    Al Pastor Tacos
    Joe C.

This was stop number 3 on my Gaslamp Taco Crawl. I have to say this was the only place that disappointed me. The salsa bar was not good and looked pretty ragged. I tried their options and didn't like any of them. I went with the Al Pastor and it was not very good. It was a weird shredded texture and extremely greasy. My wife order the Pollo but they were out of it. So she changed to a shrimp taco which was a very pleasant surprise. Her taco was fantastic. I'd actually go back for that. Another done fall was there was now drink machines, so no water. With all that grease, I needed some water for sure.

Stopped by on a Wednesday after a Yelp event and was glad for the req! It's rare to find a solid $5 taco deal and in the heart of downtown to boot! Luis was incredibly welcoming and gave us the lowdown on what sauces went well with what tacos which stand well on their own. These are larger than your typical street tacos so you can rest assured that 2 will likely be enough, but 3-4 is what you really want ;) I'll be back to try the breakfast burritos soon!

More hype for Frida's Taqueria, please! Shoutouts to my Yelp friend who introduced me to Frida's for some Taco Tuesday deals. 2 for $5 tacos is unbeatable! The space is quite narrow, with half the establishment being more for the kitchen space. I came around last month and another time today. Insanely good prices for their select tacos and the service was very friendly. They're still new so some new additions to the menu may be added on soon. For my tacos I loved their Al Pastor and Carne Asada. It has a nice char to the meat. I introduced this to my coworkers who also like their tacos, and we will definitely be back a couple more times for our lunch breaks!

Frida's Taqueria has opened a branch in the Gaslamp Quarter after taking over the suite of a longtime taqueria on Fourth Ave. Supposedly, the space was the first approved taco shop in this area of downtown. The inside could seat around twenty customers while the sidewalk out front had eight stools for seating along a railing. The service counter was in the back left corner of the room with the pickup counter in the front right where there were three different agua frescas dispensers. The menu screens were divided into breakfast burritos, Fridaquiles (their version of chilaquiles), and drinks on one panel. The other panel displayed the tacos, burritos, mulitas, vampiros, quesadillas, fries, papa asada, and nachos. The Taco Tuesday special was two tacos for five dollars. You could select from the varieties that were regularly priced at $3.79 each which were the asada, adobada, birria, pollo asado, papas con soyrizo (vegetarian), and carnitas. My order was a strawberry agua fresca and four tacos... adobada, asada, baja style fish (fried), and shrimp. Within ten minutes, a tray was brought to my table. The two seafood tacos each had their own plate while the two that were part of the Tuesday special came together. Chipotle, crema, lettuce, and pickled onions were some of the toppings for the seafood tacos. If anything, I thought there was too much, and they masked the protein. Sometimes simple is better. The adobada and asada each had cilantro, onions, and guacamole as standard toppings. I appreciated the juiciness of the carne. The owner was very engaging during my visit. We discussed his plans of how he wanted to make his business more open to the local community with upcoming events and collaborations. I think Frida Taqueria will do well in the Gaslamp Quarter as long as people explore outside of the Fifth Ave corridor.

Sooo good. 2 for $5 on Taco Tuesday.

They had me at 2 for $5! TACO TUESDAYYYYY! I had received a recommendation to their Escondido location, so when I saw there was now a Frida's in downtown on 4th ave., right next to Freddy's Chophouse and Las Hadas, I knew it was on. When I later saw the 2 for $5 Taco Tuesday, I was locked-in. On to the tacos! What Luis and his crew have going on here is special. Flame-grilled, marinated carne asada, beautifully fresh guacamole-salsa-and veggies, plentiful portions, reasonable prices/deals, and friendly, customer-focused service...what more could you ask for? What's so special? There's a million taco places in San Diego, so you're probably asking yourself why should you come all the way to downtown for these tacos. Well, as someone who's been here 4 times in one week, including twice in one day, I'll tell you exactly why. What do I love more than tacos? Absolutely fantastic tacos, at a reasonable price, with exemplary customer service! The carne asada in these tacos, burritos, nachos, and more is some of the best carne asada I've had in SD. It absolutely reminds me of some of my favorite carne asada from Mexico. Once you get this taco in your mouth, all you'll be saying is, "FIRE!!!!". The salsa bar is stocked with cucumbers, grilled peppers, limes, salsa macha, and more! I've had the tacos, a burrito, and even tried the nachos and everything was excellent. I brought two friends here, and heck, I even brought my momma here. Everyone has said the same thing, "Delicious!". Luis' customer service is awesome too. On a number of occasions I've watched him guide customers to the Taco Tuesday specials, ensuring they get the best bang for their buck. Luis not only cares about their meticulously crafter food, but also their customers, ensuring they have a wonderful experience. Also try their delicious looking Agua Frescas. They look amazing. Buen Provecho! Thanks Luis!!!!

