    Sandwich

Came in for a quick sub and we were the only people in the restaurant. We ordered one sandwich to split and oh my goodness how long it took. It was only two teenage boys working, but how long does a sandwich take.... We waited for well over 15 minutes and when we got our sandwich it was okay. Nothing super amazing. Not bad. Not really worth coming back. We had a toddler with us so we are really living off borrowed time until he gets bored and wants to run off. Unfortunately this place took too long for a mediocre lunch. Not sure we will be back soon

This was my absolute favorite sandwich shop when I use to work at the ATT store! This was over 10 years ago and I lived in Reno, but I would still go by when I was in town. I've moved to Vegas and I am usually never in Carson... but we happen to be over there so I wanted to see if it was still there. I was SO excited to stop in and get a sandwich. I immediately knew something had changed when I walked in because we weren't greeted at all and the 2 lady's just looked at us and said to give them a minute. I ordered a turkey sub, the same as I use to. My husband got a Philly and we got some onion rings. I looked at yelp while we waited for our food and saw the owner had sold the business - but I was hoping that they kept the same menu. My favorite part of the old sandwich was the bread and the shaker... neither of those things are being used. The bread was the best bread ever.. period... I'll die on that hill. The sandwich was good. Nothing special but it did taste good and had a lot of filling. My husband liked the Philly a lot and said that he would order it again. I forgot to get a pic :( The star for me were the onion rings lol. I am a sucker for thin and lightly battered onion rings. The service leaves a lot to be desired. We were the only ones there when we came in and they weren't very friendly. A far cry from the previous order who always had a smile and was always happy to see people walk through the door. I probably won't return, but if I did it would be for the onion rings.

Great service, but I wish I would have asked for more seasoning. One thing I love about ordering Philly cheesesteak is all the extras. My sandwich was served hot, but was bland and lacked Cheese and overall flavor. The girl working the counter was sweet, but wish I would have asked for extra salt and pepper and ordered extra cheese. Quiet shop and restrooms were clean. Overall love that this is locally owned shop. I'll be back, but will need to fine tune my preferences upon my next order. I've spent more time in Carson lately and I know I'll be back sooner than later.

This is what they call a tamale

We ordered tamales from this sandwich place thinking we would actually get tamales but instead we got soggy corn musk filled with mushy refried beans rice with sour chili and cold cheese on top. Super disgusting. Calling this a tamale is a false representation of what it really is a mushy mess.

    Burger was made with love.

I ordered a burger, and the burger itself was good. I think it's odd it asks for a tip when you pay, because it's not full service and when I went to look for a place to sit, the tables were dirty, and no one else was at the restaurant, so they could have wiped the tables, or offered to wipe one before I sat down. I grabbed a Tabasco to add some hot sauce to my burger. It was super crusty. Dirty table dirty hot sauce bottle in an empty restaurant. During down time it's a good idea to wipe down tables and clean a bit. There was only two Tabasco bottles, so cleaning them wouldn't have taken long. It looked super dried on the bottle at the opening, as if it hasn't been cleaned in a long time. This is a cool spot, but the cleanliness was disappointing. If you're in the area it might be worth a try if you don't mind. If it was busy I would have understood it being a bit dirty, but it was empty. It was $8 for the burger and I tipped $1. Didn't think the service and food were worth that $9. I was still hungry after.

My favorite veggie deli option in Carson City. They no longer have a veggie burger that people previously mentioned in reviews, but they can put everything on the sub, including cheese, avocado and mushrooms.

Downhill. Downhill. Downhill. New ownership has no semblance of community. No love, no care. No respect for the legacy this place had. Slopped together nonsense passed off as a beloved staple of the area. Owners should be ashamed with continuing the name they bought. If you're not gonna change your practices - at least change the name, so as not to confuse passerby's that this is what they remember. Sandwich was mis-portioned, ingredients forgotten, scant toppings, and hard bread. You're better off at Subway. At least there you'll get what's expected instead of a letdown the likes of which only the 2015 Packers and their fans in the NFC Championship game have ever seen. Mid.

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT as of May/June 2023. They're trying to serve the same menu but they cannot serve the passion and love that Frazier put into his food. I ordered a pastrami sandwich. Bun not steamed, not same bread, not same pastrami, white wine sauce (definitely not the same mix). I ordered extra meat and still there was too much bread. Ordered onion rings and they put them in the oven because they no longer have a deep fryer. My onions rings were soft, bready, no crunch. Awful. A quarter of they're menu is fried!!! How do they not have a fryer but they have tablet to take your order. Lol insane. Try at your own risk, we will not be returning. (7/1/2023).

    Main lobby and seating area.

You can only purchase bottle drinks. They don't have cups of water. Only one employee was working. Very clean and quiet. No music playing. Also the menu was not up-to-date.

Outside seating if you want to bring a dog?

For such a small, out of the way place, the food was excellent! We shared a large sandwich and it was plenty! I'd go back in a heartbeat!

I asked if they did half sandwiches in an effort to keep my calorie consumption to a reasonable level. They said yes we do make half sandwich sandwiches.. that was awesome but also the homemade banana bread said calories don't count - and a little "eat me" sign was floating above the banana bread visible only to me of course. I ended up getting half the Bart attack on sliced marble rye, and a corner piece of the chocolate chip banana bread. I ate it outside the patio, adorable tables and umbrellas. Such a gorgeous break from driving and eat something so delicious. It was like my grandma made it, full of love and flavor! Here is what we noticed: - It's a pretty unassuming place...we parked in the side lot and walked around to their main entrance. They even had some specials highlighted as we entered. - Inside there is lots of seating...when we arrived the front of the place was empty, but people were sitting there when we left and we noticed that it is much quieter in that section of the restaurant than in the main dining room. - As others have noted, chorizo is their specialty and it's in many of the dishes. And, it is worth it!...and, not spicy like you might think of chorizo. My wife and I ordered the Quesadilla and the Basque Omelette, and we split both (plus, we took some home too). Each dish was really good in its own right, and being able to have the chorizo prepared two ways was great. Their home fries were really tasty too. - Service was good....very attentive, especially considering that it took us a while to decide what to order given the breadth of the menu. - We paid cash because of their sign indicating that that was preferred. Bottom line: We'd go back to Villa Basque Cafe anytime we're in Carson City...next time, we'd like to try some of their lunch options!

The hubby was going to run an errand, so I placed a takeout order thru DD so he could pick it up afterwards. I don't think they have a website, so we just chose DD to place the order. Yes, I was too lazy to call. My bagel and lox was good. The bagel was chewy and had good flavor, tho it was a lil over toasted. Some of the everything bagel seasoning was burnt. The pickle was standard. Tho at $1.50 I thought a lil pricey. The hubs got the other two items. He seemed to enjoy them. He wanted a lil contrast to his pastrami sando, so added some dijon mustard we had at home. Decent pricing for bagels and sandwiches. Would come again if the smoked salmon bagel craving hits.
