We try to go to Kimo's at least once, usually from the airport to the hotel. It never disappoints. I've never had anything there that I didn't like. If you like ribs, their Broke Da Mouth is a dish to try. It has ribs, teriyaki chicken, macaroni salad and jasmine rice. Service is always friendly. If you have room for dessert, you have to try the hula pie. read more

This place is not good. We had: fish n chips; and the "broke da mouth" plate. The fish and chips were gross. The fish seemed like it had been frozen and was sort of chewy. The batter was soggy. Yuck. I really liked their menu set up. Fresh fish selection changed by the day, with a suggested preparation. I had an ahi steak which was a hearty portion and so tasty. Could barely finish it! Tried a nibble of my brothers coconut crusted fish it was sooo good! They had a nice live singer with guitar. I have been going to Kimo's for many years and have always loved their food and service, both having been excellent. However, yesterday, 23 May 2021... my opinion of their service was dropped significantly due to the "hostess". I'm elderly and have a handicap that isn't visible, a hip and back issue that makes standing extremely painful... I asked to sit at the bar, was told "wait here while I check" (fine, makes sense). When she returned she said no openings so I asked for a table... 40 minute wait... again, fine... I asked if I could sit and wait on the bench ( about 15 feet from people) for an opening and was told no... I said, "I can't sit and wait"?... no. The Calamari came with 5 tiny pieces of squid, the pork was drier than the skin peeling off of everyone whose ever been sun burned and the service was alright at best. It took 25 minutes to get the entrees and lots of looking around to try and flag down our waitress for water. On top of that the entrees were all so lackluster. My dish was suppose to be jasmine rice, ribs, and chicken. The rice was definitely microwaveable rice that was more squishy and moist then a sponge cake, while the chicken was some of the dryest I've ever eaten. The ribs well they were actually ok they were dry but alright I guess. The silver lining here was the hula pie was good but that's about it. Because my husband and I are on our honeymoon, we got a front row seat upstairs of the ocean and Lanai. It was really nice and appreciated. We started with the Lava Flow and a mango colada. The Lava Flow was absolutely delicious!! I wish I had gotten a second, it was that good. By far my favorite drink I've had on the island. We had the pork tacos for an appetizer and they were delicious. I loved the BBQ sauce on them! I got the Mahi Mahi Parmesan crusted and my husband got the ono "Kimo style" and we also split their Kimo baked potato which was delicious with all the fixings. Both dishes were fantastic and cooked perfectly. Apparently it wasn't communicated we were on our honeymoon to our waitress, as she never acknowledged it or provided us with the complimentary hula pie that all other newlyweds seem to receive. We were next to two tables who had birthdays and they each got a slice. We were honestly too full to order it ourselves, but it would have been a better experience if it had been acknowledged. I wasn't honestly that impressed with the service of our waitress as she seemed to not really care about our experience and seemed rather rushed. My family has been coming to Kimo's for the last 30 years and it has gone downhill to say the least. We eat out all of the time, and coming from Vegas we've seen the best of the best in the service industry, which is why the entire dinner was downright comical. We came in for our 9pm reservation and arrived to find a frazzled mess of a staff. The hostess was far from welcoming to us, showing her annoyance despite us having a reservation. Walking in, the entire restaurant felt hectic and crazed with tables and chairs being slammed around left and right as we sat. While the atmosphere was a mess to begin with, nothing could compare to our server, Evan. He made it VERY clear that he couldn't wait to leave work, from the moment he walked up to us. We had to fight to have a normal dinner experience with him, as we like to go slow and enjoy our time when we go out. He would walk up to our table and literally stare at us until one of us made an assumption about what he wanted us to do... I can't remember the last time I had such an awful server. We were tempted multiple times to ask the hostess if we could have another server because of how rude this employee was acting. He made it uncomfortably clear that he couldn't wait to rush us out of there, and that he could care less whether we had a nice experience at Kimo's or not. He made the night memorable in the worst way possible. I gave it two stars because our drinks were good and the pork ribs were tasty. Although it was tasty, the coconut shrimp was presented like we were eating at a pool-side bar. Overall, it is was an extreme let down thanks to Evan's unforgettable service. Worst dinner ever .. had thanksgiving there and waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive while other guests arrived after we did and were eating dessert before we got our entrees. Food was cold green beans were not cooked . Salad was wilted greens , just the leaves nothing else in the salad . My friend who ordered fish was brought the wrong preparation and sent it back . We took our dessert to go and here was the way it was put in the to go box , upside down . Went here for dinner just before sunset, and got a great table on the second level right by the rail. What a view! Gorgeous sunset between a couple of palm trees growing on the shore. We started with the calamari strips, which rank with the best we have ever had. They're awesome. My wife had the Citrus Herb Monchong fish, and I had the Lobster topped Mahi-Mahi. Mine was really good, hers was even better. They also start you off with some carrot muffins that are great. We found this place every bit as good as the other seafood restaurants on the island that we tried, but the prices are MUCH more reasonable. It's still and expensive evening, but worth it. read more

