Interesting...I've never written a review...however being a franchise I guess there isn't much to say about Kung fu Tea things have been pretty consistent. What can I say..I pretty much frequent this location being that it's the closest one. Put it this way...this is the new hipster college hangout if you don't have time to wait don't bother unless your stopping by during some random hour which is a Sunday night or some random other night during the week. If it's Friday or Saturday Night expect the line to be to the door and backwards. It literally will wrap around the store. Anyway....enough about the ridiculous lines. They have a extensive menu with any and every combination of bubble tea,coffee,tea juice,slush. Minus the option of flavored jelly other then herbal and Nata but with all the flavors of tea and slush why do you need flavored jelly? That's just being greedy. My go to is always the peach oolong with bubbles but recently I tried the yogurt grapefruit with bubbles it taste like that frozen yogurt dessert you find in the Korean market. Um..can I say it's oober delicious love it! I've also tried just the grapefruit tea at a location in Houston,TX another refreshing option so put it this way. There is real juice in there stuff. Basically gist order off the menu tell the cashier your order she types it it prints on a sticker it goes on a cup and then it's made its like an Asian Starbucks lol. Either way Kungfutea is my current go to for flavored tea and bubbles. It will probably be until he DMV decides to add another Asian staple. So yes if you want decent bubble tea. Sorry to disagree, but I felt this was all hype. The drinks I've had here have been so/so at best. The bubbles are good, but the actually drinks aren't that great. To top it off, there is almost always a wait. You really can go to almost anywhere in the DMZ area for decent bubble tea. This particular branch was annoying because the staff always was so confused. I've always been a HUGE fan of Kung Fu Tea and I cannot be happier we finally have one in nova! I've loved Kung Fu Tea since I first tried it in NYC. Hands down, one of my favorite bubble tea places on the east coast and this location is living up to the Kung Fu Tea name! This location has VERY friendly staff. This place accepts both cash and credit card. Upon entering the store, they have a huge board that shows you what drink options they have available. Like most bubble tea establishments, the toppings (such as bubbles, jelly, etc) will cost an additional free less than $1. If you prefer a less sweeter drink, you can always request the staff member to reduce the amount of sugar in the drink. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. One person in our paper was not satisfied with their drink as it was much sweeter than expect. The staff was able to remake the drink to be less sweeter without charging for another drink. This tells you that the company values you and keep you satisfied. Overall, this place is one of the friendliest Kung Fu Tea establishments I've been to. The market is tight now for tea drinks and seem to be popping up everywhere like cheap chineese takeout. The franchise is not offering new drinks that you cant get anywhere else. This has been my most frequented location. I find myself frequently picking up boba for my baby mama and family members. The staff are usually very nice and accommodating. This spot used to be crazy busy but has gotten a less hectic due to other boba spots and KFT locations nearby. Obviously, I'm a fan and don't see that changing anytime soon. read more

Kung fu is always a safe bet for delicious bubble tea. My regular is the mango slush which comes with mango jelly. I like how you can customize the amount of sweetness and also the amount of ice in your drinks here. This is my favorite location out of all the kung fus in NoVA. Why 5 stars? Because I've never seen this much variety with Boba Tea. --- --- --- So many toppings, so many flavors, so much variety. If there's a place with more to choose from, I've yet to see it. I don't think I could even fathom it. The funny thing is that I was not actually totally in love with my choice, but I actually ordered a tea instead of a slush. The flavor was still great, despite the lack of consistency that I intended to order. And with such an expansive menu, there's no way you wouldn't be able to find something you love here. I come here all the time and I really love this place. I'm pretty much no-frills when it comes to bubble tea, I don't need fancy flavors or elaborate toppings, but luckily when I do get the craving for something more unusual, Kung Fu Tea has both options. I like that they've been getting new toppings but I still am holding out hope for golden bubbles like they have at Koi. I generally go for the yogurt grapefruit with half sugar and nata jelly, or matcha milk with half sugar and black boba. Obviously I love both and usually go for those, but sometimes I try something new, and I haven't been disappointed yet (except for the time I forgot to ask for half sugar, but that was my fault). It can