I was in Walnut Creek for work and I was craving for Banh Mi. I found this place on Yelp and wanted to try it out, since it had great reviews. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, vegetarian sandwich and fresh shrimp rolls. The grilled chicken was more of a lemongrass chicken sandwich which kind of through me off, but it tasted ok. The vegetarian sandwich was good, but the veggies were a little soggy and I wish it had more crunch to it. I really like their bread it made the sandwiches good. A small little cafe between office buildings, very cute interior. We needed to buy some bike parts in Walnut Creek and we were a bit hungry so we decided to buy something light and cheap. So we ended up buying a 4" grilled pork banh mi ($5) to split between the 2 of us. I really liked how the baguette was very crunchy but also soft, not hard to chew. Once upon a time, two old high school friends wanted some shelter from the rare California rain, and they found a nearby banh mi cafe by a hotel and business park. The location was odd, but the kiosk was intimate and tastefully decorated, reminding the protagonist of her last vacation to Tokyo. She ordered a combo (head cheese, pate, etc.) banh mi and shrimp spring rolls; rumors are that you can get this lunch combo for $9. "What a steal," thought the hungry patron. After a reasonable wait, they sat down with their food in the outdoor patio in the back and devoured their food. The combination of delicious, toasted French bread, strong Vietnamese iced coffee, and the rain was like a real-life chillhop video. The best thing about this experience? The chicken banh mi was quite good. The bread was toasted perfectly so it had a delightfully crispy crunchy bite but was still soft on the inside. It has a sort of curry sauce on the chicken which wasn't exactly the flavor I was expecting but it was still good. The pork noodle salad was also good but a little more bland compared to the sharp flavors of the banh mi. Ordered as takeout and wasn't given any napkins which would've been nice but alas. Kibi's Cafe. The name is too fun to say and the show it just adorable. I had passed by this restaurant before during the beginning of COVID/Shelter-In-Place and I am happy that they have reopened. I was with family, at Target, when I decided that my mood was changing due to my hunger. I went on trusty Yelp and noticed Kibi's cafe popping up. Intrigued at what they offered, I scrolled through the photos and reviews to see that the Banh Mi was the signature must-get item. I noted that I needed to try that but I was craving something else. I ended deciding on 3-pieces of their chicken spring rolls, a Ruby 3-colors dessert drink, and a large Vietnamese Iced Coffee. The walk was very short and the employees were very nice. It was a small shop, but they were making use of it. Very nicely decorated and a simple menu. I placed my order and they indicated that it'll be about 10-15 minutes. Due to shelter-in-place, I wanted outside. During my 10 minute wait, there were 2 parties that came in to pick up their pre-ordered food, and 1 party that went in to place an order. The people that placed the order told me that my order was ready. I wish they had a box to put my things in. The 3-pieces were the size of 1/2 roll's and fit the diameter of the small container they had. The chicken was a bit dry, but had a rich lemon-grass flavor that was delightful. The rolls were alright, but I feel like I understood the thing to get were the sandwiches. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee was made well. Very glad I got that. I'm looking forward to coming back again and trying a couple of other items. The Five Spice Pork Banh Mi is definitely calling my name. read more

I love going to Kibi's for lunch. The Tofu Bahn Mi,and the Fresh Shrimp rolls 3pcs. are delicious. My only feedback is that the shrimp rolls have gotten smaller and smaller in size (mini shrimp rolls). It's not worth the price. read more

