I love a good Vietnamese neighborhood staple like Kim Hoa Hue that has existed for a long time because you know they have to offer some really good food to keep this place open especially in this economy. It also warms my heart to see the Vietnamese aunties in the kitchen making and wrapping the cakes/dumplings. Since I am also an "early bird", it is even greater that they open at 8 a.m. I tried their small size bun bo hue (without pork blood) and an order of their banh bot loc la. Great flavors and I can't wait to try other items on their menu. I even got a vegan-friendly salad for my husband to-go (goi mit chay) and a goi du du tom + thit for me, for dinner. I am looking forward to coming back and trying their other menu items. Note: Their back parking lot is narrow and frankly quite dangerous to enter and exit since it can only fit one car at a time. So yummy! We got bun bo hue, mi quang, egg rolls and their hue combo appetizer. The hue combo appetizer and egg rolls were good, but I've definitely had better elsewhere. Their specialty is their bun bo hue and it did come out warm and not hot which was disappointing. I'm guessing they just have it always prepared in the back already. The flavors were good though. I recently tried the most highly recommended spot located nearby in Monterey Park for Bun Bo Hue but was not as wowed as I was expecting. Kim Hoa Hue was definitely much more to my taste! I ordered the large size bowl. The service was good and waitress, very friendly! The soup here is still very traditional and had much more complexity. I could taste the lemongrass and mam and it had all the meats you'd expect in a Bun Bo Hue. They were generous with the meats and there was a huge chunk of pork hock albeit it could have been a bit more tender. The sate they have here is really good! I like that they provide sate, chili sauce and fresh Thai chilis on the table so you can add as much as you want to adjust the flavor and spiciness. Overall, a very enjoyable bowl of BBH that I much prefer over their more popular competitor in MP! read more

Instead of a fresh or properly portioned condiment, I was served from what appeared to be a shared, unsealed jar. Unfortunately, I became severely ill with food poisoning shortly after eating here. Serving shared condiments this way is a major health and sanitation risk. I highly advise management to review their food safety protocols, and I caution others to avoid eating here until this is addressed. It is deeply unfortunate that I only noticed the unsealed jar after it was too late. I knew the moment I saw it that I was going to get sick, and sure enough, I did. We ordered the papaya salad a couple times for family parties and each time it never disappoints. They have a small($45) vs large($55) option and large feeds about 20-30 people. Wanted something soupy as my breakfast and stopped by this place. Very hole in the wall, but food was ok. When you arrive there is parking at the back, but it is one way. To-go says it's $12 for banh canh.... they charged me $14 dine in. Haven't had banh canh like this before, pretty ok. I'd rate it a 6.5/10. The lady was nice. First time here and I'm in love. The Mi Quang is so comforting and perfect. Small size is just filling enough. Soup is just enough to not be a "soup" dish and not too dry. We ordered 3 side dishes to serve as appetizers. Then tried the Mi Quang. Came here on the recommendation of a friend and was so happy I listened. We got lucky we came off lunch time hours and closer to the christmas holiday so the place was empty and we didnt have to wait too long for our food. The side dishes were delicious, you could tell from the consistency of the texture that it was made fresh the same day. Which I find that some restaurants dont do. My parents loved this place. My uncle swears this place has the best Hue Vietnamese cuisine in the area. I've dined here in the past and recently catered some family meals to go. This place sets the bar for Hue food in the area. I've only tried their bun bo hue. This time we had a huge pot to go. The order was ready for pick when we arrived. It was a big enough pot to feed over 30 bowls. Everything was packaged so neatly and everything looked very clean. Vegetables had some great color on them. The meats were sliced perfectly and there were plenty of meats to choose from per bowl. Highly recommend Kim Hoa if you're craving some authentic Vietnamese food. They do offer party trays as well. I'll definitely be back to try their Mi Quang and other traditional dishes. read more

Not a big fan. I got bun bo hue and I thought it didn't hit the spice level and quality that I would have expected. The friend I went with loves his super spicy so he thought he would add the spicy sauce that was on the table (looked like satay). Turns out it was some hybrid red sauce with tajin/chamoy??? It was so weird. I am so shocked he sucked it up ate it anyways because when I tasted that soup... It really just ruined my appetite. Everything in this store needs a little bit of an upgrade. From the chairs, tables to the menus... I thought this would be a hole in the wall authentic bun Bo hue but I for sure had way better. Even having fresher veggies would have helped. Decent food but really the best place for real yummy Vietnamese food is in OC - Garden Grove or Westminster. They do have a lot of selection. Service is not great but what do you expect from Asian establishment. Come if you're craving Hue food but too far to get to OC Little Saigon. It was honestly okay, the soup base was nice and I can see why people say that its totally different from Pho because its completely different, from the soup to the noodles to the toppings. This is my go-to location to get authentic Hue food in this area! Definitely another "hole-in-the-wall" location as it is a small restaurant that is tucked between 2 larger buildings. You really have to be careful driving by because you may miss the entrance/exit of the back parking lot. They have a lot of variety, whether you're looking for noodle soups, different types of banh or some cha, they have so many items to choose from. Of course, I always get the bun bo hue. It is a must. Depending on the mood, I order banh bot loc tran or banh bot loc la. I also order catering from here for family dinner parties. Was craving banh canh cua so I went on yelp to find a restaurant to fix my cravings. The first location apparently closed so this was my second option. Called in my order ahead of time for pick up. I didnt expect that they were going to have a minimum for card purchases but luckily the guy was nice enough to still charge my card for $10.45. Their minimum is $20 for any card purchases by the way. Grabbed my order and was surprised that my bag was so small but driving home, I just hoped they got my order right cause I was expecting the noodles to be separated from my soup. Came home&noticed they combined my noodles&soup together. I wish they had separated it because it definitely made my noodles soggy and hard to eat. The soup was good. Its that thick clear tart-y taste. Their crab is a clump/ball of crab meatloaf like texture.
