I read reviews here how they destroyed clothes. I ignored those reviews. BIG MISTAKE! Seems like the hook of the pants may have gotten stuck with another clothing and they decided to forcefully yank it out. The result -- it tore through the fabric and destroyed a perfect suit (see attached pic). I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but considering the force needed to tear through the fabric, I cannot reasonably believe this was an unintentional "accident." Showed the damage to them, no apology, and they offered a makeshift solution which was unacceptable. Yes, they are cheap, but what good is a cheap service if they'd render a perfect article of clothing worthless. Consumer beware. read more

I brought in a pair of dress pants with a hole in the crotch that needed to be mended, and these folks did a great job for just $5, which I paid when I dropped off the pants. Am very pleased with the mending job. They asked me when I needed my pants to be finished by, and I said no rush so I got them about 4 business days later. They are flexible with when you come back to pick up, which is customer-friendly. What wasn't so customer-friendly, and I do think is within their power to change: 1) I wish they had an electronic system of record. Had I lost the receipt slip they gave me when I dropped off the pants and paid, I'm not sure I would have been able to get my pants back. 2) Upon drop-off, I asked the employee helping me if they had a bathroom I could use. She talked with the other employees, and they talked amongst each other for a little bit, and then she came back and told me "it's not available." Everything else was great, but I can't give more than three stars to a business that doesn't let respectful and paying customers use their restroom. :( read more

They do a great job with hemming pants. I've taken about 8-10 pairs to them. They do a great job and are very affordable.

Called them and needed to get my pants hemmed for a presentation in the next few days. They immediately got back to me and had them done THE NEXT DAY. Absolutely perfect job. I took in several good quality drapes to be cleaned and hemmed...of the 6 pair only 1 was done to the correct length! And unfortunately the others were 1" to 6 " too short, making then totally unusable! The problem was even greater as I had been asked to pay up front, and when the work was done incorrectly, not only was I blamed for the incredibly costly mishap, the seamstress abs manager refused to bring the owner into the dilemma, as I had requested a refund for the work. In the end it cost me the price of the work - near $300 some, as well as the cost of curtains and the time to replace etc. A total disaster of a job in addition to terrible customer service to reconcile an already giant mishap!! Never will go there again. And DO NOT recommend. read more