be kind of confusing for first timers because the choices are overwhelming but you can't really go wrong with one of their milk teas. Not sure why places charge extra for boba (it should be included in the price, like it is in Taiwan), but the boba pearl were actually a good consistency and pretty sweet. Quick, efficient, no-nonsense service. You walk in, put your order in, and you're out in a jiffy. That all depends on the night though. You can never predict when there's a throng of Asians storming this shop. If it's crowded, expect to get your boba after 10+ minutes plus god knows how longer in line you'll wait. LOVED their Mango snow with bubble! It was refreshing, tasty, and mangoful. I think it also had a lot of sugar because I was feeling very hyper afterwards. They packed my drink with bubble and jelly at the bottom, which I enjoyed. I got my bf the black tea and he loved it! He hates sweet, sugary drinks like slurpees, so this was the perfect drink for him. He said he felt like it had caffeine as well. Even though there was a line, They only took 5 minutes max to make my drinks. The girl at the cash register was really nice and didn't mind that I asked her for drink suggestions. The first thing that I noticed about this location was the size of it. It was a Saturday afternoon when I came here and I expected to not find any empty seats. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were seats because it was a bigger space. The menu consisted of a variety of tea drinks; you can choose a tea base such as slush, milk, yogurt, coffee, punch or just tea. You can also add toppings to your drink such as boba, herbal jelly or pudding. You determine how much ice and sweetness you want for your drink. There are only two sizes to choose from: medium or large. In my opinion, the medium size is equivalent to a small. The width of the cup is much smaller compared to the large cup. I ordered a honey green tea with herbal jelly which is the same as grass jelly. They were generous with the toppings and my drink had the perfect hint of sweetness to it. My husband ordered a mango slushy and he enjoyed it. There were pieces of mango jelly in his drink and it was refreshing. The best place in the DMV area to get a bubble tea fix! While there's no shortage of possible combinations, my go-to is the winter melon milk green tea with bubbles and pudding - pure happiness in a cup. Chewy bubbles, and I like the fact that you can customize sugar and ice amounts. Lines move quickly and prices are reasonable. I prefer this location over the new one in Eden Center (even though it's closer to me) because at the latter it took over 10 minutes to get my drink with one person in line ahead of me - and the pudding had an odd after-taste. I'll admit, I was very skeptical. But wow ok it's good tea. They have a ton of options which is very overwhelming at first. But the nice worker explained everything to me, even let me sample some of the pudding with a long line behind me. My group ended up trying the following: -taro slush with boba -honey oolong milk tea -ginger milk with pudding -strawberry cream with boba Taro is my go-to bubble smoothie, and it was amazing here. Not sure if I can still say thanh son is my favorite place for a taro smoothie anymore....need to have it a few more times here Honey oolong was delicious. Great flavor, real honey, subtle and sweet Ginger milk was also really good. Great fresh ginger flavor (could feel the mild burn in your throat), which was perfect. The custard was also nice, but the boba here is the best I've had anywhere, so definitely get boba. The boba is a little warm, a little sweet, and the perfect texture. This particular Kung Fu location is pretty hopping, and the service is unbelievable - I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Janice and Sam here - they're both super sweet and always remember us :D The line was pretty long, but still manageable. The menu, just like the others, offers Classics, Punch, Milk Teas, Milk Strikes, Espressos, Yogurts, Slush, and various specials. I've tried the Sunshine Pineapple Punch (100% sweetness, no boba; this was my least favorite as I was just not a fan of its pulp-like jam) and the Yogurt Grapefruit (yes, made with those tiny little bottles of yogurt, this had a nice little grapefruit tang and has some pulp within; I suggest getting it with little ice or chill it before drinking it). My favorite go-to beverage, however, is the KF Coconut Milk Tea, 100% sweetness, no ice, with tons of nata jelly. The Passion Fruit Slush is also another favorite, as it's quite refreshing; adding a little bit of boba to it is also nice. The interior of this place is definitely decorated well, with pub tables, longer tables for groups, and some chairs. It is amazing the number of locations they have, so you're bound to either find one close to you or one that is coming soon. As soon as I heard Kung Fu was opening in Annandale, I hoped, skipped and jumped my fanny to their location. Kung Fu boasts fresh, brewed teas and fresh fruit. A variety of brewed teas can be found sitting on the shelf