I absolutely love banh cuon and would definitely return just for theirs! I've had Tay Ho a few times in the past, but recently I bought a Surprise Pack from TooGoodToGo. Theirs sell out pretty fast and I can see why; you get a lot of banh cuon and other specialty banh uot for less than 10$. The only thing I dinged them a star for is for the amount of nuoc mam you get. There is a lot in a bundle and their standard sauce container is enough for probably two people. The TGTG stuff is more than enough to feed 4 mouths. Since you only get 1 sauce cup per order, you'll need to make your own or outsource it somewhere else if sharing with more people. I don't know if they have an option to buy more. read more

Picked up lunch here for the first time. The food is nicely packaged in a box with veggies and a cup of fish sauce. The food looked good but I didn't like the meat slices. My bf and I came here for a quick take out and were in and out within 15 minutes. There was no line so we were able to order right away. They accept card payment, there's ample free parking in the plaza and there's several tables in the store to dine in. Food 3/5: we ordered their house special set and split it between two people. in terms of portions, it was good because i felt content even after splitting the food with my bf. the taste was okay, nothing too special. i did like their fried sweet potato, the nuoc mam and the take away packaging. ambience 4/5: the restaurant is nice, clean and convenient. it's a bit bland in terms of decoration. it's a very clean simple store, there's not much character to it other than the take away box. service 5/5: the service was quick! staff was also really nice. no complaints from that front :) not sure if i would come again just because i feel like there's a bunch of local viet restaurants in the area that sells this dish with more substance and for cheaper. but i do like this place as a quick and light take out if that's what you're looking for. read more

I was craving some banh xeo and banh cuon the other night, so I decided to stop by Tay Ho. I called in my order for pickup and when I arrived everything was packed nicely and ready to go. I got the pork and shrimp banh xeo. It was a pretty big portion and came with fresh veggies on the side for wrapping. I also opted for the spicy fish sauce. Even after getting home, the banh xeo was still crispy and had a good amount of filling inside. My only issue was that it was a little on the oily side. I also ordered the Tay Ho Banh Cuon Set, which comes with classic rice crepes, pork and mushroom rolls, ground shrimp rolls, Vietnamese ham, and shrimp and sweet potato fritters. This was really good. The rice crepes were made very well and the spicy fish sauce paired perfectly with everything. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal and I would definitely order it again. TLDR: Banh xeo and banh cuon are solid picks: flavorful, comforting, and consistent. The wings and bun were disappointing, especially with soggy wings and burnt pork, quality hit or miss this time around We decided to order from Tay Ho again since I was craving their banh xeo. It's just as I remembered, crispy edges with a saucy, flavorful interior that makes it stand out from the traditional style. Appreciate the improvement with more pork belly in the banh xeo. The lettuce this time wasn't the freshest, but the herbs (mint and shiso) were great. The banh cuon is always a reliable favorite, and we especially love the crispy sweet potato shrimp fritter that comes with it, definitely worth ordering again. We tried a couple of new dishes this time: the Viet-style chicken wings and the bun Tay Ho. Unfortunately, both missed the mark. The wings lacked the bold garlic-fish sauce flavor we expected and arrived soggy (hard to review as we got the food delivered), rating them about a 2/5. The bun was decent at best (3/5), but most of the pork pieces were burnt, which made it hard to enjoy. Ordered a Too Good to Go Bag and was so excited! I got there around 7:45pm so it was completely empty. Once I arrived, the lady that was near the counter had her back facing me and completely ignored me for at least 5 minutes even though I tried to get her attention by saying hi and even knocking on the counter. After 5-10 minutes passed, she finally acknowledged me without an apology and gave me my TGTG box. Inside the box was a huge amount of pork rice rolls and I thought it was such a good deal for $5.99! Delicious lunch from San Gabriel, Los Angeles, California... I won two entrées from a Valentine's Day Instagram contest and Tay Ho was so kind as to let me redeem my prize in May! They clarified and understood that I would be in Los Angeles in May... not March... which are months apart! Tay Ho has two locations and I chose the San Gabriel one. It has a free, shared parking lot and a cozy, clean interior. The cashier was efficient and friendly! She told me that my order would take about ten minutes because bahn mi sandwiches are made fresh! I watched part of my Veggie Bahn Mi being made. The chef was careful with the ingredients! I appreciated the toasty exterior of the bread and the fluffy interior. The pickled veggies added the flavor and crunch to the sandwich. The cucumber and parsley were fresh! I liked the mushrooms and tofu - I felt like I was eating healthy! I couldn't believe that this sandwich was just $7.00! It was gigantic... like 16 inches? I didn't have a ruler, but I believe it was more than 12 inches, for sure! Wow! What a deal! I grew up eating banh uot from Tay Ho in Westminster, so I was excited to see a location pop up in San Gabriel. I work in LA now and there's not exactly an abundance of banh cuon places in 626. The few that are there close earlier than I get off work, and Tay Ho San Gabriel closes at 8. So on days that I'm in the office, Tay Ho San Gabriel is literally the only place I can get banh cuon or banh uot in SGV.  