If I could have given a negative star rating, I would have. I brought in three dresses to be altered and Jennyfer did the measurements and markings herself. She took my dresses, I paid cash in advance, and was told they would be ready 4 days later after 5pm. When I came back to pick up my dresses Jennyfer informed me that one of my dresses was brought in to her with a huge stain on the back, but she would dry clean it for me. Sidenote: The dress was bought mail order and still had the tags on it. There was no damage to the dress when it was brought in. I looked at the dress and noticed that there were several snags in the fabric and grease stains all over the back. Jennyfer changed her story several times first insisting that she was there when the work was done and then changing her story to say that she didn't know but her seamstress said that it was like that. I have a hard time understanding how the entire back of my dress being covered in grease and several snags in the fabric would have gone unnoticed by me when I was wearing it...let alone by Jennyfer whose face was less than 4 inches from the back of the dress while she was doing measurements. After 2 weeks of Jennyfer "trying" to fix my dress. I finally demanded that my $15 alteration fee be refunded to me and my dress returned. I am now out $48 for a dress that is no longer wearable due to the negligence of her store and unwillingness to rectify the situation. I would warn against using this cleaner/alterations company, because when they make a mistake they will not make good on it. Super disappointing! To comment on Jennyfer's response: 1. We both know the condition the dress was in when I dropped it off. You acknoledged that had it been damaged you would/should have noticed. And...with the extensive noticeable from across the room damage you certainly would have from 4 inches away. 2. The dress was brand new shipped from Kohl's with the tags still on and had just been removed from the plastic shipping bag prior to entering your store...I looked at it and admired myself in the mirror prior to coming out of your dressing room. I would have noticed myself. 3. Your seamstress wouldn't have altered a damaged dress. 4. The dress was not dry cleaned prior to being returned to me. It was dyed. The plastic straps that hang the dress up are now a lovely purple instead of clear. This does not happen in the dry cleaning process. I am assuming that dying the dress was an attempt to hide the multiple snags on the back of the dress from whatever it had been caught in during the time in your shop. This is pointless really as discussing this with you is like arguing with a child. The discussion never really gets anywhere. I only got a refund of my $15 alteration fee when I basically demanded it over the phone today. I am so glad that I will not have to deal with this any longer and definitely will be telling my friends and neighbors to beware of your shop due to clothing damage and poor customer service. I don't believe that you are actually sorry for anything. Also, not that it matters, but I would like you to know that it was my birthday (Aug 12) the day I found out that you ruined my dress and I had planned to wear it out for the celebration that evening. So...thank you for that and the irritation in the weeks that followed. Also, it is really irritating when you tell someone to meet you at your shop at 3:15 to resolve a problem and then you leave them waiting until 3:45. Been here on multiple occasions and have gotten tons of pairs of pants hemmed. The people here are super friendly and they always get my clothes back to me on time. Their hemming work is great for just $7! I find it a little weird that sometimes they change up the color of the string when they do hemming (like the pants have yellow hemming and when I get it back, the bottom is hemmed with dark blue string), but it's never something super offensive - just something that I've noticed that doesn't really bother me. I'm sure if you cared, you could just ask them to use matching string and they'd gladly oblige. I recently also came and got a pair of suit pants tailored. They did the measurements and tapered the pants exactly how I wanted them to be tapered. It cost $22, which, is fine considering it was a nice suite and other places would charge well over that. They are also accommodating when it comes to timing. I asked them if I could rush hem a pair of pants and they said they could get it back to me the next day for just $1 more, which I can really appreciate. Definitely will be back here for all my hemming and tapering needs. Pros: - Great service (super friendly Vietnamese family that runs the place) - Always timely and even offer rush orders for just a little more - Sowing job is well done (nothing's fallen apart even after multiple wears) Cons: - Located in a plaza with a bunch of other businesses and they don't have their own large sign on top of the building so it's very hard to find them if you're going for the first time - Parking is pretty limited read more

I went to this alterations place based on yelp reviews and was very disappointed. they may be great at simple, hems, but this is definitely not a place to take a bridesmaid dress, a wedding dress, or anything you really care about. granted, the dress i brought in was 1-2 sizes too big, but they did EVERYTHING wrong. first, they took in the sides. instead of keeping the dress an A-line shape, they completely took in the side all the way down the skirt and turned the dress into a straight skirt. i'm no expert, but taking in should not change the shape of the dress. they told me it would be ready on saturday. i never got a call saying it was ready to pick up. i called them on sunday to see what was going on. they said, it'll be another 30 minutes. when i went in to try it on, it fit better, but the chest didn't fit at all. it was obvious that they didn't spend very much time on this (30 minutes i'm guessing) because they used brown string on the ivory trim instead of switching to the correct color. when i called back after the 30 minutes to make sure it was really ready, they were rude and told me they didn't know they were supposed to call me to let me know it was ready. they tried to lie and say it was ready on saturday, but i called them out on that. i probably went back about 5 times for fittings and more sloppy work. they attempted to fix the chest by adding darts which made it pucker very badly. they kept telling me it was my bra, the lining of the dress, etc. excuse after excuse. they told me several times there was nothing to be done - impossible they said. i insisted they were an alterations place, and it was their job to fix problems with clothing. finally, they realized they shouldn't have darted it, and decided to try taking it in from the side (as they should have in the first place). it finally fit better, but they had sewn a section below the chest up over the trim. minor detail, but i had to stay for that to be fixed again. the place has no a/c, and it was a hot week that i had to return over and over. i was planning to give 2 stars because they insisted they wanted me to be happy towards the end (1 star for effort?), but they get one because my mother who is not a professional seamstress had to re-do the entire dress to make it wearable. it turns out, the arms were taken up too high so that if i bent over, my arms felt like they were going to be cut off. the rib area was uneven so that it bunched in some areas, and the chest was still off. my mom isn't a professional, but she is patient and picky. sadly, kim's alterations left barely enough fabric for my mom to work with. i really wish they had taken a little more time with this dress so that i wouldn't have to come back 5+ times with 10+ fittings, deal with attitude, and accusations that it was my fault somehow. read more

