Disappointed that these folks seem to follow the Subway/Port of Subs approach where the sandwich has a basic load of meat and cheese and then they make you call out whatever other items you want (with no way of knowing what they have available). A hoagie is a hoagie - I guess a guy could add black olives and jalapenos if they wanted, but it wouldn't be a hoagie anymore, it would be some kind of italian cold cut sandwich with various vegetables. I decided to have lunch at U.S. Sub Base today. I haven't been there since Frasier sold the business. The menu looked the same with a few additions. I arrived at 11:50 - before the lunch crowd and I was the only person in there. I gave my 2 sandwich order and waited 40 minutes - yes 40 minutes. Meanwhile 2 door dashes came in and got their orders (I realize those orders were probably ahead of me) and 4 other people. EVERYONE got their orders before me. Finally, a gal asked me what I ordered. I asked her to tell me what I ordered and where was it. It's been 40 minutes. It took all 3 of the staff to make my order. This would have never happened with Frasier running the place. Further, while I was waiting a young man working there arrived. He was telling another gal what he did the night before. The "F" bomb was flying. I've heard the word before and have used it on occasion myself, but never in a business environment. Needless to say, I will never go back there. read more

Ok sandwich shop. However, it has lost its magic. My wife is from Carson, and she introduced me, a Californian, to this shop. We were married in 2013, and we always kept U.S. Sub Base on our radar (ha!). Frankly, we went there for the Diver Down and, for me, the Italian Destroyer. On our most recent visit, we found out that the original owner sold. My wife actually cried... And, the Diver Down had changed. Different meat, different presentation: mostly veggies. Same for my Destroyer: barely any meat. Now, I don't often post. But, this is definitely a post of disappointment and loss. Loss for what was once good. Memories gone. I understand that people retire. That people sell. But, if you want to maintain a customer base, don't change what worked! Keep it the same, for crying out loud! Don't cut corners. Don't think you know what's best. While you might be an intelligent person, you haven't gotten a Diver Down and a Destroyer for over 10 years (and expect it to taste like the one you got over 10 years ago!). read more

Don't bother. This place was amazing, until they came under new management. I'd say give them a chance to work out the kinks, but no. The food vendors are clearly different. The meat is awful, the wine sauce isn't sauce, it's oil, the bead is trash. On top of everything, they still have a full fried food menu and THERE IS NO DEEP FRYER IN THE REASTAURANT! The first time coming to this shop we were craving a sandwich. We had no idea how amazing it would be! A little hole in the wall, but those are always the best, right? Yum! Delicious, sub sandwiches with excessive meat and toppings. My sandwich was packed with so much yummy goodness and while everything tasted fresh, I did find the bread to be a little bit dry. I finally tried US subs for an early lunch. I ordered a pastrami sandwich. I've eaten a LOT of sandwiches over the years. This was a good sandwich, I've had better pastramis in urban areas. But what earned US Subs 4 stars was the obvious pride and care of the making of the sandwich. Everything was very fresh, the tomatoes were thickly sliced, lettuce crispy, roll was thick but soft. The pastrami was good. I will be back, but I'll order the Italian sub. I've a hunch the deli meats and vegetables will pair very well with the fresh hoagie roll. Since the owner retired, and a new owner took over, they really messed everything up. My son's Depth Charge was lacking. It was dry. A couple Meatballs, Pepperoni and unmelted cheese. My husband's pastrami was dry. The bread was hard. The fries were not fries! They were thick curly potato wedges and they were undercooked. My lettuce wrapped bacon avocado cheeseburger was $20 by itself!!! $2.00 was added to lettuce wrap it, $2.00 for each slice of cheese, $2.00 for avocado... ridiculous. They lost us. My first and last here and I didn't even purchase anything. I came in after reading reviews to give a shot anyways cause I love to support small businesses. When I walked in there was a customer ahead of me being helped by who I would assume was the manager. She was an older woman and I was checking out the menu I overhead the conversation between them. The customer said something that I didn't quite catch but the manager (I assume) responded " well I think that pin pad is actually trying to tell you something" and this was said in a pretty snarky manner. As someone who has worked in customer service as staff and a manager I was appalled that was her response to this sweet customer. I didn't get to say my peace about this to her face cause I just decided to leave and not support a business that's going to talk to their customers, especially older customers this way. I'm sure the food is good but unless the management gets a better grip on how to speak to people I most likely won't be returning. It's so sad how this place has changed. Spent a fortune on two sandwiches yesterday and both were inedible and got tossed out. The bread was thick and hard, the meat sub par, and the toppings were just blah. The guy working was super nice but he was all by himself and kept apologizing for it taking so long. Totally not his fault, also not his fault the quality of the products he used. We have given them three chances since ownership changed and honestly it was two too many. This is a pricey sandwich place that was okay. We got the Philly cheesesteak and the meatball sandwich. They were a decent size sandwich but on the average side for taste. We also ordered fries with our sandwich and the fries were thick cut curls. They weren't wedges. Got to give a shout out to this little sandwich spot in Carson City, Nevada. Whenever I'm in town, I always try to make it a point to come here and get a sandwich. This small little "mom and pop" style restaurant serves about 15 different types of sandwiches, both hot and cold. You really can't go wrong with any of their options, but I would recommend the Destroyer or Club if you're going with a cold sandwich or a Pastrami if you're going with a hot sandwich. Everything is cooked to order, and although it seems chaotic, you just have to let the staff know what you want and they will put it together for you. I would recommend trying their wine sauce if you've never had it before. Definitely would recommend stopping in and checking out the place, the owner is usually working at the front counter and is very hospitable. The girls working are scrambling about trying to get everybody fed, and take pride in their food. Side note - their onion rings are battered! read more

