Id like to start this review by mentioning that the store is definitely under new management. As previously this restaurant would be a 4.5. But times have changed and so have the food. We ordered 5 things, 2 rolls, one meh, the cherry blossom, one expectedly good, the crunch (reliability good across all locations unless something is seriously wrong) And finally one so bad that it was sent back after my father and I tried one, the Thomason. My father ordered the chicken katsu, one worthy mention is the oiliness of this along with it being significantly more bread than chicken. Gyozas (fried) were equally oily and the sauce being entirely unflavored, in favor of more oil. Finally ambiance, leading back to the first point, it's certainly new management, as previously, the ambience was immaculate, the staff were mostly Japanese, the songs were good, and while the seating was certainly cramped, it felt natural in a very Japanese way. Now the previously mentioned tight-quarters is quite glaring, as the music is the classic mix of pop and rock that fills places with no identity, the staff are mostly Mexican, and while I have nothing against that, its quite weird to be in a Japanese restaurant listening to Spanish. Unfortunately I am one who reviews only when something extremely interesting happens with the food and location, and the interesting happenstance at this restaurant is how much it is not worth your time or money anymore. read more

very teeny spot with cute decorations and ambiance, not too busy on a tuesday evening but i can see how it could get busy fast with only a few tables and bar seats. we made a reservation online. our server was helpful and attentive when needed. small selection of beers and sake. the food was awesome! my top two rolls were the santa paula roll and my sancha roll. the rolls were huge and the individual pieces were big too! great flavors and fresh fish! miso soup was decent, not my favorite ever. would happily go back and reccomend to anyone! the sashimi and nigiri options seemed a bit more vague on the menu/ mostly bundles of assorted fish options, but i'm sure they would give you whatever you request. we stuck to rolls so didnt encounter this as an issue. read more

Stumble upon this gem by accident around 8pm on a Wednesday night as the original restaurant I wanted to visit in the area closed their kitchen an hour early. I caught a peak of the Chirashi bowl while browsing pictures and knew that was exactly what I wanted. I really hoped I found a good sushi spot this time after 3 failures in Ventura and I was very pleasantly surprised. The Chirashi bowl was delicious! The salmon and the blue fin tuna was the most notable, and the biggest thing that they did well was the vinegar rice. It's hidden underneath all of the sashimi but definitely dig for it (there is more than enough amount) and have a well balanced sushi meal. The only thing I wish they did better was the server took my order and didn't get me water until she came back with my meal 10 minutes later and I had to ask. Then I realized that she might have been the one arranging the sushi at the back? I don't even know but I'll give it a pass. The sushi here is consistently good & fresh which keeps us coming back. Probably one of the best in Ventura. But the service... very very slow... We waited over a half an hour for our rolls & the restaurant wasn't even completely full. I don't know if the girl just didn't send our orders in right away or? The 2 stars are for fish freshness! Except the Japanese Scallops-VERY FISHY!! They're supposed to be sweet and buttery. The rest of our experience here was just awful! They are so under-staffed it's stupid!! One sushi guy powering thru a ton of orders! He's one of the owners and not at all welcoming to the customers who sit down at the sushi bar. The guy didn't even acknowledge us! We felt like a total inconvenience! And...WE WAITED AN HOUR for our food! An order of yellowtail, albacore, salmon and Japanese scallops! We wanted to order a roll and asked our waitress if we did, realistically how long are we looking at to get it and she said "a really long time" check please! Our server, as sweet as she was... she was so busy she zipped by us several times never asking if everything was ok or if we needed anything... it was always us stopping her to get another saki or extra napkins etc.... Watching other people seated after you, pay their bill, while you only have your beverage in front of you. While having to ask for beverage refill. We ordered their sushi throughout the pandemic. The food is always great. This is a small intimate restaurant with cool umbrella lighting. They have a huge fish tank. I'm pretty sure none of the sushi comes out of there:) The staff have always been pleasant and welcoming. We love the rice-free rolls... the Mike, the Rincon, and the Red Rose... they are delicious and guilt-free. The fryer is up front, so the cooked food smell kind of takes over the restaurant. It has never kept us from returning, though. The sushi has always been fresh and perfectly prepared. We come here or order take-out often. read more

