Just wanted to give an update. Some shops are good for several years, then something changes and they go downhill (see my previous review). I'm very happy to say that Akin's is still great! I had the same car in yesterday as in my earlier review, and Akin got me scheduled easily and quickly, despite his shop being very busy right now. He and his crew communicated clearly with me, so I knew what the expect the entire time. And the price was very reasonable. Had to pay a visit to get my son's car fixed. We showed up early to drop off and we got the quote and left the car for several repairs. Within an hour Akin called to tell me that several of the jobs I wanted done were not necessary. He's a great mechanic and doesn't over charge. Came in 5pm Thursday bc my car's check engine light turned on and this was the only place nearby that didn't close at 5pm. I didn't have an appointment. I didn't call ahead. I'm a new customer. Aydin was so helpful. He at first said he wasn't able to fix my car until Tuesday (Memorial Day weekend) -- totally understandable. Then he had someone check my car to see if it's safe to drive. Told me he can actually get it fixed quickly the next day and it'll be ready in the afternoon. I informed him I have an appt at 1pm and he so quickly accommodated me and said it'll be ready in the morning. Fast forward to the next morning (Friday), I get a call 10am that my car will be ready in half an hr. Picked up my car and spoke with Akin. Quick and painless transaction. Friendly staff. I brought my car here to get new brake pads/rotors and was very happy with the service and experience! After having my car looked at by another mechanic shop and being quoted over $1300 for 4 new brake pads and rotors, I did some research and called around for quotes. I came across Akin's Auto and after looking at their website, I decided to give them a call. The man I spoke with, I believe he was the owner, not only gave me a quote over the phone but also said I could come in that very next day to get it done! The quote was significantly lower than what I was quoted by the previous shop. I dropped my car off that next morning and picked it up a few hours later. I'm here at Akin's to get 75k service for my Toyota. The service has always been great, the owner, Akin is excellent at communications and never tries to upsell you, he is just honest and straight to the point. With that said, I want to talk about him as an individual. After he finished checking me in, I saw him grab a broom and dustpan and walk in front of his shop - I thought he was going to sweep his carport entry, but instead he walked into the middle of the opposite side traffic lane and sweep up broken glass and other trash that inconsiderate people left. He then walked to the intersection and continued picking up trash. The owner is out there with a broom sweeping up glass and trash to make the area nicer for his customers and neighbors. Akin Auto Repair is truly exceptional when it comes to service, clarity, honesty, and pricing. Their shop is huge, clean, and very well maintained. They replaced the rack and pinion on my 2008 Lexus RX 350, and the difference is night and day -- my steering wheel is finally light and smooth again. Before coming here, I felt stuck. Another mechanic had replaced my rack and pinion 1.5 years ago, and from day one the steering became heavy. They told me it was "normal" and would get lighter over time, which never happened. Once the one‑year warranty expired, the steering started making noise at low speeds. When I brought it back, they admitted the rack and pinion seemed to have issues but refused to offer any discount or support. I called several shops for help, and Akin stood out immediately -- highly recommended by many people and offering better pricing than the others. Akin's gets five stars from me because he's the no bullshit kind of mechanic you want working on your car. I found the other four and five star reviews to be very accurate: Akin will charge you an absolutely fair price to fix your vehicle and he will do it faster than any other mechanic in the area. He was somehow able to overnight an OEM part from GM for me and he had it installed the next morning. My car wasn't even there 24 hours. One of his advertised services is diagnosing and fixing air conditioning systems and that is what he did for me. He was open and honest with me from the start, admitting when he didn't know what the problem was and letting me know what he would do to diagnose it before he did it. When he discovered the problem, he called me to ask if I wanted to fix it now or later and he did not pressure me AT ALL to fix it right away. In fact, he said he understood if I needed to wait a month for my next paycheck or something before fixing it. This was my first time at Akin's and, as a woman, I was looking for a place that wouldn't try to screw me over. When I went in the waiting room, there was another woman there who immediately started singing Akin's praises to me, saying I made a great choice in coming here, and I won't regret it because he's the best in the area. I'm happy to report that she was right! Another thing I like about Akin's is that Akin himself is working on your car and guiding his tech's through everything. He knows his name is on the sign and that he's ultimately responsible for the service his company provides. His garage is also immaculately clean. I will be coming here from now on for my oil changes and everything else. I want to quickly address with some of the negative comment say on here: Akin is a straight shooter, which means he tells you like it is with some colorful language (which I also like to use so I appreciate that) and he doesn't take crap from anyone. That often rubs people the wrong way and I can understand why he's not everybody's cup of tea. Just got back to Akin's again, where I would bring my cars nowhere else but here. They have been taking care of my Hondas ever since they were operating out of the old facility ever since 15-20 yrs back. The primary reasons this time were oil change and check engine light, since I need to have my car smogged. They quickly ran diagnostics to pinpoint the issues. Turned out, my front brakes were also gone, so the discs and pads were also replaced at the same appointment. The repair processes were smooth and swift, and they communicated progress along the way. These guys, Akin and Ayden, will never oversell or take advantage of you. They will inform you of the findings, provide options and suggestions, then it is up to you to decide. Day 1 I had a quick oil change and day 2 they repaired my brakes. 76 station told me 3 months ago that in a few months it would need to be done so without me telling this auto repair they said it was time. His staff is courteous, patient and very on top of their game of oil changes and repairs. The shop is clean, the waiting area is clean and I spoke to some existing customers waiting for their repairs that they drive from Sunnyvale and Milpitas just to come to San Jose to see them. Came for an oil change but I don't think I'd come back. It was $90 for oil blend including the labor. The owner or manager was raving about he doesn't scam customers and everyone who works there is highly qualified to do oil changes but it was over price. He also said my car doesn't need full synthetic oil but everywhere I've been before, I've been given full synthetic. They do check other parts of the car and pump air in the tires but they forgot one screw on one of my tires. read more

