Olive oil tasting was provided and a reservation made just 30 minutes prior to visiting. Alexandra gave us a comprehensive hour of tasting and information about the oils and our heads were full and our mouths so happy. At the end she treated us to vanilla bean ice cream with topping of olive oil and Himalayan salt that was surprisingly delicious. $11.00 is more than worth this tremendously good experience. We brought many bottles home of oil and vinegar's to share with family and friends. Down the hill is a lovely newly renovated vineyard and winery named Truss. An absolutely wonderful experience. My mama and gf were with me, and we all agreed, a lovely lasting memory. Kiler Ridge Olive Oil is a few miles off the beaten path, but near another great find, Ecluse Winery. It's a great alternative to going to yet another great winery. Set atop of gorgeous hills, the view is breathtaking. We did make a reservation, and Mike, our educator, was wonderful. I learned so much about olives, oil making, and differences in use. Mike left a lot of room to ask questions, and had great presentation skill. We tried 6 oils (with slivered apples in-between to cleanse the palette), and perhaps the GOAT use of olive oil was drizzled on ice cream with sea salt atop. Wow and whoa, both. I was in a group of 3 we showed up at 3pm without reservation for a tasting (we were told at 2:30pm over the phone we could come). As soon as we walked in we were greeted with sour attitudes, rude looks and an overall disinterest in servicing us. We didn't get around to the tasting part, we decided to leave because it was clear we were an inconvenience to them. It's unclear why they offer tastings if they're so incredibly inconvenienced by them. Certainly will not send any of my friends or family to this location to spend their hard earned money. read more

We had our 7 year old daughter with us who was well behaved and they were giving her the eye the entire time, as if she was a criminal. We bought plenty of items and thanked them, but except for the employee who helped us directly, the rest ignored us. We called ahead and asked if we could bring a group of 8-10 without a reservation, and they even said we could do a counter tasting even though they had no room for a full sit-down tasting. What a lovely place to have an olive oil tasting! The wonderful lady - I can't remember her name - was so informative ! Learned that the property was purchased 2003 and was an almond tree farm. Italian olive trees are now grown on the property. It was a hot day but the patio was very nice. Understand more about the peppery flavor of olive oil. The place itself has stunning views of the surrounding landscape including the ranch itself. 3. Worth noting that they do not provide any breads/ food servings to dip into the olive-oil so you're pretty much going to have drink the oil as is. This came as a surprise to us and is definitely worth considering. 4. At 8$ a person, this is fairly economical as compared to some of the other olive-oil tasting places in the neighborhood. 5. I've been wine tasting and chocolate tasting so I figured why not give olive oil tasting a try as well. The farm is about a mile from the intersection of Vine St. and Kiler Canyon Rd. It is then another .3 of a mile up Old Kiler Canyon Road. I was able to drive my Honda sedan so it's definitely not "off road" like some reviewers suggested. You will need to pass through an automatic gate(open during business hours) to reach the parking lot. Tasting/tour reservations can be made online or over the phone. *Check days/times before you go. For the tasting the group sat outside and enjoyed the lovely view and pleasant fall weather while our hostess guided us through the basic ins and outs of olive oil growing, harvesting, processing, and bottling. I love their presentation! All olive oils come from their property which you have an amazing view of during the tasting. Its stunning! They have you warm the oil in your hand and then pop the lid and smell it. It reminds me of begining of aladdin; the merchant scene when he pops the lid od the famous dead sea tupperware box:"puff, still good!" Presenters will each have their own approach some talk about how to taste the olive oil, or about the harvest and pressing. They will all teach you what to look for on labels of olive oil to know you are getting a first press, extra virgin olive oil. They briefly explain about regulations/ lack of regulations on what you can call extra virgin olive oil and compare theirs to a generic brand and tell you what chemicals go into it. Their olive oils do have a bit more cough to it in the back of your throat and you will also get to learn about that. You will definitely leave with a bottle of olive oil and maybe a new desert addicion... highly recommend this experience. read more

Excellent alternative if you are, like me, someone who cannot handle more than a glass of wine. Paso Robles being a mecca of wines was off my target places because of the idea of spending hours wine sipping has never attracted me too much. However, I am in love with agriculture in general (not only of grapes we live!) and in particular anything related to the olive oil culture (after all I am Spaniard and my parents grew up picking and eating olives and having olive oil instead of blood circulating their veins!). I simply cannot live without olive oil and love visit this type of beautiful working farm, where you can enjoy the aesthetics of a well taken care property as well as connect with the land and with your ancestors (well, at least with mine!). Kiler Ridge is beautiful from the moment those gates open for you (check the designs in the iron). Very clean, spacious, warm and quiet all at the same time. I enjoyed not only the oils, but also checking the sculptures made of metals and recycled materials (awesome artist). The sculptures were for sale, so I assume they rotate them for variety from time to time. I also enjoyed a lot the fruit trees, checking the pomegranates growing, the figs...all so Mediterranean looking. I felt at home. You will feel too. And, remember, this is a great excuse to visit Paso Robles if you are not wine-tasting inclined. read more

Olive oil tasting?! I didn't think it would be that enjoyable but MIL really wanted for us to check it out and well I loved the experience. The five of us tasted about 6 olive oils and our sommelier of olive oils led us through the different OO and how to smell and taste them. We compared authentic OO to that of store brand olive oils and there is quite a distinction. I learned quite a bit about olive oil - how they are harvested and made, regulations of OO here and abroad, etc. We enjoyed the olive oil so much that we bought 2 bottles. I was excited to try them that I drizzled them on my salmon and salad. If you're looking for something to do in Paso Robles and you're not into wine, this would be a good option. The views of the olive trees are beautiful and their dog, Marcus, was an added plus for my daughter. Also we were able to bring our dog with us.l which was an added plus! read more

