Yesterday, we met friends, Gary, EJ, and Emily, for lunch @kinthaibulverde. It was first for our friends and they seem to have enjoyed their dishes. They have lunch specials, which come with spring roll and soup. I had the Red Curry with shrimp, Dad had the Thai Fried Rice with chicken, and Hubby had the Thai Fried Rice with pork and some heat. I'm always skeptical with places that make different style cuisines because they never excel at making just one type of food. This place makes Thai, Japanese, and Vietnamese food. I got the Tokyo Roll ($15.99) and the Pad See Yew ($14.99) and it was mediocre at most. Their service wasn't the best, there were two ladies that were serving all the tables and just went around to each table every so often to check up on them, kind of seemed a little chaotic. I didn't try any Vietnamese food but I doubt I will be coming back. read more

We've been fans of Kin Thai for a long time, so this visit was disappointing. Our server took our order, got it wrong, and that was the last real attention we got. We never received the sushi we ordered, and she brought us one glass of water and that was it. Instead, she was on her phone the whole time, and at one point she went outside to text while on shift. We had to flag down another server to get water and to take the sushi off our bill, since we'd finished our entrées by then. Speaking of the entrées, they were bland and not up to what we remember. Meanwhile, our server, who was wearing a birthday banner, seemed more focused on that and her phone than on her tables. Great food and friendly service are what made us regulars, and we didn't get either this time. Sadly, we won't be recommending Kin Thai anymore. read more

Came for lunch for a bday celebration for one of our friends. We came right when they opened and looked at the menu. It's been awhile since I've been here and usually I get a Sushi lunch special or Pad Wun Sen. Today I was in the mood for Green Chicken Curry with rice. Our friend suggested we order and share like Family-Style so I was good with that and ordered the Dinner portion. I ordered the Green Chicken Curry & requested it as mild but there was a slight kick to it which was mitigated with the white rice. I expected more chicken and veggies but it seemed more saucy? My other friend ordered the Sashimi Lunch Special with 9 pieces of Sashimi with 3 pieces each of Tuna, Yellowtail and Salmon. It comes with a salad so she chose the Squid salad with sliced, cooked Squid in a slightly tangy sauce. My other friend ordered the Crispy Pork Belly Stir-Fry with "Chinese Collard Greens" in the description. The leaves tasted like Bok Choy and the stems tasted like Asparagus. There's a brown sauce so the Pork Belly is no longer crispy in case you're expecting it "crispy". For dessert, my bday celebrant was able to have a free Mango Sticky Rice decorated with a Happy Birthday greeting I think from a Chocolate drizzle, Orchid flower and a candle! It was very tasty with the sweet Mangos and coconut milk topping the warm sweet rice. Very comforting and perfect! I would order that on it's own again! For drinks, my friends got a Thai Iced Tea that looked very refreshing. Service was quick and prompt. Kin is always highly recommended to us every time we visit Texas, so we knew we had to stop by during this trip. We started off with some Tom Yum Shrimp Soup and Salmon Sashimi. The Tom Yum was delicious. It came out in a bowl that remained hot throughout our meal. It had great flavor and a really generous amount of shrimp and mushrooms. I just wish it was a bit spicier, but that's just personal preference. The Salmon Sashimi was really fresh and had great flavor. I also got the Masago nigiri, Yellowtail nigiri and Crab nigiri to start. They were all great, and tasted fresh! My favorite was the masago and I loved that they gave me a few extra pieces. I tried the Veggie Tempura Roll, but by that time I was super full from the starters. From the few pieces I was able to eat, I loved the eel and spicy mayo sauce that was on top. My dad says Kin's has the best Spicy Tuna Handroll he's ever had. So definitely put that on your "must-try" list when you visit. For dessert we got the Mango Sticky Rice and their Tempura Oreos. The mango was perfectly ripe and paired so well with the coconut sticky rice. The oreos are out of this world. Great crunch from the tempura and it's plated with vanilla ice cream. I picked some of the spicy rolls and it was still somehow lacking in that pizazz that I love about sushi. I also feel like they do too much with each roll and the flavors maybe get lost. Pad Thai - The flavors were there on this one! It just needed a bit more sauce. It was super dry. The photos are stunning! The service was so great! I do think this place is relatively Celiac friendly. They did put something fried with my Pad Thai (it was not listed on the menu) and kindly remade. The fry was nice and the hot chili sauce that came with it was yummy. I then got a tuna hand roll - It was stuffed with ingredients and had strong structural integrity when eating. The tuna was fresh and so were the veggies. For the entrée, I got Yakisoba noodles with fried tofu. I am always cautious about fried tofu, as it can easily be soggy. this was not the case here ! The tofu was crispy and the dish was so flavorful, i finished desiring more. (even though i was stuffed) Each dish I had was plated with thought and looked like a piece of art. They're good as two separate dishes but not together, they