I really really hate to do this because this is just one of the of places you want to like. They are really nice. I have sat in the waiting room and listened to the owner's wife give really good advice to people on the phone. They are really responsive and work late. But... Someone is not competent. My car over heated and I sent it to them. They put in a new radiator. I was so pleased that I had them fix my clutch a week later. Then It started over heating again. I brought it back and they fixed a crack at the end of a hose for free. A few days later it started overheating again and ever since I had the clutch work done it was very difficult to shift into reverse. So I took it to the dealership. They said "oh my god where did you get this work done?". They recommended a new clutch, They said the cooling system had air in it which should have been bled off. There was also a part that was the wrong part. Anyway I take what the dealership says with a grain of salt but keystone had two shots at fixing a overheating problem and they blew it. This is not a hard problem. Clearly someone at keystone is doing very sloppy work. I recommend skipping them, which is really too bad. read more

There is no gauging, inflated prices, bait and switch, selling unnecessary repairs. Deckard is an exceptional mechanic. More impressive , he and his wife are exceptional people. He is helpful in every way. A true testament to his abilities is his reputation. Dealers on Stevens Creek Row routinely use his services. These are dealers with their own garage. These dealers include domestic vehicles to high priced European cars (Porsche, Audi, Mercedes). I have asked service writers on The Row. I usually do repair work on my Ford myself, but once in a while I need a garage with the right equipment and trained mechanics. After trying a few garages in the area, I went to this one for a tranny flush and brake flush. I was first quoted $90 for the brakes and $260 for the transmission, but Deckard marked both down so I paid $310 total (compared to another place that quoted me $300). I also needed the work done before 12 noon the next day (I dropped my car off at closing time), which they beat by half an hour despite a full garage. The service was fast, people working there are friendly, prices were average, and Deckard is a rare honest mechanic.. I'm sticking to this place from now on. read more

I took my car to Keystone after jiffy lube told me all these things that were wrong with my car. When I went to Jiffy Lube I only went for a quick and easy oil change, (so I thought) only because it was close to my house and I was heading out to town. Keystone was honest and told me it was fine. Nothing was wrong with the breaks, the air filter, nothing that Jiffie Lube told me needed right away. They wanted to charge me much more money I did not have at the time. Thank God I didn't have it or I may have spent it. I really think Keystone, family owned Kim and Dekard are extremely honest and great to work with. I went to three different smog places for my porsche cayman before coming here. the first three, no one wanted to touch my car because they were too scared of breaking something. my engine is in the middle of the car so it does take a little bit of extra work to get to it. i called stevens creek porsche and they told me that they use keystone auto about 2 blocks away. so i went directly to them and they were able to do it in less than 30 min. i'll be going there for my regular maintenance as well. read more

UPDATE JAN 2018. Deckard just solved a problem on an older car that three other shops closer to home could not figure out. No diagnostic codes but the engine misfired during acceleration. Turned out a prior tech had installed the timing belt pulley incorrectly and the ignition timing was way too advanced. The computer assumes that the initial timing is set up correctly so no codes were generated. It looks easy in hindsight but it baffled me and three other techs. Yet another example of Deckard Pham's deep thinking solving a tough problem that others couldn't. Did you know that major new car dealer service centers send Deckard the really tough cases they cant solve? It's true. I am pretty good at amateur level diagnosis and repair but Deckard is major league. He'd have made an excellent police detective. BTW, with his vast knowledge about all things internal combustion, Deckard's daily driver is an electric car. read more

My sister took her Mazda MPV to Deckard and the crew at Keystone Auto for a check engine light problem that has plagued her for the last year or so. Being mechanically challenged, my sister asked me to speak to Deckard and make sure this guy was on the up and up. What I can say is Deckard is the most honest mechanic I have ever had to deal with. He was right on with his diagnosis and even found another code the past mechanics had missed. This shop delivers! Quality repairs, done when promised and communication the whole way through. The MPV passed the emissions and the cost to repair was a fraction of the Gold Shield shop she originally took it to. I only wish Deckard had a shop in Orange County! My wife and I have had very good experiences with Keystone Auto Service. Their rates are competitive and they are also very good about solving just about any problem that we've had. We first found out about them when moving from Minnesota to San Jose and we needed a smog test. Some of our family is in the automotive parts business and we went to their dealership to ask for a recommendation on where to bring our cars. They recommended that we go to Keystone as that is who services their vehicles when it is too expensive for them to do them in their own shop. We had our smog tests and were both in and out in a couple of hours. That is extremely surprising since they have a packed parking lot. Since that experience my car started to make some crazy noise and I had figured it might be the gasket or a piston based on my own research. Over the phone they had diagnosed it as an exhaust leak; after they had put it up and checked it out they were able to locate the issue as an exhaust leak due to a bad down pipe. After that they had also recommended that I might be able to get it welded and suggested a shop near by. Unfortunately that shop was unable to get back to me and so I had them order the part. They are extremely fair with all of their pricing, labor and they will not B.S. you around like most auto service shops. We will be continuing to take our vehicles here in the future. read more

