On a SGV Bahn Mi crawl, this was my seventh and final stop. Mr. Baguette was initially not on my list as I wanted to try more locally owned, higher reviewed and less commercialized restaurants. However, on Reddit, I saw a review that said out of all the SGV spots, they find themselves going back to Mr. Baguette the most frequently. I'm so glad I listened because while I hate to admit it, I wholeheartedly agree. This also reinforces my lasting impression that high reviews on Yelp or Google doesn't necessarily mean much as some of my favorite restaurants are rated similarly to Mr. Baguette. This was my absolute favorite for the Special Sandwich or Dac Biet on this Bahn Mi food crawl that I've tried. Also, compared to Lee's Sandwiches which is even more commercialized, Mr. Baguette knocks them out of park! I guess I saved the best for last. Their bread is my exact preference, the type that will cut the roof of your mouth crust without being stale, a good medium soft interior without being too thin or too bready. Their cold cuts are delicious. Just shy of a little pate for the prefect Bahn mi but you can add more for an additional cost. You can request extra mayo, cilantro and peppers for free which I highly recommend. The sandwiches are assembled and neatly layered in a very aesthetically pleasing way but also so you get consistent bites each and every time. The staff was nice and even asked if I wanted their current promotion instead which comes with the sandwich and also a drink of your choice which would save you some money vs. ordering them separately but I'm trying to cut down the sugar so I opted for just the sandwich. I stopped by for lunch, and it wasn't crowded at all. It seemed empty because there was a lot of space and empty tables. Half of the bakery case was empty too. I got the cold cut combo with #1 sandwich and iced milk coffee for $12.50. They called my number literally within one minute. Super fast when they're not busy. Sandwich was good. The bread was pretty hard and small (diameter wise), but it's not terrible at all, sandwich was pretty long. It really depends how you like the bread and its use. Obviously, this is better eaten day of. Banh mi was decent. I don't hate it. Loved the pate in the sandwich. I do know some family member who loves this type of bread over the fluffy soft bread, so I'd recommend this for anyone who likes a more crunchy bread. I didn't realize how long the baguette was but that was fine. I needed some for Vietnamese beef stew at home. Growing up, this was my favorite bánh mì spot, and it still holds that title today. While prices have gone up significantly over the years, the taste remains second to none. There's a few things I love about this place that just makes it stand out: 1. They have special meal combos or promos going on one after the other, AND they provide an end date for those promos. So you let people know in advance when it goes on until. I have seen places where they only say limited time and I don't like it. Like what if I drive all the way there and they say no more? So THANK YOU MR BAGUETTE or whoever that came up with this idea of not only having promos but stating when they end and have a set date!! And the promo usually last quite a good amount of time which I like, so most people have the chance and time to try out. 2. I love the pickled radish already in the sealed bag. The only con is I noticed when I pick up my banh mi at the counter, the tip of my banh mi is touching the counter, because the bag does not fully cover the whole banh mi. I would find a way to improve that. But I love this little corner baguette shop, they put a good amount of pate and mayo and that makes the sandwich good. So pls continue to do that. This used to be my favorite spot for Vietnamese sandwiches, but since the pandemic, the quality has declined slightly. The baguettes just don't taste the same to me--I used to love the bread here more than anything else. I'd often pick up two loaves and some really good butter, finish one baguette pretty quickly, and save the second to make sandwiches the next day. But that second loaf turned into a brick overnight. This place probably have the longest banh mi compared to other banh mi places in the area. The shop was very spacious and had a nice big window. I ordered the cold cut and my friend ordered a vegan banh mi! They also sell some of the ham they use in the sandwiches and the vegan ham they use as well. They give a good portion of hams in the sandwich. They also had other items on display like croissants and they were HUGE. I've been coming here for years and order the exact same thing so I know when it's off. They've never made mistakes on my order except the last two times so I'm not sure what's going on. I paid the surcharge on my online order to add extra pate to my sandwich but they didn't add it on my last two visits. I decided to call to get a refund on the surcharge the second time it happened. The lady who picked up said she wrote "extra pate" on the bag and the sandwich with the extra pate had it spread on both sides of the bread. This version had no peanut, but I still think this is the 2nd best banh mi I have had in the SGV (San Gabriel Valley) area. Lastly the sandwich was a foot long and not one of those 6-inch sandwiches. Iced Milk Coffee (6 oz concentrate - $5): Another slightly more pricy item comparing with other shops that also sell Vietnamese iced coffee. The drink tasted very concentrated and overly sweet for my taste. It is a good drink for anyone who wants extra caffeine.
