giving me an estimate for the work that needs to be done and the price for the same they actually jacked up the price at the time of pickup, did half of the work and asked me come over the weekend for the other half. Deckkard gave me an estimate before starting the work and I gave a go ahead the office manager Kim jacked up the price without any reason. I have evidence corroborating my side. I am still contemplating taking this to the BBB for an investigation. This is not the first time they have charged me high price. Another time they did the same thing i.e., they reset the engine oil change flag in the iDrive and charged me $20 per signal that they reset. It escaped my initial attention as it had been put under miscellaneous. They will try to swindle money from you whenever they can. Also, after my last visit I have been noticing that there are many other fault signals showing up on my iDrive than when I had initially taken it to them (related to Alternator, etc) which were absolutely not there before I took the car to them. Please do not take your car to these people. Take your car to people who have honesty, integrity and credibility. read more

I took my 2002 Range Rover over here from the advise of Land Rover of San Jose (thanks), on a smog related issue. I had my RR in another shop (not LR of San Jose) for over a month and $1300 worth of replacement parts and still did not pass smog. Keystone were very busy over the Xmas Holiday, and told me about the waiting list. So I bought my car back at a later date. Deckard was very helpful and replaced the only part need to passed smog. No more engine light on (3 months now). Recommended some repairs I need in the future, but not now (honest opinion). His wife (Kim knows a lot about car and friendly), recommended that I needed a larger battery (got the smaller one from Costco), so I did and no more dead battery issue. These guys are located very close to my home, so after reading the positive reviews here on Yelp, I took my truck there a few times. I have to agree that they seem honest. Their service is very good, and generally prompt, although sometimes they call later than they said they would. I get the impression that they're very busy and since they're a relatively small outfit, they can't always meet a callback time. I guess being too busy can sometimes be a negative. Kim always explains what they're looking at, and what / why they're going to do or not do a repair. Sometimes, it seems like too much detail (is that really a problem though?) for a guy like me who knows a little about cars, but not a lot. I've dealt with many auto repair shops over the years, and so often I get the feeling that their main goal is to get as much money from me as possible. That's not the case here. More than once, they've told me that I don't need to have something done that I was considering having done. How often does that happen at an auto repair shop? I recommend giving them a try. read more

Keystone auto has fix both of my Box Trucks. One had a problem that could not be explained by many mechanics, but Keystone pinpointed the problem and fixed it at a great price. The second truck, I had a braking issue which I tried having fixed a year ago. That mechanic had me change out my entire brake system. The problem came up again recently and I brought it to Decker and his crew. They fixed it at $250! These guys are great and im very thankful of their professionalism and honesty. I bring my little Ford 4-banger here for everything from oil changes to diagnostic work; basically everything and anything my car ever needs is handled by Denholm and the folks here at Keystone Auto. Their parking lot is always TOTALLY full and their garage is ALWAYS busy, despite being fully staffed with several mechanics and I credit this to the fact that they do such fantastic work in record time. Somehow they are able to get my car in and out in usually no more than a day (most times its done the same day I drop it off)! They are always very friendly (especially Kim in the front office) and most importantly, HONEST. They never have tried to gouge me or rake me over the coals to make an extra dollar. I know it can be hard to find a good auto shop that you can trust. I was very surprised to see nobody had written a review yet of Keystone Auto being that they're perpetually deluged with business. Getting your car serviced is never a comforting feeling. But Deckard and his crew at Keystone made a fantastic experience. My Boxster had to get the clutch replaced but when I took it to a specialty Porsche shop all they wanted to do was upsell upsell and upsell. When I requested to have a second opinion, they refused to offer their services and so I came here to Keystone Auto. Right from the get go Deckard, the owner, was extremely friendly, honest, and gave no pressure. He accurately diagnosed the job and found one other small issue to be fixed. I tried to be nice about it and keep my cool, but this shop is still haunting me. First, I bring my car in mid-December thinking they were going to take care of me. 2 weeks pass, I decide to call them. The owner Deckard whom I dealt with is on vacation! My car is just sitting there with nothing even being done to it. The reason why I waited so long to call is because I thought I was getting a good deal. Then they call me and double the estimate (from approx $500 to $950) saying the guy messed up on the estimate. NOT MY FAULT! They could have just took it as a loss, and satisfy the customer. Th owner's wife kept saying while laughing why didn't I call sooner, which irritated me even more. (Professionals aren't suppose to talk like that!) Another thing to add to this F'd up situation! Ok, give me my car back, no I get this run around saying they took the Cat Convt off already. Ok Put it back on! No, they said they threw it in dumpster and the garbage was picked up! Shops DO NOT throw Cat Converters away, they Recycle them for hundreds of dollars!! They already made money off me recycling it. Then they call me back trying to negotiate, by that time I just wanted my car back! I go and pick it up sounding loud,because there's no cat converter connected (and I don't even get an apology) how freakin rude! Boom..I go down the street and get the part replaced for $350 even/same day done! Anyways to make a VERY long story short, I take the car in to check the alignment and my new "honest mechanic" said it's weird how there were missing bolts on my front & rear mounts! Smells like SABOTAGE!! Very unsafe to drive! I could have gotten into an accident or worse hurt myself or others! Yeah Keystone Automotive was so pissed off at me, I know they would do something like SABOTAGE my car!