I am a very short girl (5' and under club), so I ALWAYS need to get my pants hemmed. Back in SD, my mom knew someone who knew someone who knew a guy who did alterations for cheap. It was a home business. You get the idea. So I paid dirt cheap prices for my hemming. I just brought my jeans to the guy's house, tried it on in a makeshift dressing room if I needed to, and he'd do the pinning and have me pick it up within 2 days. Most times he'd have them ready the next day! Cheap and quick. What's not to love? That was what my alterations experience had been like my whole like...until now. Since I'm a fairly new bay area resident, I don't know anyone who knows someone who knows someone who knows a lady that does alterations, so I did some extensive yelp searching to find a cheap place to get my pants hemmed. Don't get me wrong, they did the job just fine, but it was the service and unprofessionalism that merits my 2-star rating. I was just getting some Levi's jeggings hemmed, so I didn't need the fancy original hem. From previous experience with other people, I figured it would only take a couple days. Nope. I brought 3 pairs of jeans, and they told me to pick it up in a week. A week? Really? You need 7 days to hem some pants? Umm...ok. I asked if I could pick up 1 pair sooner, so they said I could pick up the 1 pair on Thursday. (I brought the jeans there on a Monday.) So I come back on Thursday to pick up my jeans, and guess what? They didn't do it! I had some occassion I really wanted to wear this pair of jeans to that weekend, so they told me ok, just wait 15 minutes. So they hemmed my jeans while I waited in the store. Dang, you hemmed my 1 pair of jeans in less than 15 minutes, but you said you needed a whole WEEK to do 3? WTF?!? Because of what happened, I didn't want to pay for all 3 pairs when I picked up my 1 pair, but I didn't want to make it all complicated (they might mistakenly said I didn't pay anything if I only paid for 1 pair on that day) so I just paid for all 3. Then Monday comes along. I even get off work early so I'm excited that I can pick up the rest of my jeans and still beat traffic. I get there and guess what?? My jeans weren't ready. AGAIN. SERIOUSLY? They said they put it in the wrong section to be ready on Thursday. Ummm...hello. I picked up a pair on Thursday and you effed up then. You didn't think to put the other 2 pairs in the Monday section? Duuuumb. So they have me wait 15 minutes, AGAIN. So as I'm sitting there, again, I'm thinking, "You can hem my 2 pairs of pants in 15 minutes, yet you tell me to pick up my ish in a week?" OMG. I'm hella freakin pissed as I'm sitting there. Finally they're done, and like the good little girl that I am, I smile and say thank you and leave, but in my head, I'm cursing their horrid service and unprofessionalism and preparing my mean but totally honest Yelp review in my head. I searched for a new dry cleaner and found Kim's. My first drop off was odd because the lady that had taken my clothing didn't understand English and pushed a notebook in front of me and asked me to write my name. I did comply. When I returned for pick up a few days later I arrived at 9:30am. They were still closed! I waited in the parking lot until 10am when an employee finally arrived with the excuse "too much traffic". I tried this dry cleaner again. I brought 3 shirts in to be dry cleaned. One was brand new with the tags on it. I returned a few days later to pick up my items at 9:30am. Again, no one opened this business on time. I waited until 9:50 am in the parking lot and received the same response "too much traffic". I went inside and they could not find my clothes. They asked me to come in the back and look through racks of clothes with no tags on them. Honestly, I could have taken anyone's clothes home with me but I would never do that! I found one shirt and was told to go home and they would call me if they found the others. I called back the next day and they still didn't locate my clothes. The third day, I called again and they found my shirts at another location. I will not use this dry cleaner again and suggest that you also look elsewhere for a reliable dry cleaner that is organized and open on time. read more

