I won't be ordering out from this establishment again. Khyber Pass was a gem when I first moved to Oak Park. Now, it seems, the food quality is lackluster, to say the least. My son and I placed an order for pickup. I ordered the Aaloo Gobi, which is potatoes and cauliflower cooked in a rich tomato gravy. There was nothing rich or tomatoey about the dish. It was bland, tasteless and the gravy was watered down. I also ordered the samosas appetizers, three in all. They were not cooked to order, as they were all cold. The restaurant normally offers a dinner buffet. So, if I had to guess, the samosas were pulled directly from the buffet line. Also, the chutney and green dipping sauces were watery. You can tell they've watered down their sauces and gravies to cut costs. That's a BIG red sign, as it make me wonder what else they are willing to compromise to save a few pennies. We loved this place. For the first time we ordered delivery. They arrived with our food in less than 45 min. Our food was amazing. We ordered the chicken masala, naan, rice. Bland, flavorless and disappointing. I was hoping to taste flavors that would remind me of India. Instead I am regretting to have spent my hard earned money on something utterly rubbish. This is such a great restaurant with authentic cuisine. The naan is absolutely amazing. A huge portion with delicious flavor and texture. We ordered the tikka masala with goat, and paneer, with extra rice, so sopping the sauce up with such a big portion of beautiful naan was beyond satisfying! Khyber pass is one of those Indian restaurants which you're lucky to have in the neighborhood - it's reliable, the owners are friendly, and the food is good. I've had Khyber pass a couple of times - once for the buffet, and once for carry out. The interior has subdued lighting and traditional decor. I found the buffet to have high quality food and to offer a good value. I found myself going back for seconds and thirds. For my carry out order, I had the lamb vindaloo, which packed a nice spice punch. I agree with another reviewer that suggests entrees should come with rice, especially since it costs mere pennies per serving to make. A $3 upcharge for rice as a side is a bit much. I think an upcharge for paratha or naan is fine, though. I will definitely be checking out the buffet again when I'm in Oak Park at lunchtime. Our dinner could not have been better! We had Allo Gobi, Chicken Tiki Masala, Bengan Bharta, and Samosa Chaat. We ordered the Mild, and it was plenty spicy. The dishes were each unique, and flavorful. I've tried so many Indian places that were too hot, and the flavors were masked. Usually when we order mild, we get something with NO flavor. This is probably the most fake samosa chaat I have ever had. I am desi and I know how samosa chaat is. They literally placed two small samosas and a table spoon of yogurt. The chaat was without chick peas (first time I ever had a chaat like this). And the serving size was too small. I use Uber eats to deliver the food, on the Uber eats menu for khyber pass they have written on every single entry "comes with rice and soup" the last two times I did not get any soup. I called to ask about it and they didn't do anything or care one bit. I don't support businesses with false menu promises and poor customer support. I would definitely go back. Went with some vegetarian friends. Found the only Indian restaurant (really?) in Oak Park. We LOVED it. We had 3 veggie dishes that came with rice. We also ordered raita, mango chutney and the bread basket for 4. My husband had a lamb dish, which was fabulous. Everything was delicious, very tasty, not too spicy. We each had a drink - wine or beer. Service was excellent. Decor was lovely. Bathrooms were clean. Owners were nice helpful people. FYI - we got there around 5.30 pm on a Saturday and by the time we were leaving at 7:15 or so, it was packed and people were waiting for a table. Plan accordingly. I'm not a big fan of Indian food. My first experience was pretty terrible and ever since I just swore the stuff off. Well then I went to Thursday Night Out over the summer and my partner (who loves Indian food) got a sample from Khyber Pass and he let me try some (even though I told him I didn't want to touch the stuff) and that was that. Love at first bite! This place is delicious. We've ordered from there multiple times and every time the experience is consistent and delicious. Samosas are fantastic, the chicken tikka masala is insanely yummy. The lamb saag is off the chain! And I love their naan! My only complaint is that the rice isn't included with any of their meals. I stopped by for the lunch buffet. It's a good option if you want to try a few different dishes. They had all the staples and I quickly grabbed a plate of chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, saag paneer and vegetable pakora over rice. The waiter even brought out a side of naan. Everything was flavorful and the spice level was low so anyone could enjoy. I have to get this off my chest; Indian dishes that cost $12 to $14 an order should come with rice. Charging the customer $3 for the rice that goes along with the dish is one of my biggest pet peeves. I have ordered from Khyber Pass twice, the first time I ordered from them I asked if they included rice with their dishes, the lady said they did not so I just ordered the entrees. While they were making it, I started making a batch of basmati rice in my rice cooker at home. When I picked up the order, they gave me rice after all. Sure, I had too much rice, but at least I figured that the next time I ordered, I would get rice. Fast forward to Saturday, I again ordered two entrees, figuring that since my order included rice the first time it would again. You guessed it, no rice. So annoying. The food is decent, I would definitely be a customer if not for the