Kibi's deserves five stars, if not, more! It is such a cute little cafe with super nice workers and delicious bahn mi, summer rolls, and tea (the things I ordered). Every item was full of flavor and better than competitors. I was amazed by the price. You don't have to damage your wallet to eat here. Everything is very fairly priced. I was shocked by the quality of food for how much I paid. I got two orders of bahn mi, three summer rolls, and a Thai tea for a little over $25... which is impossible to find these days! Moving to the area was a little rough food-wise considering we previously had access to a plethora of Asian food. One especially apparent loss was access to good banh mi, which thankfully we eventually covered with Kibi's. There isn't a better banh mi until you head far down to South Bay - the banh mi at Kibi's has the right balance of fresh herbs and pickled veg to meat and pate (you can even order extra pate). Their other food is similarly well-seasoned. We get banh mi from here at least once a month so this review was a long time coming. So happy to find a good banh mi spot in the East Bay! I'm pretty partial to banh mi in San Jose, and most of the spots I've tried outside of the South Bay have been either too pricey or too bougie. Kibi's is a small, easy-to-miss spot that gets everything right. FOOD: Their menu is short but sweet, and everything they do, they do well. There are 5 times of banh mi, 5 types of gỏi cuốn (summer rolls), and a couple other options, including Vietnamese coffee. Everything is well-priced considering it's Walnut Creek, at $7.50 for a banh mi and $6.50 for 3 summer rolls. Both the banh mi and rolls are packed to the brim with fresh veggies. The rolls in particular are bursting with fresh herbs, to the point where you just feel good about yourself after eating one. When it comes to banh mi, I always get the grilled pork here. The meat is fragrant with lemongrass and never tough or dry, and they're not stingy with it either. The bread is fresh and well-toasted so it doesn't cut your mouth and stays soft on the inside. Best of all, they include pate and butter/mayo spread in every sandwich (my two must-haves in banh mi). ATMOSPHERE: Located in a small business park, the place itself is pretty tiny and doesn't have indoor seating, but they do have a small seats outside area. The owner of the shop is a kind lady who always turns out orders quickly and efficiently. OVERALL: Just a great, locally-run banh mi shop that clearly cares about the food they make. A small and cute place, perfect for to-go. I got their grilled chicken noodle salad. I really loved how fresh the vegetables are and how the chicken went well with everything. I enjoyed the mix of crunchy vegetables and toppings that was included in the salad. I had Kibi's bookmarked on Yelp for a long time, and finally made it over there today. WOW. I knew there were good banh mi's around here, but didn't know they could be THIS good. I mean, I got the lemongrass tofu vegetarian one, and my meat eating husband (who killed pork banh mi) thought it was equally incredible. They were so flavorful, juicy, and the perfect amount of ingredients. They didn't skimp on the amount fillings or flavor! We also ordered the shrimp spring rolls, which were fresh, with a tasty peanut sauce. We WILL be back (maybe tomorrow). Please go support! Good, authentic, delicious little bundles of joy in the form of Vietnamese sandwiches. I always get the combo with the smaller sandwiches and shrimp rolls. I find that it's the perfect size since I usually cannot finish an entire regular size banh mi, and it's just one of those things that does not hold up well as leftovers. I like the bread crispy and it gets too soggy if eaten as leftovers. This place gets the flavors right. My favorite is the food cut sandwich--original banh mi. Any viet restaurant can make the grilled pork or grilled chicken or tofu, usually just ingredients for rice or noodle dishes and they put into bread to make banh mon the cold cut sandwich is usually only available at places that specialize in banh mi. It's the OG filling. I love it. The bread here is delicious as well. You can see the little crispy bubbles on some of the pictures. It's delicious. One step up-get the sandwich with veggies on the side and toast the bread for a couple of minutes before stuffing the veggies in and it's tastes just like the banh mi in vietnam, at the road side carts. read more

Got a text and email Thanking me for the purchase along with expected time. Then a text at the time it was ready. Right on time! The Banh Mi: nicely toasted bread, crunchy, so if you don't like the bread crunchy, remember to let them know that. Been wanting to try this place for a little while. I know banh mi is trendy but it really is one of the best, quick, meals out there. Sandwiches are Matt's favorite and the thing he missed most about the US when he was in HK so he takes them seriously. These were definitely the best in the area because of the bread. It fresh made every morning probably. Crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside so you can bite through without putting strain in your jaw. Tiny pull and chew when you bite off a piece which was just right. Properly picked carrot and daikon. Cilantro and cucumber. I thought it could used a bit more pate. The cold cut one had some decent viet cold meats but it could have had even more varieties. We even like italian head cheese which you should get anytime you see it. The roast pork was good but didn't seem roasted. More like braised I think. Still good but roast pork with some char would have been nice. Overall good sandwiches because of the bread. I found this super sweet hole in the wall place. I think it is such a hidden gem in Walnut Creek! I was suddenly craving banh mi in the area and wondered if there was one nearby, and low and behold, Kibi's! It's tucked away near an office building and it's quite small- there are a few small tables inside to wait for your food. I would say this is more of a grab and go place to eat. I got the chicken banh mi and might I say it was so delicious. It had the right bread- soft and warm. I usually order my banh mi's without the pate, and it was just as tasty to me. I really liked the amount of veggies and chicken they put in it- I didn't feel like they were being stingy :) The only downside is their hours. I think it's made more for people who work nearby, but if you're ever in the area...I say this is a must! I will definitely be back if I can make their hours! read more