I ordered online a few hours ahead of time and set my pick-up time for 7:20. The food was waiting for us on the counter when we arrived. I wish that there was table service available, but this place is a takeout spot. There are, however, a couple of tables inside for anyone that wants to eat there (which we did). Also, there is no bathroom for customers, so dining there was not the most comfortable option. For a takeout spot though, this was pretty good. The packaging and branding is really cute, and if I were to have this delivered to me via a food delivery app, I wouldn't be mad. I love/hate the assemblable chopsticks because they are so cute and look like lego lightsabers but are so flimsy and frustrating to eat with. I also think that the food, although still yummy and perfectly edible, did not exactly taste the freshest, probably because it is a takeout joint. Also, I really liked my lychee green tea.  For the foreseeable future, I will continue to order from this location for my banh cuon cravings when I go in the office... because this is literally my only option. read more

This place is pretty dang good! If I lived nearby, I would probably stop by once a week. I got the Banh Mi Cha Lua and Banh Cuon Special. The sandwich was delicious. The bread has more bounce than the usual banh mi bread. The materials inside were really good too. The Banh Cuon was delicious as well. They gave me a mix of fried sweet potato, egg roll, sausage, steamed cha lua, fried cha lua, banh cuon with carrots, plain banh cuon, and banh cuon with ground meat. Dip everything in the sauce and I was loving it. At first, I was skeptical of this place being any good. I only stopped by because they were one of the very few banh mi shops open past 7pm and I wanted to bring something back home since I was in the area. We've been loyal customers to Tayho ever since they opened here in SG couple years back. We ALWAYS ordered delivery so we're not sure how it is dining in. Food is overall good, but definitely not what we were used to before. It's really starting to disappoint us as time goes on. First of all, they raised the prices which is understandable, but giving less portion is a bit unexpected to say the least. We usually get the shrimp sets with added Vietnamese ham (additional $3, was $2 before) They provided 3 pieces of ham - $1 per piece FYI; it used to be $2, come with at least 5-6 pieces. This is real cheap as we know the whole entire roll of ham isn't costly so $3 for 3 pieces is not acceptable. Dipping sauce was also included in the meal before. Now you'd need to buy on the side. Tay Ho in San Gabriel has done genius packaging to age old Vietnamese cuisine. Box printed in vibrant blue, orange, white. Inside plastic tray is divided to perfectly fit in all the comestibles looking like a circuit board. The box is placed in an orange mesh bag inscribed with the Tay Ho logo and presented with a bit of flair.  My wish was to have the flavours to be commensurate to what was in the bespoke box. However, I found it to be a mixed bag.  *1) Banh Uot: Springy, satiny soft, translucent, steamed rice crêpes with a mild snap. Well executed to the point the "skins" don't stick together into a gooey mess even hours after purchase. These square Crêpes are used as wrappers for various ingredients in the box.  *2) Nuoc Cham: Excellent sweetened Nuoc Mam/fish sauce with possibly a touch of vinegar to add Gastrique. Great condiment to enliven & awaken hidden flavours for dishes in the box.  3) Sliced, dried garlic has a nutty taste & texture to be placed at a whim.  *3) Nem Nuong is exemplary: meaty, rough ground pork sausage, fatty in a good way infused with strong garlic, Nuoc Mam. So sad that it was sooo small.  I put bits of sausage in a sheet of Banh Uot with a bit of the veggie mix of blanched bean sprouts, julienned cucumber, cilantro, possibly chopped Vietnamese "Shiso" tasting like basil.   3) Cha Lua: Steamed pork terrine is cut up into thicker slices to be put wrapped up in the Banh Uot or by itself. Rather bland and lacking in Nuoc Mam Umami.  I got desperate so I cut up the Cha Lua and soaked them in the Nuoc Cham for them to absorb more tasty flavour.  4) Banh Cuon Thit Nuong: Banh Uot stuffed with a filling of ground pork, cloud ear fungus which was disappointingly bland, crumbly dry, tasteless even after applying Nuoc Cham.  5) Cha Gio: Ground Shrimp fried egg roll. Wheat covering so it fries with a softer, bready texture. Unlike rice covering which fries into a shattering crispness. The filling is supposedly shrimp but seems more like finely ground, not well seasoned pork.  