I had my first ever kolache here. I was only able to try the hot link one, but it was delicious! The perfect amount of spicy and savory from the hot link bits, the jalapeño pieces, and the cheddar cheese complements so well with the slightly sweet, soft bread. In addition to the kolaches, they had a variety of drinks. I will be trying one of the cane sugar sodas next time. The interior of the store had a clean and modern vibe to it. We were in the area and stopped yesterday right after closing time. The place was still open and they only had two kolaches left. I had never had one before, but was hankering for something sweet since I had already had lunch. Luckily for me, the only two left were sweet. We ordered one of them and the owner took time to explain what the Kolaches were, and what his philosophy was. He was so nice, and gave us the other kolache for free since it was his last one. These kolaches are sooo good!! I've been craving a kolache since moving to west LA and I'm so glad I came across this new store. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the owner with a huge smile and hello. The store just opened 2 months ago so they are still going through a soft opening. Depending on when you arrive they may not have all the flavors on the menu so arrive early! I arrived around 9:30am (they open at 8am) and they were sold out of everything except for the hot link and beef brisket. I wish they had little sample pieces of all the flavors to try. The owner did offer to replace the flavor I ordered if I ended up not liking it. I ordered the hot link and WOW YUMMY! The bun is soft and sweet, it tastes just like the honey butter from Texas Roadhouse. It has chunks of sausage with bits of jalapeno. I'm sensitive to spice and it had just the right amount of spice. It comes with a side of sweet pickles if you want but I didn't need them. The store is on the first floor of the mall and there is plenty of free garage parking. Swung by for a treat that you rarely find outside of Texas. Still under a soft opening but the owner walked us through the current and 'coming soon' options. I tried the ham & cheese and the sausage & Jalapeño. Dough was soft and the fillings were savory. I'm not an expert but these were really good. My friends also tried the pizza and raved about it. A kolache is a pastry brought to rural Texas by Czech settlers in the mid- to late-1800s. In Texas, some of the best kolaches can found in family-owned bakeries in small towns with a strong Czech heritage. We first tried Kickin' Kolaches a couple weeks ago and have gone back several times since. The kolaches are filling, yet don't feel overly heavy. And the prices are really reasonable for the hill. We've liked all the types we've tried so far, but my favorites are pizza and ham & cheese. The iced coffee is also awesome--while I usually skip iced coffee because it can be too bitter and overpowering, the iced coffee here is smooth and easy to drink. My husband and I have been eyeing this spot for a while. With being half Czech, anything kolache catches my eye! My husband is into smoking meats, so this is the perfect spot for us. Kolache dough with texas style fillings! We went to the mall and were excited to see it was open! We met Robert, the owner and had a great chat with him. He was already sold out for the day, however, he had a sample that he let us try. We also got a coffee and one of the sodas. The kolache we tried was delicious, you could tell that he makes the dough from scratch and there's a lot of love put into it, organic flour too! The coffee was amazing. It was a clean and crisp tasting, high flavor, medium roast that does not need a lot of cream or sugar. It is also organic which is a huge plus, as we prefer to only drink organic beans. The soda selection is non-gmo and organic cane sugar, with tons of great and interesting flavors. We were sold on the clean drinks alone! Robert explained to us that his kolaches will be a Texas style of kolache, savory and meat! He does have sweet options too! He is only soft opened right now but hopes to be fully opened by August. I have to start off by saying that the owner is AMAZING! He was so welcoming and took the time to explain the history of kolaches to us since it was our first time there. I've lived in Texas before and let me tell you, these are definitely Texas style kolaches! We made the drive all the way from Glendale, and it was 100% worth it!!! I never heard of Kolaches before. When I saw this shop open, I was intrigued. The shop is a nice size for pick up dining. It is clean and fresh. The owner gave us a little history of kolaches. We ordered 3. The Kolaches have an outer pastry dough that was slightly sweet, moist and pillowy. The inside was savory, delicious, and filling. They were so good! We will definitely be back. By the way, the ice coffee is also great. It is earthy and well balanced. It pairs well with any of the kolaches. A tip: order ahead of time. Soft opening: the hot link kolache is absolutely incredible. Dough is fluffy, slightly sweet, not dense at all. Filling is rich, little heat, very comforting. The side of pickle helps to cut the fat. Native Texan here. I grew up eating kolaches. Both cheap donut store kolaches and more traditional ones. I had two sweet cream cheese and two of the hot link ones. The dough tastes very fresh, and has that high quality yeasty flavor and chew. The hot link is a dead ringer for the classic Texas jalapeño & cheese kolache. Only difference is the hot link is chopped into smaller pieces but the taste of the filling and taste & texture of the dough is spot on. The cream cheese was great as well, but rather than the more danish style commonly found in Texas. More of an enclosed bun type shape like a typical savory kolache. Having seen the "coming soon" store sign for a while, I was so happy to see that it finally opened. Owner Robert is friendly, knowledgeable and creative. He shared a great story/history of Kolaches because i had not heard kolaches before. I've been here twice and both times the food was delicious. I love that it's a great snack and light meal. The pizza was delicious--liked being able to satisfy my pizza craving with great flavor and quality ingredients. Felt full and happy. He uses a lot of organic ingredients and the dough consistency is perfect. You can tell that Robert is very intentional about quality and taste. It reminds me of the bao dough but with more chewiness which is nice. I got the hot honey dip on the side and that is good, but I didn't need it. Today I had the pull pork with the pickles on the side and that was delicious too. The blueberry cream cheese Kolache is a great dessert option too. Robert - I'm dubbing him "The Kolache Guy" - is passionate about kolaches. He told me that he traveled to Texas to learn how to make them - and tried so many of the classics kolache stops! Today was my first (there will be more) stop by Kickin' Kolaches. I tried the Everything Bagel and Sweet Cream. The dough was perfectly soft and the exact amount of sweetness as a classic Texas kolache. The sweet cream was delicious - not overpowering sweetness and just right. The Everything Bagel, however, may be my new favorite (I'm a long-time fan of ham and cheese!). The mix of sweet and savory was perfectly on point.