I was using this cleaners for years only because the owner is so nice. However like a dysfunctional ex-girlfriend, I took the abuse from them. The one thing I did like about that place is they also sold used shirts on big racks. According to the owner, past customers just forget about their clothes. Here's my One Star story: I would bring lots of shirts at one time, sometimes as many as 25 for dry cleaning. I would pick them up, but many times the full order was not ready by the promised date. So I took home a partial order. I noticed over time that I owned less shirts (as a business man I have about 50 dress shirts). The day I decided not to use them again was when I saw two of my shirts on their rack for sale. Those two shirts were custom fitted with unique color and stitching - they were mine. Why didn't she call me before giving up? I realized at that time I was missing those two shirts ! I told the owner "I've been coming here for years - You know those are my 2 shirts". Her response, "Oh no, we would not do that!" after 10 minutes of trying to negotiate getting my shirts back I said "I'll buy those shirts (10 bucks each) and if I do you'll never see me here again". I paid 20 dollars. For me, recovering these custom shirts was worth it. Now I realize why this cleaners have so much clothes to sell. For a great dry cleaners experience, go down the street to Natures Best Cleaners (they are a green cleaners). They won't sell your clothes nor treat you like a bad ex. read more

Excellent place for alterations! I took my wedding dress to another tailor beforehand, and they weren't able to tailor it to fit me, charged me three times as much, and took months to do the work. Kim's was able to tailor it perfectly on the first try, completed the work quickly, and it was for a very reasonable price. I would like to give this place more stars, because when I phoned initially and got voicemail from a different phone number, owner Jennyfer called back and arranged to meet me later in the day when she could be there personally.At exactly the meeting time I was still a few blocks away, and she called to make sure I knew where to turn (the street address is misleading, they are behind stores on El Camino, really should have an address on the cross street) I had a quilt which needed to be re-lined, and I had four packets of material with which to do it. She discussed the job in Vietnamese with her seamstress, who does not appear to speak any English. She set a pickup time for two weeks from then. Two weeks later, I arrived at 2:30 pm to pick up the finished quilt, Jennyfer was not in the shop. The seamstress and an older woman chatted when the older woman could not find the quilt on the rack. The older woman also does not appear to speak English, but she pointed to my receipt that the pickup time was 4 pm. I returned at 4:20 to find the seamstress working on the quilt. She said it would be done in 15 minutes, but I was already late for an appointment, so I went home. That was last Saturday. Yesterday I went there at 4, again no Jennyfer, but the quilt was on the rack (I had to point it out the older woman - it was right in front of her). I paid the very reasonable $60 in cash and asked for a receipt. It took a minute before the old woman figured out what I was asking for and gave me the customer copy. At home I checked out the work, and it was pretty good. But they had only used three of the four packets of material, and had not returned the extra one. And in the process of trimming the ragged edges, she had taken so much from the bottom of the quilt that a hand-stitched note (birthday wishes and a heart) from my sister (who had made the quilt) was completely covered. My main gripe is similar to many above - they had two weeks to do the work but didn't get started until after the last minute. A smaller gripe is there really should be someone in the store who speaks English. read more