annoyances. But there are definitely other Indian places that we will go to instead of having to make our own rice or be charged an extra $6 for the two dishes my wife and I order to include an essential component. I just finished eating all I could of the Chicken Tikka Masala. I got that and 2 Nan and 1 serving of the Samosa which comes with three of them. Between me and two other grown women we had half of a nan left and a little over a third of the Masala left and we are now all stuffed! The atmosphere in the restaurant is a little drab at a glance, but I don't care based on how amazing the food is. I've heard bad reviews from others on this place, but I don't know why, I am entirely satisfied. I hear there's a buffet, and even though I am full right now, I can't wait to try their buffet! We moved here a year ago and LOVED Khyber Pass. Got friends hooked on it. I lived for their saag paneer. But over the past few months, it has gone downhill. The flavors are off. The chutneys are watered down. The appetizers are smaller and less flavorful, more filler and less of the good stuff. Stale naan!! about 12 years my three year old and I walked into an Indian restaurant with an interesting name. It was my first experience with Indian food. I had the vegetable bhriani and I was hooked! came back an tried dishes like lentils, chicken tikka misala, chutni, and was amazed how great indian food was. when i visited other indian restaurants, I found them to be good, but nowhere near as good as Kyhber Pass. Also found some bad ones along the way. I've since gone to hundreds of Indian restaurants in Chicago and around the US and even Toronto area (became my second home for a while and indian was my go-to) while traveling for work. To this day, Khyber Pass is STILL the best Indian restaurant Ive ever had! this is bittersweet because I moved to Evanston and dont make it Oak Park much. I met up a friend for Dinner Friday here because it had been two years since eating here and was missing it. I was delighted that they are still on the top of their game! Tried a new dish, th Chicken 65, and it was amazing! What I realized sets them apart is their use of spices and seasoning for flavoring in just the right degree to create a dal or a chicken curry you can get anyhwere else taste like nowhere else. Im Puerto Rican and this is similar to what makes good Puerto Rican food stand out. it is mastering the flavors in the right way so that you do not overpower with one thing or another, or leave something out. Their freshness is also always outstanding so it makes the experience better. If anyone knows of an indian restaurant that is on par with Khyber Pass in Evanston area let me know!!! Surprisingly good Indian food! I say surprisingly because Khyber Pass is literally one of the few Indian/Pakistani restaurants in Oak Park--AND it's conveniently located downtown. Now, I'm not Indian, but I grew up in South East Asia eating a lot of Indian food, so I'm a little picky about my curries and naan. I think I had their Chicken Marsala with naan and my husband had a Vindaloo (can't remember which one though) with naan and they were both pretty delicious. Definitely left me wanting to try more, but the portions were so big that that was not really an option for us... In that sense, the cost performance of the food is incredible! There aren't enough Indian options in Oak Park which is a shame. Kyber Pass definitely did the trick for us this weekend. We had the buffet and ordered off the menu for one of the kids. The buffet was definitely good, with a lot of vegetarian options as well as clearly-labelled vegan options. It is so nice to see a vegan-friendly restaurant in Oak Park. The weekend buffet was $20 pp which was very expensive for us, especially considering that we only ate the vegan options and I strongly feel like we were essentially paying for the meat options as well. I would encourage the restaurant to consider charging different prices for vegetarians. If I ordered from here again, I would only order off the menu to avoid paying the higher prices. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who lived in the area. It is located in downtown Oak Park. Parking was a little bit difficult... Took us about 15 mins to find parking. We elected the buffet option which was disappointing as the options were very limited. It cost about $12-14 .... I didn't think it was worth it still because I have paid a bit less and gotten more for Indian buffet. The customer service was OK. Service felt a bit rushed.. Like they were hurrying to get us out. The food itself was just OK. I typically go for seconds when I order buffet but nothing tasted great enuf to go back for seconds. Finally, they only had 2 dessert options. It was also alright. I have to admit I had heard mixed reviews of this place. I really used to love the Clay Oven but they went out of business a couple of years ago. So I'm craving Indian and a co-worker says its good. Really? Are you sure? I heard it wasn't that good. Well.... during my visit to Oak Park, I went to lunch there twice. They have a nice lunch buffet that has just what I need. Either a butter chicken or a chicken tikki masala kind of dish... they have the delicious rice and of course the lovely pan of vegetables. I will be sure to go back when I'm next in town. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. They may have made mistakes in the past, I'm not sure, but I have been there for lunch twice and its WELL WORTH it! Definitely a fan of Khyber Pass for some delicious, homestyle Indian food. The lunch buffet has a good variety of meat and vegetarian options for a decent price and the dinner buffet is also delish. I don't tend to order a la carte from here since there are usually great options on the buffet, but they do have a great variety of Indian food from various regions of India.
