11/27/22 Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. A bit pricey, but delicious. We purchased a cashew turtle and 1.5 lbs of fudge: two slabs of German chocolate fudge and one slab of salted caramel milk chocolate fudge. We've only tried the German chocolate so far and it is awesome, with nuts and cockney throughout. My husband picked this flavor. The other is for me. Boxed chocolate assortments are on every shelf of the store. They also serve ice cream in all its iterations. There are tables in the back of the store towards the river to enjoy what you bought. My husband and I went downtown to the zoo and Riverwalk a couple of nights ago to see the Christmas lights. After our stop at The Alamo, we passed by Kilwin's on our way back to where our car was parked. It was such a nice night and a warm temperature that having ice cream was the perfect ending. There were so many goodies to try to distract you as you walk in from popcorn, fudge, chocolates, and many other sweets. I was determined to have ice cream though. Peppermint ice cream seemed fitting 'tis the season with the red and green sprinkled throughout. My husband got the mint chocolate chip ice cream on a waffle cone. We might've been one of the last customers for the evening and so grateful we got to try it. The ice cream surely hit the spot for both of us. I asked where Kilwin was from and the lady mentioned that it's from Detroit and showed me all the locations across the country. I can attest to why it's so popular! We were in town for riverwalk and decided some ice cream would be nice. Walking down the road the smells coming from this place stopped me in my tracks. Going in the first thing you will see is all of the hand made chocolates. They have chocolate covered rice crispy bars and more. Towards the back they have the ice cream. As soon as we walked up they told us we could have samples of whatever flavors we wanted to try. My wife tried 3 or 4 before she found the one she wanted. I tried the cake batter first and honestly it wasn't for me. Then I tried the vanilla salted caramel and it tasted great! We both ended up getting the 2 scoop medium size and sat down at a table. The atmosphere was quiet. We sat there talking and enjoying our ice cream. It was a bit pricey but I think it was worth it. When I am in the area again I would definitely stop by again. read more

They have a lot of fudge to sample, though frankly I wasn't a fan of the fudge. What really shines is their caramel, perhaps the best caramel I've ever had. It was buttery, smooth, soft and didn't stick to your teeth or the roof of your mouth. They let you sample their ice creams (they're all tasty!), they give samples of their chocolate bars too so you have an idea of what to expect their milk/dark/white chocolate to taste like. The prices on all their goods are pretty good, especially in a tourist spot, about $1.50 for the caramel roll and $4 for marshmallow pops on a stick. Awesome place! read more

The extra star was for the really nice employees. Everything else was a waste of time and money. I feel like this location is just a tourist trap. Prices are ridiculous - Godiva costs less per pound and it is far better. The fudge was hard and dry. It tasted old like it had been sitting there for a while. The store is not organized so that people can form lines - people were cutting in front of us because they didn't know where to go to order what. This was a huge disappointment. read more

I wasdisappointrd that their salted caramel ice cream came with big chunks of dark chocolate as I LOVE salted caramel but am not a fan of dark chocolate. I got a scoop of their New Orleans praline pecan ice cream & one of their no sugar added (NSA) caramel ripple on their homemade waffle cone. All of it was very good! Was it worth the calories? Probably not, but I bet the salted caramel without the dark chocolate chunks would be!! Maybe I'll try the Dulce de leche ice cream next time!! read more

I went into Kilwins and the experience was not quite what I expected. There was no one behind the ice counter to help at first, then the young man helping me out seemed to be distracted. It turned out he was busy watching a football game on his phone and couldn't be torn away. He even ran up my sale with his face glued to the screen, it just made me feel insignificant.
