    Kar dance competition 2025

I have been at kick it up for 3 years and have loved it from the beginning. All the teachers and students are really nice, it is really easy to make friends with people there. I have also been on their competition team for 2 years, and have had so much fun hanging out with friends + competing with/against them. Recitals are also extremely fun to watch and dance with your friends.

Isabel is ahhhmazing! This is my 4th time taking a Zumba class in general but first time with her and she killed it! I had a great dance off lol - Got my whole body pumping and sweating :)

My daughters have been coming to Kick It Up for a little over 2 years and love the coaches, friends and dances they learn. They are both members of the competition team and love the experiences of competing.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my review. I have included screenshots as reference to my receipt as well as my call to the studio. Thank you again.

Kick it up is our second home. It's a great dance studio, teachers are amazing, the staff very friendly, the owner Susan is very sweet. My daughter has been taking classes for almost 6 years , since she was 3, and see her growing as a dancer makes me so proud of her. Can't wait to see her competing on the Dance team!

The start of the season vs the end of the season.

Our experience at Kick It Up has only gotten better. It has literally changed our lives. Advice for future dance moms: Choose your community well. Tomorrow we will attend the team banquet with our dance family for our 3rd year. This group is truly special. We are not an exclusive clique of best friends- we even have our fair share of drama- we are together to support and empower our children. We follow our beloved Miss Susan in creating a positive and accepting community. #wearekickitup #waymorethanjustdanceclasses

These machines are great, very popular and everyone who pays extra wants this item and this item only. Nothing else..... nobody wants to wrap their legs in gigantic compression boots.... But yet they have 4 of these machines. They never break because nobody uses them. Everyone pays for the hydro therapy but yet they only have 2 of them and 1 is always broken.... The reason, is because this is all people want out of the recovery room. But yet 1 of the Hydro machines is always broken, never fixed . instead of using membership fees to buy a new one they rely on a repair man who never shows up, and when he does, only has it fixed for a day. What's the point of having a recovery studio if the only thing people want, (HYDRO THERAPY) is never available? 2.) everyone likes to use the stair masters. It's popular now, nobody really uses elliptical's, except older people who can't be hard on their bodies. So what does Chuze do???? They have 17 ellipticals which only ever 3 are being used and 6 stair masters of which one is always broken and all 5 are always in use. A manager with his finger on the pulse of his building should see this, and rotate out unused equipment and replacing it with what's needed more of,..... like the stair masters there's always a wait for.... For months now. This should be the nicest gym out there.... That's why I joined. They are busy with members.... where is all the money going?

Here's my experience over the last year: The studio holds annual parties and get-togethers for all ages. There are many families who participate, even adult students like myself. There are also adult specific events (karaoke, bowling, etc). Grandmaster Park fosters a sense of family community within the studio making everyone feel welcome! Testing opportunities typically occur every two months with specific requirements to qualify for testing. There is a unique system in place to keep us on track and prepare for testing. Our Masters and instructors work hard to make sure we understand what is required. Regular emails and announcements are made on an easily accessible group app, "Band". Fees are dependent on how often we want to attend and affect our ability to advance every two months or so since a certain amount of classes are required to be eligible to test. Grand Master Park provided clear information about the fees process and made sure I understood and got a copy of the policies around payment during enrollment (I took a picture of the paperwork to keep for my records). I'm not sure why others have had different expectations but I personally have had an adequate experience dealing with the financial side of the studio. This is the largest studio in America and GM seems to run a tight ship, which I think is fair. Our Masters and Instructors have different teaching styles and bring different strengths to each class. But they all push you to be your best self by instilling values and knowledge to help you succeed, and make themselves available if you have questions or need help. They offer private lessons too. They teach us that Taekwondo is more than just a sport, it is a lifestyle of self-discipline, trying our best and respecting others - a great approach to life as a kid or adult. And they make sure to have fun too! I joined the studio because I practiced taekwondo in middle school for a short period and wanted to get into regular exercise as a 40 year old acutely aware of the coming years of aging! Every class is different and there are so many things to learn that I'm never bored with what I'm practicing (poomsae, kicking, sparring, conditioning etc). The Instructors regularly incorporate new drills while reinforcing focus on fundamentals. Our Grand Master has run his Taekwondo studio for 38 years, was a US National and Olympic Taekwondo Coach, and holds a record 14 champion titles in Korea from a robust sparring career! He is a huge advocate for health, wellness, self discipline and creating happiness, and encourages us to take care of ourselves, have fun and work hard. I attended the annual Korea Training Academy trip in July 2024 and it was AMAZING. Master Park coordinates with the Korean government who hosts the international academy to give us an opportunity to train where Taekwondo originated! Familes and adult students are all welcome to sign up. He also adds tours specific to our group to see other parts of South Korea while we are there. He has been doing this for going on 20 years!! Overall I'm extremely happy with my experience at the US Taekwondo Academy. I didn't realize how personally this sport and community would affect my life and health. And I've made new friends! I'm always working towards a new goal and feel I have great support from the masters, instructors and other students. I'm so impressed when I see young students work hard and discipline themselves. You get what you put into this, and there is plenty of opportunity for anyone to put in the hard work and focus to feel good about themselves and have fun! I'd definitely recommend this studio!

