Big fan of Fuji Sushi and happy to review them again. The service is sometimes a bit slow, but it's a one man show and Tommy is super friendly and gets everything as quickly as he can. It's normally pretty quiet and a great place to get sushi if you have the time. No alcohol, but I believe you can bring your own. Not important to us. Get the OMG roll when you visit. You won't be disappointed.

Delicious tasty quiet and pleasant. The owner was the only one there to prepare the dishes . But he put great care into each roll. Tempura was crispy and tender. Thanks for the meal!

    Spicy Tuna Crunch Rolls

This place definitely looks like a little hole in the wall, but boy do they have good sushi! My boyfriend and I went here for dinner the other night and thoroughly enjoyed our spicy tuna crunch rolls. It was a bonus that all specialty rolls (basically all on the menu) were buy one get the second 50% off! Additionally, the tuna was "real" whole tuna. It wasn't the ground up tuna that most sushi places carry. The reason I am giving Fuji four stars has nothing to do with the food but rather the atmosphere. It's very quiet and pretty awkward. There was one TV that wasn't really working but instead making a light buzzing sound. Some soft background music would've made all the difference! There were three tables of customers including us and you could tell that everyone felt a bit uncomfortable. If they could work on the ambiance a bit, I would definitely give them 5 stars.

Might be the best sushi in pittsburgh. Good portion size, presentation is good (photo is half eaten, sorry haha) and service is great, the chef is very nice! Definitely recommend the OMG roll, its a roll wrapped in aluminum foil and set on fire when presented to the table

A small restaurant but the food is absolutely delicious. The fried rice is probably the best I've ever had (no exaggeration!) and the sushi was quality. Ordered 3 California rolls, Pittsburgh Roll, Sweet & Sour Roll, Shrimp Tempura and another I can't remember the name. My favorite was the Pittsburgh roll (in the center). All the flavors just tied right together and it was huge!! It's in a small strip plaza but it's a must try if you love sushi! The owner served us and he was super nice and tentative to us. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Three and a half stars for this place. I had read where some other yelpers had commented on the over whelming sauce. My husband and I actually ended up here on accident, either way it was a very expensive accident lol. 43.00$ for lunch eek! We were told to seat ourselves and did so. What I really did like was the pictures they had of most of the rolls! This was very helpful. There was only one waitress and she did a great job of keeping our water filled and getting us our food as quickly as she could. The Gyoza was great!! In fact I would go back for that. However not the sushi...it was mediocre. There was wayyyy to much sauce on the entire plate that was touching other sushi I am sure it was not meant for. The size of the rolls was great! I was happy that they gave us a big portion and I was full rather quickly but I was not impressed with the sushi itself. The rice was way more sticky than I have ever see and the actually sushi didn't have much actual food inside of it. It seemed amateur, yes like a amateur sushi for lunch. If I am ever in the area I would try them again and maybe the sushi chef will be having a better day.

First up this is a 3.5 star place. We went there for lunch at around 1215 on a Wed. We walked in and there was only one other patron who at first we didn't see so we wondered if it was not open yet, then a waitress said go ahead and pick a seat. Cons -they put WAY TOO much sauce on the rolls -the sushi rolls themselves were okay 3 stars, the flavor wasn't all that great, not bad but not good -the rolls themselves had a lot of rice, not enough filling Pros -bento box for $15 was pretty good, I especially liked the tempura and the variety (more than other bento boxes I have had ) -fried gyoza was good -lunch specials are a decent value, but whenever my wife and I eat sushi we, especially me get selfish and order a bunch. The bento box would have been fine, but I also ordered a special roll and had 2 of her gyoza. -service was friendly Our tab before tip was $43 Bento box Gyoza California roll 2 x special rolls

Had a pleasant lunch here one afternoon. I was waited on immediately and sat at the sushi bar. I ordered the sashimi lunch, which came with 9 pieces of sashimi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and octopus) and 8 pieces of California roll. The fish was fresh and well-plated. The California roll reminded me why having sushi at a restaurant is so much better than say, picking up sushi at the market district; it's the temperature! The rice tasted like it was just made, and it warms the Cali roll to room temperature so that you can taste the flavors! Excellent!

