3 OG Fish Tacos, Fish Ceviche, Complimentary Fish Soup
    Christine Z.

I've had Kiko's food truck bookmarked and never gotten the chance to check it out, but I didn't realize they had a brick and mortar shop as well! We happened to be in the area and decided to check them out for some Taco Tuesday deals. We each got the 3 OG Fish Taco deal and ordered an extra Fish ceviche to split. Each of us also received a complimentary cup of fish soup with our order. The fish tacos were tasty and perfectly battered, and the ceviche was fresh with just the right amount of acidity. Even the fish soup looked basic but was super packed with flavor! I did notice though that the regular prices seemed high for the amount of food we got; I'd probably return only for the Tuesday deals, but not sure I'd pay the normal full price on other days. The place is small, with only a handful of indoor and outdoor tables. Located downtown so of course parking will be an issue, so I don't see myself coming back often unless I'm already in the area. But maybe I'll need to check out their food truck in Mission Valley sometime!

Craving authentic, crunchy and flavorful Fish Tacos? Kiko's place definitely hits the spot! The fish tasted fresh and the batter was flavorful along with all of the fixings and sauces. We were greeted with a side of complimentary Shrimp Consomé and it was 10/10 delicious! I was blown away with the amount of flavor packed into the broth! They also provide pickled onions which were delicious and added an extra crunch to the tacos! I can't wait to return again.

We stopped here for dinner on a Saturday night, The restaurant is quite small with only about 4 tables and a counter top to watch the chef, but wow, this small place packs a big punch in terms of quality and flavor. I think the main theme is seafood inspired tacos and ceviche. We did not try to ceviche, but my two tacos were outstanding. I got one shrimp and one garlic shrimp. Each came in corn tortillas and had a very generous portion of fresh shrimp (deveined). Both were delicious and the flavors came together very well. I saw some unusual offerings such as smoked fish tacos and octopus tacos. There is a condiment station with homemade salsas: red (very hot), verde (not so hot and very flavorful) and orange which I did not try. There was also pickled purple onions. They have cold beers including Modelo negra and regular, plus a couple of others. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion size. The ambience made us feel like we were in a taco joint in Mexico. I am not sure we will have time to return, but I would be happy to do so.

I felt like I stumbled upon hidden treasure eating here. Browsed the forums and saw that Kiko's got recommended a bunch for fish tacos. I saw that there was a location downtown around the corner from my hotel and decided to have it for lunch before heading over to Petco Park. Friendly cashier, super chill chef slangin tacos within a few feet of you, limited tables, and a small but tidy sauce bar. Without exaggeration, it's by far the best fish tacos I've ever had in my near-30 years of life. Batter was seasoned and fried perfectly, they use a delicious white seabass for their fish, the tortillas were the most perfect texture, just the right amount of veg and sauce. I had the special of the day which was an OG fish taco and a fish ceviche for $12.99. I also ordered the fried shrimp taco, the spicy octopus taco, a cold modelo, and some free soup as I waited. For roughly $40, I was full, drunk, and happy at noon. I'd go more in depth but everything was perfect. From flavor and texture to temperature and portioning. 5/5, no notes. Will be a must stop for me if I find myself downtown again. Note, this place was so good I checked out the food truck location off Mission Valley/Hazard Center a few days after. This place was better. Better service, better fish, better batter, better everything. This is the spot. Stop reading and go get some tacos, cabrón!

Some of the best fish tacos I have ever had!!! These tacos are very fresh. And it doesn't hurt that everyone there is so friendly. Highly recommend! Also my picture was taken after I finished one of the tacos and chips lol. Highly recommend the orange sauce with these and the consome they give you is delicious!

The best place for OG fish tacos, seafood and micheladas, tried the fish and shrimp tacos, also the aguachile, the best I've had in SD, great portions, will definitely be coming back to try more of their menu:) The place has great environment, love the music, the art and they have great customer service, a must when in SD!

Wow how have I been sleeping on this place?! The daily specials are where it's at, I got a fish taco and a shrimp taco today for $8.99 and they were huge! There's 2 little tables to eat there, and even though I had gotten mine to go, I opened the box and immediately changed my mind and had to scarf them down while they were hot and crispy. Stoked to try the ceviche and cocteles next!