My car was taken to this shop knowing the diagnosis might take some time and be a bit expensive but still less than $200, but that this was a guru that would definitely find and fix the problem. Going in knowing that, this still ended up far worse and more expensive than I thought it would be. In short they had my car for over a month testing and removing proven upgraded parts saying they were unreliable and probably the problem even though it ran fine for months after they were installed. Then supposedly disassembling several different things that had been recently replaced to 'make sure it was done right'. It was, and they all proved to not be the problem. Turns out the timing belt was off one tooth which was found when they finally decided to take it for a testdrive with the computer plugged in. Seems like that should have been step 1. After nearly $500 spent for diagnostic work, four times what I was told, they finally gave me an estimate for another $1100 to adjust the timing. And by the way my car is in pieces in the shop just waiting for the go ahead. frustrated I tell them to just finish it and it took another two weeks just 'wrapping a couple things up'. It took days if not a week to get any kind of response from the shop, it seems very much like my Audi was bottom of the barrel on their list and obviously had rookies working on the car. Car went in without any leaks but running rough came back with the wiring a mess, hanging over exhaust and loose over the fans instead on back in the proper clips, two new leaks and still running rough. If I trusted them at all I would take it back and argue to fix it but I don't want their hands on a car my son rides in, so I'm taking it to another shop and will never be back. Nor will anyone I talk to. Listen to the other bad reviews on the time it takes to finish any job, The owner told me multiple times he 'just keeps getting more cars and hes so busy, sorry that's the business'. That's fine, I get it if your good your busy, but if you manage poorly then you seem very busy. Finish the cars you already have first, or at least inform the customer that it will take two weeks instead of saying its two days then not responding for a week until I had to come down in person. read more

I've come here a couple of times and each time it's worked out well. What I like about this place is you can call and they will take you in where others either never call back or say that you have to wait. I had a battery that needed installing and the dealer basically said they were too busy so I bought the battery there and brought it to Keystone and they installed it while I was waiting. Then I needed a 30,000 mile service and the dealer gave me a glossy expo of what they would do changing everything out for a bid sum of money only to go to Keystone and get the gist that they only replace what needs replacing. It turned out that everything in my car was not needing replacement so it only cost 1/3 what the dealer was going to charge me. They also took me in on the same day and did the work in a couple of hours. So overall I'm glad I found this place and plan to do more business with them because they seem to only do work that is needed and they are reasonable on what they do end up doing. read more

DON'T take your car here. Had water pump changed a year ago at Keystone. They only added water to the radiator, no coolant. There is rust everywhere in the cooling system. My mother has had similarexperiences with having to take her car back several times due to belts not being tightened and things being missed. read more

DO NOT USE THIS AUTO SHOP!!!... unless you have at least a week to leave your car at their shop. Basically, they are overly busy and do not communicate well with clients to let them know what is going on. I was recommended to the shop by a friend who does not use the shop, just heard that they could service my type of car and that the owner is very knowledgable. I brought my car in (for the first time) when it was acting up and 4 days later called to find out what was going on. Decker (the owner) said they drove it twice but could not find the problem. Fine! I can understand that. But how did it take 4 days for them to tell me that? Also, as soon as I drove my car on the freeway, it started acting up again. I had it towed back to the shop (now for the second time). On day 3 of the second visit, I called Decker (the owner) again to find out what was going on (just wanted an estimate) and he told me they had driven the car, seen the problem, but had not had the chance to diagnose exactly what they needed to do. He sounded annoyed that I was calling so soon and told me "he would call me" when they had an estimate. I figured I would just let them do their thing. I am a very patient person, but by the end of the week I called again. After all, I don't have a second car so I was borrowing cars from people to get to work, etc. During this second call, Decker told me they would call by the end of the day to let me know the estimate to fix the car (i.e. they had not began working on my car at all). I received NO calls from them that day and it was the end of the week so I was going to have to go all weekend without a car. Consequently, I decided it was time to move my car to another shop. I had my car towed Monday morning. REDICULOUS!!!! Communication is everything in the world of service and this place sucks! In the end, my car was fixed within 3 hours by another shop. I can't believe I wasted so much time leaving my car at Keystone. Don't do it!!!! read more