We stopped here for sushi. We've never been here before. The atmosphere is quiet and laid back, which we love. We started with waters and the hot tea. Tea was great. We ordered sushi for two and the piano roll. The presentation was great! My only complaint was the brown sauce they drizzled on all of our rolls but one. It was sweet and combined with my soy sauce/wasabi mix, let's say it didn't taste too great. Everything else was amazing though! The sushi was fresh. Nice consistency with the rice and the rolls were huge! I will definitely come back here in the future. The man running it was super nice and didn't rush us out when we were finished eating even though it was close to closing time. Try it out!

Our server, Cat, was knowledgeable, attentive, and immediately picked up on our social cues, blending in to the chitchat we enjoy, while we could hear her behind us giving another table the alone time they preferred. She is the best server I have experienced in a long time. I heard her tell another table that her whole family is in the restaurant business, and her comfort and skill with every table made that abundantly clear. Too bad we were not hungry enough to order more, because everything was fantastic. We had the chef's selection of sashimi and of sushi (two different dishes) and a takoyaki appetizer. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the different sauces on the nigiri and sashimi elevated the fish in amazing ways. Of course, all of this joy is just highlighted by the incredible three-river view, which my wife said was a great way to start her weekend here. What a great place! My husband and I ate dinner in their restaurant one time. We entered through the bar area, and a courteous bartender led us to a friendly seating hostess and waitress. The menu listed starters (e.g., pretzel bites, fried zucchini, and chicken potstickers), salads, sushi/sashimi/rolls and poke bowls, sandwiches, flatbreads, entrees (e.g., ribeye and pasta florentine), etcetera. We waited one hour before the waitress brought out our main courses! Here are my ratings for what we ate: Spinach-Artichoke Dip - 3 stars - This dip tasted decent, but it was very oily. Alaskan Roll - 4 stars - This roll had eight pieces and contained salmon, cucumber, and avocado. Crab Cakes - The crab cakes themselves were meaty and tasted pretty good (4.5 stars), but the sides of peas (3 stars) and potatoes (4 stars) were very plain. Chicken Romano - My husband ate part of this entree. He called it "gross." I taste-tested it, and I thought that the chicken romano (3 stars), peas (3 stars), and noodles (3 stars) were not quite what I expected from a restaurant. I used a coupon from their website to get the appetizer for free, and my husband also ordered a soda. The total price was $62 plus a tip.

So we walked around the building to the patio area and walked into the dining room using the dining room door entrance, but there was no host area. So we walked back outside for a third time and went to the bar area, where they seemed confused why we were asking to be seated at the dining room because we were in the bar area. All of this wasn't a big deal and could be easily resolved with a few signs directing customers on the seating process. Lastly, the place is called Sophia's but inside the menu says Sophie's. I don't know if this place is Sophie's or Sophia's or maybe a combination of both? The ambiance at the bar had a fun vibe, but the dining room area seemed like they didn't put much effort into making it feel cozy and welcoming. I would love to see the place add some booths or more decor so that it felt less like they just put some tables in an open room. It has so much potential!! Now once we got seated, we were told they had no drink menu, just 3 drink specials. Ok so we ordered the specials. Drinks were very good and came in fun colors and glasses! Our waitress was nice but was not very attentive. She was helpful when we asked about the menu and was very knowledgeable, but we had to flag her down for things like water, our check, when we were ready to order, etc. Now let's get to the food. We got the potato croquettes app which was devoured quickly. They were little mashed potato bombs and came with a mystery creamy dipping sauce. They came out hot and had great flavor and so did the mystery sauce! I wish more came with the order, but that may have been me just being hungry and wishing I had more because they were so delicious! The waitress recommended the chicken Romano and the bourbon jam burger. My chicken Romano was fine - a decent meal. The chicken was VERY thin and the accompanying pasta had no flavor, it just tasted like I was eating plain noodles with parm sprinkled on top. I know chicken Romano is supposed to be thin, but this was so thin that I got more egg/parm batter than chicken, which made my meal taste more like scrambled eggs than chicken. I do have high expectations for chicken Romano specifically, so I wouldn't say don't order it, I will just say it's not going to be the best you ever had. My friend had the burger and said it was very very good! They had a fish sandwich special and I had major FOMO when i saw the waitress serve that sandwich to another table - it looked fantastic! It was huge and thick on a puffy brioche bun. I think I would go back here again just to try that fish sandwich. This place, very randomly, also has sushi. I don't eat sushi, so I can't comment too much on it, but they did have an extensive sushi menu and I did see a few of them plated and they looked so good it also made me wish I did like sushi! Lastly, they only had 2 dessert options, chocolate cake and cheesecake. We got the chocolate cake and a huge piece came out that was so rich it almost tasted like fudge, it was great! Because of how rich it was, we could only have a few bites and took the rest home - I guarantee not a crumb of that cake will go to waste! Overall a pleasant experience here. I would get the potato croquettes and chocolate cake again and try the fish sandwich or maybe the crab cakes for my entree.

