Was visiting SD and a friend (who really knows food) recommended Kiko's Place (other location) but I was staying close to downtown so decided to check out this location instead. Do not be deterred by the exterior or any of the happenings nearby (it seemed a tad rough) but once you get inside, you will be met with the nicest/friendliest service and great food! They have daily specials which are a great value. I was there on a Tuesday so opted for the Tuesday special (1 taco and 1 ceviche) for $9.99 which is a wild deal! Portions were generous! I loved both items - super fresh and perfectly cooked fish in the taco. I had ceviche on this same trip at a way nicer place and it was more expensive and not ad impressive. This ceviche at Kiko's had the right amount of acidity and was not OVERLY acidic which I appreciated. The avocado adds a nice creaminess to counter the acid and the chips were the perfect vessel for the pieces of fish. Will definitely come back the next time I'm in town! read more

As much as I really want to give this place a great review because their seafood from the food truck is amazing, I was pretty disappointed with the sit-down restaurant experience. First off, when we ordered, we got our food before our drinks. We ordered micheladas, and after waiting a long time we had to ask what was going on. We were simply told "it's coming." It ended up taking almost 40 minutes, so we gave up and ordered basic beers instead just so we could start eating. The frustrating part is the restaurant was practically empty, so the long wait didn't make sense. The food itself was good, but the service didn't match, and the surrounding area also had a lot of homeless activity which took away from the experience. On top of that, the salsa bar wasn't kept clean and they were out of some of their best items, like the pickled red onions. It didn't seem like anyone was checking or restocking it, even though the staff didn't appear busy. Overall, it was disappointing compared to what I expected based on the food truck. read more

I've been a long time supporter of this refund since they opened the doors. But no longer. The former owner and his sister who built this business are wonderful people. The food is good. The chef at the C st. Location is very competent. I've been informed that there is a new owner and the new employee behind the counter is rude, arrogant, argumentative and hostile. I am a long-time frequent customer, and today when I came in for lunch, very well dressed, not looking like the homeless outside on the sidewalk..... (I am disabled )...when I put my cane and hat on the table and said I was going to go to the bathroom and she rudely told me I couldn't go to the restroom. That it was for customers only. I went to the bathroom (urgently) and when I came out and asked her why she was rude all she wanted to was arrogantly argue with me, telling me she was just doing her job.... I told her that I would talk to the owner. They would never allow a counter clerk to be rude to customers. She even argued with me about that I will never come back to the restaurant as long as she is there, and you shouldn't either. She is evil and hateful. This used to be a great restaurant. I don't write many reviews but this place deserves it. The service was excellent. The staff were so friendly and thoughtful. The food was excellent as well. I got the ceviche and a fish taco, their Special of the Day. The ceviche was fresh, flavorful served on two fried corn tortillas with a side of cucumber, yummy:-). The fish taco was delicious as well. An ample piece of fish fried in a light batter, yum, yum! Honestly the portions were so big I had another meal for $9. I've had Kiko's food truck bookmarked and never gotten the chance to check it out, but I didn't realize they had a brick and mortar shop as well! We happened to be in the area and decided to check them out for some Taco Tuesday deals. We each got the 3 OG Fish Taco deal and ordered an extra Fish ceviche to split. Each of us also received a complimentary cup of fish soup with our order. The fish tacos were tasty and perfectly battered, and the ceviche was fresh with just the right amount of acidity. Even the fish soup looked basic but was super packed with flavor! I did notice though that the regular prices seemed high for the amount of food we got; I'd probably return only for the Tuesday deals, but not sure I'd pay the normal full price on other days. The place is small, with only a handful of indoor and outdoor tables. Located downtown so of course parking will be an issue, so I don't see myself coming back often unless I'm already in the area. But maybe I'll need to check out their food truck in Mission Valley sometime! read more