The chowder was okay and my husband really liked the calamari. For entrees he ordered prime rib and I ordered pork ribs. The prime rib was great I had some too and it was perfect. The pork ribs needed some work. They were not very tender. If they had asked me how it was I probably would have asked for something different. I ate mostly the sides which were great. Kimos! How we used to love your macadamia nut encrusted fish! Then to have a waiter tell us he worked there for 20 years and they never had that on the menu! Really? Lol Still the same great location, still the best place to watch the sunset, still decent happy hour prices (yes, happy hour rules for this reviewer...) and still a wonderful place for dinner. Was looking for a great spot to enjoy our last full day on the Island. I was told that you need to make a reservation the day before if you want a great view. So lucky we took the advice, we showed up just after our reservation time and had no problem getting our seat. The view was spectacular, we got a table right on the railing as the sun was starting to head down. It was perfection. The staff was great, our waitress for the night was prompt and took our drink order right away. She explained their fresh fish options, it can be a little confusing without explanation. We ordered the Mac crusted calamari as an app. It was some of the best calamari I've had, super tender and fresh. You could literally cut it with your knife. For our entrees my wife ordered the shrimp parparadelle(forgive my spelling), I went with the Onaga(red snapper) special. Both were super delicious, the fish was super fresh and was flaky and delicious. Side note, we ate at the other location on Kauai (I believe it's called Duke's) their signature dessert called hula pie is worth it if you have room. We managed to get seated without a reservation right after sunset following a 15 minute wait at the bar. The bar stop allowed me to sample the Mai Thai, which was good. We sat upstairs, with a great view. You could still hear the live music from the bar and the island feel was fantastic. The service was friendly and attentive and not laid back at all, which is something you notice at a few other places in HI. Highly recommended. We will be back. read more

The location is great, the views are aweseome, the food was fantastic (prime rib was high quality and the 36oz portion is yugee). We had a good time at Kimo's for a sunday night dinner barring some glaring faults. The good: Most of the food was very good. Highly suggest the fresh fish options. Kimo style fish was very good (Opa) with the right amount of spices and cooked to perfection. And the hostess was gracious enough to find one of the very best seats in the house for our family of four. Here are the knocks: We waited 25 minutes BEFORE we had our order taken. That starts off any meal with a negative vibe and really didn't apologize or acknowledge the long wait. The place is huge and quite a production. Like a well oiled machine, we were passed to many people throughout the night, from the host, to the table guide, to the drink taker, to the waiter to the busboy. I'm sure its necessary but lacks the intimacy of something you would expect in the spirit of Hawaii. The Shrimp Pappaderelle pasta was much too rich either from excessive amounts of butter and/or salt. The lighting was very dim and hard to read the menu. And the kicker, 12 oz pint glasses! Is it really that much of a splurge to have a 16 oz pint of draft beer for $8? Of course this place is quite pricey but average for the location. I am sure Kimo's in its heyday was a great find when Maui was less populated 20 years ago, but now its so big and well known, we'll be searching for the next Kimo's down the road. read more
