The food and service was amazing! I've had sushi from many different places and this was the best I've ever had!!! From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall, so you know that means it's amazing!!!! The tuna tataki was unlike any I've ever had!!!!

From left to right: spicy California roll, Philly roll, Angel roll, spicy yellowtail roll.

I love Maya! The sushi is super high quality. I always order takeout and it's always ready within 20 min or less. The Angel Roll is my favorite, and might be my favorite roll in Pittsburgh! I also love the spicy yellowtail roll, and the yellowtail jalapeño roll. My fiancé loves the spicy California roll and the Philly roll.

Amazing sushi! Decently priced and the fish was delicious and fresh. Some of the best rolls I've had in Pittsburgh. Yummy roll was my fav - the shrimp was hot and fresh and crispy and the salmon on top was divine! The staff was very sweet and service was fast!

I love this place! Ambiance is very kid friendly. The service is top notch. The food is of high quality. We had two sushi rolls and Sashimi. The quality of fish is really good. For the price, you get what you pay for. Especially if you are into a raw fish. The variety of raw Tuna is delicious. The food presentation is really cute. I'm definitely going back.

Small sushi place, but wow! Upon arrival, nice welcome. Quick service to get menu and drinks. Food arrived quickly, the best chirashi bowl plate I've ever had! That fish was fantastic, and the rice (yes, the steamed rice is amazing!). Maybe one of the top fresh fish sashimi cuts I've had at a sushi place in the world. Rolls were perfect, as were the hand rolls, too. Loved my experience here. Any time in the Pittsburgh area, I will try to get to this place

Very good sushi! I get this place delivered on Uber Eats all the time- Uber Eats now calls me a "Top Fan" and says I have ordered here over 5 times- I'm not mad about it! Consistently good sushi. Fresh, high quality ingredients. Variety of rolls and a large menu. I will continue to order from them because I have yet to be disappointed!

Ordered a few rolls for takeout and was pleasantly surprised to have some really delicious/incredible sushi! The tofu avocado roll was something I had never had before but loved the salty/sweet combo. Everything was prepared really well and the sweet potato roll was perfectly crispy. Food was made super quick as well and was delivered promptly. Will definitely be stopping in again!

Great service with yummy sushi! Their miso soup was delicious for $2 and green tea was good too! However, their tea came in a plastic cup? Which was a shock, but the taste was good

Overall: Very good. Great value. Food: The miso soup was a tab bit watery but the sushi was good. I enjoyed the dragon roll the most. I love the fish to rice ratio; very thin layer of rice and more fish. This is great because it can be hard to find low carb options at restaurants. Service: Excellent. Quite attentive. Ambiance: It looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but it is decently spacious and cozy on the inside. There are just a handful tables but doesn't feel overcrowded. No frills ambiance. Parking: There is street parking near by. I have never had a problem finding street parking.

Average Pittsburgh sushi. Relatively fast service, sufficient seating. Salmon and rolls were fine--could really taste risidual wasabi on the fish. Well plated; inside decorative is standard--nothing of note; bamboo chopsticks, plastic/melamine material plates and soy sauce dishes. Prices were lower compared to other establishments. Accepts credit cards.

Mayasushi has my whole heart. I love this place. This may be my favorite accessible sushi place in Pittsburgh. Salmon maki roll was 20/10 good, and I love that you can see the chef prepare the sushi. And don't get me started about the cute little tree that came on our plate..

Right to left: Shrimp temp roll, spicy tuna, spicy crab. Mad fresh!

Really great food! Ordered the Sweet potato tempura app. Maki Combo B. The rolls were very fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed!! The appetizer was crisp. Service was 100! At the end of the meal came a complimentary Mango Mochi ice cream-- not bad, a lil tough but good flavor. Totally worth everything!