I don't have children but I love my clothes as much as I imagine I'd love my own kids. Therefore, I'm highly selective as to who hems my pants and dress straps. I need to alter every pair of pants I buy because for whatever reason, clothing designers think that all women are six feet tall. I've been going to Kim's for years and wouldn't trust anyone else to cut off the bottoms of my jeans. If they suggest you keep the original, you should. I needed new pants hemmed quickly and they were able to deliver with quality and, most importantly, within my tight time frame. Just dropped off more clothes to have pressed and an alteration. Just had a great experience at Kim's! I took in some jeans to be hemmed (easy), a dress to be taken in (a little more difficult), and then I had shirtdress by YFB in a slinky material that I had given up on - I was drowning in it and I hadn't returned it in time (hard). Everything I took in came out perfectly! The tailors there were very nice and helpful, as well as extremely quick. It took me just a few minutes to show what I needed done, and only a few days for the work. The price was also very reasonable. I live in Palo Alto, but I will definitely be driving back to Mountain View to get my stuff tailored at Kim's! read more

I have this problem, you see. I have big, giant, hips and thighs, and a tiny waist (it's a curse, I tell you!). This means that every pair of pants I own gaps so bad in the back that you can actually carry personal items back there, eliminating the need for a purse. I have to admit...I struck out on my own and tried to find a tailor that could take in the waist of my pants. I had an impossible time and was getting charged $20-$30 a pop, just to try them on and find weird bulges coming from my butt and hips that I'm pretty sure I didn't originally come with. I remembered YELP!! I just love you guys so much! After reading many reviews, I went out on a limb and took TWO pairs of pants there and a "Dry Clean Only" sweater. Those jeans now fit like a GLOVE!! There were no funny bulges and I'm here to tell you...I turned around and looked in the mirror and I'm pretty sure my butt has never looked that good. The owner (I'm pretty sure she's the owner?) also does airbrush makeup. She showed me her portfolio and the makeup was gorgeous! I just thought I'd mention it since I didn't know she did it until she told me. read more

BY FAR, THE BEST WORK WITH A NEEDLE & THREAD THAT I'VE EVER SEEN! Even though it was my first time there, I was treated like family, the staff was passionate, caring and did every thing the could to find a way to help me. I can't even begin to recall all of the places where you ask for something outside of the "norm" and you just get slapped with an insincere apology backed by store policy where they go on to explain why they "can't" help you. I arrived a few hours before closing with my two favorite pairs of pants and asked if they could be repaired asap since I needed them for a dinner later that night. To be honest, I wasn't even sure if they were repairable seeing how they each had several FEET of tears across the crotch and legs. The staff put a rush on the order and assured me that they'd be ready within a few hours!! AWESOME!! That is some wicked service! 1.5 hours and $35 later, I had two perfectly stitched pairs of Diesel pants in hand. I was absolutely shocked at the craftsmanship, it looked like they'd re-sown the very fibers of the jean back into it's self and then reinforced their work with some near invisible stitches. I have absolutely no concerns about the pants ever ripping there again. Those pants could get hit by a missile and that patch would be the only thing left! As the type of guy who wears his pants until they fall off, I am psyched to know that these people exist because I'll never have to buy another pair of pants again! I'm so happy with their work I'm going to be taking a few more items in for alterations/repairs later this week. I'll post some picture of their work shortly. read more

