This place was so good. It features a lot of flavors that I don't typically like but here they were amazing. I'm not usually a fan of mustard, sauerkraut or pickles. I really enjoyed them in a sandwich here and I would eat at this place again. It was very, very good food and the service was efficient but nice. I had a pastrami reuben which was just really delicious with a potato pancake, a pickle from the pickle bar, and a nice brand of root beer. I think that the reason it is so good is that the ingredients are all fresh and high quality. The sandwich was really juicy. I will say that the bread in the sandwich collapsed because of all of the juiciness but to me that's the mark of a good sandwich. It was juicy not greasy. Excellent. All I can say is WOW. South Jersey lacks small places with food that is "out of this world" - or, so I thought until I tried the Kibitz room. It sits in the back of a shopping center behind a well known convenience store - if you didn't look hard enough and didn't realize it was there, you may not realize there was a cafe/deli tucked away in the corner of the strip mall. The Kibitz Room was recommended by a few of my friends and I figured I'd try something new and have lunch there this afternoon. I walked in knowing that I was wanting the Pastrami sandwich - for about $15-$16 my total order was a "whole" sandwich with enough pastrami for three people, a side (I choose potato salad) and a beverage of choice. If you haven't been there before, it is worth taking the time to step aside and study one of their take-out menus or visit them online before going. The atmosphere reminded me of NYC - classy and comfortable with lots of delicious food, people eating delicious food and lots of banter shared between the employees. I loved the atmosphere. The pastrami sandwich was out of this world - I originally looked at it and thought "just meat and bread?" - if there was anything else hidden in there, I certainly didn't see it. No cheese, kraut - nothing - and I suppose I'd have ordered a Rueben made with pastrami if I wanted the extras. The bread surprised me too - just a really soft and delicate light Jewish rye bread - no special rolls, toasted specialty breads or thick slabs of hard crusted bread. This sandwich lacked all the ingredients that I look for. BUT!!!!!!!!!! Any of those extras would have ruined the sandwich! This is top quality pastrami they claim to steam for hours - thus melting the fat into the meat. The flavor is indescribably delicious - perhaps an aged smoked meat, great steak, cheese steak, burger and roast beef all combined into one. The meat itself was the treat and the bread was just there so it can be held by your hand and delivered to your mouth. The portion size was huge, the price was just about right for the portion size and quality - our tab was $30 for two people including beverages and one of the sides upgraded to french fries - which were cooked perfect, btw. This is a restaurant that knows how to use their ingredients and make food that is absolutely a delicious treat - it's a rare find in this area, and I'll be back again. read more

I live out of state and ate here several years ago for the first time and couldn't forget how good it was! I brought my husband with me when we came back this time and he loved it too! This seems to be a place where the "elite," eat judging from the reviewers. I liked it a lot. A big step above Short Hills. It is a bit strange. We needed to figure out the ordering and eating protocol of grabbing a seat ordering at the counter and having the waitress deliver. Why do some Jersey places have to be complicated? The sandwiches were superb and huge. A half should suffice for most appetites. It would have been nice to wash it down with a beer but hey... I also did a take out of sable, the chunky whitefish salad and creamed herring. The herring was pretty standard, the sable ,while exorbitant, was delish, and the whitefish salad was the best I've had! Kibitz Room is a "locals" deli with decent sandwiches at a high price point. Stopped in last Sunday and ordered the half Turkey Reuben with a bag of chips. Service was fast, but definitely not the friendliest (the staff only mingled with the regulars and pretty much ignored me the whole time). I was surprised by how much a half sandwich cost ($12!). When I got home I was expecting to open the take-out box to a large sandwich, something along the lines of a hoagie or sub size. Unfortunately, the size did not match the price. It was a pretty tasty Reuben, but not the best I have ever had. There was only a little bit of sauerkraut and Russian dressing, and all of the turkey was falling out of the bread, so it was a pretty messy meal. I did appreciate the pickle bar though. Not sure if I will ever be back, but if friends or family request a Jewish deli in the area, I would probably recommend this place. read more