NEW FAVORITE SUSHI SPOT OF MINE. After living in Ventura for a year now, I'm happy to have found them. Love the fact that they are at the intersection of Seaward and Main and easy to find. Parking can be located along seaward or you can find parking at the rear of the resteraunt by the alley way. We made reservations on Yelp for a Saturday and when we got in at 7pm, they were busy. We took this as a good sign and our server seated us right away and was extremely helpful. We decided to order the miso soup, a vegas roll, and a Asian beauty roll and it was all so good! Our food was out within 10-15 minutes of ordering so that was a good plus for us. Very fresh fish which was a huge plus and their flavors were very rich, subtle yet bold. Vegas roll was the star of the night for us, would have to rate that a 9/10. The Asian beauty roll would have to rate a 8 out of 10. Overall, we can't wait to come back and try other items. Finally came to Seaward Sushi after having it on my list for a good while and I'm glad to have discovered this quaint little spot. There are two sides to the restaurant and both are very limited in seating so it is good to make sure there is space beforehand. There are a few parking spots in the alley behind the restaurant which is great to have. The decor on the ceiling is beautifully decorated with fans and there is a large aquarium in the front window which is fun to look at if you grab the table right next to it. The server was very friendly but the wait was very slow, even though there were only two other parties seated at the time. However I believe they only had one sushi chef working and the presentations were beautiful - you could tell he truly took his time on each plate that went out and the fish itself was incredibly fresh and delicious. Really great sushi spot. The sushi tastes super fresh and melts in your mouth. They have rotating specials on their menu board in addition to normal menu items. My favorite is the Cruz roll. Lunch bento box is insane, it came with SO much food. Rice, miso soup, choice of protein, CA roll (or spicy tuna!), tempura, an egg roll, AND gyoza. I've been here maybe 4-5x, only one time for dine in. My dine in experience was nice and leisurely, my friends and I enjoyed beer and sake while our food was prepared. Stop by when you have time to enjoy your dinner but not if you're in a huge rush. My takeout orders were placed during the weekend for early dinner or weekday lunch specials and the wait time ranged anywhere from 20-30 minutes. Incredibly fresh sushi. This is a rare find if you are a true sushi lover. We have eaten here a lot and they never disappoint. Our favorites are the dynamite appetizer, the Loren Roll, and the Rose Roll. I highly recommend eating here if you want amazing combination flavors that highlight the taste of the fish. Y'all I'm going to be honest with you. Even if the food was trash (which it wasn't at all), I would still give this place a five star review because the service was that good. Carolina was our server, and she was the sweetest, warmest, and most helpful and attentive. We got the jalapeño tempura roll as an appetizer. The Cruz roll and the lobster roll for our main dishes. And my husband got two of the salmon skin hand rolls as well. Everything was so good and so fresh. Carolina gave us time estimates when we ordered, so we knew that both the lobster roll and the salmon skin was going to take a little bit of time (15-20 mins). Every roll was great, and I would definitely order any of them again. My husband and I are not huge fans of lobster, so we would probably try another one with a different type of seafood, but if you do enjoy it, it was really well balanced. Based on the Yelp reviews for this place, I decided to give it a try for lunch takeout. They actually have a pretty good lunch menu with specials. I ordered a few of the house rolls which were $4.50. The sushi rolls tasted fresh and had a nice balance between the avocado and the rest of the ingredients. I always hate when I get huge chunks of avocado and small slithers of everything else. Not only is the price right but you get a lot of food. They also have bento boxes and $2 off special rolls for their lunch menu. Based on the value and freshness of the food, I'll be back! When it comes to sushi, it's hard to find a place that has good quality and decent prices (I'm certainly willing to pay for good quality). This was my first time here and the amount of options they have for rolls is crazy! My friend ordered the Main st. Roll which had a little bit of spice to it but was delicious. I ordered the ichiban roll and surfers roll (i think). The surfers roll had mango and avocado in it which gave it a sweet taste and I loved it. I would definitely order it again, we didn't get a picture because we ate it so quickly. Its a small place but a beautiful aquarium in the window. My partner and I came here per recommendation from a good friend. Right off the bat, the server with brown hair I believe her name is Kareli, gave the absolute best service I've received (coming from a former server.) The only issue I've had here is my second visit. Kareli had served us first and I'm service was good until the blonde server switched in at the end of our meal. I had literally JUST finished my last bite (still basically chewing,) and she had the audacity to ask us "are we done or are we just like.. hanging out now?" In a word ... DONT!!! Where to start .... On entering the VERY tired and just clean enough to pass dining room we're thrust into a noisy atmosphere with lots of banging that shouldn't be associated with a sushi place and the smell of burning food. We sat down and found an extensive menu that screamed average. Ordering within 10 minutes of arrival we were then relegated to wait, wait, and wait some more. At the 45 minute mark I finally stopped the server to ask about the order and was told she couldn't say when. 10 minutes later, at the 55 minute mark the spicy tuna on crispy rice arrived. The crispy rice had the smell of burnt popcorn and the taste of many things that must have preceded it in the fryer. The thin smear of spicy tuna only tasted of the siracha, not tuna which may have been for the best. Over the next 20 minutes more food arrived. The fish wasn't fresh looking or tasting. It smelled fishy and was very off in color. Certainly NOT what you would want and seamingly cut by a dull bread knife into small slabs rather than delicate slices, each dish got progressively worse. It got to the point that we were worried and cancelled the remaining part of the order. Poor service and cooks with less finesse than a lumberjack.Speak with your spending and speak to anyone / anywhere else. read more

The waitress was very accommodating. I called to see if they didn't mind me coming in at 145 and they stayed open fifteen after just to be nice. The waitress also accommodated my friends son who was on the spectrum. 5 stars for that. The fish is fresh that's why I go here. Saw the review on prices and the menu and all I have to say is sushi is never cheap so if you're going to be cheap don't eat sushi. I ate a ton and was pleased with price.
