Good sushi restaurant in the middle of a very large mall/office building in Station Square. The colorful facade takes you by surprise at first! My wife and I went for dinner on a Friday and had no wait (though they do allow online reservations). Service was pleasant and leisurely (which we liked) and the place wasn't too crowded. Our favorite item was the veggie tempura appetizer. It had 7-8 pieces, all different veggies, and all nice and crispy. The seaweed salads were good too. We shared three rolls - tuna avocado, salmon skin, and yellowfin tuna. All were good, particularly the yellowfin, which had nice soft fish. In general, the rolls were a bit heavier on the rice and lighter on the fish than I might have hoped, especially the salmon skin. Presentation was all very nice. Two of us made reservations for Kiku on Christmas Eve. Kiku is tucked away inside Station Square and the inside is fairly large with multiple tables. (Over the years, I must have unknowingly walked past this restaurant hundreds of times!) Its menu has many options for appetizers (e.g., gyoza, takoyaki, yakitori, and edamame), soups, salads, entrees (e.g., katsu, teriyaki, and tempura), hot pot (e.g., shabu shabu), sushi bar (dozens of rolls, nigiri, sashimi, maki, and temaki), and non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages (e.g., tea, ramune, wine, beer, sake, sho hi, whiskey, and gin). My husband and I ate one lunch here. We saw a sign that explained that the construction of the restaurant is a traditional nail-less Kyoto style. Our waiter promptly and courteously served us. Here are my reviews for what we ate: Jade East and Kiku Punch - 5 stars - These two cocktails tasted delicious. The Jade East contained melon liquor, vodka, pineapple juice, and cream. I forget the exact ingredients of the Kiku Punch, but it also had a wonderfully fruity flavor. Tuna-avocado roll - 4.5 stars - These sushi rolls contained very fresh tuna, avocado, and cucumber and tasted very good. Teriyaki salmon - 5 stars - My salmon was cooked perfectly, and its sauce and sides of vegetables and miso soup were very flavorful. A friend and I were in town and he was in the mood for sushi. This was the best ranked place within a few miles of our hotel so we gave it a try. It is located in one of the Station Square buildings which was oddly very vacant. I don't know if there was any closer street parking but we parked in the parking structure across the street. It has a fancy looking entrance and the carpeted floors give it a bit of a 'restaurant in a hotel' feel but the inside is nicely decorated. You are greeted and immediately given warm hand towels which was a nice way to start the meal. I actually wasn't very hungry so I just ordered a spicy tuna roll. Most places just put your cuts of spicy tuna roll on a plain looking plate, but the presentation of a simple roll here was very nice and the flavor was great. My friend ordered a big plate of Nigiri sushi. I wish I would have remembered to take a picture because it's presentation was also great and he said every bite was excellent. Probably be best and freshest taste of sushi in Pittsburgh! This is a hidden gem located in a very deserted part of station Square. Few places offer such a variety with fish coming from global sources. The Uni was so very authentic and delicious that I had to order another piece! The Toro was surprisingly too chewy and not as fresh as I would have preferred, especially for the price. Portion sizes were average, but the prices were definitely premium. I spent over $100 including tip for what you see pictured. The bowl had a great variety, including octopus, which was not too chewy since they cut it very thin, but also included to know when I specifically asked to replace it with something else like salmon. Nonetheless, it was good, but not sure if it was worth a $35 price. The miso soup which was included in the meal was very good with a nice mixture of complementary ingredients. The service was friendly and attentive although there was only two tables being served at the time. I would consider going back if I'm in the area just for the variety and freshness, but would be a lot more careful in what I order because of the premium pricing. read more

We tried the Lychee Martini, Miso Soup, Gyoza, Yakitori, Apple Cocktail (I don't remember the name lol), Sushi box, and Takoyaki for dessert. My lychee martini was 10/10! Seriously so delish! Rude staff avoid at all costs. I went in with a reservation I scheduled online for a birthday lunch. I was there on time and when I walked in a gentleman in a huff seated me and threw the two menus down. He then walked away and later went over to the sushi Chef within ear shot and complained about my reservation being a problem. This was supposed to be a nice time and they have ruined a special occasion. I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs. Is it the best Japanese Restaurant ever? No? The location is in the desolate shopping center at Station Square. The entrance was promising, but once inside, I felt the decor was something they threw together. We were with a larger group, there weren't many others in the restaurant, and the service could have been better for the amount of people. I ordered a few pieces of sashimi to start and they were all good. Gotta love fatty tuna. But that Yellowtail Collar I ordered? Who knew fish could get tastier? Apparently the chefs at this restaurant. Man oh man, that was one of the best pieces of fish ever. I'm not sure which of the 3 rivers they caught that sucker, but whichever it was, move there! *Fresh Fish and great food.* I went with my friend for our Friday reservation which was at 6pm because the first time I have discovered it was when I was desperately looking for somewhere to eat in Station Square and it was so hard to find a table anywhere. Main dish: I ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Platter--It came with a miso soup that had tofu in it. It tasted so good.-- It was divided into nice portions that included octopus with seaweed salad; Sashimi which included Whitefish, Tuna, and Salmon; and sushi. They were all delicious!! The fish tasted fresh and almost melted in my mouth. The salmon surprisingly did not taste too fishy like it did in other restaurants. My friend ordered Kiku Special Combo--This dish a little similar to mine except it had rice, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and chicken teriyaki. All of them were good. Obviously, I liked my dish better than my friend's. I highly recommend the Sushi & Sashimi Platter. I chose to get dessert somewhere else. I went to Kiku on a Tuesday evening. It is located in station square which is very nice area. You need to pay for parking in this area. Rewas not crowded. There were plenty of open tables to sit. This place is huge with lot of tables. Christina was very friendly. She checked in several times. I ordered spider roll, salmon and yellowtail nigiri, seaweed salad and miso soup. Miso soup was very salty, seaweed salad was okay. Sushi and roll were okay. I was expecting bigger portion for Spider roll, the rolls were small. Last night for the first time in 30 years I went to Kiku at Station Square. This restaurant was the first time I had tofu and sushi. This trip was just as wonderful as the first time I was there. We were a group of 6 and got accommodated very quickly. There weren't a lot of people inside and lighting was dull; definitely could use more light.
