We had dinner here with friends. Located in a strip mall area and off a busy main street. We weren't sure how long the wait would be since it is Valentine's Day. But after 10 min we were seated in the very busy restaurant. Earlier an elderly couple walked out and we had mentioned it was our first time to the restaurant. The said, you will not be disappointed. The restaurant is open and it was filled with chatter from the customers. Plenty of seating inside and very busy. We quickly got food. We were often checked on by the servers. We ordered fried and fresh spring rolls for appetizers. Our friends ordered pho. We ordered mixed fried rice (chicken, beef, shrimp), grilled pork with broken rice. I loved everything. Great flavors. Additionally it is clear it's a family-owned establishment with the decor and atmosphere that is very comforting while eating. Lastly, the food was a 10/10. Came here the other day for lunch and was very happy with my experience. The restaurant is no frills and has a relaxed vibe. I ordered the grilled beef with broken rice and a Vietnamese coffee. The entree was great! It was simple but very flavorful, with the beef being very tender and having the slight char from the grill. The dipping sauce and the pickles paired very well to balance the savory goodness. It was also my first time having Vietnamese coffee with the drip contraption they put on top of the glass. Was looking for a new pho spot and came across Khai Hoan, near ASU in Tempe. This is one of the first Vietnamese restaurants in Tempe. They will be celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. The owner John was very friendly and answered some questions that I had. The pho takes two days to make and you can definitely taste the quality and care in the preparation. The pho is made with non flour noodles and beef bones are boiled to create the stock. The flavor is very mild and well balanced - not too sweet. I had the pho #2. I also sampled two of their spring rolls. Wrapped in lettuce and mint with oil, they are wonderful. Everything is made daily and fresh. I found my new pho spot and will be back soon. read more

I've been to this pho place so many times and it's always so amazing. The broth is so rich and full of flavor. I usually get the chicken pho, it has chicken breast and broth. The beef pho is also good but it's more on the sweeter side so I prefer the chicken one. The portion size is huge and it's only $15 for the chicken one which is fairly cheap. It has a ton of noodles, green onion, cilantro, and on the side some bean sprouts, jalapeños, and lime. We have also tried the appetizers like the egg rolls, spring rolls, fried shrimp, and the crab puffs, they are all so delicious. The spring rolls have a peanut sauce on the side which tastes great but I prefer mine with some sriracha. I'm not much of a seafood person but my boyfriend and sister love the fried shrimp and crab puffs. The restaurant seems like a family owned place, they're all so kind. They are very attentive with everyone and make sure everyone has what they need. The place has many seating options and has all the silverware you need. I love this place so much, it's my comfort spot. I definitely recommend trying it out. read more

Last night I went in and ordered takeout from Khai Hoan in Tempe, and it ended up being a great experience overall. I got pho (#3) and goi cuon (fresh spring rolls with shrimp and rice noodles), and both were really good. The pho had a lot of flavor and tasted fresh, and the portion was enough to last me two days! The spring rolls surprised me the most. They came with a peanut sauce, which I usually don't like since I personally hate peanuts and all peanut products, but theirs was so good I finished the entire cup-full they gave me. It was smooth, not overpowering, and paired so well with the rolls. That alone made the meal stand out. I ordered my food to go, and the service was great! The gentleman who took my order was really friendly and told me where I could sit while I waited. It didn't take long at all for them to prepare my order, and they brought the food directly to me when it was ready, which was really nice. The atmosphere was also awesome--very chill and casual. Since it's in close proximity to ASU's campus, there were a lot of college students there, either grabbing dinner or studying, which made it feel comfortable and familiar. It also seemed like a place people come back to regularly, which says a lot about the consistency of the food. I will absolutely be coming back. The service from the get go was great. I was constantly checked on which I appreciated. What stood out the most about this restaurant was the quality of the meat. All the meat we ate was very very good. The meat little to not fat and didn't have the fat gummy texture. The tripe was very very good. The pho had a very clean flavorful broth which I appreciated. The eggrolls came out pipping hot and were great but I waited someone time to eat the last eggrolls and it tasted much better the longer it sat which I think was odd but a really great surprise. Decent place to get your pho fix. We had a combo pho which had nice flavor. It came out extra hot so all the bean sprouts had plenty of heat to cook in the broth. They had the extra large size if you're feeling extra hungry. We also tried their fried rice noodle with pork and veggies. We loved the crispy rice chunks and sauce was really tasty. My go-to order is their noodle soup. Always generous portion of beef, clear and flavorful soup. If you've ever been to the restroom, you would've had the chance walk through their kitchen. You can see the kitchen is clean and organized, and you can see huge stainless steel bucket-size pots filled with boiling soup base with all kinds of natural seasonings such as onions. Servers are straightforward and also very kind. They are not the kind of servers that introduce themselves and make small talks with you, but they are always helpful and efficient. I'm in love! After hearing some chatter about Khải Hoàn I made my 40 minute drive to check them out. Word of mouth is important to any business and it was worth every minute. You'll find them in such an unassuming parking lot. I nearly drove by it and if it wasnt for my map I might just have. The location is small, but the service big! I've never met a more friendly group. This family owned business really loves what they do and it shows in the quality and presentation of their food. We couldn't decide on appetizers so we opted for both crab puffs and egg rolls. For our entree we chose Pho Tom Cua (#10) which is seafood rice noodle with both shrimp and crab meat as well as Pho Tai (#3) Rare Beef Pho. Everything came out fairly quick. Appetizer first. I loved how the egg rolls were presented with the fresh veggies and fish sauce to go with it all. Delicious! I'm not typically a fan of crab puffs, but my daughter wanted to try them so we ordered them. These were quite good. The pho portions were huge, good portions of protein and full of flavor. Additional toppings were fresh and plentiful and jalepeno pretty spicy. Everything you need is at the table from chopsticks, sauces, spoons and more. We were checked on multiple times, drinks refilled and nice conversation. You could tell there were a lot of regulars coming in and it was pretty busy with walk ins our entire meal. I was greeted by friendly customer service and the food quickly came out fresh to order. The egg rolls are to die for! Some of the best I have ever had. Decent portion size too and the meat was really nice and thin. I do wish they provided more garnishes with the pho, as they only gave us 1 lime each and we had to split one side of bean sprouts. Our bowls were 12.95 a piece. It's a small restaurant and you kind of seat yourself so keep that in mind. The staff are quick, friendly, and efficient.