This place offers great service and fantastic prices. Jennifer, the store manager (maybe owner?) is always responsive to my questions and needs. The other women who work there are very friendly and professional, despite the language barrier. A couple of weeks ago, I asked about getting a reuseable garment bag to avoid wasting so much plastic wrap, and she actually started offering them for sale in the store! I still come to Kim's for alteration but the owner is not around as much and I do think the service is hit or missed. The last time the owner was not around, and I left a pair of jeans for the ladies to hem. They didn't speak English and communication was stressful. I ended up unhappy with the hem job. I felt that the jeans were shorter than what we had measured. Now these $180 jeans are wasted. I either donate them or wear them very low at the waist to make the length bearable. I went back to speak with the lady who measured my pants and she drew a blank and the guy looked at me with a blank stare. I question, how I can trust the team without the owner around. I still go use their dry cleaning service cos they are the only hop open on Sunday and they are around the corner from my home. My favorite light down jacket had a couple of holes in it, and two other tailoring places said there was nothing they could do to help! When I got to Kim's Alterations & Cleaners, the lady explained in detail how she would cut the jacket open to fix those holes. I appreciate that she was very attentive to detail and even noticed another tiny hole on the back of the jacket while carefully inspecting it. Since other places refused to take this job, I was a little nervous about how my jacket would come out. But it turned out absolutely amazing thanks to the creative approach of the great professional. I also needed a pair of pants to be shortened, and of course brought them to Kim's Alterations & Cleaners. Again, the pants came out great. First off I have odd clothing. Anything out of the ordinary is going to be challenging to get just the way you want. My first piece of clothing i brought was a late 19th century style double breasted vest that i wanted to be rebuttoned. But i wanted it to be rebuttoned to fit a little loser. What was my fault was that I didn't understand that you can only move the buttons very slightly for it to retain its symmetrical double breasted style fit. So when I first got the vest it was no where near what i wanted. It took a few tries to get it right, but these girls were working with a piece of clothing that had 8 buttons on the outside and 1 button on the inside, so with patience and communication we worked through it and my vest turned out perfect. Second, I brought in a blazer style jacket but it was unique in that it has zippers at the bottom of the sleeves and zippers on the shoulders. They shortened the sleeves, fitted the back, and brought in the sides to make it fit properly. Perfect the first try. It was also a fair price. I had a button on a pair of pants fixed and some gym pants hemmed. The gym pants weren't quite short enough but they fixed it right there on the spot to make me happy. The moral of the story is that everybody wears different clothes and they like for their clothes to fit differently. Sometimes you won't get it right the first time, but if you stay calm and communicate, Kim's Alterations will make sure you leave happy. They really did care about getting that troublesome vest just the way I wanted it. I will be happy to continue going to Kim's because I know if something doesn't turn out quite the way I had hoped, they will continue to work on it till its perfect. read more

I have had ALL my pants, designer jeans, theory suit trousers altered here. Great, quality job, only $6! That is a total steal. I also have all my dry-cleaning done there because they have the BEST prices, they never ruin my clothes, they come back looking great and they're fast. no complaints. I needed some pants taken in quite a bit and searched Yelp and found Kim's. The good reviews were so good, I decided to check it out. Kim's exceeded all of my hopes. Jennifer was friendly and helpful and explained to me how they would take in the pants via opening 3 seams instead of just one or two. I love that they didn't take any shortcuts. I dropped my pants off after work on Wednesday and picked them up the next day. The job they did is flawless. The fit is perfect and I can't tell how they took the pants in. They didn't leave a trace. All of this for $20. Shocking. Such great work at a hard-to-believe price. Great value. read more

Fantastic tailor!! Kim took my Burberry suit and was able to make alterations that Nordstrom told me would be impossible. Now it fits exactly how I've always wanted it to! Solid alterations but disappointed in stains which they had to dry clean so I had to come twice. Check before you leave.

When I walked into Kim's, I saw how cute and unique the environment is. It is like a garden with leaves, birds and butterflies all over as well as nature sounds playing in the background. The ladies who work there are very nice and helpful. When I told them that I would like my dress pants hemmed, they told me that it would be only $6 and I could pick them up in a couple days. I was pleasantly surprised being that I've recently gotten another pair of dress pants hemmed for $20 elsewhere! When I picked up my pants I realized that they were a bit too long still and they hemmed them a little more and were pleasant about that. Each time I see them, I always feel comfortable and welcome. I will continue to bring my clothing to Kim's for alterations and cleaning. read more

Fast, helpful and economical - as good as it gets! I called them when I needed a costume sewn from scratch on short notice. I found them on the web, and didn't know what to expect, but was blown away by how friendly and helpful the whole team was. Jennifer at the front desk made me feel right at home getting the design straight, and the sweet and smiling ladies at the sewing machines happily swarmed around to get measurements and brainstorm on how to make the idea a reality. I came back for a couple of fittings during the week so they could make sure what they were sewing fit me, and by the end of the week it was perfect. read more