Surprising large and clean shop. Owner is a nice guy, kinda high strung and you can tell right away he's in charge. He's very honest and transparent, a real straight shooter. Prices are very reasonable and the quality of work outstanding. I came in for an all around brake and rotor replacement for my Audi. He was able to fit me in same day which was nice. Waiting room is nice, air conditioned, high speed internet and a TV (playing Alien when I was there). He chose very good parts for my Audi (Textar pads and Zimmerman rotors). Excellent work! on 10/24/2025 my friend took a day off from work to accompany me to the repair shop, since the shop is closed on weekends. We went there hoping to speak with the person in charge, Akin, to clarify what had happened during a previous repair. However, upon arrival, I felt that Akin had no real intention of resolving the issue. I mentioned the Vietnamese technician who had worked on my car and asked Akin to communicate with him to understand the situation. I later learned that the technician's name is Danny. Instead of addressing the issue, Akin turned the conversation toward "racial discrimination," which was completely irrelevant and distracted from the real safety concern. During our visit, Akin behaved in a very rude and unprofessional manner, refusing to let us speak. He simply said that my tires were new and that being over-inflated by 10 psi would not cause any problems or blowouts. However, he could not explain why the correct tire pressure should have been 38 psi, yet the technician had inflated them to 47 psi. A professional technician like Danny should never have performed such an obviously unsafe act, and it is difficult to understand why Akin would consider this acceptable. I did not request any compensation; I only wanted the shop to take this matter seriously and prevent similar incidents from happening to other customers. Akin also claimed he wanted to "understand my car's performance" and repeatedly started the engine to "test" the vehicle. My friend, fearing that he might damage my older car, quickly stopped him. Just had my first repair/inspection at Akin's auto shop and had the best auto service experience in my life. Akin and Ayden are hands-down the most professional, passionate, and kind mechanics I have met. After a recent battery replacement, my car still died unexpectedly. I took my car to the Pep Boys first and their diagnosis is that my alternator has failed and quote more than $800 for the repair. No way I'm paying that much. I called Akins, and he immediately suspected that my alternator is fine as Pep Boys are notoriously incompetent and habitually defraud their customers. Akin and Ayden showed me that my alternator works fine. I just need to drive more. They didn't even charge me anything for the inspection! Akin and his staff are straight up all-stars in my book. No-nonsense, tells it like it is, and honest- probably the most important quality you can find in a mechanic! I had bought a used 2016 Mazda for my son, its engine overheated going over the Sunol Grade on 680. Was able to get it in to Akin's, and as soon as they raised the car on the lift, they could see the water pump hose was shredded due to a bad installation from the previous owner. Akin gave me an incredibly fair price for fixing the issue and went beyond the call of duty by showing my son some tips on what to watch for to maintain the car and how to keep it running at its best. Im never taking my car to another auto shop ever again. As long as I still live in the bay, Akin's Auto Repair will have my business. My 2018 GLC300 is due for Services A and C, and the dealership quoted me like $2800????!!!!! WHAT? Do you think I am Jeff Bezos? Anyways, took my car to Akins, him and his team took care of it in about an hour for $145! Quick and efficient, super professional. They have a waiting room with free wifi, and I was able to get some work done there while I waited. If you are looking for no bullshit good mechanic, GO TO AKIN's. Also, these stealerships need to stop with the crazy quotes. PS: The negative comments are making me giggle a bit. While I agree that Akin may have a strong attitude, but from our short conversation during checkout, I can tell that he is also a great, kind, and authentic man. I mean the thousand of reviews speak for itself but I have to give Akin and his entire staff so much credit for being not only efficient at their job, but for being great people. I first came in a few months back due to the air conditioner in my husband's Kia not working (blowing out hot). Akin saw there was a leak in the hose, but after changing it, it was still blowing hot. He is always honest and showed me the hose he changed and where there was a hole for the leak. He found out it was a compressor issue and I just gotta say this man is a saint. Not only did he give me an incredible price (he got the original part and + labor costed less than other mechanics who were offering me off market part), he went out of his way to get the work done even though that's not something he does in his shop. I went on vacation while he did the work and when I came back one of his staff remembered me because I had dropped the car off and had my luggage (which I picked the car up with as well) and was so friendly. I am truly so appreciative of everything Akin did to help me - he really didn't have to and I will always come back to his shop after the incredible, honest, efficient service. Not only that, last month I called to ask for a quote for my car (Mitsubishi), and he let me know he didn't work on them but referred me to another mechanic who did. I didn't get the work done but Akin or his staff (couldn't read the name tag) asked about what I needed and I briefed him and he had advised that his shop didn't have the equipment to service my vehicle but was kind enough to refer me to another shop. They have great attitude and professionalism. Will come back in the future when I do need service. They easily could've turned me away since I wasn't going to bring them any dollars. They do have a parking lot but it appears to be big enough for one car so enter and exit with caution. read more