I understand few people had a good review after the vehicle got fixed. what im upset about . is they price them selves the same as BIG dealers. but the work sucks, and when the check engine comes back, the owners statement is well I have to fix the obvious first and then I chase the rest till its fixed. I don't get it!! I had one code why do I have to replace couple of things and then find out you are not as competent as you speak .. than comes that you pay $700 in repairs for the same think to break down again, and when I took it back. they said it just broke.. And the Asian Gal says ""TAKE ELSWHERE IF YOU LIKE OR LEAVE"" I guess Im no good when I want this so called warranty to be worked on .. What a joke. im sure they have some things they can work on, but not Bmw's.. they take $$$$ guess work out of your pocket.. So to the Gal In the front.. I wish there was some way to give a minus 5 starts on yelp. This place sucks big time. Went here based on a recommendation and it was a big disappointment and a waste of time and money. Kept my car for 2 days said they would call me back in a few hours to give me an estimate after the inspection and they never called. So after a day i called them back and left a message. I never heard back from them. I called again after a day and no one picked up again. Finally after getting frustrated i personally went down there and picked up my car. They were quoting $582 for a transmission fluid flush on my SLK which i could get done at an authorized Mercedes dealer for $450. These people have some nerve ripping off their clients. Why the hell would one want to come to this place when they are more expensive than a dealer and suck at customer satisfaction. I'd urge people to stay away from this place. I was a totally disappointed with this experience as i had check out their reviews on yelp before going to them. Guess all those 4 star reviews must be a hoax. read more

These guys are great! Not only have they done a great job at a reasonable price on all car repairs that both I and my fiance have had, but they have found other problems and explained the level of severity and whether it's necessary to do them. This last visit when my car was overheating and I brought it in without an appointment so they were rather busy. I told them I wasn't in a rush and they could hang on to the car for a few days. The next afternoon they called me and told me about the problem and that they cut the diagnostic fee in half because they found the problem so fast (Thermostat) and they found a number of other problems with the car but didn't push me into getting the repairs done, saying that most of them could wait and one I should just do before I get new tires (not for another 20K miles or so). They also gave me really good advice on some body damage I had from some hit and run while my car was parked. Overall, I can't stress enough that all the guys at Keystone Auto Service are fantastic! read more

My wife and I both drive cars that have a lot of miles and our cars often require repair and we always go to Keystone for not only repair but also maintenance service. The owners, Dackard and Kim are honest people and their technicians are much better than the franchise dealerships! I have noticed that many of Keystone customers are auto dealers on Stevens Creek and they trust Keystone more than the dealerships! Dackard is a smart engineer that loves cars and is excellent at what he does and also does his best to save you repair expenses. Just got my car serviced by Keystone. First time using them. I was not disappointed. Had my rotors resurfaced and my transmission oil flushed. Everyone was professional and friendly, so service was good. Pricing was reasonable and competetive. I liked the detailed break-down on the receipt, which included the number of quarts it took to flush my transmission. The final pricing actually came out a little less than the initial estimate, which I thought was reasonable in the first place. Nice work. read more

I have been going to Keystone Auto Service for at least 5 years now and I have always been happy with the service. Deckard is extremely helpful, honest and trustworthy. He provided advice on my current cars, like which repairs are absolutely necessary and which repairs could wait. He clearly explains the issues in manner anyone can understand. He has even provided some helpful insight into a new minivan I am looking to buy which will probably save me some money down the line. Who better to ask than someone who ends up fixing the problems later? When I had the clutch replaced on my 2000 BMW 323ci, I did some price comparisons and Keystone was less expensive. I also checked a few different places when I had the brakes replaced and again Keystone won. Communication and efficiency are also great at Keystone. They are quick to diagnose the problem(s) and let me know how much it's going to cost and when it's going to be ready. I recently had some repairs done on my 1999 GMC Yukon. They found some minor things that needed to be fixed as they were doing the planned repairs and just did them without charging me extra labor. Maybe there was no actual extra labor since they were already under the hood, but knowing that they fixed things that needed to be fixed is comforting. They could have just let it go and then I would have had to deal with it later. I highly recommend Keystone Auto Service! read more