This is not your typical shop where you walk around tasting samples of different olive oils. Here, you sit down and spend about 30 minutes tasting different oils and actually learning about them and how they are made. One of the friendly representatives gives you a lesson of sorts. It's truly an educational experience but a fun, interesting one, too. The olive oils are very, very good. We actually would have loved to have purchased one of each of the different types but our budget wouldn't allow it and, honestly, I wouldn't want them sitting unused and unloved in the cupboard. As others have noted, you do get a little scoop of ice cream at the end with a dash of sea salt and drizzle of olive oil on type. Sounds weird but it's pretty delicious. The grounds are lovely and overlook olive tree orchards all around. They also have a very pleasant deck with nice seating overlooking the orchards where you can enjoy a nice cup of olive oil, I guess. We stopped in on our last day in Paso. We did the olive oil tasting which was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. Learned a lot about the different oils and their flavor profiles, what foods pair well with each and learned a little about the process and differences in their oil verse standard grocery store oils. The best part, we got to taste ice cream with some olive oil drizzled on top at the end, so yummy! In addition, the view from their patio is spectacular! Ecluse vineyard & winery is just down the road (great wines and staff) you could stop at each. I will be purchasing some oil to be shipped. read more

Fantastic view, but $10/tasting is a pricy for what you get. You start with Bertolli oil and then taste four of their oils. They're fantastic about educating you on oil, but the tasting experience was not enjoyable. You drink the oils vs having something to dip them in. No one in my party liked drinking them. Their first oil is so peppery that my throat hurt swallowing it. They finish with a tiny scoop of ice cream with oil poured on it. If you're in this specific area I'd so by for the view and that's it. read more

If you are looking for some variety in between wine tasting in Paso, Kiler Ridge is a great spot to visit. We tried 5 different olive oils (one which was Bertolli) as the host walked us through the process/certifications for olive oil. They also provide apples as a palate cleanser in between tastings. Wow ! We visit this area every time in the area and we came today specifically for the lemon olive oil that I love from here. I also got one for a coworker. The customer service was of "indifference ". The employee seemed " unhappy " or disgruntled. I would have purchased some soaps also but was completely put out of by the lack of friendliness. Very disappointing as I have been here before for tour and purchased later. Sorry to say I will probably look elsewhere for something that I went specifically to you for purchasing. I'm so happy I finally made it here. The views are simply gorgeous and as soon as I stepped out of the car, I was greeted by two very friendly dogs, one of them a rambunctious puppy. Mary did an olive oil tasting with me and it was so interesting. I learned a lot of things and was surprised at how peppery the oil can be in the back of your throat. I tasted five different oils and it was fun to warm them up, smell the different aromas, and then swirl the oil around in my mouth to get the full flavors. They provided green apple slices to cleanse between each tasting. Afterward, I tried their chilled Spanish almond soup drizzled with olive oil, which was thick and delicious. A perfect choice for that hot day. I skipped their ice cream treat at the end because of the dairy, but I left fully satisfied. read more

This was a delight! Perfect way to end a wine tasting outing before driving home. The green house on top of the hill... This is the type of place I could see myself moving into. The green hue of the house (tasting room) the panoramic views that overlook rolling green hills, the olive trees surrounding the property, the everything... My man asked me, why are we tasting olive oil? Who does this? Well I do. I'm all about it! I want to learn about the process. I love meeting passionate people who don't give up on their dreams of keeping an art like this alive. I also love supporting local family owned businesses who offer incredible quality products. I don't cook with these expensive EVOO's, instead I pour them over burrata salads with tomatoes or watermelon or use them to make light salad dressings, or over grilled fish. This is the good stuff... The olive oils are fresh and flavorful. They come from the farm on top of the hill. They're hand harvested, then cold press within hours. This process produces the incredible quality. Sample them all and I took home my two favorites which were the Tuscan and the lemon. I also tried olive oil over vanilla ice cream. This was our last stop in our whirlwind Paso Robles trip this past week. My husband and I were on our way to Ecluse Winery when we happened to see Kiler Olive Oil / Ridge on our left....so we thought, why not stop in for an olive oil tasting later? We arrived and parked our car (plenty of parking in this off-season), and entered the olive oil tasting room. If you check-in to yelp, you get 1 free olive oil tasting! We did exactly that and got to learn more about what "extra virgin olive oil" means and how to tell the difference between grocery story olive oil + the "real deal" extra virgin olive oil. THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE! Too bad our federal government also does not regulate the use of the words "extra virgin" on olive oil labels and brands, so un-informed consumers will never know that they are being lied to! It's all a marketing ploy, according to this olive oil farm! So, we learned that true extra virgin olive oil will have a peppery spicy kick to the oil after you taste it! Kiler Ridge also offers artisan lunches to customers, by appointment only. Their menu is small but the lunch and food is intended to be paired with the olive oil tasting! Since we had NO idea they offered this option, we didn't stay for the lunch. They told us that the entire "lunch w/ olive oil pairings" is an "experience" that can take 45 min to 1.5 hours. People come to relax, enjoy good food, and experience the "Tuscan" country-side (a replica, of course), with all the rolling vineyards around it. The views from Kiler Ridge are amazing, and I must say it was one of the better views out of all the wineries we visited on Sunday. After our olive oil tasting, we walked away with a $11 purchase of a 100 ml bottle of Tuscan extra virgin olive oil to take home! :) A fun stop along our Paso Robles wine country trip! read more
