I grew up in the area, and still miss deliziosa's pizza in downtown Clarendon hills which closed in the early 2000's. Kim's uncle is by far the best thin crust pizza I've had since then. It's 100% worth all the hype. Due to the nature of the oven and limited number of pizzas they are able to cook simultaneously the wait time can be longer than other pizza joints. There's been a lot of hype about this place so we FINALLY decided to try it. As many reviewers point out there's one size, but several flavor combos. And from a flavor perspective, it is absolutely fantastic!!! The combinations of high quality cheese, sausage, pepperoni. The sauce is simply devine! For me, the only shortcoming is that the crust is just a bit too thin. The pizza translates less like a meal and more like an appetizer because of that. As a result one would have to spend a lot on multiple pizzas to feed a room. I have lived in Chicagoland all my life and tavern style pizza is the definition of pizza for me...had the square cut at many MANY places throughout the decades. I'm just used to a few more millimeters of dough (perhaps there are variations between West Side pizzas and South Side pizzas? Chicago is a diverse place and I grew up in the former). What's going on north of the crust is absolutely AMAZING. Those flavors are the picture of Italian-American foods in Chicago over the past century put on top of a pizza. If you're a late night cold pizza eater (guilty!) then you will enjoy this pizza as a midnight snack. In that capacity, the ultra-thin crust works well as you sneak though your kitchen in the dark for a tasty bite of mouth watering yumminess. It almost reminds me a bit of the pizzas you could get at Italian delis when I was a kid which we would eat more for brunch hours for visits to grandma's house. Often the pizza was cold when we got there but it was great that way. All in all, I feel like this goes more in the specialty pizza column. read more

We ordered here for the first time tonight after everyone kept telling us how great it was. It's very small, so don't plan to eat in. They start taking orders at 3, they're swamped on the weekends; however, I was able to get a pickup time of 5:55 on a Tuesday. I ordered half pepperoni and half sausage and green olives, and they accidentally put green peppers on instead. Luckily, I noticed before I got to the car. I hate when I have to return something, as usually someone gets yelled at. I was surprising my husband, though, and his favorite topping is green olives (yeah, I don't understand it, either.) The staff were AMAZING and promptly (and cheerfully) made a new pizza with the correct toppings. No one got snippy or upset in the least, and no one got yelled at. Waiting for the new pizza, it was obvious it's a positive work environment and the staff get along. Aside from the stellar customer service, the pizza was really good and lived up to the hype. They asked if I wanted the original pizza, so I took it and gave it to the neighbors' teenaged boys. They loved it! And now you have several new customers! read more

I ordered a large Italian sausage pizza, and it was excellent. The toppings tasted amazingly fresh and were higher quality than I've had at other pizzerias or pizza chain restaurants. The pizza was baked perfectly. The large size worked well for one or two people eating light, and I'll definitely return when I want gourmet-style pizza. A few things to know before trying them out: the "large" may feel more like a medium at other places, and the razor-thin crust will be extremely thin for some tastes. However, if you want high quality without getting overfilled on crust, this is your go-to place. If you're sharing with others, you may want to order additional pies. Also, they need significant lead time to make these pizzas in my case, an hour's notice is barely enough, so plan ahead to avoid waiting in their small front area. Parking is usually good, and it would be perfect for a lunch pickup when you're eating the whole thing yourself lol. read more

Had the pizza for the first time last week. We had a pepperoni and sausage. Love the thin crust and the sausage was sooo good. The pepperoni was good too but a bit too salty. My husband is a salt lover and he even said it was a bit much. Wanted to try the meatball sammich but they didn't have it. Tried the sausage sammich with hot giardiniera. It was good too, bread was delish. The long wait time doesn't make for an early dinner but would order again when time doesn't matter. read more