We stopped here for dinner on a Saturday night, The restaurant is quite small with only about 4 tables and a counter top to watch the chef, but wow, this small place packs a big punch in terms of quality and flavor. I think the main theme is seafood inspired tacos and ceviche. We did not try to ceviche, but my two tacos were outstanding. I got one shrimp and one garlic shrimp. Each came in corn tortillas and had a very generous portion of fresh shrimp (deveined). Both were delicious and the flavors came together very well. I saw some unusual offerings such as smoked fish tacos and octopus tacos. There is a condiment station with homemade salsas: red (very hot), verde (not so hot and very flavorful) and orange which I did not try. There was also pickled purple onions. They have cold beers including Modelo negra and regular, plus a couple of others. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion size. The ambience made us feel like we were in a taco joint in Mexico. I am not sure we will have time to return, but I would be happy to do so. read more

I felt like I stumbled upon hidden treasure eating here. Browsed the forums and saw that Kiko's got recommended a bunch for fish tacos. I saw that there was a location downtown around the corner from my hotel and decided to have it for lunch before heading over to Petco Park. Friendly cashier, super chill chef slangin tacos within a few feet of you, limited tables, and a small but tidy sauce bar. Without exaggeration, it's by far the best fish tacos I've ever had in my near-30 years of life. Batter was seasoned and fried perfectly, they use a delicious white seabass for their fish, the tortillas were the most perfect texture, just the right amount of veg and sauce. I had the special of the day which was an OG fish taco and a fish ceviche for $12.99. I also ordered the fried shrimp taco, the spicy octopus taco, a cold modelo, and some free soup as I waited. For roughly $40, I was full, drunk, and happy at noon. I'd go more in depth but everything was perfect. From flavor and texture to temperature and portioning. 5/5, no notes. Will be a must stop for me if I find myself downtown again. Note, this place was so good I checked out the food truck location off Mission Valley/Hazard Center a few days after. I prefer mine to be more crunchy and has a small bowl of soup dip, however this place doesn't offer it. They do offer seafood soup for everyone as an appetizer though. Very tasty yet not fishy. Kiko's hasn't failed me with their delicious fish tacos. I use to eat them from the food truck in North Park. This time, I visited the storefront in downtown SD. The employees are very nice pointed out to me that they had a deal for two OG fish tacos and beer ($10). That's my kind of deal and I scarfed it down immediately. The fish was fried to perfection and there's an equal balance of fish, slaw, and tortilla. There's also a self serve salsa bar with jalapenos. Saw them and I tried them before when they only had a Food truck in Mission Valley . I was surprised to see today that they have a restaurant now in Dowtown . Its wasn't that big or in an upscale location but the foods are amazing here . Good serving portions , lots of spices to choose from, and creative flavorings . I had seen them on Tv too , one of the chanel my wife was watching I saw their food got featured on tv . So far I tried their CRAZY CEVICE and TACO the SAN FELIPE TACO . And MINERAL WATER for our drink coz they dont have regular water bottles . There's so much flavor going on in my mouth, delicious ! Their CRAZY CEVICHE is a real crazy its has Octopus , Shrimps , mussels , Oyster , scallop , fish , its really loaded . Their SAN FELIPE Taco ( seafood ) are loaded too and delicious . Service from Annia was excellent and very friendly . Parking is kinda hard to find and a lot of people around sitting on the streets , so I suggest go when its day time or while the sun is still up. My coworker and I went there on Monday. The food was so good we took a couple more coworkers with us and went back on Tuesday. We had the daily specials, which seem to offer the most bang for your buck, as they were very reasonably priced both days. We had OG fish tacos, shrimp tacos, and fish ceviche. Everything was tasty and fresh. The staff was very nice and the girl at the register Candy remembered our names. Kiko's is a one of the best options for mariscos in downtown. The prices tend to be fair for the area and a really good deal for the amount of flavor. The camarones a la diabla are good, as well as their fish tacos. The food does tend to take a little long but it always comes out hot, so you know they just made it. If this place is good, I wonder how much better their taco truck is. Make sure to wear your glasses to read the menu - hard to see at the distance from the counter. read more