behind the counter and poured when an order is requested. They offer Milk Tea, Punch , Slushes, Milk Strikes, Yogurt and Expresso for drinks and add-ons like bubbles, pudding, jellies. I came for my love of the taro milk smoothie with boba, and having been so disappointed lately, I wasn't exactly excited to try KF out, but was willing to take the risk anyway. After a long wait in line, I'd finally arrived. The employee kindly asked what I would like, and it took me a minute. OK! I got overwhelmedi with the choices! There's teas and milks and smoothies and boba and jellies and...I mean gosh. I knew what I wanted when I was in line, I just got a little rattled when I walked up to the counter and saw all of their offerings. The employee asked if it was my first time (basically, did I know what Vietnamese drinks were). To which I said, "Give me a Taro Milk Smoothie with boba, medium sugar." Ha! Im so predictable. I don't care about anything else in the world right now, my all-time favorite milk tea shop has opened FIVE MINUTES away from my house!!! Believe the hype--it's that good. I first had Kung Fu Tea a few years back during a visit to NY. It's unlike any milk tea place I've had around here (which is already limited), so it definitely reigns supreme in my book. What I love about it is that it's not heavily riddled with sugar/powder and doesn't take away from the prominent tea flavor, but at the same time the tea flavor isn't exceedingly strong. It's well-balanced in my opinion which can cater to both the Americanized and traditional masses. As for this location, it has recently soft-opened and I was fortunate they had enough supply to conjure up one of my favorite orders- Oolong milk tea with grass jelly + pudding + 1/2 sugar. I love that they allow you to adjust the sugar and ice levels. I also love that their menu is quite vast, it's almost overwhelming. My other favorites aside from their regular milk tea are taro milk tea, passionfruit green tea, and oreo milk tea. They also serve hot drinks, slushies, fruity teas, etc. When I came by, the employees were all still in training mode, but nonetheless they were very friendly and worked as quickly as they could. I'm sure they will work out whatever kinks they have (I for one didn't experience any) once they officially open this coming weekend. I've been to Kung Fu Tea so many times in the past week. There are so many drinks and flavors to try! I love that you can tailor the sweetness and ice levels to your liking. It is the perfect craving....Boba for dessert? sure! Let's meet for milk tea instead of coffee? yeah I'm down! Get that free wi-fi at Kung Fu instead of Starbucks? uh...yeah! Race to get there at 9:50PM because you've been craving it all day? YES. The Taro Slush with no bubbles is my current favorite. Perfect, unadulterated taro flavor in slushie form so that you don't gulp it down too quickly (well you could but *brainfreeze*). The Taro Milk Tea was pretty good too. I've tasted the KF Green Milk Tea which was refreshing and addictive. It's a few blocks from Little River Turnpike next to a Pho joint. There's plenty of seating so it's a good place for a quick meetup with friends or you know chill with the 5 drinks that you're about to take home. They are so close to perfection. I still can't get over the fact that the Coffee Milk Tea wasn't the best. The bubbles texture hasn't always been on point. I have to admit, I am a huge sucker for commotion and concentrated camaraderie so when I saw a long line outside of Kung Fu Tea, I had to give it a try. Even though I have no heavy knowledge about what to look for in bubble tea, I do occasionally get some cravings for it and here I was after making a trip out to H Mart ready to satisfy that craving. Simply put, it was pretty delicious and the poor cashier was so unbelievably friendly and patience in lieu of my ignorance and walked me through exactly what I wanted. I got the honey and milk tea with the bubble - it was slightly sweet with a clear flavor of honey, milk, and black tea and those little pellet shaped tapioca bubbles were such a nice and fun texture. It's overhyped. I had this for the first time in New York City and it was great. I had the Iced Milk Teas and the Hot Lattes, never disappointed. However, this was a huge disappointment for me. The moment I walked in there was a gust of.......odor. I can't exactly describe the odor but it's noticeably unpleasant to us. They have a huge selection of drinks and you can even customize how you want your drink which is cool, Amounts of Ice, sweetness, and added toppings like boba, jelly, ect. Toppings are an extra 50 cents, meaning the boba/bubble in your drink is NOT included, so you must say so. The workers can't really speak or understand english very well, so for some drinks we had questions about they could not answer. So we ended up just getting plain milk teas. The milk teas are made of powder and water, unless you order something specifically asking for milk. I ordered an Ice Milk Green Tea, they got it wrong and gave me just Milk Tea. We ordered 5 drinks and they never