just didn't mesh well. Aldo not a fan of peas in fried rice especially when they're a bit crunchy. My husband and I were looking for someplace new to grab some dinner but also had outdoor dining. Kin Thai and Sushi was not too far from our house, but far enough to feel like we were actually going out on a date. We saw that they had good reviews and the food pictures looked good so we gave it a try. We used to love the place that was there before so we were hoping to get food that was just as good. Upon walking in we were quickly greeted, told to sit anywhere, so we made sure the outside patio was open and we got a perfect spot to soak in the last bit of sun for the day. Our waiter was prompt, answered our questions, made recommendations and did not leave us alone for too long, but wasn't a pest either. I ordered the jasmine tea but they were out so he brought me the green tea, apologized, and said if I didn't want it he would just take it back. I kept it and thanked him for bringing it out because I really wanted some hot tea. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls, and tempura shrimp and onion rings as a appetizer and both were amazing! Everything tasted freshly made, hot, crispy, and tasted like it had been fried in fresh oil. I also ordered the chicken and jasmine rice soup . . . My goodness it was good! It had ground chicken meatballs, jasmine rice, a light broth, ginger, cilantro, and green onion. Absolutely perfect, I could eat that soup all day everyday. My husband ordered the pineapple fried rice with shrimp. He loved how light the flavor was and how the pineapple was not overpowering. There was a $4 up charge for the shrimp but it was worth every penny, they are generous with their shrimp! Nothing worse than an up charge for a drop of shrimp so that was a huge plus!! I ordered the Firecracker Roll which was being featured when you first walk in. It was so full of flavor and texture, and was very filling! I had to take a break for a few minutes to make room for the last two pieces. It had tempura shrimp, cream cheese, jalapeño, imitation crab, avocado. Again, the taste was very fresh, nothing was bad. Second Guessing my Saturday Decision... On Saturday, I decided to treat my babe to lunch and picked out KIN Thai as our lunch spot . We were greeted warmly and decided on a table that let us bask in the Saturday sun. Our server was prompt and quickly took our order. The Meal : I decided on a cool glass of lemonade and ordered the Spring rolls, Alamo Sushi Roll, Chicken Satay and Cheese Rolls for our appetizer. Being a tad glutinous, we also selected entrees of Chicken Pad See Ew and Beef and Broccoli. After our first appetizer arrived of chicken satay, I decided that the portion was a bit smaller than I'm used to for the price. For $8, I expected a bit more and assumed like lumber, chicken prices must have also gone up due to COVID. The cheese rolls, Alamo rolls and spring rolls were delicious, but unfortunately we couldn't enjoy them because the flies decided that they were eating, while I was paying. The swatting was annoying and It was a bit warm inside. I asked for a second glass of lemonade and was told there were no refills. For $4.00 the lemonade was full of ice and after a few swallows I sadly greeted the air in the glass. ( am I being picky ).... At the same moment of my discussion on a refill our entrees arrived. Being highly observant I noticed a piece of hair in my food before the server walked away. The owner promptly removed the food, apologized and did not charge me for that refill ( thanks and good move ).... I must admit, my food was flavorful, but the beef and broccoli could have used a bit more seasoning and the hair, flies and price of some items had me questioning my choice. I know things happen, but for $74 I just wanted a better experience. Definitely willing to try again, but hope my next experience is better than the one we had. We found a new favorite Thai and sushi place! We started with Thai spring rolls and gyoza. Both arrived hot and crispy, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. Next time we'll try the Kin rolls because they looked so good. For our entrees, we selected a panang curry with chicken and a green curry with pork and eggplant, the country's most popular curry from what I've been told by Thai friends. Both were delivered to the table nice and hot. This was quite possibly the best green curry I've had in San Antonio! Oftentimes, the pork is a little tough and overcooked but this was the most tender pork I've had in a curry dish. Most places serve it with big chunks of eggplant, but I appreciated the eggplant in this dish was in smaller, more manageable slices. The steamed white rice was a different story. It was way overcooked, too sticky and too mushy. Since it was our first time, I'll assume this isn't typical and hope for better rice next time. The portions were generous for dinner and we brought some home. They left us with no room for dessert. We were surprised, yet pleased, to see how busy they were mid-week for dinner! That's always a good sign. For much of our time there, only one or two tables were available. We saw many people come in for takeout. Refills and other little things were a little hard to come by, but there was only one waitress and, like I said, it was busy so we understood. No pictures this time because I forgot my phone! Next time we go, I'll remember to bring it. If the rice is better, it will become our regular place. read more