The one downside of the tasting was that many of the items up for grabs weren't on the actual menu, so we ended up ordering a few extra items to get a more accurate idea of what Sakari was up to. Overall, the atmosphere is excellent. Would it be so nice without the incredible view of the city? I'm not sure, but the restaurant is very modern and uses a dark palette throughout, which works fine since there's so much light from the windows. The service was so-so, and probably the real down point of the experience. Perhaps it was the free tasting concept in the wait staff's mind, but many people were still ordering food off of the regular menu (we spent $90 on two rolls, the grilled cheese small plate, and a glass of $13 rosé), so I'm not sure why the waiters/waitresses seemed so disinterested. I would've been even more disappointed if this was the service provided, say, on a romantic evening when the bill would quickly escalate to the $120-150 range. They were fast to clear the table, but it was almost disruptive, as the staff continually interrupted conversations, reached over us for plates while we weren't quite finished, and even spilled stuff on my wife's purse. Really made for a meh experience. The food, though, was good...I think. I'm torn, as Monterey Bay promotes their use of fresh fish (and the fish used WAS wonderful), but the sushi rolls were sort of victims of trying so hard to be unique that the fish becomes a backdrop to the other 5 ingredients in each roll. We tried about a dozen things, from fish-focused rolls and savory wagyu rolls, to dessert rolls, and almost all of them suffered from this. If I'm being honest, my favorite item from the evening was the sashimi. It was melt-in-your-mouth good. Which is probably why I walked away feeling like the rest of the rolls were overthought. If you have access to such incredible cuts of fish, why disguise the quality for the sake of trying to fit every flavor profile imaginable in each roll? Don't get me wrong, the rolls were all tasty, but if you pay $20 on a roll, I think I'd prefer to taste what I'm really paying for: the fish. Presentation, though, is spot-on, so the chefs certainly aren't slacking behind the bar. The two non-sushi things that we tried were the dumplings and the grilled cheese small plate. The dumplings were awesome, with a pork sausage filling and a sweet sauce lining the plate. I was a bit surprised by how large the portion was, as well. The grilled cheese was good, but I probably wouldn't get again. It's simply too filling, and the stomach space would be better spent on the sush/fish options. All-in-all, Sakari has loads of potential. The atmosphere and view are sensational. The staff is okay, but could use work on reading their customer's needs (the bussing of the tables was disruptive, but they at least kept waters topped off) and giving off a more positive vibe...epecially for the type of bills they're handing to customers. Perhaps, most importantly, the food is creative - almost to a fault - and delicious, so let's hope they pull everything together and make Sakari a top restaurant in experience, and not just elevation.

We decided to go check it out on a Saturday night. Unfortunately the dinner turned into a comedy of errors: a tray of water glasses was spilled over Joe and our neighboring table's guests, the $20 appetizer we ordered was served at room temp, I received the wrong wine, and finally when it came time to pay our $90 bill, I was mistakenly charged triple that amount and the manager had to void it out. Although they did provide a free round of drinks for the water incident, I felt that for such a nice restaurant we should have received better customer service. The positives? Pretty good sushi rolls and a fantastic view of the city. Wanted to enjoy this local spot but will likely not be returning.

Our cocktails were subdued but very tasty. First we were served a pea soup shooter--we all wanted a whole bowl. Then a couple of appetizers--the 'compressed pineapple' with frisse was interesting with a flavorful dressing, but not too sweet. I got the special, seared tuna with a shrimp over udon noodles and a Hoisin sauce with some sort of wasabi. Again, the flavors were unique but not overpowering.
