Super cute cozy little hole in the wall! The place is tiny, maybe seats around 20 people total and there's only one server.... but the food is totally worth the wait. They have this really rich iced barely tea too. Complimentary and super refreshing for this heat. No frills, nothing fancy, but the food tastes GOOD and you can totally tell it was made with love and care. This place is also one of the few places I've found that does thin udon! It's nice and chewy, and pairs sooooo well with the cold broth. Right now the heatwave is killing me and this totally hit the spot. They do hot soup, cold broth, or dipping style. I've tried both their soba and udon and like both! Really can't go wrong here so just mix and match as you please. If you come during lunch they'll give you a scoop of seasoned rice so just a nice little bonus to keep in mind. The tempura is light and crispy and fried in a way where it's not greasy or heavy in any way. I usually just get the tempura on the side (ten kake/zaru) or the tempura bow combo and haven't strayed from that too much. I did order a salmon ikura bowl combo once and that was good too! Super fresh, good, no complaints. I just find myself craving tempura as a side when I'm here. Parking directly in front is limited but it's part of a huge plaza, so absolutely no issues with parking. Really good soba and I thought it was nice they offered both zaru and kake soba! I went with the zaru + sashimi combo which also came with tempura and miso soup so you definitely get your moneys worth here! Plus the fish is nice and fresh! Visited here on a Sunday evening for dinner and there was no wait! Parking is ample inside a lot. There were a few Japanese customers inside so I could already tell it would be authentic. We opted to get the salmon sushi combo and a small tempura to share. We chose to get the udon with the combo. Ichimi Ann's Tempura Sashimi Udon Combo was a Sensational meal that sent my taste buds to Japanese heaven. My girlfriend and I came about an hour before close on a Friday. Their hostess/waitress greeted us and promptly sat us inside the restaurant . It only had indoor seating in a corner spot that features chich wooden Japanese design elements, and serviced by a friendly and efficient staff. The wheat soba and thicker udon noodles i believe are made in-house and can be served in cold or hot broth. Both broths are strong umami tasting, light, and plenty of noods portioned. We did 2 combos together which came with nice plates of sashimi, ginger, soy sauce, wasabi, and dipping sauce for the flaky tempura. Their kitchen plated the combos perfectly. Everything came out looking appetizing and certainly lived up to its presentation. The raw fish was nice,chunky, and so fresh. Absolutely delicious. The fish was a great protein sampler with Tuna, Yellow tail, Salmon. Each was a perfect pair with the fumey wasabi, crunchy powerful ginger, and small splash of soy sauce. Each bite was a delight, very filling yet felt light and refreshing... And also on the combo lineup was their thin crisp tempura which had shrimp and mixed veggies. They were great crispy textures, sweet with their dipping sauce and I loved how it paired with the broth of the noodle soup. The plate was epic. Overall their attention to ingredients and quality kitchen staff served flavors that curated a spectacular experience for my girlfriend and I. 11/27/2024 CRAB SCALLOP AND IKURA RICE BOWL COMBO (Crab, scallop, salmon roe, nori seaweed, sesame on rice, served with a side of soba or udon) Served with real crab. I was expecting imitation crab! The crab meat were crab legs. I think they served a whole crab leg because there were quite a lot of meat. The scallop was fresh. It was raw scallop and they also served it with wasabi and soy sauce. However, the scallop was one full scallop cut in half. This was served over white rice and with salmon roe on the side. The udon noodle at Ichimi An was flatter and thinner than the usual cylindrical udon noodles we all know and love. However, the udon noodles were good and slurpable. The kake broth was good too. Ordered a small tempura on the side. It wasn't super crispy, but it was still light in texture and I enjoyed it. These other two dishes were ordered by family. So I got to sneak a taste. UNAGI BOWL COMBO Unagi bowl served with a side of rice. The unagi was soft and the sauce was delicious! This comes with a side of udon or soba. REGULAR SOBA (HOT) Soba was served with kake broth. The soba looks handmade. Rough texture, not smooth at all. This was definitely handmade. SEATING A very small restaurant that seats about 20-22 people. CUSTOMER SERVICE Only one server. But server was quick and made sure everyone got their order. As soon as we sat down, we got cold Japanese tea. Overall, had a great experience here. I would love to return and try other dishes when it's less crowded. Really recommend checking out the combo menu items! LOCATION Right across from BevMo and Nijiya Market Rolling Hills. Btw, check out Nijiya Market for some onirigi and other ready-to-eat Japanese foods in the refrigerator section. Loved their spicy salmon onigiri! Ummm amazing. I got the ume soba bowl, with cold soba and some Japanese eggplant and it was outstanding! It comes with a side of veggie rice, which is nice, but I feel like it didn't add much to the meal. The main star is the soba and the flavor for sure! It has been a long while since I last visited the restaurant. The dinner hasn't changed after all this time, the staff are still friendly and the service is still great. I got seated right away, the menu and complementary barley tea arrived within couple minutes. I ordered Chirashi Combo with Hot Udon and the order was ready in about 15 minutes. The noodle was cooked to the perfection and the broth was light but flavorful with nice dash of seaweed. The chirashi bowl was visually nice and the seafood were fresh. The tuna pieces were firm with nice buttery soft texture. The rice was firm but moist, and seasoned sesame seeds on top gave it a very special taste. Keep in mind, this location is quite intimate and their music is kept kinda low. So, if you have tea to spill be prepared that the other tables will probably hear you. The good: This is a super quaint and cozy Japanese restaurant with a simple interior that matches the simplistic Japanese aesthetic. I saw many Japanese patrons here so I got a good feeling about its authenticity. I got the chirashi deluxe bowl and mixed tempura deluxe rice bowl. My toddler and infant enjoyed the food as well! The tempura bowl came with a side of soba (you could choose udon instead as well). The soba can be hot or cold. I liked how they had kid high chairs and they put lids on the waters for the kids. They also had plastic spoons, forks, bowls and plates for the kiddos. I liked the roasted rice tea that they served for us for free. I liked the variety in both of the entrees. The broth in the soba was tasty and differed from the store bought mentsuyu broth base. The bad: There's no outdoor seating. The interior is very small so this isn't a great spot for larger groups. I think the largest table they had was a table for 4 unless they squish some tables together. The miso soup that came with the chirashi bowl was too salty. The tempura was slightly more mushy than I would've liked. The interesting: My husband and I created a "game" called the dinner decider where we draw out a restaurant name from a bag. The restaurant is not that big inside, but since we came early we were able to seat (party of 10). Great service, and most importantly great food. I had a combo sushi and udon set, and it was very delicious. I'm not a avid udon lover, but I was very pleased with their udon. If you love udon you will love theirs (in my humble opinion). Parking is ample, and bonus is that the location is close to both the Nijiya Market and Trader Joe's if you also need to get some grocery shopping done. We had plans to attend a salsa class in Redondo Beach after dinner, so decided to eat somewhere nearby, and ended up at Ichimi-an. This location is open later than the other location, but still not that late for dinner (closes at 7:45PM, and closed on Tuesdays). Parking was easy in the large plaza parking lot, though the restaurant itself was quite small and only manned by two individuals. We arrived at 7:15PM and were still accepted. Paper menus were provided although there is also a digital menu viewable after scanning the QR code on the table. The menu includes photos of most dishes, and there are some dishes unique to this location. Service was minimal but professional. We ended up ordering the salmon with ikura and seared salmon with poached egg combos, both came with a side bowl of noodles. We tried both their hot udon (a thinner variety of udon) and hot soba. Food came quickly and was simple but very tasty. Prices were okay in the mid-$20 range for both dishes.
