    The Savage Burger

The Savage burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had. My wife's French Dip was superb! We kept trading back and forth. The service is exceptional. The country ambiance is what you'd expect in this old mining town. Well worth the drive.

Found this new Grill spot that just opened in Virginia City . And it's right on the Main Street with all the shops . It has a fair amount of seating and service was excellent . The decorations really fit in with the style of the town . The food was soo good!! Flavorful and giant portions . My favorite were the fries, soo yummy. Definitely a good spot if you're hungry .

    Hot dog

GREAT HOT DOG. Really fun spot. We only tried the hotdogs so I can't speak to the rest of the food but compared to other food we had on the strip I would have rather eaten here. The people are so nice and friendly and made us feel so welcome. I recommend this over other spots in Virginia City.

    Ribeye sandwich with sidewinder fries

The food, service, and ambiance of this quaint grill in this small town was outstanding. We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, garden salad, and a ribeye sandwich for lunch. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend this Savage Grill. My ribeye steak sandwich came with sidewinder fries. This building is full of history as owner David Cass and his wife will tell you. Enjoy!

Best place in Virginia City to have lunch! David and his wife were so welcoming. Food is also amazing! Their sidewinder fries are the best in town.

I'm not…read morea regular coffee drinker, but I was looking to get my iced brew fix and there aren't many options in town. You have to drive into Reno or Carson City to hit up a Starbucks or comparable coffee place. I heard from locals about The Roasting House. I saw pics of celebrities like Terrance Howard and Jeremy Renner sitting on the quaint little bar stools inside. Roasting House has officially entered the coffee chat room! On my first visit, I saw that the Iced Brew special was Carrot Cake. Um? Only my favorite cake! I had the best timing and hit the jackpot! Of course that's what I ordered. It was delicious! The decor is absolutely adorable. It's like a beautiful Victorian feel to it. It has beautiful furniture, pictures on the wall, and they have coffee, jewelry for sale and other items. Additionally, they roast their coffee beans on-site with a large vintage roasting machine towards the back of the shop. The place definitely has an elegant, antique-like ambience that fits perfectly with VC. They also serve various baked goods, bagel sandwiches and other breakfast items. You will have a great start to your day by coming here first. Service is impeccable and the staff is super friendly. As you go towards the rear of the shop, there is a beautiful patio that overlooks Virginia city and the streets below C Street. It's a perfect place to sit and enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast item. It's very peaceful with beautiful scenery and they've added some rustic patio furniture. I've been back a couple times and the prices are really good. I'm from the Bay Area and compared to where I'm from the prices are more than reasonable for coffee. This is a place not to be missed when you visit Virginia City!

The service was great and the remodeling of the restaurant into the steakhouse turned out really nice. They do table side salads, entrees and desserts. We chose to order a standard meal. We went as a group of 20 for their prix fix New Years Eve dinner. The food was good but not great…read more The amuse bouche was very good. The 1st course was a choice of the foie gras (good but had an inordinate amount of fig jam on top) or escargot (very good). The second course was French onion soup or Niçoise salad. Both were very good. The third course was a choice of poached sole with hollandaise (the hollandaise was extremely spicy and way over powered the delicate sole. The sole was cooked until it was mushy) or roasted chicken in brown sauce (some were very good and others were dry and overcooked). The fourth course was roasted marrow bones with golden raisins and brie with lingonberry. Good but very rich. The fifth course was beef bourguinon that was excellent. For dessert we had crepe Suzette's that were okay but very sweet and paired with an extremely sweet ice wine. Too much sweet on sweet. Some hot bread and butter, others didn't. Same with water, some glasses were empty and never filled. Overall it was way too much food for me. It said $150 all inclusive so we assumed that meant tax and tip was included. We were wrong. When we got the bill they added tax and 20% gratuity. Then on top of that they charged 3% for paying with a credit card. It ended up being a $400 dinner. That was more than we anticipated in Virginia City. Additionally, apparently they ran out of one of the wines and some people were offered a different one and then got charged $20/glass for it. All in all, it was fun (more because of the company than the experience), the food was mostly good and the atmosphere was nice and service was okay. I felt bad for other couples trying to have a romantic NYE dinner and having to sit next to a group of 20. We'll choose a different location next year.

We think there may have been some recent movements by the owners, and for the purposes of this review, I'll go with this Yelp entry the matches the pictures to what we experienced. Today was a quiet post-New Years day and Gayle wanted to dine someplace besides the Red Dog Saloon (our "usual"). The Canvas Cafe (or whatever it's called now) was just a block or so down C street and open. The dining room was small, cute, inviting, and warm. It was also a "one man show" today as one guy was working both the kitchen and the dining room (and very well). I especially appreciate a really busy guy who maintained a relatively high service level, with a smile and a generous side of patience. We all ordered sandwiches, including French Dip for Gayle, Smash Burger for Darling Granddaughter, and a grilled Chicken Pesto for me. Everything was delicious, with my only regret being that I should have ordered the impressive side salad that Gayle chose. A small bag of chips really didn't do the sandwich justice. I would have also preferred a beer, but there was no alcohol served today, and my bottomless glass of lemonade was more than just fine. Gayle and I agreed that we'd love to come back in whatever main place or annex. It's a fair drive back to Genoa from VC, and we were happy to head down the hill full and happy.
