I have been coming to No. 1 Sushi Sushi for 10+ years, and they never disappoint. This is one of the most affordable sushi places in Pittsburgh, and all of the ingredients are still so fresh. It's a cute little shop, they move quick so you can be in and out or you can dine in. The prices are really good to be located in a downtown area. -- I'm visiting for work. You'll see on the pic of the container what I ordered. I really wanted to enjoy it, but I feel like because they are so quick they didn't handle my food with care. The sushi was falling apart as I was picking it up. It was like the rice was not sticking together and the seaweed was like easily punctured so when I picked it up it would smash and break apart. The first time my friend and I were very ill within 2 hours of eating our rolls. We concluded that it was because of the rice considering she got a veg roll and no raw fish. This time, the sashimi that I ordered was terrible. It was thrown into a styrofoam container and looked terrible. Additionally, the cut on the fish is terrible. It is incredibly inconsistent and makes eating the sashimi and unpleasant experience. For example, some parts of the salmon are see through, while others are far thicker. This is indicative of an inexperienced or careless chef. They also shorted me one border of hamachi which is not cool. Overall, I got an unpleasant fishy smell when opening my box, the cut was ridiculously bad, and the quality of the fish today was subpar. Used to be my favorite place for sashimi, but has consistently gone down hill. I will not be returning and I will warn others to say away. read more

You can also eat in the restaurant itself, it's just small. But they do a great job keeping it clean and tidy, so you're sure to feel comfortable dining in. Really solid sushi right in the heart of the Golden Triangle downtown area. They have all of the standard sushi offerings and even through in a miso soup with some of their lunch specials. The eat-in area is a couple barstools off to one side of the stores but I get the sense that this place is really more of a grab and go (even when it's not Covid). Today I ordered a spicy crab roll and an avacado/eel roll. Both were quite good! Lots of filling in the rolls and generous portion of ginger and wasabi too. I used to get their California Rolls, which are huge, before I saw how their raw fish looked. I looked at other photos on Yelp and heard what other people ordered, and thought it must be good quality. I love the salmon avocado roll, Yummy roll, and spicy tuna roll. The salad has fresh veggies and ginger dressing. The most recent lunch special I ordered was a spicy salmon roll and a yummy roll with a salad or soup for $12.99. The rolls were big and I couldn't finish my salad I was so full. The line is out the door at lunch time even though they make the sushi so quickly! They have a great business! I can't recommend this sushi place enough. I first went here last week when I needed rice for my new iPhone- I had dropped it in the bath tub. I couldn't find a store open, or a restaurant willing to let me buy some rice. Any place I found with rice had the pouch kind that had already been partially cooked. When I entered #1 sushi the lady working the register was so sweet and kind about my situation- the owner had been out front sweeping the entrance, the lady working the register asked if she could give me any rice- the owner immediately said yes. I had my phone in a zip lock and they filled the bag- when I went to pay, they wouldn't even take payment. I told them I would be back and would sing their praises. I was talking to the receptionist at my hotel about the phone incident and the kindness of this sushi place. They asked which place- I gave them some to go menus- and she said that this place has the best sushi and the kindest employees. I can't agree more. She also said she would give the menus out when people asked her for local restaurant suggestions I'm back in town today- and was excited to get some sushi rolls. I had taken a to go menu with me so I could make my decisions. I went with the green monster and the veggie lover roll- both are delicious. I have so much left- I can have a bit more tonight, then enjoy the rest on my flight tomorrow. The service today was welcoming and efficient. They were very busy with take away orders as well as walk ins. They have tons of regulars. I ordered my rolls from the owner today- I wanted to thank her in person for her kindness last week. The same lady from last week was working the second register- they both remembered me and seemed genuinely to care that the rice trick worked, and my phone was working fine. I took my rolls over to the tables at the farmers market where I could enjoy my yummy rolls while listening to the live music. I would be hard pressed to name a favorite between the 2 rolls.