Came here around 10:30 AM on a Tuesday. They just opened about a month ago and already have a lot of fun stuff in the works. First of all -- the deals Tuesdays: two tacos for $5. You can choose from al pastor, carnitas, carne asada, birria, chicken, or vegetarian. Sundays: two Baja tacos for $5. They're also planning a Mexican bingo night and other fun activities, which I love. It's always a good sign when a new spot is building community vibes right away. They offer breakfast all day and mentioned they'll be adding more items to the menu soon. Here's what I had: * Carne Asada Taco: Absolutely delicious. The meat was flavorful, juicy, and not dry at all. I devoured it. * Carnitas Taco: My favorite. Topped with purple onions and this really tasty sauce that brought everything together perfectly. So good. * Strawberry Fresca: Super refreshing and not overly sweet, which I appreciated because I don't like sweet drinks. I was hesitant to try it, but the owner hooked me up, and I'm so glad I did. They have four different fresca flavors to choose from. The place itself is super cute and very clean. It wasn't busy when I went. I was the only one there, but it was a Tuesday morning so that's expected. Definitely looking forward to going back and trying more items. This spot has a lot of potential. Oh, and dogs are allowed. Huge plus!

I had the Adobada burrito and it was delicious. It was greasy but it was very good and flavorful with good spices. The chef and server were both very nice and made a few suggestions on the hot peppers and hot sauce. Really friendly. Nice atmosphere and very pleasant experience. Will try tacos next time.

3 Carne asada tacos, 1 birria taco, pina fresca in front. The other person had carne asada fries and mango fresca that was so delicious

First time visiting Frida's they had the best tacos, birria and especially the drinks the fresca was the best that I have had while visiting California. The Pina and Mango was the best. I loved the carne asada fries and carne asada tacos. The service was excellent the lady was really nice at the counter. She was patient and the place was clean. Highly recommended

    Shrimp, birria, carnitas, soyrizo tacos
    K J.

We were in the area for a conference and a bit lost about where to go for tacos and the owner came out and talked to us about his menu. He was very friendly and helpful in explaining and suggesting items based on dietary restrictions. The tacos are amazing here! Tried the birria, shrimp, carnitas, and soyrizo with papas. All very flavorful! Watermelon lime agua fresca was refreshing. Definitely recommend if you're in this area!

Wonderful service. I've been going to San Diego-style taco shops since I was 6 years old, and taquerias in Mexico since I was 16. The owner of Frida's provided the most welcoming, helpful, engaging service I've ever experienced. The surf and turf burrito and mango passionfruit agua fresca were great too.

Great spot for tacos,my favorite cheese taco with surf and turf, the right amount and dressings are balanced perfectly, the addition is the aguas frescas, the service is great friendly, if you have question they explain to you in detail, the place is really clean, and music is good. A good spot to eat and chill.

The best burrito I've had in San Diego so far. The staff is absolutely incredible and so friendly and nice. The vibe is also really fun for a casual night out with friends.

I picked a place off Google but when we landed there we were not comfortable stopping to park, so we looked again and decided to check out La Puerta not realizing it was in the Gaslight District. I am not a fan of the Gaslight District, which is why I am so mad!! I'm going to HAVE to go back to the Gaslight District!! The food was AMAZING!! I HIGHLY recommend the Potato Flautitas. It's the kind of dish I'm going to dream about, I'm salivating now just thinking about them. I also did the Pick 3 Street Tacos (and actually ordered a 4th). The Ranchero Shrimp and Grilled Veggie were top notch. The Conchinita was recommended by our waiter, and it was interesting, tasty but different. It could have used a little more pickled onion. The only one I would not recommend (shockingly, I thought it would be the easy pass) was the carne asada. It was too greasy. My husband ordered a carne asada quesadilla and said the same, it was too wet and soaked through the tortilla. But there were no many other delightful options, I would say just don't go traditional. But honestly my favorite thing on the plate was the side dish rajas con crema, seriously, that alone is going to drag me down to the Gaslight District. I'm even considering going to a Padres game just for the excuse. I'm salivating again! As for our waiter, Colin, he was fantastic. Very informative, made great suggestions and seemed genuinely pleased by our satisfaction. He was smiling the whole time, friendly and stayed very present. I highly recommend you get yourself through the door at La Puerta and sit down for a meal ASAP. (We ate the food so fast I forgot to take pictures.)