Food was delicious, outside seating was lovely and shady, if we lived here we would come back! I had the OG special (2 Baja style fish tacos) with a Jamaica water and my husband had the Krazy ceviche (nearly enough to feed 2). The modelo were cold (no corona)

The best spot for seafood tacos in SD. Great service, and with specials every day featuring every kind of fish and shrimp taco imaginable. Taco orders also come with a cup of amazingly flavorful consome. Clean environment with plenty of seating. Haven't had a bad experience with them!

Great little Mexican restaurant with fresh seafood ceviche and amazing fish tacos. Birria taco is quite tasty too. I prefer mine to be more crunchy and has a small bowl of soup dip, however this place doesn't offer it. They do offer seafood soup for everyone as an appetizer though. Very tasty yet not fishy. They also make really good Hibiscus drink. Yum!!! They have a salsa bar that you can get your own salsa as well which I love. Limited indoor sitting but they have a few tables available outside too! Perfect to use on a nice warm day. Unfortunately, you can get hit pretty bad with the sun around 4-5pm :-(

What a cool place. Had two spicy grilled shrimp tacos and the shrimp ceviche. Presentation of the ceviche was incredible. Taste was good. Would like more citrus flavor but over all really good. The spicy shrimp tacos were awesome. Not to spicy but nice heat and flavor for days. Love the fact that only corn tortillas were served. Only way to eat soft tacos!!!! Really good flavor and awesome service!!!

I've only had grilled fish and shrimp tacos at Kiko's and I'm a huge fan. The tacos are huge thus 2-3 is plenty for a meal. Thue also give you an interesting seafood soup while you wait. The wait is never too long and the service is friendly. The truck is always located at the same corner spot listed on their site. I wish they would stay open a bit later than 7 pm is my only desired change.

Flavor. Flavor. FLAVOR. Rich, salty, savory, fresh--every bite hit. Came here for my birthday dinner from Vegas (after the Zoo all day!) and wow... we started with the green cucumber drink and were immediately shocked by how bold and refreshing the flavor was. Then the food came out--to die for. Absolute must-stop. Everything was

Please see the verdict below... Food: the most important part of a review is how does the food taste!? Well ladies and gents, Tacos El Gordos tacos are exceptionally underwhelming. Based solely on the reputation TEG has, you would imagine their tacos to be a step above the rest in at least flavor, texture, or some culinary dimension. Either way, these tacos were very normal. Are they bad? No not at all! Are they worth the hype? No not at all! Very just fine, spectacularly normal. Exceedingly eh-its-alright type of vibes lol. We got a huge mix of tacos with all different types of proteins and toppings. YET, you couldn't tell much of the difference between many of them with how one dimensional they all are. As someone who typically enjoys Tacos for their unique flavors per type and protein, this was a bit of a disappointment. Some of the meats were dry, flavors were muted, and all around I walked away with a solid "meh". It'll hit a drunk taco itch sure. But it's not earning the 4 stars yelp has it at right now. Service: This is a clearly fast paced type of restaurant so don't expect overly friendly or talkative staff, which we didn't mind. You should only line up once you know what you want, otherwise everyone is going to be mad at you for holding the line, from the staff to the fellow patrons! Otherwise, service is as expected for a in and out type of institution that TEG is. Ambiance: it's in the heart of Gaslamp where all the clubs, bars, cigarette smoke, and sweaty partygoers mix and mingle their influences. Come here for food after sweating your ass off from dancing and the warmth of alcohol, not for a date or family really. Great for a friends night out! Overall 3/5 it's fine, I wouldn't go again as I'm not partial to the area. But I can see why you would like it post-club!

There were a couple of groups dining in and someone picking up a to-go order, but there was still plenty of seating available. The employee working the counter was friendly. They also serve alcohol, and during my visit drinks were 20% off. Options included Pacifico, Modelo, Blue Moon, hard seltzers, and a selection of canned craft beers. I ordered: * Mahi Mahi Taco: the fish tasted fresh, and I liked the crispy onions on top. There was quite a bit of sauce, which made it pretty messy to eat. While the fish was good, it felt like a very heavy taco overall. * Surf & Turf Taco: this was loaded with steak and topped with two flavorful shrimp. The shrimp had an amazing flavor, and this taco was much more enjoyable and balanced. Overall, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the protein quality was excellent. My only critique is that the tacos felt a little overdone with toppings and sauces when the quality of the protein could easily stand on its own. Still, it's a solid spot for an affordable late-night bite. One thing to note: there are no restrooms available inside the restaurant.