Awesome tavern style pizza. I got burned the first time I tried to get pizza from here. More from my own lack of knowledge. I just stopped by and tried to get carry out. Now, I know you need to call when they first open to place your order. It's a small joint with just a few tables. Really not much room to dine in. We knew that from the previous visit, so we planned to picnic in the park. Got 4 pizzas to split between 8 people. Had plenty of leftovers. Insanely good extra crisp a little burnt thin thin crust pizza. Toppings were flavorful, cheese was salty and just right, crust like a chip. Perfection. In addition to the god-like pizza the team was so so so generous and kind to us when we walked in like a bunch of idiots. My lesson, that I now kindly share with you: give them a call at 3 to reserve a time to pick up your pizza- their specialty oven can hold 6-8 pizzas and takes 5ish min (I think?) to bake, so they need to stagger times to meet demand- that means walk ins probably won't be able to be served due to call in demand. Not much to say about the ambiance, since its a very small place - I was there with 2 other customers, and it was a bit too crowded for my taste. Maybe 5 people can wait there, but then someone will get sick from the crowd. Its a small space, but enough for 2 tables, maybe can fit 4 people each. There is a picnic table outside, just next to the public car park, so if its a nice day, you can eat there...just beware of people inquiring and asking for a slice...like what happened to me at my home building. (lol, they were joking, but...I am selfish like that, so stay away from my pizza!). Service was good - no wait staff, but a nice lady was there, taking orders, and giving them out to us customers for pick up (I don't think they have delivery or online order services) - she might be strictly business, but pleasant to deal with. One of the three guys there, gave me my pies after paying via credit card. BTW, she specifically told me payment via credit card, though I heard from elsewhere they do take cash but must bring exact change. They are really set up for credit card, so go with that. And tip them decently too, if you would. Yeah, again, no wait staff, but the great pies are worth it, to me, at least. Paying for just the food and no tip will get you out the door, but won't help support your friendly neighborhood pizzeria, so tip whatever you can afford. Food? I ordered, in my inaugural order, 2 pies: one with cheese & pepperoni, and sausage & mushroom. The former I am not so thrilled with, but its a matter of choice of pepperoni - I guess I though it was either too salty, or a bit strong in its taste. But that doesn't mean the pizza itself is bad, as the sausage & mushroom was lovely - not too salty and tasted really nice, even cold. Crust is very thin and crispy, nothing like other pizzas I had in the so-called tavern style. Cheese was sufficient, but since I am the type who loves alot of cheese, it could use more. And the sauce is not bad either. The pizza holds up pretty decently, even when eating it cold. Not optimal when nuking it, but will do well putting it in the oven or air fryer. Comparing it to Lou Malnati's thin, well, Kim's is thinner but still holds its crispiness better. And tastes better too. Lou's thin is a bit bland in comparison. Will definitely come back - not a fan of the pepperoni, though that's strictly a personal preference, but will go again with the sausage & mushroom, and will try the cheese only. Been back twice since my first review. Tried the 1/2 Sausage 1/2 Italian beef topping with honey drizzle. The honey drizzle kicks it up a notch. You can get it on the side if you don't believe me. Next I tried all Italian beef, 1/2 sausagea, 1/2 giardenarra honey on the side. It was ok, wouldn't get the giardenarra again. But once again the honey kicked it up a notch. Than I tried the combination, Italian Beef, Italian Sausage, dipped with sweet peppers (you can get with mozzarella cheese). Man... this was phenomenal. My wife said it's better than portillos, now I love a good argument, I'm not saying it's better, I'm saying I didn't argue. Take from that what you will. They have 3 other sandwiches I will definitely try. The beef, the meatball and the Angry Chicagoan which is Italian Sausage with red sauce and peppers. I'll report back. read more

Nostalgic old storefront takeout pizzeria with one booth. Menu consists of one size of pizza and about six sandwiches. Pizza crust is cracker crisp perfect, but the positives end there. Sauce is too spicy with too strong an herbal tang. Sausage is generous but also over-spiced. Cheese is barely discernible. Four different pizzas, five diners, and not a one of us liked any of the pizzas. Falco's, Zazzo's, and Chesdan's (Homer Glen) have this place beat to pieces. Added significant cheese to leftovers, and it helped mask the bitter sauce, but we won't go back. Disappointed - we had heard they were voted best of something. Must be best of one! What a disappointment! 12.3.24 Hubby used to get pizza from their now closed Chi-town location and loved them. Needless to say he was so excited when they opened in Westmont and couldn't wait for me to try their pizza. Well... I don't care the person taking the order is abrupt, I care more about the food. Probably THE WORST cracker crust pizza that either of us have eaten. The crust was missing salt but not to worry, they dumped the salt shaker in the sausage. Also, I don't mind a little char but this pie was flat out burnt - ridiculous they would even put this in a box and call it pie, insulting. On our initial visit, we heeded Yelp's advice and ordered early and several pizzas. The place has plenty of parking but no place to eat. The pizzas are of medium size. We had some slices in the car. It is best to eat them hot. The thin crust and toppings were top-notch. After eating a few slices, the spice flavors were reminiscent of burnt black pepper. The flavor gradually intensifies and becomes spicy. The flavor accumulates, albeit not in a good way. I desired to eat more, but the flavor had reached my limit. We ordered a sausage pizza and a pepperoni pizza, both of which contained the same flavor. The leftover pizza is stored in the refrigerator. We will not be returning until that flavor changes. I've been craving Chicago style pizza for a while and it was especially stoked when Kenji Lopez Alt posted about it on Instagram. We were considering other purveyors like Vito and Nik's but Kim's was an easier commute from the city for us. Due to the small interior, we grabbed the pizza and ate inside our van. The crust was thin and held up our toppings of sausage and green peppers. One pizza fed two adults perfectly. Keep in mind to order ahead because they have distinct pickup times. We called at 8 and the next pickup time was 8:55pm. Although it's a bit of a trek from downtown Chicago (we went out of our way to get here), the pizza was delicious and I'm looking forward to trying more of their menu when we're in the area. read more