This post is in response to Christina P's 11/2025 review…read more I am a studio parent who was present for this "final incident" referenced by Christina P. and whose child was directly involved, I felt it was important to add some context because I feel this parent's comments are retaliatory. The initial poster failed to include details of what happened. The children had been participating in a relay race followed by a pizza party. This poster's child was frustrated because my son, who is still developing his gross motor skills, was not fast enough for her and she felt he caused their relay team to lose. In response, she had a meltdown and threw pizza at my child's face. She is a sweet girl and I understand that children have big feelings at this age, but it's also true that actions have consequences. She did not apologize to him afterward, and in Taekwondo, integrity and respect are core values we take very seriously. This academy is first and foremost a discipline-based martial arts center, not a daycare, play gym, or therapy environment. The expectations for behavior, emotional regulation, and respect are part of the reason many of us choose this school. We want our children to learn structure, resilience, responsibility, and how to manage disappointments in safe and appropriate ways. Master Cynthia handled the situation exactly the way an experienced martial arts instructor should. She calmly removed the child from the group, asked her to sit with her parent, and invited her to return when calm. Poster's child was never left to cry alone. This is simply not true. With 10-15 young children in the room and food being served, this was the safest and most reasonable response. It is not the instructor's job to provide emotional counseling during class, and in a martial arts environment, stepping out to reset is a normal, age-appropriate boundary. I also want to speak to the comment about the school not being a "safe place." I have never once felt unsafe bringing my child here -- actually, the opposite is true. This academy has been one of the most positive, consistent, and community-oriented places in my son's life. We have students at the studio who began at age 3 or 4 and are now teenagers with black belts. I am incredibly proud to watch these kids grow into disciplined leaders in their schools and communities. Children are raised here. Families stay for years. That doesn't happen in a place that is unsafe or neglectful. Master Cynthia is a fifth-degree black belt who has spent over 30 years teaching children. She is firm, fair, and exceptional with young students. She sets boundaries with love, holds kids accountable, and teaches them values that matter: integrity, respect, self-control, and responsibility for their actions. These are qualities I want in the person teaching my child martial arts. The children absolutely love her and she has been an incredible influence in my young child's life as well as many of the other kids at our studio. I am sorry this family had a difficult moment. But from a fellow parent who witnessed the incident and whose child was affected, I feel strongly that this review does not reflect the reality of what happened, nor does it reflect the culture, safety, or professionalism of this school. Our experience here has been overwhelmingly positive, and I would recommend this academy without hesitation.

Soon after, she invited 3 of her school friends, who also attended Newcomb Academy to join the class. After the first year's recital they all decided to continue Hip Hop, additionally adding a Jazz class. Before I continue with this review, I must confirm we have had no issues with her dance instructor "Miss Emily." Emily was always kind, patient, fun and well equipped to instruct multiple dancers ranging in ages 7-9 years old. My daughter and her friends adored Emily and were very sad to leave her class. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago we had a very unprofessional, shocking incident occur with Leslie, one of the owners. When I picked my daughter up after class, I noticed that one of the dancers in her class was crying uncontrollably. Another mom from class was trying to comfort the girl while she waited for her mother. I walked over to see if I could be any assistance, but she was crying so badly she was unable to speak and tell me what occurred. Soon after my daughter and one of her friends who was trying the class to possibly join had no problem telling me what occurred. They let me know that while Miss Emily was changing the studio music Leslie took it upon herself to walk over to the classroom and reprimand, and yell at the class, and call out the student in tears for standing behind the studio barre. She screamed at the little girl to come over to her, sternly yelled in her face that she was "disrespectful, breaking the rules by standing behind the barre. She demanded that the little girl apologize to her. Additionally, she told the class "This was her studio, if they weren't going to listen, she would cancel the class, and they were all disrespectful." This resulted in the little girl running to the restroom, locking herself in the bathroom and crying for the remainder of the class. My daughter let me know that you could hear this little girl crying in the bathroom through the music the remainder of the class. Sadly, my daughter said Miss Emily, who was trying to comfort the little girl told her "Don't worry, Miss Leslie has made me cry before too." My daughter and her friends told me they feared the "old, mean lady" and felt so bad for their dance friend. Yelling at a child is NEVER acceptable, especially in a business setting. I have never once gotten complaints from Miss Emily, Leslie, or any of the other owners that this class had disciplinary problems or any other issues for that matter. Why Leslie thought it was ok to yell at the class, with empty threats and aggressive behavior I will never understand. Another mother that was present at pick-up admitted that she has seen Leslie yell at staff and dancers 2x prior to this incident. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! It's clear to me that Leslie has been getting away with abusive behavior for YEARS. I am truly disappointed that her behavior has been overlooked for so long. I started to re-read older Yelp reviews and realized she has several negative reviews. I am so sad I didn't investigate reviews further before taking my daughter and asking multiple friends of hers to join this studio. When I wrote the studio to let them know I would be canceling classes due to this incident and that I wanted a refund on my recital costume they responded with "Your check is in the mail." There was no apology, no explanation, nothing. We were clearly just a number to the studios pocket-book. Myself, and 4 other families have taken our children out of this school due to this incident. I would not recommend this studio! If you are ok with the potential of your child being screamed at or embarrassed in front of a class, this would be a great studio for you. It only took one incident for me to know this type of behavior is not ok. I really hope Emily realizes she doesn't need to put up with this type of abusive behavior and finds another studio to share her talent with.i
