If ice cream isn't your thing the store is filled with all kinds of homemade treats and a large selection of fudge. This is the perfect place to end your day after walking the downtown district. I took a 4 mike trek with 4 teens & tweens with Kilwin's as our destination! And boy was it worth it, the kids had all been here but it was my first time. Gourmet bulk candy and chocolate, boxes and plastic wrapped Easter goodies stacked on shelves all the way to the ceiling. I love a packed bountiful store! Kilwin's is in the heart of Delray, on the Atlantic Ave shopping strip. A great place for a snack while shopping, or a gift. I was a kid in a candy store, sugar surrounded me and my wide eyes twinkled! The kids ran around in circles not sure what to buy, or perhaps the sugar in the air was already coursing through their veins. This is a handmade confections store with delightful items. We purchased fudge, ice cream, salt water taffy, chocolate covered pretzels, and chocolate covered grahams. Everything is wonderful! The store aisles were large enough to get a wheelchair through them. The staff was very helpful and kind. The best ice cream around. When you walk near the shop you can smell the waffle cones being made. They make a variety of candy and confections right in the window. We saw trays of freshly made chocolate covered marshmallows covered with colored sprinkles on sticks and large dark and milk chocolate caramel and pecan turtles. Today we sampled chocolate fudge. Many sold chocolate Easter bunny's were wrapped for purchase. We whent to Kilwins two of the nights on our vacation. The first night I had gotten Carmel, it was creamy, rich in flavor and a lot of swirls of Carmel, so we said to each other we will come back another night. The next day, we try another ice cream place called Proper and I also got Carmel, before the women behind the counter gave me my ice cream she saw that it did not have a lot of Carmel so she took some Carmel sauce and put in my ice cream free of charge. The ice cream was really good. Then two days later, we went back to Kilwins and you guest it, I got Carmel again. This time when the person behind the counter gave me my ice cream, I took it and I sat down and ate it, it was nothing compared to the other ice creams, it just tasted like plain vanilla. So we go back up to the counter and ask if they can put some Carmel syrup into the ice cream but they say they can't. But they gave me a second scoop of the same ice cream in hopes that it would taste more like Carmel. But when I ate it, it still tasted like plain vanilla ice cream. Sure enough Kilwin's did not disappoint. With handmade waffle cones and excellent ice cream, I really enjoyed my Chocolate Peanut Butter Chocolate double scoop. So much for the diet. I didn't get to try the other stuff, but they had everything from Carmel apples and Carmel marshmallows to over a dozen different varieties of fudge. They also make homemade candies here but they did seem a little expensive (to me). I really enjoyed the ice cream here and I found the staff to be pleasant and patient even when extremely busy. We actually had to cross the street before getting to Kilwins tonight because (even though being incredibly full from dinner) it would have been impossible to resist their homemade ice cream or fudge. They lure you in with a sample....1 taste and it's all over! Kilwins is all about sweets and when it's a gross 80' Christmas week day (what gives?), you might need to stop in a rock an ice cream to cool down and treat yourself for not breaking any of the ridiculous art statue pieces down the street. Inside a classic candy store exists three amazing case freezers full of ice cream flavors. I'm a fan of the coffee chip, because coffee and chocolate... We went to Kilwin's after having dinner in the area on a Saturday night and the line was out the door. After trying their ice cream, I can definitely understand why! My only critique is the lack of signage - we spent a while waiting to order without knowing what flavor options there were. By the time we got to the front, I felt rushed to order due to the crowds, panicked, and ordered a cookies and cream ice cream cone. Not a bad choice, but I likely would have chosen something less generic if I felt I had the time or if there were signs up with a list of flavors. I will cut right to the chase. If you like getting ripped off then this is the place for you. Tonight we decided to take a ride to East Atlantic Av in Delray Beach from Hollywood to grab a bite to eat. Roughly a 45 minute ride with medium traffic. Once in the area, we couldn't find any street parking because all the valet companies have taken it over. Found a parking garage on a side street not far from the area we wanted to frequent..There was a sign in the garage that indicated the price was $1 if you parked above the 3rd level. We finally found a parking space once reaching the 5th level. In order to pay you had to download the park mobile app to pay for your space and time while there..So, I did just that..The minimum base time charged was 3.5 hours at $10.50. We only planned to be there 2 hours of less..The $1.00 parking was basically a scam. After a quick bite we ended up at Kilwin's Chocolates for ice cream. Having been full from dinner I ordered a small kids cup of ice cream which was just about one small scoop..when I went to pay for the one scoop I was shocked at the cost, $5.59 for this tiny scoop in a cup..I questioned the price and an employee replied; I know it high but that's what it is.. Spent my last day in DRB walking up and down Atlantic with a friend and her daughter, stopping in boutiques and window shopping. Towards the end of our outing my friend noticed an adorable cupcake shop, only to discover it was closed. Sweets sounded good so we were a bit disappointed, but shortly afterward, the smell of waffle cones in the air and dragged us toward this adorable sweet shop! The first thing to catch my eye was trays of chocolate covered strawberries, but given that I hadn't eaten yet for the day, the ice cream cones were more alluring. Friend's daughter had the kid cone of a raspberry swirl that she liked (and got all over herself), while friend got chocolate caramels with sea salt (and savored them while making inappropriate noises) and I enjoyed the maple walnut ice cream in a waffle cone. I am not really a sweets person and really wasn't expecting to eat anywhere near as much of that as I did, but the flavor (recommended by the guy behind the counter over my original choice of praline) was just right- light and sweet with that distinct old fashioned taste, and plenty of chunked walnut goodness. That made our shopping experience all the more delightful, feeling safe. We were traveling with a family friend who grew up visiting Grandma in DelRey beach so this was a trip down memory lane for her. Kilwin's has been serving generations of happy customers, and their commitment to quality product is very much intact. They make their waffle cones fresh, which is super delicious, along with all the flavors of ice creams and gelatos! I've been to multiple other Kilwin's locations and have loved each shop between the delicious treats they make, the cleanliness and kind staff. However, this location has such an unpleasant and miserable female employee. She speaks very short with customers and gets easily irritated and then awkwardly avoids eye contact afterward. She seems too immature to even be working in an ice cream shop with customers. All other staff was great, but she was enough to ruin a nice experience for many in the store.