Great sandwich, pretty good Philly cheese steak. Nice folks at the counter, probably family-run. They have a good selection of meats and signature sandwiches. I got a roast beef with everything on it, and the sandwich was very good. The bread and the wine sauce, as well as the large portion of meat makes these sandwiches miles ahead of Subway or Port of Subs. My dad got a Philly cheesesteak on top of their hand-cut fries, and he liked it. Does come with American cheese and not provolone, however. As a kid this was my favorite sandwich spot. Which leaves me disappointed to leave this review. Seems to have gone downhill in recent times. Bread was very hard, meat portions are minimal. Mustard was put on my sandwich by mistake. Rather than make a new sandwich, they just pulled the ham that had mustard on it off and replaced it (with gloves that were covered in mustard from pulling the original ham). They had already closed the sandwich so the bread was covered in mustard as well, seemed not to care to correct my order. Sounds like alot of complaining but when im paying $10+ for a sandwich i expect it to be made to my liking. This review is long overdue. I've eaten here several times and each time has been the same... Excellent! To start, the service is amazing, the staff are so nice that the customer service stands out. The first time here, I posted on Facebook that the customer service was the best I'd experienced in a while, still true. It's just a small shop with a couple gals making sandwiches, but I felt welcomed and I won't forget that the lady handed me my sandwich and said, " go relax and enjoy that sandwich," she knew I was tired after a long day. Carson City is my hometown. And though I live in Reno now, I still love visiting for the food I remember eating as a kid. That being said, Carson still has the few places I remember eating lunch at in High School. Let me take you on a journey 10 years ago, to a time when Stephanie was still in High School! Despite having a Wienerschnitzel stand, a Port of Subs stand and a Mom and Pops Diner stand (which is still open) inside the school, the cool thing to do was utilize the schools open campus status to get food and bring it back to class. The main places to go were US Sub Base and China East (also still open)!! Fast forward to today... well the other day to be exact, when my husband and I decided to make a trip in for some of our favorite sandwiches from back in the day. Walking in was pure nostalgia. What's even better, the people who owned it then and worked there then...still fricken do... and they remembered us!!!! They remember Michael mostly but hey I'll take it! They remember how he ordered his sandwich for the longest time but it's been years since we've been in. They commented on how they love seeing kids from back in their high school days, come back to visit now with their own kids. Sitting down to my literally beautiful sandwich, I'll have to admit I got a tad emotional. I had forgotten just how much we loved coming here. Huge meat and veggie portions on fresh bread, jalapeño cream cheese poppers, fried mushrooms, burgers and so much more too. Meh. Been here a number times for lunch whenever I have craved a sandwich (key word) and the deli sandwich (key work again) has been decent. The times it has disappointed was whenever I have decided to try something different. Two times I have orders something outside of a deli sandwich and both times I have been disappointed to say the least. Once it was the chicken tenders which were more like 4 chicken nuggets. The second time was their grilled chicken sandwich, meat quality was garbage and being a foodie (ish) person myself I could tell it was microwave defrosted and then tossed on the grill. Doing that results in a rubber sandwich, not a chicken sandwich. Also I hate places that charge you for everything thing, like water cup, ketchup, and ranch. Like really?