called our order number, I had to go up and ask for them. Not to be mean but the taste of the NYC I would rate at a 4/5, this place.....would be a 1/5. It was very bland, I guess they didn't give me enough powder lol. It was so bland I could taste the metallic flavor in the tap water. And afterward we all had the worst aftertaste. I was so excited for this coming to our area but unfortunately it's far from being the same. Maybe they will improve things, but unfortunately I will probably not return. Gosh, this shop portends the bubble tea Asian invasion of the USA like no other. They've got a Starbucks-style ordering system down pat. You the customer have to specify your preferences (less - little - no ice/sweet). This place is just the current rave with all the pretty young Korean-American things. (Their other location in Rockville is in a heavily Chinese area opposite an old Chinese-owned grocery store.) I got the taro milk green tea, with lowered levels of ice and sugar. Funny how I hate milky things, but I adore this concoction called milk tea here. It doesn't taste like dairy at all. It's just light and delicious. Stopped by because I love boba. I never miss an opportunity. I went to this location as well as the one at the big mall, haha forgot the name because I was just visiting the area. This boba shop is so insta worthy, it's well decorated and designed. There's lots of seating so bring all your friends. Perfect place to study and hangout! There wasn't a line up when I showed up and it wasn't very packed. I just got a regular Kung Fun Milk Tea, and it was so good! It's super flavourful and very milky.. well atleast mine was. So I hear the bubble tea / boba in the DC vicinity aren't great. It didn't help that my friends have told me that this chain is infamous for cheap tea and low quality taste. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised. To compare to other bubble tea venues, I ordered regular bubble milk tea. I ordered 50% sweetness and less ice. I am happy with my drink and recommend everyone to come here because the drinks have more tea flavor and is closer to being authentic compared to other places in DC. Now this part is just a tip on sweetness and ice. Unless you guys really like cold drinks and drink slowly, then get regular ice. Or else, I would usually get less ice because you get more drink. For sweetness, I almost never get 100% sweetness anymore because to me that's like drinking straight sugar. 70% works best and for those who enjoy the tea flavor and less on sweetness then 50% is fine. read more

Kung Fu tea has a lot of flavors both creamy and juicy and different toppings aside from boba. You can also adjust you ice and sweetness levels which is nice. I had heard from friends that this location is always busy and I could definitely see that from when I went. It was almost 9 PM when I went and the place was still packed. The line wrapped around the entire perimeter of the room pretty much. I will say that although the line is long, once you order your drink it's really quick. I tried the winter melon milk green tea and the oreo milk tea. Both were really good! I had tried the winter melon milk tea before and I think that one had a stronger melon flavor, but the winter melon milk green tea was still good and not as sweet as the former. I'm not sure I would have been able to decipher the melon and green tea flavors since it was so mild tasting. The oreo milk tea was surprising. It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like - regular milk tea with pieces of crushed oreo in it. The flavor of the oreo and milk tea went surprisingly well together. I also enjoyed the texture of the oreo in the tea which made it feel more milkshake-like. Not only is the tea good, but the boba itself is really good. They're perfectly sweetened and chewy. Given that I've been frequenting Kung Fu Tea almost weekly now (RIP health), I've decided to bump up their rating to 4 stars from the original 3 stars I gave back when they first opened. This is definitely one of the best boba places in Northern Virginia/DC/MD (certainly Northern Virginia and DC). Every time I've been here, the line has been out the door. It doesn't even matter what time I go; there's always a line and that's because KF Tea has the best boba around. I'm not saying it's Cali good or even NYC good, but it is very good for this area. This is probably one of the best bubble tea places I've been to. I always get their classic black bubble tea or taro bubble tea, and this will probably be the only place where I would get taro bubble tea. Most places I've been to either has taro bubble tea with the most awful aftertaste or just doesn't taste taro. Kung Fu Tea definitely knows their bubble tea. Their wait time was slightly long for having an almost empty place, but their teas are worth the wait. Their tea is well mixed and their bubbles are nice and chewy, whereas some places are either too hard or has strange taste. The decor isn't outstanding but it is average. I think they can use bit more touch here and there, but it isn't so barren that I would take off points for it. I would definitely come back again and recommend this place to other people. read more

