    Potato Pancake Combo

This was not the "homey place downtown" that we expected. It's located on an industrial park-like location and is quite a modern building. But it's welcoming and socially warm inside! Very nice environment and the walls are adorned with hundreds is portraits of service men from all branches of armed forces including fire and police officers. It's amazing! The menu is very expansive, almost dizzying in its expansiveness and it includes a huge number of vegetarian options. We were surprised because we're vegetarian and don't often find places with this kind of variety. I got the veggie skillet and my wife got the potato pancakes, which were spectacular!

Excellent food, large portions and reasonable prices. If you're from McHenry and you remember Don's Dairy Frost, you MUST get the "Traditional "! It's a double cheeseburger on steamed bun, Kringle cut fries with a Coke! Pure heaven!

I can't I haven't eaten here before! So so good! Clearly a local favorite. The walls are filled with pictures of veterans as a tribute/memorial. The service is personal and excellent. I will definitely be back!!!

I frequent Kim & Patty's at lunch since it's conveniently located down the street from our office. The service is outstanding and always a good laugh or two making it fun to visit. The food is outstanding from sandwiches, salads, breakfast, soups and much more. All made with love and quickly made to order. Being vegetarian they have a number of good options and will modify menu items to your liking. The restaurant is a comfy cafe with some great memorabilia and pictures of local folks that have served the community and our country. I would highly your try this restaurant out!

We have been coming to Kim and patty's for years, I have never been disappointed! I had to share this delicious waffle I got today! I know waffles are easy but it was too good. The staff is always so nice!

So I decided to try it for lunch and am torn between 3-4 stars. I got the breaded veal diner/dinner type special, posted on the board behind the counter seating. $14. And it came with bean or cream of potato soup. The veal was not a whole piece of veal but a ground concoction that seemed like something from the grocery frozen food section. Not awful but not awesome. Then again this is a little diner so should I expect chef food? It is called Little Chef. Undecided. It was served hot and crisp which was good because the gravy and mashed taters were definitely overwhelming the texture and flavor of the meal. The gravy was ok but a little different taste than any gravy I've ever had. Definitely not homemade and was very strong flavored. I think if it had some beans or a small salad included with this would have been happier. I got hot tea which was a challenge as the water spilled all over from the tea pot and I was told to put my hand on the top to avoid that, but then your finger got a little bit of burn from the hot metal. The soup was good and I took it home. The service was fine, absolutely no issues there and since it wasn't too busy, as expected. I know everyone's prices everywhere have gone up, but I just can't justify what I paid for what I got. Again not sure what expectations should be in this economy or where to put the extra minus star for the state of restaurants and value, but this was just a bit under expectations.

I'm glad we didn't skip this place based on the Yelp reviews. The restaurant is in the heart of downtown McHenry and next to the river. I highly recommend sitting in the enclosed patio. It's spacious, full of tvs, and has a nice view of the river. You can tell based on the menu and confirmed by our server, burgers are their thing. All kinds including beef, bison, chicken, turkey, veggie and fish, some choices are an up charge. The burgers come with a side, some have an up charge. Our server mentioned everything is made in-house. I feel it's a rarity of restaurants to made their food in-house so it made me excited for the food. Everything is reasonably price. I opted for the BFM burger and pickle chips ($2 up charge). The burger was juicy and well cooked. Their burgers are 1/2 lbs so it was big. The pickle chips were crunchy and really good. Portion was huge and worth the up charge. My lunch partner chose Cajun fries and they were crispy and flavorful. Our server was great! She was so nice! One negative, they allow dogs and many people brought their dogs. Since the space is enclosed, I did not like all the dogs while I was eating. It was tricky leaving since the hostess stand is located in the tight entrance and there was a dog right in the doorway. My lunch companion is deathly allergic to dogs. Luckily this dog owner was considerate and moved their dog so we could pass. Other than all the dogs, we enjoyed our meal and would come again.
