I love Thai food and Dahlia's was recommended to me by a friend. I went for lunch and it was nice to see they have a large selection of plates on their lunch special menu. In addition, the meal is served with either a soup or salad starter. Based on past reviews, the Pad Thai (sp?) is popular but, I decided to try the Dahlias Noodle dish. My protein in my dish was chicken, the veggies were fresh and the base is vermicelli noodles. My dish was a level 3 spice and it was perfect. I used to live in SA 6 years ago. This was my go to Thai place as a student, it was good food with generous portion. I've come back few times after I moved away as well. Last time I came back was about a year ago and it was still good. Today I came back and ordered my usual, Pad kee maw and pineapple fried rice. It was so different than how I remember it! Fried rice was so so sweet. And pad kee maw was too greasy, with no flavor. I remember it being so flavorful and delicious when I used to get them. Maybe my taste in Thai food changed, or the chef changed. I'm not too sure. But today I didn't enjoy my two favorites back in the day. I'm giving three stars because the servers were really nice. It's a bit unfortunate to lower the rating but our recent visit was not as good as it used to be in the past. My wife used to come here a lot while she was studying but now as we live near the Austin we cannot come often. We came down to San Antonio because of her birthday weekend and out of many restaurants we could choose we decided to come here for lunch as she missed this place. We ordered Drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice and they were both too greasy and drunken noodles were too plain and needs good amount of salt and soy sauce! The fried rice was too sweet as well. I'm not sure whether people here like that but it was a bit too much for us. Let's go through a run down on some of the things we got! Ready? Thai Egg Rolls These egg rolls were simple ground pork rolls with pieces of carrot through out. Chicken Satay Thai Chicken Satay is a popular starter on Thai restaurant menus along with Thai Fish Cakes. There are many variations of chicken satay recipes, which in essence, means chicken marinated in spices, skewered, and grilled. The chicken on this dish was grilled nicely, making for a nice pairing with the side of salty fish sauce (yes, I used fish sauce on chicken, so report me to the food police). Tom Yum Soup I love Tom Yum soup! It is my absolute favorite soup in the world. The Thai word for "boil" or tom (pronounced "dtome") features prominently on Thai menus and tom yum goong is probably one of the most famous Thai dishes in the world. Now let's talk about the "yum". This word literally means mixing things together to achieve the mélange of sweet, sour and spicy notes that typify a yum. The marriage of the words "tom yum", therefore, results in a yum broth brought to a boil. But THIS Tom Yum was none of those things.. This soup was bland and lacked lemon grass (which is a key ingredient in this dish). This soup was served with chicken as the protein as opposed to shrimp or prawn. Pho Soup Yes, Pho was served at a Thai restaurant. Normally, I wouldn't order a Vietnamese dish from someplace that notes they specialize in Thai food, but by technicality, I didn't order this, Thing Two did. This soup, like the Tom Yum was bland and left much to be desired. The Prince of Thais Special The fish in this dish first came out raw. The dish was supposed to be seared salmon but wasn't seared at all. When the dish was brought back to the table after being returned, the fish after getting past the heavy sauce that covered it was a small serving equivalent to a child's portion. While the fish was cooked properly the second time around, it was executed nicely but not worth the price point for what was served. Pineapple Fried Rice Although Pineapple Fried Rice is of Thai origin, there are iterations of it all around the world. While some recipes use little more than a dash of soy sauce, the recipe here was not served in the traditional manner. It lacked the 'peak of freshness' pineapple (the pineapple was dull) and the vegetables were bland. Overall, this meal was one that was memorable for the wrong reasons. This is not an establishment I would visit again as it lacked traditional Thai taste or any real taste at all. Three stars is generous.... read more

I'm not sure if this was due to the restaurants policy or Doordash but it would have been great to try one of the curries. The Paht Peht (stir-fry with Thai chilies) had a great taste, a lot of basil which really enchanted the flavor. The beef in the dish was a bit tough. One of my favorite Thai restaurants, but I'm only giving it 3 stars for consistency issues. I've been a regular customer ever since I moved to this side of town over two years ago. I gotta admit, the Paht Ginger with chicken is the best I've ever had from any Thai restaurant. However, it could be amazingly delicious sometimes or just "meh" whenever they forgot some of the main vegetable ingredients. Once they forgot 4 vegetable ingredients, sometimes they forget my favorite shitake mushrooms ingredient. So now I started to remind them when I order that all want all vegetables, especially mushrooms. I've had better luck lately whenever I dine in or order takeout. But consistency issues still occur when ordering through UberEats. The restaurant does acknowledge mistakes happens, especially on their busy times. They do a good job making it up on your next visit, but sometimes inconsistency happens at the wrong time, especially when craving a particular menu item. I'll still be a regular customer at Dahlia Thai Cuisine regardless, after all they do make the best Paht Ginger in town. The Edamame with garlic is also very good, however sells out sometimes. The Pineapple Fried Rice would be amazing if it wasn't for the canned pineapple, so I order the Chef Special Fried Rice instead with either chicken or shrimp. I've been trying to explore the menu more , but keep going back to my favorite menu item. Keeping it simple sometimes works best, especially when you want to expect. It was very fresh and tasty - probably the best part of our meal. I tried Paht Takhrai which was a stir fry with lemongrass with beef. The flavor was ok. I had asked for spice level 2 out of 5 but didn't taste any spiciness at all. Some pieces of beef were tender but some were chewy. My husband had the chef's special fish dish. Dahlia Thai Cuisine is a gem in the Medical Center and the best Thai food I've had in San Antonio. The interior is spacious and parking is not an issue. The gyoza are the perfect appetizer and enough for two. The dipping sauce complements the gyoza. The true star of this restaurant are the entrees though. Ordering from 1-5 spice level, you can get a huge portion of food that is wonderful with every bite. The soy sauce noodles are the perfect ratio of salty and savory and the added veggies give the dish a nice crunchy texture. If you like lime, they put one on the side and it adds another dimension of flavor. The paht kee mao is another great noodle dish that doesn't have the salty soy flavor too it. It's a bit lighter of a dish, but still wonderful. Lastly, the crispy pork is a must order. The pork is cooked to perfection and served over a bed of veggies. Whatever sauce they used when combined with the rice is heaven on earth. For those who don't like pork, they serve the same dish with chicken. If you consider yourself fond of spicy, but want to enjoy your food - order around a 3 or 4 spice level. Only complaint is that service can be pretty slow. I think they have only 2-3 people working so it's understandable. The staff are really nice though and the food so delicious that it is easy to overlook this minor inconvenience. read more

So I was having a late lunch which I was treating my family (extended) to. 10 people. At the end of the lunch which was quite good I proceeded to go and pay for it. The lady at the register stated it was $381 for the meal but failed to mention they had already tacked on a tip of $54. Plus taxes came out to only $381.08. I assumed tat a tip was not included and paid $450. So I basically tipped about 45%. Needless to say I will not return to Dahlia Thai Cuisine.