We were so very impressed by this AYCE experience…read more When comparing it to other AYCE Sushi type places my family frequents, this has become our favorite. Their selection of appetizers were great, and the quality of each was stellar. We attempted to try quite a few of them, and still have many we want to try. In our group, the tofu with an amazing dashi broth, the crab puffs, "sexy jalepenos", tempura kani, and the gyoza were the standouts. As I stated, though...everything we had was awesome. We all ordered a different ramen, and then shared. They were all phenomenal. The steak teriyaki was also great. Sushi wise, we didn't get to try as many as we had hoped. We were too busy reordering the appetizers. We did try the Crazy Mango roll, and ended up reordering that because it was so good. My kids were with me, and they love all things Mango, and this was phenomenal. For dessert, we had a few orders (and reorders!) of the fried bananas. Overall, I cannot speak higher of our experience. It is very clean, well kept up on, and the service was phenomenal. Quality wise, you can tell how much effort they put into the place purely on their presentation. I had to remark many times about how utterly beautiful some of their dishes were. This was not like our other AYCE experiences where they just rush food out to you. They actually put effort into their craft here, and it is quite obvious. We will definitely be back, and look forward to trying new things that we didn't get to before!

My usual order is the chicken katsu bento box, which comes with a good portion of crunchy sliced chicken katsu, rice, two dumplings, a California roll, and miso soup. It feels like a solid, filling meal with enough variety to make it satisfying. The only downside with my most recent takeout order was the sauce placed in the middle of the container. I'm not sure exactly what it was, and after tasting it, it wasn't really for me. Because of the layout of the takeout container, some of it spilled into the rice and rolls. Next time, I'd probably ask for that sauce on the side in a separate container.

SO GOOD. Prices are steep but expected for location and quality of food…read more We went for my husband's birthday and sat at the bar downstairs, overlooking the gorgeous view of the city. It was shockingly not busy until about 630pm and they open at 4. There is no valet, just street parking. They provided complimentary edamame which had a great little spicy kick. I ordered the sour, the yuzu gave it a nice fresh citrus taste. My husband had a scotch and Coke. We decided to order the experience which began with a tartar (salmon, tuna and yellowtail on a bed of tuna). Amazing. We then had a two piece sashimi with jalapeño and crispy potato in a sauce that was similar to Italian dressing. This was our favorite of the entire night. Next was a shrimp tasting. It had shaved cucumber and seaweed in a light brown sauce, perhaps a mirin. It was okay, like a cold miso. We then had a dish I had only seen videos of called Chawanmushi. It was like an eggy flan served hot. My husband was not a fan but I was. Then was the first nigiri which the bartender was kind enough to split for us. It included 4 light pieces of sushi. After that there was a cold infused tomato palate cleanser and the second nigiri with "darker" fish. It was all delicious. After that was a fatty tuna hand roll (like a sushi taco) which was amazing as well. And last for the savory items, a soft shell crab which was very, very good. The yellow sauce tasted like the yellow of a potato salad with tastes that mimicked mayo, mustard and pickles. We ordered another round of drinks and I had a dirty martini which they called The New 32. The last item is the red bean dessert but we opted to order more food and had the Treasure Box ($78) which had 9 different sashimis. There were a few repeats from the experience portion but we were happy to have the first sashimi item again. And last, we had the red bean dessert as well as a complimentary tiramisu dessert for the husband's birthday. The bill was just over $300 which was expected for the location, amount of food and overall quality and experience.

The restaurant is located right on Mt Washington, giving a good view of the city. The interior looks appropriate for a sushi restaurant, but due to the massive windows lacked the darker vibe of other upscale restaurants. I've been to hundreds of sushi spots and the interior was merely average. Otaru seems to struggle with its identity. It needs to either commit to being an upscale restaurant or relax and simply be a quality one. The wait staff were kind and prompt, but at times appeared they may be less experienced. We were brought hot (paper) towels and edamame. We ordered the fried tako balls as an app. I personally don't prefer tako and found it very dense and chewy and the overall flavors were too undeveloped. The hand rolls were well filled and were easy to eat due to being more of a taco configuration than a true hand roll. The nori was not too tough, lending to a pleasant experience. The nigiri and sashimi were also good. The nigiri were good, but not as elevated as another upscale sushi spot in the city. They were still very good, but not quite excellent. They either need a bit more development or to be relaxed and served as two per order and the price adjusted slightly upward. If you take one thing from this review, let it be this. The yellowtail jalepeno cups were astonishing. By far this was the most well executed dish I have ever eaten and the best sushi dish I've had. They appear to be wrapped in toasted sesame seed wrappers. If you've had Hapi mixed crackers they give the same great flavor of the "fried chicken" pieces but with yuzu vinaigrette and the umami of the fish. I will certainly be back solely because of how good they were.