Mediocre pearl tea fans rejoice! Your slightly above ok milk tea has arrived with the opening of Kung Fu. I was ecstatic to learn that KFT was opening up closer to me in Annandale. The thought of chewy sweet pearls made me drool. Fast forward to my visit during their soft opening and grand opening. My first cup was the Wintermelon Green Milk Tea with coconut jelly. It was ok, but it didn't taste creamy or as rich as I would like. Had a cup of milk tea with pearls upon my second visit and that experience was even more disappointing. Bottom line: pearls are great here, but the milk tea doesn't cut it. Alas, my wait for a delicious pearl tea spot nearby in Virginia continues. Will be satisfying my craving from SnoCream whenever I can make it over. read more

Love love love Kung Fu tea! I'm not surprise if a second location in nova is in the works. The boba here is delicious, best boba ever! Always a long line but it goes by pretty quickly. The drinks are fresh and you can customize the level of sweetness, ice, etc. Their hot drinks are pretty good too, great on a cold winter day. I also love that their drinks are consistent every time. My staple is green milk tea with grass jelly. Kung Fu tea always consistently good-tasting, quality milk tea! The grass jelly varies from time to time in consistency, and I neither love nor hate their version of grass jelly. Pudding here is firm and good too! I've also tried the ginger milk tea, but this was way too much milk and not enough ginger. Price-wise, KFT is neither cheaper nor more expensive than some other local options. read more

I know a lot of people were thrilled when KFT finally arrived in northern Virginia. I've had bubble tea in Korea, Philly and LA but KFT takes the cake in this area, if you're willing to brave the wrap-around lines at peak hours. I haven't had any of the slushies or coffees but I've tasted taro green tea, sunshine pineapple tea, wintermelon milk green tea, and milk tea just to name a few. I would recommend all of the flavors I've listed, with the exception of the pineapple. It tasted like pineapple juice with pulp. Just not my cup of tea (ba dum tss). The tapioca bubbles here are always prepared well, with the proper bite. The pudding and the herbal jelly are also good, though I usually order my drinks without toppings. I'm glad this place recently added an iPad POS. It really helps with the speed of ordering because you can see your order details populate the screen as the cashier rings you up. I don't have any complaints about KFT except for the long lines, but that's kind of expected. read more

This location is out of the way for me but well worth it. Gone are the days of me reading Mike B.'s reviews on his adoration for their yummy, satisfying concoctions. Oh yes Yelpers....you gots to get your own. Here's how it goes down; take a friend with you. Pull up and tell said friend to go get they butt in line while you park. You park the car while your friend realizes how serious the line can get and the two of you then stare at the many options on the menu board. No boo, don't get an attitude when someone else's buddies do the same thing you doing by holding down the line. The products here are that fresh and delicious that any sign of warm weather is the equivalent to the Krispy Kreme light being on and an instant urge to get your fix at KFT. I savored my drink and cherished the bubbles I added. Instead of selecting my favorite flavor (mango) I got the honey lemonade and it was a sign that I have to come back and explore the rest of the options. Great service, clean areas to sit and enjoy if you don't get it to go. Bathroom was clean and stocked, plus they'll hook you up with a military discount if you too legit to quit. read more

I've been hearing about this place since it opened so coming back from school, of course I have to try it. There are a ton of options from coffee to lychee. You get to choose if you want no ice, light or a lot as well as added boba, jelly and lots of other options. The service was really fast and there was a good amount of seating. Visited today for their "soft opening". Seems like they're still working out the kinks on their payment system as it took slightly longer than normal to ring up an order. My preference for bubble tea is for a basic Green/Jasmine tea, half sweet with boba and/or lychee jelly. It highlights the quality of their base tea, and allows you to enjoy the boba and jelly without the influence of heavy flavors. Overall the tea was decent, though my "half sweet" barely had any sweetness to it. The jelly also did not seem as sweet as other tea places. So either this place leans towards the less sweet side of the sugar/syrup spectrum or something got messed up. Bathroom facilities were nice and clean, as expected. The men's restroom has a no-touch soap dispenser, no-touch sink, as well as a no-touch urinal. Standard toilet. I'll definitely be back again once the place officially opens and update accordingly. read more