So I went here with friends because I am big fan of the 4th Street Deli in Philly and this place is much closer to where they live in Jersey so we mounted up and headed over. This is a pretty solid Jewish deli with your standard selection of fair. But I had my mind set on one thing in particular, the brisket on rye. It was also suggested to me that I need to get after those Latkes...no problem; I was on it as well. So we ordered up. My buddy and his wife told me there was a free pickle bar. That to me sounded preposterous. Who hands out free pickles? Do they not know the damage I could do to a pickle bar??? Low and behold, in the back right corner, there it was...a giant pickle bar playa!!! Oh man, this bar had all the good stuff. The sweet pickles, the spicy pickles, etc. they also had some cabbage concoctions. It was glorious......it was unbeatable. You know how you get a 5 star review; you add a freaking pickle bar to your restaurant. On to the sandwich. Of course the sandwich was huge and it was only a half. The brisket was pretty good, it was a little bit on the dry side for me but the slaw and mustard helped balance that out a bit. The latkes were dynamite. Fresh out the oil and hot. My cousin brought me here saying this is one of his favorite sandwich shops in the area because of their amazing pastrami and I've got to admit once again that I agree with him. I had their pastrami and corned beef sandwiches. Now, one sandwich is more than enough for one person so don't go thinking I ate two because that's normal or maybe I was starving. Yes, I was starving but I split my half of the sandwich with my cousin and he gave me half of his. So I had one sandwich. The pastrami was my favorite of the two but both are pretty amazing. The pastrami had so much flavor and it was very tender and juicy. The sandwich was topped with cole slaw which was a very nice touch. And the bread was a perfect compliment to the pastrami and corned beef. I've been to a lot of pastrami stops all over the country and this has to be one of the best ones I've been to. Now, one thing I did have a problem with was the lack of horse radish, or hot mustard there. They do have their own brand of mustard but none that will kick you between the teeth and have you asking for more. I really, really wished I could've had my sandwiches with a little kick. They also have a bakery if you so choose to indulge yourself even more after eating till your zipper pops. I would give this place 5 stars if I didn't have trouble getting someone behind the counter to pay attention to me for an unreasonable amount of time. There was a very in depth discussion of Jewish Deli's in NYC closing, that apparently took precedence over serving the 3 customers that were patiently awaiting service on the other side of the counter for 5 minutes (or more - not sure how long the other folks were waiting before I arrived). If you are aware of my other reviews - this normally would afford you 3 stars and no more but the food is absolutely TO DIE FOR. I have not had matzoh ball soup this good since my ex and I broke up. I went back to Kibitz Room and tried their hot pastrami special (slaw and Russian dressing). Delicious! I order a half, and it was huge. The meat was piled high, the slaw was terrific. I was wary of the Russian dressing because I don't usually use it, but since it is how the sandwich is "supposed" to be made I tried it and it worked great with the flavors. Next time I'll have to try this potato pancake that everyone has been talking about. There will definitely be a next time. read more

It's nothing to look at from the outside, but this place is a real gem you need to try. The corned beef sandwiches are the best I've ever had and the portions are huge. They have an area off to the side where you can fix your own sandwich up with things like cole slaw, pickles, etc... The staff aren't bad, but not particularly pleasant. This is my local place for deli delights when I am not in New York! Deli sandwhiches are the best and home made soups terrific, I especially like the cabbage soup, hot corned beef sandwhich or rueben sandwhich. I've never had anything bad here. Try it you will love it. Located in a corner of a strip mall so parking is difficult some days but worth the parking nightmare and crowds. Not sure what the hype is about. The sandwiches are not big. They simply put them on extremely small plates that can barely hold them. The corned beef is like rubber and the rye bread just crumbled to pieces leaving a tiny plate full of slop. Watch the workers as they prepare your food. They scratch their head, eat and lick their fingers, handle money and then prepare food. At the end- after charging a whopping $32.00 for two deli sandwiches, they ask you how it was. I replied, "Mediocre", but he wasn't even listening or looking at me. He really didn't care. In short, poor food, dirty and cheap atmosphere, poor service. For what it is this is a 5 star deli. Almost best in state (my boys at Hobby's in Newark still rule) and to be honest as a matter of consistency the pastrami is better than famed Katz's in nyc. Order took longer than most should because I was helping a my mother in-law , who is hard of hearing, place her order. Did not like to be greeted with someone yelling "did you order yet". You have to stand at the counter and hope someone sees you. Mom ordered a turkey club, it was 6 ins high on 3 slices of rye bread and not cut in half. Impossible to hold or bite into. Asked the not so friendly waitress if she could have it cut in half. Sandwich had to be taken apart so you could eat it. A turkey club is cut into quarters anywhere you go in the USA. It's rare someone complains about a sandwich being to big. I've lived in the neighborhood for about 8 years now and hadn't visited the Kibitz Room. My husband and I have been missing out! I decided to stop in today to grab 2 sandwiches to go. First of all, when I walked in, I could tell this place was the real deal. I felt like I was back in Philly again at a neighborhood deli that had been in business for 40+ years. The waitress who took my order was great, "WHACANIHELPYA WITH, SWEETIE?" :) Totally made me smile. Tables are stacked alongside each other cafeteria style which doesn't look that comfortable, BUT after trying their food, I really don't care. I'd come here and sit shoulder to shoulder with my neighbor for the delicious sandwiches these guys make! I had the turkey reuben (half - that's all you need... HUGE). My husband had the regular corned beef reuben. We were insta-fans after the first bite. On my next trip, I'll be trying their whitefish salad. Oh, and the lox in the display looked SO good. There is a free pickle bar with a wide selection of pickles. The sandwich came with a small side. I chose potato salad but it was a little too sweet for my taste. There is a service counter where you can purchase any of the menu items as take out. We ate in. Service was quick and courteous. My half sandwich came on rye bread. You add your own condiment. I chose their spicy brown mustard. I could not eat the sandwich all in one setting so I took half home. The decor is not fancy but is reminiscent of the kind of place you might find in New York City. READ THE MENU PRICES CAREFULLY! Food was delicious and portions were huge but 1/2 sandwich is $12.50, a whole sandwich is $15. I watched this woman yell at customers and staff for over 10 minutes on Yom Kippur, cursing and acting awful.