Not just fried. It seems left out for a long time so whatever crispness it had was long gone.  6) Banh Tom: Shredded sweet potato & small shrimp fritters were pre-fried, cold, stale picking up ambient moisture. They have a variety of options to choose from that includes garlic noodles, crispy crepes (banh xeo), pho, specialty rolls (banh cuon) and steamed rice plates. I ordered the tay ho banh cuon set, garlic noodles with steak, crispy crepe, chicken wings and che ba mau (tri color dessert). In my opinion, the fish sauce makes or breaks the banh cuon plates and they have two options to choose from: spicy or non spicy. I opted for spicy, but the spice was more mild so added sriracha for an extra pop of spice. It comes with cold meatloaf, bean sprouts, and crispy fritters. The banh xeo is sooo crispy, and it stayed crispy during my drive home! The vegetables and herbs were fresh. I didnt know the viet style chicken wings were flavored with fish sauce so it was a nice surprise. It comes with a side of pickled carrots and daikon. It got soft on my ride home but i popped it in the airfryer to crisp it up. It didnt get as crispy as I would have liked, so I would recommend asking for the sauce on the side if you dont plan on eating it right away. The garlic noodles and steak was delicious. I had been craving bank cuon for a while and Tay Ho really did satisfy my cravings. The rice rolls were bouncy/chewy and the fillings were perfectly seasoned, both the shrimp floss and the pork and wood-ear mushroom. The sweet potato and shrimp cake was crunchy and not at all oily, and so is the spring roll. I was in the area and I wanted to pick up a tasty lunch for my parents. Tay Ho - San Gabriel was a close distance to me. At first I planned to pre-order through the Yelp app in partnership with GrubHub but the prices were crazy more expensive than simple inflation, so I decided to go to the store to order. Less efficient but saved a lot of money. This location of Tay Ho is located in a plaza with extremely tight parking. The business itself was tiny, a counter with a few highchairs along the wall, but definitely not comfortable. Their set up is intended for a take-out business model. I ordered 2 Tay Ho Banh Cuon Set ($12.95/each) for my mom and me, a 2-piece Pork and Shrimp Banh Xeo ($21.50) for my dad, and a side order of their Shrimp and Sweet Potato Fritter to share. I also ordered a Lychee Green Tea ($4.95) for the drive back. The food was delicious. My whole family was happy with our meals. The Tay Ho banh cuon set had a nice variety of the class rice sheets, the pork and mushroom rice sheets, and the ground shrimp rice sheets. It also had a few types of Vietnamese hams and the shrimp and sweet potato fritter. It also had bean sprouts, cucumbers, cilantro, fried onions, and of course nuoc mam, aka fish sauce. Yummmm! This place is the perfect choice for Vietnamese takeout. I love their takeout box. It's so convenient and the food is so comforting. The presentation of the food makes it look so appetizing. The price is reasonable, and the portions are good. I'd got the grilled pork roll set, ube coffee, grilled pork com and banh xeo pork and shrimp. The coffee had enough caffeine to last me for days. All the food was delicious and I can't tell which one was my favorite. I do think picking the grilled pork dishes is the way to go. Their pork has a good grilled flavor. Most places don't have the grill flavor for their pork dishes, but this one does. Also, their fish sauce/dipping sauce is delicious! My mom really enjoyed the meal and that says a lot. Banh cuon is one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes and I used to go with my mom all the way to Westminster to get the original location, and let me tell you it was worth it everytime! I LOVE that we have a Tay Ho location in the 626 now! And what's better is I don't have to rely on my mom to order anymore. Everything is translated and tastes exactly the same as the one in Westminster. The packaging is well thought out and organized. The nuoc mam is perfect, the fried sweet potato is my favorite and everything was fresh. The only downside is the price. I think they made it a bit fancier and upped the price but tbh if the food is good I don't care about packaging. Ordered on Uber eats and had no issues but I'm not sure about service in the restaurant. read more

I grew up eating at their original San Gabriel location and I've touted Banh Uot as being my favorite food in the world--and that's all attributed to this gem! I was devastated when they closed the San Gabriel location and I went a couple years without... But I miraculously randomly found them on Uber Eats one day when I revisited the area and I was absolutely stoked! My meal came in a beautiful orange reusable tote. The food was packaged in a striking orange box with bold and modern type face (I have a design background, so I nerd out). Essentially, the meal is packaged like a bento. Very presentable. Food is as amazing as I remember it. They have Vegetarian and Vegan options and to my surprise, they have other staple Vietnamese goodles like Pho and Banh Xeo. The Banh Xeo done extra crispy has been one of the best Banh Xeo I ever had thus far! The staff and owners are very friendly and I was raving about their rebrand when I finally came to the quaint little shop in person. I told her (the daughter, I think) they did an amazing job. Even the eating utensils are top notch, reusable and portable. They're as good quality as your non disposable chopsticks and soup spoons! They are definitely going to be the next Panda Express! Modernized take on banh cuon! The food itself is good, I enjoyed the Tay Ho combo with banh cuon, eggroll, sausage, and shrimp sweet potato fritter. One of the few places in the SGV that serves traditional banh cuon (Vietnamese rice rolls). We got the classic pork and mushroom banh cuon, the Vietnamese crispy crepe and the appetizer shrimps. The banh cuon is nicely flavor and the rice rolls have a good texture. The dish comes with sweet potato fritters which is a plus. It's so crispy and goes well with the banh cuon. The appetizer shrimps are good as well. The flavor is nice. Tips for takeout, put the shrimps in an air fryer for a few minutes and they will get super nice and crispy. I also tried the pandan vietnamese ice coffee. Didnt think pandan would go so well with coffee. The sweetness is not overwhelming and not too creamy. Its a perfect blend of vietnamese and pandan cream. Highly recommend. read more