It's the ultimate in super cracker thin. Thinnest I've ever had. Sausage as my yelp beer loving friend Karen G here indicated is excellent. Because these are tavern size and thin order more than you think. Price on par with Aurelio's and the like. I'd hit this again. Do I wish they took online orders? Sure since I hate talking to people more than staff does loz. But if you like the style, you'll like this effort. Also was lil bit reminiscent of my youth and Barnabys which is a good pie today. Our order #1 Cheese #2 Italian Sausage, Green Pepper, Onion, and Garlic #3 Hot Soppressata, and Hot Honey 3 pizzas for 4 adults and had almost a whole pizza leftover collectively. The ingredients are such high quality. The sausage especially being house made was excellent. Sauce is flavor packed and all 3 pizzas were cooked to perfection. It's electronic payment only or exact cash so keep that in mind. Mainly takeout but there are 2 tables that seat 4 each. We ate in and thoroughly enjoyed the experience! I was recently reading a NYT article regarding the 25 best restaurants in Chicago today, and when I came across the entry for Kim's Uncle Pizza, located in nearby Westmont, I knew I had to pay a visit to try this tavern style pizza...and I'm so glad I did! The pizza was phenomenal -- such a great thin and crispy crust, with a flavorful sauce and a generous set of hearty toppings, which all tasted juicy and delicious right out of the oven. We were lucky to get our orders in early enough, such that we could go ahead and eat inside the shop as soon as our pizzas came out of the oven (FYI, there are two tables inside and a couple outside as well). If you don't order way ahead of time, or decide to walk in when they open to place an order, you'll likely have to wait ~4 hours to get your pizza (their pickup time slots fill up incredibly fast, especially on the weekends!). So definitely plan ahead if you are looking to try this pizza, which I highly recommend! read more

My family and I have been dying to try out Kim's Uncle Pizza for months after hearing rave reviews about the newly opened establishment. They do not open until 4pm, and every single time we called to place an order, the earliest time was past 9pm. Yesterday, my brother was able to place an order that would be ready at 7:45pm. Their pizza comes in one size, a 14 inch. We ordered half pepperoni and half sausage. They claim to have tavern style pizza; the crust was thin, almost cracker like and a bit burnt, but in the best way possible. Our pizza was absolutely delicious. Each element of the pizza was flavorful on its own, yet when put together was cohesive and melded together perfectly. Their tomato sauce had a rich flavor to it, and their sausage tasted fresh. It also had a bit of kick to it. Kim's Uncle is a small place, but it is very clean. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. I was excited to see a chicago place branch out to the suburbs. As expected, their crust is cracker thin and crispy. Thinner than thin. Literally a cracker. They only have one size of pizza and we had spinach, mushroom and sausage as our topping. It was a little light on the cheese and the sausage was very herby and a little overpowering. The veggie toppings were fresh and there was a decent amount of sauce. The sausage seasoning wasn't my favorite, but I wouldn't mind coming again and trying a different protein. read more

Watched a Youtube video about this place some weeks ago. Placed an order last Friday. Pizza was ready right on time. We ordered 2 pizzas--one sausage and one anchovy and onion. Wow. Wow. Wow. It was even better than we imagined and that is saying a lot. In full disclosure, we live in Arlington Heights, and without a dining room there is a logistical heat issue.
