I told the staff I ordered four buckets of chicken, she checked the order and said the order just arrived to the system 20 minutes ago, order "like this big" requires 24 hours in advance ???.... I've eaten here a bunch of times, but this was my FIRST time eating here since the remodel. The seating area is much more stylish, clean, and comfortable that it was before. It reminds me of a diner, but I don't know why KFC should fit in that category? Oh well... it's cute. The food is terribly oily, but weirdly comforting from time to time. I like their original recipe, I like their mac and cheese (even though it's the most artificial mac and cheese I have ever tasted in my life), and their biscuits are decent (but NOT as good as Popeye's). Their biscuits aren't very consistent though; sometimes they can be rock-hard and dry. Wilmar D. often orders the hot wings and those are pretty good (but a little too hot for my taste). I also have tasted that chocolate cake that they sell by the registers... it's pretty good, but you should just get a cake at vons or something, it's not worth the price you pay and it's tiny. Their service is very erratic here... usually it goes really slow, but my most recent visit involved me ordering, and 2 seconds later getting my food (?!?!?!). This has NEVER happened to me before, so I thought it was pretty cool. I personally am not bothered by the thought of not knowing how long the food has been sitting out, but if you are bothered by that, maybe you shouldn't eat here.... now I'm getting slightly bothered... The drive-thru is extremely slow, the workers have no manners, and the food tastes like it's old. This location has consistently been the worst KFC I've ever been to. ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. They asked me to pull around out front because part of my order wasn't ready so I waited in my car for about 20 minutes before going in to inquire about my order and they COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT IT. When I lived back in the UK KFC was a staple to our diet at least once a week. However, I have noticed that they are few and far between in San Diego, and well, that is to be expected when there is a million and one (slightly less but not by much) places to go and eat, many of which are better than KFC. However, when you have been eating something on a regularish basis and then you dont have it, well, you miss it and crave it. Could possibly be a slight bit of homesickness too? Anyway, we were en route to a party (which was catered, but we were unsure what time it would be served) and were popping into a store right by here (to be reviewed shortly) so of course given that it was the first one we had actually been right by we had to stop in. For me, part of the experience of KFC is the smell. I was a vegetarian for a year many years ago... yet the smell of KFC I always loved. In fact KFC was what I had the day I stopped being a vegetarian!!! We walked in. So many more options than at home... grilled chicken, extra crispy or the regular. Hubby and I shared a two piece meal, it hit the right spot, the service was good and the place was clean. It helped feed the craving and we havent craved it since. Ordered to-go, manager working at the drive thru messed up our order TWICE. Not even payjng any attention to customers orders ensuring it is correct. Manager acted as if he was right but was having a full on conversation with his workers while taking customers orders. I was actually on my way to the Burger King next door, when a sign struck the corner of my eye and lured me in. $3.99 combo for two pieces of their NEW KFC GRILLED chicken + 2 sides ($4.99 if you want the drink)!! You get the choice of either a Breast or Wing and a leg or thigh. Naturally, to get my money's worth I went for the Breast and Thigh for just for sheer quantity. Big fan of their mash potatoes and gravy and mac & cheese ....potatoes were good, mac & cheese ehhh.. my roomate made better with his kraft mac & cheese packs. Really gone down hill the past few months.... I mean this location had it's problems before with missing items constantly in my order over the last three years. It is was near our home so I would frequent this Mira Mesa KFC location out of convenience.... ,but NO MORE! On my last two trips (tonight and once last week) when we ordered an 8 piece and 12 piece bucket of fried chicken respectively we received mostly the cheaper dark meat with only one breast and sometimes no wings at all in the whole bucket. Instead we get a bunch of chicken thighs. Anything to save a buck I guess. I thought it would be an honest mistake at first, but twice in a row indicates a trend here.... KFC is not my go to fried chicken place but it gets the job done. The last time I was at this location I was sorely disappointed because, well they were out of chicken. Yeah. It's as crazy as it sounds. But when the late night chicken craving calls the colonel answers (as long as its before 10pm). Well this time, they delivered so I'll let bygones be bygones. I got the famous bowl which has been deemed the sadness bowl by some but I don't find that to be true. Sure its pretty much just a hodgepodge of fried chicken with KFC's corn and mashed potato sides but it's convenient and gives you a taste in a portion controlled way. $5.00 fill ups are back! Make sure you check your order while you are paying. Walking in for utensils when you order Mac and cheese is a big no no in my book. I understand chains like KFC must be thrifty with their condiments, napkins and utensils but it should be a given than one shall have a fork inside the bag once you open the bag. Had to drive back for an freaking fork. Not too busy considering the amount of business in the plaza. I have a similar complaint as most of the other reviews. Drive thru service was horrible. The lady with the strong accent was not very helpful and was not necessarily rude, but did not possess any good customer service skills. Like saying hello? Or thank you? I know, kinda odd to expect that these days. The Chicken was very dry and hard. Had to let it rest in the gravy to moisten it up a bit. I asked if their iced tea was fresh brewed and she said yes, but ended up with tea from a machine. Trust me, we all know the difference. This is clearly not a KFC issue, the owner of that location is. Oh, one last thing, i tried to call to speak with a manager to at least have them educate the staff that tea from a machine should be considered "fresh brewed", but the phone rang with no answer and i tried that three times. read more

Don't ask me why I even decided to eat lunch here in the first place. I was in a hurry and saw the big KFC sign and decided I would eat a fast lunch. I walk inside and the place is completely dead. Being 12:30 in the afternoon I found this strange, maybe everyone else in the area already knew what I was about to find out for myself. I ordered your basic two piece meal with mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The chicken looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for four hours while the mashed potatoes were luke warm and the coleslaw smelled funny. The only reason I go here is because it's close to my work and if I don't feel like driving farther to Popeyes I'll go here. This was my second time at this KFC. This is a good location. Better than Encinitas because Encinitas KFC doesn't participate in a lot of the KFC promos. I went into The Encinitas location for the $20 family fill up and they told me they never heard of that promo. But Mira Mesa KFC seems to participate in all the KFC promos and aren't greedy. They also pick up the phone when you call them and take the time to answer your question in a nice, caring manor. This seems to be the best KFC I've gone to because of their customer service and promo participation. read more
